MAGSR.ORG - Providing
Adoption And Rescue Services For German Shepherd Dogs In Maryland
The following listings show LOCAL
available GSD or GSD mixes that are being surrendered by their owners
or placed by their fosters.
This page is NOT
for the 'selling' of dogs.
If you have
inquired about any dog listed on this page and been asked for an
"adoption fee" of any kind,
please contact us immediately at
updates_web@magsr.org and let us know. As a dog rescue
organization, we advocate rescue adoptions only. In Addition, and
for the same reasons, we require that all dogs listed on this page be
spayed/neutered as a condition of their adoption.
These dogs are not part of the MAGSR program;
we have not evaluated any of these dogs. We list
them here because they are special and deserve a second look - - and
a second chance. For more information on any of these dogs, please
contact the listed party, not MAGSR.
Please
email us
if you'd like to have your dog posted here and include the information
you see in the listings below.
Donations are appreciated!

TO DONATE TO MAGSR
If you are placing
your dog in a new home please make sure the home he/she may go to is
safe, loving, and dedicated. If contacted by anyone stating they
are with any type of K9 department please contact your local police
department K9 unit and inquire as to the reputation of that
person/group/organization. Not all people using rank titles are indeed with a legitimate K9 unit and you could be placing your dog at
risk.
I'm beautiful to
look at
And wonderful to hold,
But please don't adopt me
If you wont keep me 'til I'm old.
Good things come to those who wait.
The saying really is true.
Just give me a chance to be a good dog,
And I'll never stop loving you.
Adopting a dog is a
lifetime
commitment. If you aren't prepared to work with your dog through
the adjustment period and beyond, please look no further. If you
wont keep your dog if you move or as your family grows, please look
no further. If you aren't prepared to nurse your dog back to health
if he gets ill or if she needs surgery, please look no further.
Rescue dogs have been through so much - dumped in shelters or found
roaming the streets. They have been abandoned, neglected, starved
and possibly physically abused. They need TIME, PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING
and LOVE in order to succeed in their new homes. Sometimes it
may take several months for a rescue dog to make the adjustment to your
home and family. If you aren't 100% committed to making
this work with your new dog, then please don't adopt. Any adopter
of a rescue dog who has been through the adjustment period can tell you
its worth it. No dog is perfect….just like no human is perfect.
Please don't expect too much too soon from your new dog.
This page is NOT

inquired about any dog listed on this page and been asked for an
"adoption fee" of any kind,

organization, we advocate rescue adoptions only.

Description: Abby has been in my care for over 2 years now since the time I had to place my grandmother in a nursing home facility. We have made do in keeping our other dog and cats in a separate part of our house so not to incur an issue. But with our daughter going off to college and we both work out of the area it is very difficult to maintain our current situation any longer. Abby is a great dog and will do well if she is the queen of the household. I do this with a heavy heart but I just want her to be given all the attentiveness that she deserves.

Description: She has been spayed, she is good with other dogs and pretty good with older kids. She does like to jump. She does not like cats, but she loves horses. This is no life for "Bella". She is harmless, but we have complaints from walkers because she follows them around. She has not been trained. We found out we were pregnant with our third child just after we got her. We have not had time to work with her. She is very intelligent and just needs someones time. We love her but she needs to run and not be kept in a kennel.

Description: Looking for a pal for your playful pup? Here's
your Chance! Chance is: 4 years old, housebroken and crate-trained, 55 pounds, good with dogs,
good with cats, good with kids (although he'd probably bowl younger ones over in his
enthusiasm). His favorite things to do are to play with other dogs, get attention from his
people, and go for car rides. Chance is an active boy, and needs another active dog to help
burn off some of his energy. He especially enjoys his trips to the dog park and the dog beach.
He plays well with others and happily shares his toys. It appears that he's been well trained. He's
a great sitter and will drop to a down at a moment's notice, especially if it seems that someone will
give him a tummy rub. He's smart and very eager to learn more. This boy is always looking for
opportunities to please! Chance loves his toys. He has come a long way in his ball playing, he
loves to throw it up in the air, catch it and THEN he will bring it back to you! At night, Chance
piles up his toys in a corner so he can watch them as he sleeps! He doesn't mind anyone taking one
from his pile, though. He just wants to keep track of them. Chance has been known to clear the
5-foot gate to the backyard at his foster's house when he has nothing else to do, so a tall fence
is ABSOLUTELY required. He can get quite rowdy when playing, so we'd prefer a home with no
children under 10 for him.
The contact person is not the owner but volunteer with another rescue that is helping place Chance.

Description: He is a German Shepard but he is mixed with something else. He has grown into a big dog and being 5'1 I have a hard time training him. He is a little hyper but with some good training can be an excellent dog. He seems very anxious with the infant and he likes to jump up if I am carrying the baby. I need to find a loving home that has the time that can love him and train him properly.
Or Dozer barks mean, but is scared of everything! He runs from just about everyone in a uniform! He is lovable but a bit hyper. He can be trained into a wonderful dog and I wish I didn't have to re-home him. My middle child is scared of him because he does jump up but he only does it for attention. Please help this poor family find a wonderful new family for our Dozer. If you chose to adopt our dog, I will want to come to see where he will be living. Just because I have to re-home him doesn't mean I don’t love him!!!

Description: Hi, we are Georgia, Duncan and Kuma and we sure could use your help. You see our faithful guardian; Nancy rescued us from pretty desperate situations and provided us with the perfect forever home. In fact, Nancy promised us that she would be our forever home and she held true to her promise. Unfortunately, this disease called cancer made an unexpected visit and decided to stay with her. Just as she rescued us, we tried to return the favor by rescuing her from this unwanted visitor. It worked for awhile but we were unsuccessful and lost our faithful guardian.
So, as much as we loved our forever home and forever guardian, we find ourselves in the position of having to find another. I know it is difficult to get a feel for how wonderful we are. We sure would appreciate it if you would read the descriptions of us and look at our pictures. Perhaps they will peak your interest or you may know of someone who would be willing to make us a part of their family.
If you have any questions or would like to see us for real, our guardian’s friend Jane Mooney is working diligently to find us homes. You can reach Jane at jdmooney@bepawswecare.com or on her cell at 703-470-6130.
Hi, my name is Duncan. I am a Shepherd Mix but look very much like a purebred shepherd. I have black and tan coloring and think I am quite good looking. I am a six year old neutered male. My birthdate is 4/8/2002. I am great with children and get along well with other dogs. What you should really know about me is that I love to play with anyone; two legged or four, who will play with me. Don’t tell anyone but despite my 77 pound frame, I am scared of cats. I have quite a bit of energy and am very vocal about expressing my feelings. When Nancy adopted me in 2002, I had a bout with mange but that was treated and I have not had a recurrence since. I am house trained, crate trained and leash trained and used to a fenced in yard. I have become bosom buddies with my pal Georgia so I know my human friends are going to do everything possible to keep Georgia and me together.

Hello, this is Georgia. Actually, I respond much better to my nickname, “Pretty”. I am the matriarch of our pack at 9 years old. I was born on 12/8/98. I am spayed and I am a purebred German Shepherd. I think you will find my red and black coloring quite attractive. I am the smallest of the bunch but every part of my 62 pound body is full of love and affection. I am great with children. I too have a secret. Something happened in my past (before Nancy) and I get along fabulously with other male dogs but not with other female dogs. As sweet as I am, when I encounter another female dog, I don’t do well. The other thing you should know about me is that I love to chase things. I am not sure how I would do in a home with cats as I have never been exposed to them. I am in very good health and so much want to be housemates with my forever buddy, Duncan. I am house trained, crate trained, leash trained and used to a fenced in yard.

| DESCRIPTION:
My dog is named, Gilda. She is a 12-year-old
female pure-bred AKC-certified German Shepard. She is up
to date on her shots, crate-trained, healthy, active and friendly.
She has no hip problems, as I know is a problem for many other
adult German Shepherds. If you didn't know how old she was,
you would guess that she was much younger. If she had any
serious health problems or other physical disabilities, I might
consider putting her to sleep, but because she is doing so well,
and do not think that this is a good idea for her. She is
great with children and adults, but since she grew up without
any other pets around, she does tend to be territorial or jealous
with other cats or dogs, so she would be much better off in a
home that does not already have another pet around.
We have had Gilda since she
was a puppy, but unfortunately, she lives with my father now who
lives alone and is unable to take care of her. I want to
find a new home for her because I believe that she can be a valuable
companion for someone and because she is in serious need of a
new loving home. She enjoys being outdoors, but she can
stay inside a house and just be let out sometimes, or be taken
on walks. She adapts well to new lifestyles and environments,
as she has had to do this during several transitions in my family's
life. At this time, she is not being taken care of well, however,
and things are not going to get better any time soon, so I would
really appreciate it if someone could give Gilda a new home. Thank
you for your attention and I hope to hear back from you as soon
as possible.

Description: This dog's owner died suddenly this Summer, leaving Kurt alone and chained in the yard. The owner had been unable to care for the dog well for several months, and by the time we got Kurt, he had developed a severe skin infection causing a lot of hair loss, and he was very thin. We got him medical attention from a terrific vet, and he is now being cared for by my family. We have had Kurt for several weeks now, and he has made amazing progress in both his physical condition and in adjusting to our family in this short time! He has put on weight and his hair is growing back nicely. He is very gentle, playful and loves people and other dogs. We are committed to finding a good home for this lovable dog!
Kurt will make a wonderful pet. He is smart, playful and loves people and dogs. He has adjusted extremely well to all of our children, and we trust him to play with them in the yard and hand-feed him treats, as he is very gentle. He is a young, large dog and would love a yard to play in. He is pure-bred from a reputable breeder in the area who will consult on health issues and training to Kurt's owner. He is up-to-date on all of his shots.

| Description: Lilly is a 3 year old
GSD that does not get along with the other dogs in the house. The dogs
have had to be separated, which is not good for any of them. Her owner
has health issues that do not allow Lilly to go on long walks like she
needs and due to these issues finds it necessary to locate a home for
Lilly that does not have other dogs or children.
Lilly is fearful of people she does not
know. However, once she lets someone in, she loves to be with that
person and is very willing to work for him/her. She is extremely neat
and easy to live with in the house. Lilly does have a health condition -
Pancreatic Insufficiency Syndrome - which is manageable with medication.
There is another note that needs to be added.
There may be a problem with her eyes. She startles easily at times and
sometimes reacts if something new appears in her vision. In this, I mean
if a branch appears in the yard that was not there the time before when
she was out, she will bar at it until she gets close enough to see what it
is. She will also be cautious if you use a different voice (i.e. baby talk,
change your voice, etc.) until she realized you are playing and that it is
you. She also doesn't like vacuums or lawn mowers. She tries to grab them.
She is a great dog that loves to play frisbee
and go for walks. She also likes to act like a teenager and "talk back" at
times when you try to get her to do something that she doesn't want to do. It
almost sounds like "woo, woo". She also likes to play keep away with the
balls. At least until she gets bored. She loves to sleep on cushions and
will frequently sneak onto the couch when we are not looking. She also likes
to hide her toys under the couch, shelves or anything low to the ground so
that you have to dig them out to keep her from crawling under them. Sometimes
she even watches tv. She used to drag dishes out of the sink and take them
down the hallway. And she thinks the bathtub is a great thing to jump in on
occasion as long as there is no water in it. She also will not take a bath
unless you get in the tub with her and hold on.

Description: They are in desperate need of a home. They have all had their parvo shots and been wormed twice. I have had maggie (momma) for 3yrs, she has had 2 litter of pups and is very healthy. She needs a home where she can run, she is very energetic and extremly good natured. There are 2 girls and 1 boy. Jake is the boy, hes the leader of the pack. He's black with a little white on his chest. Foxy is my pick of the three she is very timid, loveable, and has one bright blue eye and one brown eye. The vet said shes not blind that it was caused from having husky or blue heeler in her breed. She was the runt out of 9 pups, and Ive had to seperate her from the others cause they pick at her. Then theres Karma, shes the attention getter. She looks more like a german shepard then the rest of them. Her markings are beautiful, her coat looks like a chocolate and caramel mix. she has a black snout and a brown face. These pups were born August 27, 2007. I have no means of keeping them much longer. I ran into finanicial problems and my son and I had to move in with family for awhile and they are currently being kept pinned up together except for Foxy and she has been put with another dog in the family. They are to wonderful to be put to sleep and if I cant get rid of them soon I have no choice but to do that.PLEASE HELP!!!!
The contact person is not the owner but volunteer with another rescue that is helping place the mom and puppies.

Description: These 2 dogs are currently in New Rochelle, NY. Teri is their owner. She bought the older Female, Prada from a breeder who shipped Prada (3 yrs old) to her 2.5 years ago. What the breeder did not know, or neglected to tell Teri was that Prada was pregnant… so despite only wanting one dog, Teri got a 2 for 1 deal! And Ginger (about 2 year old) arrived shortly after Prada did.
Both girls are spayed and up to date with their shots and healthy. They love to go for walks and are typical german shepherds, lots of energy, enjoy their exercise, love hanging out with their people, and can be a tad protective of their home. They prefer adults and older children ( teen age years). They could both use a little training. They also currently do not like to be around other dogs.
Their human parents have fallen on some hard financial times, and mom has some health issues, and hard financial situation and they are going to have to sell their house shortly and move – and they’re not sure where. They want to keep these two together and they want to make sure they go together to a very loving home where they will get the love, attention, care, exercise, and family that they need, and deserve.
I have spoken to Teri extensively and she has tried everything she could possibly have tried to make this work. Her son would take them but they aren’t terribly fond of little kids and he has one. She’s tried contacting all the rescues in her area and was told they had no available foster homes. She tried her vet – who told her to put them down!!! Which obviously was out of the question. (In her defense.. she used to take her dogs to the same vet my family did when we lived in the area. This vet recently passed away so she hasn’t been seeing this new vet for very long and won’t be seeing him ever again after that comment).

Description:
We found Pumpkin and Patch on the side of the road one evening. Both kittens clearly had been around people
previously as they were not completely petrified of us and were not doing a great job of taking care of
themselves out on their own. Since it was obvious that they both had upper respiratory infections, we
took them to the vets and brought them back home. They are recovering nicely here, both are FeLV and FIV
negative, were wormed, will get their first shots and be neutered prior to adoption. They are very sweet
kitties that are looking for a home to call their own!

Other Dogs OK: Most. He has met a few larger dogs he did not like, but has had 100% success with dogs smaller than himself and is good with larger dogs if properly introduced. Description: This is Rocky. A few months ago I found him wandering a country road near my house. He was starving so I took him in and nursed him back to health. I tried to find his owners but no one ever came forward. Animal Control said the road I found him wandering is a popular dump spot for unwanted pets. He was definitely a pet to someone before he came to me. When I took him in he grabbed a chew toy on the floor and jumped on the sofa! He knew what they were for, so I'm pretty sure he was abandoned.
Rocky is German Shepherd Mix. He is on the smaller side, about 45lbs, housebroken, knows sit and stay and is good with small dogs. He is UTD on all shots, on flea and heartworm preventive and I have had him neutered.
Rocky is VERY intelligent and has excellent focus and attention span when motivated. He can perform search and rescue operations to recover tennis balls in distress and treats in danger of not being eaten. He is a sweet boy who needs to find his permanent family.
If intersted please contact me. I will need some refernces and permission to ask vet for a refernce as well. I will want to visit his potential new home as well. Rocky will come with some toys, a month of flea and heartworm preventive, collar, bed and some food. No adoption fee, I just want him to find an amazing PERMANENT home.

Description: Miss Sadie is a 2-3 year old
mix (your guess is as good as ours as to what she might be mixed with). Her haircoat, stature, face, and activity level leads us
to speculate that she may have Border Collie in her somewhere. Whatever she may be, she's a cutie-pie that deserves a second chance
and a life-long home. Sadie gets along well with other friendly dogs and cats too. She is crate-trained, and is learning to ride nicely
in a car. She's a snuggler, and somewhat of a shadow. She's completely up-to-date on her vaccinations and has tested negative for heartworm
and other tick-bourne diseases. Sadie is full-grown at 52lbs. All she needs now is a place to call home. Please contact her foster mommy at
adoptsadie@aol.com. You must have an approved application with VGSR or Tara's House Rescue
http://www.tarashouse.net in order to be considered to adopt Sadie.

Description: We have had her since 8 weeks but made the mistake of not socializing her. She is very territorial and will bark at and try to get to anything near her home. She is great with my son as he can roll all over her, pull her ears, stick his hand in her mouth and has no problems. Due to her lack of socialization it is impossible for us to walk her with all the animals and kids in our small development so she is not getting the excersize she needs. She is current on all shots and microchipped.

Description: Loving silver and black female. Young adult-- 1 year old? Is not spayed and does not appear to have had puppies. Eager to please… almost too much so I have taught her to sit to be petted. Is learning basic commands now and learns quickly. Has obviously been hit in the past and will cower if you raise hand too fast. But does not snap, growl, or "panic" in fear. Comes when called and does not try to escape from fence. Loves to be held and will lay next to you for hours. This girl will be a fine and loyal companion and will stay by your side through thick and thin. Surprisingly an "easy keeper".

Description: I have been working with Woody over the past
few months and he is really improving. He walks much better on a
leash and gets along with other dogs. He is very inquisitive and
loves attention. His lineage Lab/ Retriever make him very aware
of his surroundings so he is constantly looking checking things
out. This guy is no problem and we continue to work on proper leash
etiquette. He was great in the park with loads of children and other
dogs. House broken yes and can remain home for extended periods
of time without incident. He loves playing with his stuffed animal.
giving kisses, and being cuddled. He would love to be in a home
that has a fenced in area and plenty of room to run. |
