One of the largest puppy mill busts found hundreds of German Shepherd's living in absolute filth and in horrendous condition. Ankle deep mud and feces mixed with urine, no adequate shelter, lacking food and clean water is how these dogs were left to live, many for years. The urgent call was made and MAGSR knew we had to take in as many as possible. We now have 38 dogs that have a multitude of medical needs that we are addressing, and they need to learn to trust humans. All dogs are scared, some are shut down, but our volunteers and vets will get them on their road to recovery. It will be awhile before these dogs are ready for adoption, so please be patient and watch for updates.
An undertaking of this size for an all-volunteer rescue is quite a task, but one we are meeting it head on. Many of the dogs require medical boarding so that they can receive the best possible care. We are committed to providing everything they need, not only medically, but emotionally. Our medical costs are going to be at an amount we have never seen before. We need your help, the dogs need your help. Please donate , your donation will go towards their ongoing care, medical needs, emotional needs and help them on their road to recovery and a brighter future.

Darby came to us as a surrender as his family did not have time for him. Puppies take a lot of time, they need to be potty trained, taught not too chew on things they shouldn't, socialized outside of the family, taught leash manners, provided with lots of exercise and training. They do best when provided with structure and exercise to burn off their puppy energy. They are a lot of work but well worth the effort if you have the time and are willing to make a commitment for their lifetime. Darby will need all of this, he will have you laughing and at times frustrated but he is very worth it.

Liesl's family surrendered her as their busy lifestyle kept them from providing her with proper exercise and attention. She lived in a home with 3 young children and did well with them. Liesl will bark at other dogs when she is on a leash, but does well with them off leash. This of course can be worked with through training. Training, along with structure will go a long way in teaching Liesl good canine manners. It also helps build a bond with her new family. Liesl can be somewhat wary when meeting new people, this also can be addressed with training and socialization.

Simba was adopted from our rescue as an 8 week old puppy. His prior family did not take pet ownership seriously, nor did they commit to him for his lifetime. They returned him as they were too busy to care for him. Simba lived in his prior home with young children and got along well. He is a happy, friendly boy with lots of young energy. Training is required, it will help Simba learn good canine manners and will build a bond with his new family. Please be sure you are prepared to commit to Simba for his lifetime and have the time and energy to dedicate to a young dog.

Bentley was adopted from our rescue in 2012, he lived with 3 children for which two of the 3 he did well with. The youngest child, age 2 was not taught proper manners around a dog, Bentley of course did not appreciate this. So, instead of correcting the situation Bentley was given up, thrown out of the home and family he has known for 6 1/2 years. He also did not receive the proper veterinarian care and now has an old injury to one of his wrists. He will be seeing one of our vets for an evaluation. He is also very over weight, so he has been started on a diet. Bentley greeted our volunteers with friendliness. Bentley is looking for a family who will commit to him for his lifetime, one that will provide him with the proper care and a lifetime of love. He would do best in a home with children that are respectful and have proper manners around dogs. Kennel living is no place for a senior dog that has only known the comforts of home.

Dieter came to us from a not so good situation. He was used as a breeding dog, he was not provided with proper care or adequate living conditions. Thankfully after complaints and an investigation he, along with other dogs were confiscated. Dieter is now in our care where he is looking for a family that will provide him with a loving and warm home, where he means more to his family than just a stud. Dieter is learning to trust humans that are kind and caring, we suspect this is something he has not had before. He can be standoffish with new people, but our volunteers are working with him. He was known as the alpha of the pack, always checking on his fur family. He will need someone with GSD experience, who will commit to working with him and showing him that humans can be caring, loving people.

Kalani was found wandering country roads, she was taken to a shelter. She is underweight, but will begin to gain weight with regular nutritious meals. She is such a love, she enjoys belly rubs, leaning into her person for petting and she is full of kisses and tail wags. Training of course is required, as we want Kalani to have good canine manners. She is young, so be prepared for an energetic girl who will require daily exercise.

Rambo came to us as owner surrender as his former person was not able to continue to care for him. Rambo is a friendly boy, although he is unsettled with the recent changes in his life. He needs time to adjust to all of the changes. He can be mouthy when things he shouldn't have are taken away from him. Training, of course, will help him learn manners, work on any unwanted behaviors and help him settle into life with a new family. He lived with a cat in his previous home and we are told he did fine. He is currently in a foster home being given time to adjust to losing his home and family. His foster will provide an update soon.

Melina is shy and somewhat skittish of humans, but you can see just how much she wants to be loved on by humans. She's a dog's dog and seems will need canine companionship to thrive as she comes out her shell with other dogs. A dog to play with in the home would be the best match for her. She of course will need a patient family that will show her being a part of a caring family is a wonderful thing. Riptide was originally adopted from a shelter, where he then went on to live his life on a chain with not enough food and no shelter. This is why it is so important that anyone wanting to adopt a dog is checked out by shelters and rescues. Riptide was promised a better a life when the shelter adopted him but that is not what he received. That is all changed now that he is with MAGSR, we will make sure he finds a loving and caring family, that can provide him a home, a comfy bed, good nutrition and care. Riptide's name is very fitting, he is a high energy boy that is not sure what to do with new found freedom from the chain. He will need training and structure, along with lots of exercise.

Blue was surrendered to us as his loving family fell on hard times and did not have the finances to continue to care for Blue. He is very much loved by his previous family and they only want what's best for him. Blue is having some allergy issues which has caused some fur loss and irradiated skin. He is on medication to bring him some relief, we have changed his diet and he will be seen by our vet. As you can imagine, Blue is quite confused with losing his family and home. He lived with children ages 6 through 16. We are giving Blue time to settle in and become accustom to his new surroundings and our volunteers.

She needs a place to rest her body and soul, to go for leisurely strolls, to lay in the sun and take in the day, to have a big comfy bed of her very own and to finally know true love. Rhee lost her family and home as her Military family were stationed overseas until 2022. Rhee was staying with a family friend but unfortunately did not adjust well and was not getting along with the other dogs in the home. Rhee will require time to adjust to yet another change in her life, a family with patience that will provide structure is best. She lived with children since she was 11 months old with no issues. She has been through professional obedience training, but a refresher course with her new family is required.

Trooper was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. Upon being found he had numerous abrasions and gashes on his legs. He was seen by the vet immediately, had his wounds cleaned and sutured. He is still healing from whatever caused his injuries, but is healing well. Trooper is need of a strong handler, someone that will set rules and provide structure. Training is needed, as he needs to learn manners and good dog behavior. Trooper can be spooked by things he is not familiar with so ongoing socialization is important.
Unfortunately, Trooper tested heartworm positive when seen by MAGSR's vet. This could have been avoided had he been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives. Trooper is in the beginning stages of his heartworm treatment, which of course MAGSR will pay for his entire treatment. Treatment is expensive, but Trooper is certainly worth the cost. Donations towards his treatment would be greatly appreciated, this would also help us save other dogs with medical needs. He will have to take it slow for the next few months while he undergoes treatment, so lots of rest will be in order.

Lexi came back to us after 5 years as her adopter had many changes in her life, some of them tragic. Lexi is very much loved and was well cared for, but unfortunately her family was not able to continue to provide her with the best home. She lived with smaller dogs and cats, she also enjoyed frequent visits by the grandchildren. She is overweight, but with a reduced calorie diet she will have her girly figure back in no time. Lexi would love to know the comforts of a home once again and the love and companionship of a family.
