Sadly Sadie recently lost her human dad as he unexpectedly passed away and her human mom is disabled and hospitalized. As you can imagine Sadie is quite confused as to why she is not with her family, in a strange place with people she does know. We are giving her time to settle in and adjust to her new surroundings. She has been skittish with us but once she is comfortable with our volunteers she comes out of her shell and enjoys romping around. Sadie would do best in a home that is not very busy as she is somewhat of a flight risk as she continues to look for her family. With time and patience she will overcome this and become bonded to her new family.

Tasha found herself in a shelter for reasons unknown by us. She is a friendly girl, enjoys spending time with her people, going for walks/runs and lots of play time. She would benefit greatly from training to teach her good manners, proper leash skills and to help create the bond with her family. Ask to meet beautiful, sweet Tasha.

History: Surrender to Shelter
Keizy was surrendered to a shelter as her family had too many dogs in their home. She is a beautiful, young and friendly GSD, she will benefit from training to help be the best she can be. She needs to brush up on her leash skills, this is something her new family can spend time working with her on. Being more petite she is much easier to handle. Keizy is looking for a family who will commit to her for her lifetime.

Gypsy cannot be any cuter and is absolutely a great little girl, happy go lucky and loves to give puppy kisses. Gypsy has a lot to learn about going a good canine citizen and will require training. Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment. Puppies are full of energy and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Gypsy will become even more of an amazing girl than she already is. Please inquire if Gypsy sounds like a good match for your family.

Harmony was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter. She is missing a rear paw which appears to be from an old injury. This does not slow her down, she can run and play as well as any 4 pawed dog. She is friendly and very much enjoys a good belly rub. Harmony will need training to help her overcome her dislike of vacuums, hairdryers, etc. This can be easily dealt with by putting her away when these items are in use and of course ongoing training. Harmony will make a loving companion for a very lucky family.

Meet Chief! He's a young, exuberant boy. He was surrendered to a shelter when his family reported they could not handle him. However, he has had very minimal training. This is a perfect example of why training is so important. His former family stated he was good with children and cats, but we have not yet tested him with either.
While he is still very new to us, we will provide updates as we learn more about him. As of now, though he is still somewhat bewildered about what has happened, we are happy to report that he is doing well and is warming to us while we get to know each other. Stay tuned!

Kayla is approximately 10 months old. She came from a horrific hoarding situation. A large number of dogs that had no medical care, lack of human contact and socialization, filthy living environments, etc. Kayla is quite skittish at this time, she will need a person who will help bring her out of her shell. She needs socialization, to be introduced to the world around her, proper care and direction from her family. She deserves the chance to know that not all people are bad, that she is safe and much loved. A quieter, less active home would be best for her, with someone who has the patience to help her move forward. A home with a lot of people coming and going, especially young children would not be in her best interest. It is not that Kayla is not good with children, but she is a possible flight risk due to her skittishness. A door inadvertently left open could prove dangerous for Kayla. In the short time she has been in our care she has started to come out of her shell, interested in new things and seeking out attention. It is imperative that the family adopting Kayla is certain it will be for her lifetime, please be sure you can make that commitment.

Bo came to us from a shelter, so we have no history on him. He can be picky about his dog friends and may do best as an only dog or with female dogs. Gema came to us from a shelter, where she had been adopted from but then returned. She was in a open feed situation with a number of other dogs in the home and Gema could not handle being fed that way with other dogs. To take a dog and put them with dogs who were raised with open feeding and expect them to just fit in at feeding time is most times not going work. One big bowl of food for all of the dogs and you can only imagine how this could not work. Gema is a friendly girl and does enjoy the company of other dogs, but she will require to be fed separately. Training and guidance will go a long way for Gema, helping her learn to be well balanced and the best she can be.

Blitz was found dumped on the side of the road, very scared and confused. This sweet boy is deaf and was alone it was no wonder he was scared. Don't let the idea of a deaf dog scare you from adopting him, they can be easily trained with the use of a vibration collar and hand signals. Blitz didn't deserve to tossed away like trash, he is a sweet and loving puppy who will make a wonderful family member. He is currently in a foster home getting use to his new surroundings and of course living the good life he so deserves. Please open your heart and home to him, he will be forever grateful.

Bristol was not well cared for by her previous person. She often went without being fed, allowed to run at large putting her in danger of being hit by cars. She has had no training and no guidance. Regardless of her lack of her care and guidance she is a sweet, friendly young girl. She enjoys the company of and playing with other dogs and she is good with children. Karmela did have a home and family of her own until one day they dumped her a shelter. We know that in her previous home she lived with children and other dogs. She is a calm, well mannered girl who would enjoy spending time with her family. Karmela had an ear infection that was left untreated which caused her ear to crumple, she is currently under the care of our vet. If you are looking for a dog that is more grounded and past the juvenile antics Karmela is your girl.

Misty was surrendered as she was not getting along with the small dogs in the home. She has also never been around children so we do not know how she would be with little ones. She is all puppy, chewing things she shouldn't (dog beds are her favorite thing to chew), still needs to learn obedience and manners, has potty accidents, needs out in the middle of the night and oh that energy...what fun. He still has many puppy mannerisms and looks like a puppy still. He has a lot of energy that will need to be dealt with by providing plenty of exercise and playtime. Ozzie's former person took ill and was no longer able to care for him. He was brought to the VA area by a family member and is now in our care looking for his forever family. Ozzie is a very big boy at 94 lbs He has undergone formal training but will require further training with his new family. He has not lived with dogs before but did well meeting another German Shepherd during our evaluation. Ozzie does have the tendency to herd (nip at) children, for this reason we feel it is best that he not be placed in a home with young children. A boy of this size can be intimating to small children and he could also accidentally knock them down. For the most past Ozzie's former person exercised Ozzie on daily 2 mile walks and lots of games of fetch. Daily exercise is key to keep energy in check, so please be sure you have the time to commit to his exercise needs, training and of course a lifetime of love and care.

Briggs was surrendered to a shelter by his former family as he may have EPI, which is easily treatable. They had planned on breeding him with their female Shepherds, thankfully that will not happen now. With so many unwanted dogs in shelters we did not need more to add to those that die everyday. We will be having Briggs tested for EPI and should he have it he will be started on enzymes, it's that simple. He is such a friendly boy who thinks he is a lap dog. He is good with other dogs. In the time he has been out of the shelter Buck has been very friendly with all people he meets and enjoys the company of other dogs. Candi and Brandi showed up one day at a construction site, the workers fed and cared for them in hopes someone was looking for them. They then ended up at a shelter as strays. We are not sure if they are sisters or mother and daughter, but they do look similar. They are estimated to be between 6 to 7 years old, Candi does look a little younger than Brandi. The vet feels they were caused by a flea allergy and had not been properly treated. The area on his back, base of tail and tail had to be shaved so that administration of topical medication can be applied properly. We are hopeful with the care he is receiving that he will be healed.
