Description

Meet Colonel! He is a slim boy found running as a stray. He's a very friendly boy, loves long walks and attention. Colonel definitely needs to put on several pounds to get to an ideal weight. He announces himself when we bring him out of the kennel and really just wants to cut loose and run and play. We are working on basic commands with him but he would enjoy training class. If you think this sweet boy would be a good attention to your family please ask to meet him today.

Updates

Sadly, Colonel has had a pretty rough start in his short life. Shortly after arrival, Magsr volunteers noticed that Colonel walks a little different. Upon X-rays it was noted that Colonel has an old leg injury that healed on its own, it also noted he had gunshot pellets in his muscle.  The pellets noted on the radiographs are not significant enough to warrant removal.  Colonel is thin and has poor muscle quality.  He will need to build his muscle tone by walking at a pace that causes him to use his rear legs independently and going on walks up hills with a mild incline. Long leash walks, exercise, ball and Frisbee play will help keep his joints limber. Colonel also needs love and attention. Colonel needs a family to show him that all humans aren't cruel. Even after all that Colonel has been through he still remains sweet and gentle with everyone he meets. He always greets us with a smile and a happy dance. MAGSR is committed to helping sweet Colonel by stopping at no means to get him to a healthy weight and physically stronger.  If you are a family to give him the much needed love and attention that he deserves please ask to meet this sweet boy today.

Colonel has been in a foster home for a couple of weeks. He's a sweet, happy boy who loves playing and affection. Colonel has put on a few needed pounds and has more to go to get to an ideal weight. Colonel's ability to use his rear legs independently has greatly improved with daily long walks including short inclines, and he's good with 3 or 4 steps. Patience and treats were needed for his first flight of stairs and going up was easier than coming down. Colonel walks well with the resident foster dog. He enjoys fetch, chase, and tug with tennis balls and tug-of-war toys with both humans and other dogs. Colonel will protect his humans from squirrels and rabbits when needed on his walks, so he may be a "no" for cats, but we haven't confirmed that yet. Colonel is both crate trained and house broken. He's learning sit and stay, and is great with older children and eagerly awaits and loves ear and belly rubs. He loves to lean into you and rub against you to say hello - he's very affectionate and loves his humans. He may inadvertently knock down very young children when greeting or playing. When outside, Colonel enjoys laying nearby to take in all the sounds and smells. This sweet, fun boy is ready to be your playmate and a part of your loving family.

Colonel is easy going, playful, and eager to please. He knows how to sit, lay down, go to bed (crate), give his paw for a treat, and stop while walking on a leash. He's learning to drop a toy or ball after fetch, though he would rather play keep away or chase with it! Colonel is super affectionate and even tries to sit in my lap occasionally. He looks for his foster sister when back from walks and is super excited to see her, wagging his tail and kissing her, he's adorable. He "play growls" during tug and enjoys the challenge of getting biscuits out of a Kong or treat ball. He's not too sure about getting into the tub, but tolerates a bath with no problem at all. He really enjoys getting towel dried even after walking in the rain! He loves going for car rides, sits quietly or lays down. Colonel's PT is going very well and he's making steady progress and strengthening up his muscles! Ask to meet sweet Colonel!
