DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Huntington has known the warmth of a very loving family, but unfortunately a family health issue has forced an unthinkable and very hard decision to do what is best for this stunning, smart, working-line, pure German Shepherd.  While having to make the most difficult decision, Hunter's family made the right choice and we have a lot of information on Handsome Huntington to ensure he goes to the perfect family!

Huntington is a well mannered, housebroken, working-line GSD that has some training and knows many commands - he even knows how to “smile” for the vet for a teeth check!  Since Huntington is of working-line, he is not for the novice GSD/dog owner and would do best in a household who is experienced with working-line GSD’s. This household will need to know how to provide an environment, structure, balance and the leadership needed for him to thrive.

Handsome Huntington is eager to please and is treat driven, something that will come in handy when reinforcing boundaries, training and teaching new commands.  He is well versed in these commands: sit, down, with me, wait, curb, place, break, up, come, Gee (right), Haw (left), around, other side, peek-a-boo and so much more! In addition to his impressive working-line resume, he has lived with two older cats, has been around other dogs and kids, but is particular with who he will interact with - a steadfast trait of working-line GSD.

Huntington will probably need some time and extra treats to decompress. This will give him the chance to fully understand the change in his situation and that his new family will love him just the same, if not more!  He is eager to please, but boundaries and training will need to continue in order for him to shine bright and show what a well mannered ‘Handsome Hunter’ can add to the right family. He will thrive in a home and environment where he will be provided the basic necessities associated with a seasoned GSD owner and a family familiar with the working-line breed of the GSD, which includes, but is not limited to ongoing training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If you think you are ready for Handsome Huntington to blaze trails or snuggle up to, please ask to add Huntington to your family today!

Odin was absolutely adored by his dad. However, when unforeseen circumstances arose, his dad knew he could no longer provide Odin with the life he deserved. So, the decision was made to surrender Odin to MAGSR. We promised Odin's dad that we would find him a forever family that would cherish him for a lifetime.

Odin is an outstanding dog. He is intelligent, playful, and energetic. A fan of adventures, Odin is looking for a family that will give him daily exercise for both his body and his mind. This help Odin maintain a stable and confident personality. It is highly apparent that his dad put foundational skills in place to help Odin meet with success. Odin was well socialized in various environments and with various people. As a well socialized dog is a happy dog, his forever family will need to continue this process. A fan of other dogs, Odin enjoys his playtime and can be a goofy guy. Opportunities to socialize in safe and structured environments will be critical to maintaining these skills. As is true of all GSDs, Odin is looking for a family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership he needs to meet with success. With a few commands in place already, Odin is ready to continue training. Training will not only help Odin develop into a good canine citizen, but it will also help him develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family. Having lived in a household, Odin already knows many of the ins and outs of living in a home. He is already housebroken and crate trained! However, as is true of all new family members, Odin will need time to adjust to the specific routines of his family. Given time, patience, and structure, we know he will succeed. Odin is looking for a forever family that will love and protect him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Lucy
Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 5 months 1 week

Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs
Housebroken: No, I'm a puppy!
Obedience Trained: Working on it

Good With Kids: Likely
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Likely
DESCRIPTION:

Little Miss Lucy was found all alone on the streets of a busy city. Fortunately, a good Samaritan found her and brought her to a shelter hoping she would find her forever family. Although Lucy waited to be reclaimed, no one stepped up for her. As a shelter environment is not a good place for a baby, we were lucky to be able to step in and help this little sweetheart move forward.

Lovely Lucy is an absolute doll. This little girl is in many ways your typical young shepherd. Lucy is wiggly, playful, and inquisitive. Fortunately, Lucy's foster family is already starting to socialize this little lady. However, it is imperative that Lucy's forever family continue this process. She will need opportunities to interact with new people, animals, and environments. These experiences will help Lucy develop into a confident and stable adult dog. Lucy is still learning the ins and outs of living in a home. However, this little girl is making great strides. Consistency, routine, and patience will help Lucy continue to meet with success. Although Lucy is adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time and patience, we know that Lucy will develop into the good canine citizen we know she is destined to become. If this little girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

DESCRIPTION:

Knight was adored by his family. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they could no longer provide him with the life that he deserved. Recognizing that this big guy would be most successful if placed within a rescue, they reached out to MAGSR for rescue placement. Upon meeting Knight, we knew that this guy was special and would be an excellent addition to the MAGSR family. We promised his previous owners that we would find him an amazing forever family that would cherish him for a lifetime.

Knight is a big, handsome, intelligent guy. He was clearly well socialized with other people. However, he was in need of a few additional manners when he arrived in our care. Using his size to his advantage, Knight enjoyed pulling his handler behind him on walks and adventures. Although Knight seemed to find this arrangement acceptable, it created a little too much additional work for his handlers. Recognizing that Knight would need a little support as he moved forward, our volunteers immediately stepped in and began teaching him manners. A smart guy, it did not take night long to understand the rules and expectations in place went on leash. With clear leadership and direction, this big guy is quickly making improvements. Knight is already making huge strides with obedience; however, it is critical that his forever family continue this process. Training will be a key component to his success. Not only will training help Knight create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a good canine citizen.

As a young guy, Knight has plenty of energy and an exuberance for life. He is looking for an active family that will take him along on their adventures. With a solid understanding of toys, Knight is hoping that his forever family enjoys playtime as much as he does. He is still learning to return toys when thrown, but we know these skills will develop with time. Knight is searching for a forever family that will provide him with the time, training, and endless cuddles that he knows he deserves. If this big boy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.

Updates:

Knight has moved in to Foster accommodations and has begun his path to learn about behaving himself in a house as part of a pack. He's still a big exuberant pup but is very smart and is learning quickly what is expected of him. His Foster is willing to take him to training as a part of the path to help him find his forever home. As a very large dog, it's important that he knows what is expected of him and how he's to behave. Stay tuned for future updates on his progress.

DESCRIPTION:

The Fall puppies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato (Tator) - were an accidental litter. Raised together with their parents, these dogs have had the chance to learn many doggy social skills. Although their human family enjoyed the puppies, it can be difficult to care for a large litter and challenging to find safe and loving homes. Recognizing that the Fall puppies would be most successful if placed within a breed specific rescue, their family contacted MAGSR. We promised that we would find each pup a safe and loving forever family that would cherish these babies for a lifetime.

The Fall puppies are very large babies for their age. They are clearly big fans of food. Having spent time outside, these babies love the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors. So, they are hoping their forever families love adventures. Although these babies have been socialized well with their doggy family, they have not been exposed to many new people or situations. Socialization is critical to their success. Recognizing that social skills are essential as the Fall puppies move forward, our amazing volunteers are already beginning this process. Learning the ins and outs of living in a household, these babies are learning the joys of endless toys, comfortable beds, and loads of love. As they continue to move forward, all six babies will strive in households that will provide the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds crave.

Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless antics. With time, training, and patience, all 6 babies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato - will develop into good canine citizens. If one of the Fall puppies sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet these fluffy bundles of joy today!

Updates:

She hasn't been in the crate since Thanksgiving and she's done super well. She plays some while I'm gone at work during the day by herself with toys with her foster sister, Sage, but mostly sleeps.

She only had two accidents in the house over a month and a half ago when she was going through her upset tummy stage, but tried her best to make it outside!

She likes walks on leashes and loves playing the backyard with toys, but mostly with her foster sister. She definitely would benefit from individualized leash training, (she does excellent when I only have her on leash and a family member visiting has Sage, but is a strong puller when I walk both of them together which is the daily norm).

She knows: sit, come, touch, drop it/ leave it, move (she's a big girl and can block you in a room!). However, she would still benefit from lots more training as she's so smart she'll look at you to respond to a command and if she knows there's no treats on hand, sometimes she'll turn away.

She took a 9 hr road trip over winter break with me and did excellent riding in the car. She also LOVED being in a house with more people. Every time my stepmom, dad, or sister would enter a room she would greet them for pets with a big wagging tail. She also did great playing with a third young dog in the house, and a fourth senior dog who didn't want to be bothered and she left alone.

In the short time I saw her in a family environment with other pets it's clear she would be a great addition to a family but she also does well alone with me. She might prefer more people and I would say she definitely prefers dog siblings to play with.

DESCRIPTION:
The Fairy Sisters - Fern, Merriweather, and Tink - were part of a surprise litter. Although most of their littermates found loving homes, these lovely little ladies were not as lucky. Recognizing that puppies are adorable, but a lot of work, their family decided to surrender them to a shelter. However, this proved to be a dangerous option for these babies. With shelters significantly overcapacity, owner surrenders are often immediately euthanized. In an attempt to save the lives of all three pups, the shelter contacted MAGSR to redirect the Fairy Sisters into our care. Fortunately, our team was able to find incredible foster homes for all three girls. We promised we would find the Fairy Sisters families that would love and cherish them for a lifetime.

Having moved into loving foster families, all three girls are learning the ins and outs of living in a household. Although their sisters were clearly well socialized with new people and in new situations, Fern seems to be lacking confidence with new people, animals, and environments. Continued opportunities to socialize with new people and new situations will be critical to Fern's success as she develops into a confident and stable adult. Unsure about new things, Fern's foster is patiently working with her to learn the joys of playtime with people, animals and toys. Fern is learning but will need continued opportunities to meet with success. As the Fairy sisters continue to move forward, they will benefit from continued work and patience with basic commands and leash manners. With so many new expectations, each of the Fairy Sisters will need time to learn the rules, expectations, and routines of their new homes.

Although these girls are beyond lovely, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your household with endless puppy antics. With time, training, and patience, Fern and her sisters will develop into good canine citizens. If you are looking for a new family member that will fill your home with little paws, ask to meet Fern today!
Updates:

Fern is a true sweetheart-- eager to please and motivated by praise and affection making her a quick study! Fern loves to play with other dogs after proper introductions, and would fit easily into most pack structures. She is also enjoying snuggly cats. Typical of a young GSD, she won't say no to a game of "chase the cat" but is also very easy to curb. Fern walks better on a leash than most adult, trained dogs we've met and takes a lot of confidence and direction from her handler. She is very sensitive and needs a patient, positive hand to show her what you want, and boundaries to help her understand what's expected of her. Believe me, she will try her heart out for you! While she still has plenty of energy, she loves nothing better than a good snuggle on the couch at the end of the day. Would you like to be her forever snuggle partner?

Zoe and her buddy, Nala, were surrendered to a local shelter, as their owner was not keeping them from wandering in their community. Having landed in an overcrowded shelter, both girls were living on borrowed time. Fortunately, shelter staff recognized that these girls were special and began networking them in the hopes that they would find rescue placement. When we learned about their potential fate, team MAGSR stepped in to ensure that both girls could move forward safely. We are thrilled to have been able to welcome them to MAGSR.

Zoe is friendly and interactive. She was clearly well-socialized with people. As an energetic girl who loves to romp around, Zoe is looking for an active family that loves an adventure. With daily exercise for her body and her mind, Zoe will be ready for chill time with her people. True of all young dogs, Zoe will thrive in a household that provides her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds crave. Although she has done well with other dogs, Zoe, like her buddy, does have a high-prey drive. As a result, she is not a good match for households with small animals. Having previously lived in a home, Zoe does know many of the ins and outs of living in a household. However, as is true of any new family member, Zoe will need time to adjust to the routines and expectations of her forever family. T-Rex was found wandering the wilds of the south and was on the edge of extinction before a kind samaritan found this poor fella!  We don’t know a lot about him, but as we do get to know T-Rex, we are discovering that despite his poor health and emaciation (2/9 body scale), he has a very sweet demeanor and really likes everyone he meets! T-Rex is thought to be around 3 years old and is likely housebroken, but will definitely need training to ensure he learns proper manners and can be the best GSD he can be.

Given T-Rex’s past, he is eager to find the right FUR-ever family that is willing to give him extra love, time and obviously food so he can fully recover from his not so dino-mite past.  T-Rex would really thrive in an environment where he is provided the basic necessities of a true GSD/furry family member -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If T-Rex sounds like the adventure you would like to emBARK upon, please ask to add him to your family today!

Color: Sable
Current Size: 63 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Good With Kids: Likely
Good With Cats: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

Jerry Lee is a victim of cruelty and neglect.  He was confiscated and charges were brought against his owner. Jerry Lee has moved on from his horrible past and is looking ahead to the future. Jerry Lee is a young, energetic, intelligent guy. He is looking for an active household that will provide him with the clear structure and routine that all shepherds need. Consistency and leadership are essential to developing stable and confident adult German shepherd. Coming from a situation with little opportunity for affection or interaction with the world around him, Jerry Lee is learning about the smells, sounds, and sites around him. He can be a little timid at first; however, patience and confidence go a long way with him. As is true of all young dogs, Jerry Lee will need daily exercise for both his mind and his body. This will help him develop the ability to handle new people and situations in a calm and composed manner, as well as help him develop a healthy mindset. Continued socialization is also critical for Jerry Lee as he has spent his first year with limited interactions. Providing Jerry Lee with opportunities to interact with people and other animals in a controlled manner will help him develop essential skills that could not be established while chained up. Training will be an essential piece of this process, as it will not only help Jerry Lee learn to develop a healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to be a good canine citizen. Fortunately, Jerry Lee has already learned many of his basic commands. Further practice will help him develop the stability needed to meet with success. It is important that his new family understands the needs of the breed. If Jerry Lee sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.

Unfortunately, we have learned that Jerry Lee is HW positive. This could have easily been avoided with a monthly heart worm preventative. Jerry Lee's treatment has begun. However, he will need a few months to complete the entirety of his treatment. Although heart worm treatment is expensive, MAGSR will cover the entire cost of Jerry Lee's medical treatment. Please consider donating to Jerry Lee's care as it will not only help him continue to move forward, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs. Jerry Lee is looking for a forever family that will cherish him for a lifetime. If this lovable guy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today!

DESCRIPTION:

Description: Martin’s story is one of confusion and heartache. He was ‘raised’ somewhere in Louisiana with 10 other dogs, but these poor pups were neglected and left to live a life outside, (occasionally inside), without consistent and proper care.  After a wellness check, animal control negotiated to take Martin in hopes of providing him with a better life.  When MAGSR heard about Martin, we stepped up to save this sweet, and incredibly fluffy, boy.  Despite his rocky past, he has an incredibly sweet disposition displaying love and gratitude.  Oh, and did we mention adorably fluffy?

As we get to know him through his foster family, he appears to be well mannered, and house broken.  Martin doesn't mind short periods of time in the crate, as long as he can see you or other dogs.  His foster family is waiting to introduce him to the resident cats until he is able to decompress a little and understand he is safe, loved and will be cared for.  Martin enjoyed his day at the spa, and relished in the newly found attention a good cleansing bath gave him. His foster family did notice he wasn’t confident in stairs, so this would be something to work towards in his forever home.

Martin will need time to decompress and fully understand he will be living indoors with a family that will properly love and care for him.  He is eager to please, but will need to be properly trained in order to shine bright and show what a well mannered ‘Southern Boy’ can add to the right family. He will thrive in a home and environment where he will be provided the basic necessities -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If you think you would like to add some ‘Southern Charm’ to your household, please ask to add Martin to your family today!

Updates:

Martin joined our family two weeks ago and settled in so easily from day 1!.  He is such a mild mannered, sweet and fluffy guy who just loves to be smothered with snuggles and hugs.  He enjoys playing with our energetic 1 year old GSD as well as just chilling in my office for hours.  He is definitely not a alpha and does not seem to mind my bossy older GSD female.  He is also just fine with our cat and after early interest when they first met, generally just ignores her.   He loves to be outside and would be happy to keep you company while you worked in the yard.  He is not at all aggressive or demanding.  He is very easy going and does not seem to get stressed by new situations.  He loves to explore the toys in the toy basket, pick out the perfect one and wander around the house showing everyone.  We have not heard him bark yet, even with the neighbor dogs on the fence line.  He is a tail waggin' happy to meet you kind of guy!  He enjoys the company of our other dogs (we have two) but would be fine as the lone dog as well – he just seems very adaptable.  With his friendly, calm demeanor, it would be easy to imagine him visiting hospitals or nursing homes – he is such a great guy!

Was so fun to watch him experience his first snow on Monday – Being a southern boy, he was not quite sure what to make of it but the cold air sure felt good with that thick coat.  Watch the video and you will see the joy!

Things we are working on:  Martin is a bit of a counter surfer/noser but responds to verbal correction (human and canine) easily.  Big victory yesterday, as he bravely climbed the stairs to the second floor.  Now he can sleep with the pack upstairs!  Although he enjoys a car ride, he does not like to get into the car so we currently have to pick him up to get him in.  As he gains more trust with us, I’m sure that will get easier.  He is not a fan of the crate so we are working on that.  Really though, for a shepherd, so far, easy to correct behaviors.

If you are looking for the smarts and good looks of a shepherd AND the easy going, gentle  disposition of a retriever, Martin might be perfect for your family!

We take all fosters to my parents to see if they are gentle with seniors and Martin scores a 10 out of 10!  My parents are 89 and 82 and Martin was incredibly gentle, did not jump on them and was happy to sit in front of them for lots and lots of petting.   He would be amazing as a volunteer at a senior center or hospital – his gentleness instantly drops the blood pressure in the room and brings smiles and engagement.

We did learn something today during our visit --- Martin is capable of opening latch doors (not the round knob kind) and wandering off – Thankfully, he was found quickly but any potential adopter needs to be aware of his newfound ability and wanderlust.

Wonderful Winchester was picked up as a stray in the south. Like so many dogs he was on his way to an overcrowded animal shelter, fortunately, another rescue stepped in to help. Winchester waited patiently for his family to come and claim him. However, when no one came forward after his stray hold, the other rescue began looking for a family that would welcome him into their home. They thought Winchester had found his forever family, however, at the last second, the family changed their mind and Winchester was left without a place to go. Knowing this boy deserved better, the rescue reached out to MAGSR for help. We knew this guy would be a great addition to the family and welcomed him in.

Winchester is definitely a handsome guy both inside and out. He is social, energetic, and intelligent. Clearly well socialized with other animals, Winchester understands many of the social rules needed to meet with success with his furry friends. Also well socialized with people, Winchester is interactive and playful. As is true of all young shepherds, it is critical that his family continue to provide him with the structure, routine, leadership, and socialization needed to meet with success. Winchester was lucky to have been placed with a foster family in the south while waiting for a forever family. This family began working with him to understand the ins and outs of a household. Clearly a quick learner, Winchester began picking up skills quickly. Although he has had success in the home, Winchester will, just like any new dog, need time to adjust to the rules and expectations of his forever home. Winchester is excited to go to training with his family. This experience will not only help him create a strong bond with his family, but it will also help him develop the skills he needs to be a good canine citizen. Winchester is looking for a forever family that will cherish him for a lifetime. Could that family be you?

Ideal/Potential Size: 65 lbs
Housebroken: Working on it
Obedience Trained: Working on it

Good With Kids: Likely

Other Dogs OK: Some, with proper introduction
DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Roman was dumped in a sheriff's parking lot in the south. With no one around to take responsibility for him, Roman was brought to an animal shelter in town where staff members immediately fell in love with this guy. Although they knew this guy was a good candidate for adoption, no one stepped forward for Roman. Due to endless overcrowding, once his stray hold was up, Roman was on borrowed time. Knowing that Roman deserved every opportunity to thrive in a home of his very own, staff members at the shelter began reaching out for help. When MAGSR heard that Roman needed rescue placement, we knew this boy was the perfect candidate for the MAGSR family.

Roman is one handsome dude. Typical of young shepherds, he is curious, energetic, and intelligent. Although very sweet, it does take Roman a little time to adjust to new people. It seems that he was not as well socialized as expected at his age. However, with a little time and patience, Roman does enjoy the company of his people. Currently living with an experienced foster family, Roman is benefitting from daily opportunities to socialize with new people and in new environments. Continued socialization will be critical to his success in his forever home. To help build confidence, Roman is also participating in training. Training is giving Roman the opportunity to develop trust and look to the handler for guidance. It is also helping him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. Roman is a special guy who is looking for an active family. He will thrive when provided with clear structure, routine, and leadership. If Roman sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet him today!

Dapper Django found himself at an overcrowded shelter in the south. With the number of homeless pets climbing at alarming rates, shelters are finding that they have no choice but to euthanize for space. Although young and interactive, Django was living on borrowed time. As the days passed, staff members began to worry that he would not make it out alive. Recognizing that this guy deserved a chance to live a life full of tasty treats, adventures, and endless snuggles, a plea went out for rescue placement. Django was simply too sweet to deny. So, our incredible team began collaborating with the shelter, transporters, and vets to get everything in place to move Django forward. We are so excited to have welcomed him to MAGSR.

Django is a handsome, energetic, and social guy. He loves interacting with his people and other dogs. It is highly evident that this boy was well socialized. As he moves forward, it is critical that his forever family continue this process as Django will need continued experiences to meet with success. In many ways this guy is still puppy-like; he is goofy, playful, and always ready for a new experience. Django has asked that his forever family enjoy adventures and a good laugh. We promised him we would find the perfect match. In addition, we promised that his forever family provides him with the structure, routine, and leadership that will help him thrive. Training will be a key component to Django's success. Not only will it help him create a healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop into a stable and confident canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we do know much about Django's previous life. As a result, we are unsure about his knowledge of the ins and outs of living in a household. However, this boy is eager for his next adventure, we are sure that the structure and routine of his forever home will help him with this next step. If your family is looking for a young, playful, and social guy that will bring endless smiles to your household, ask to meet Django today!

DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Ralph was adored by his family. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they needed to surrender him back to MAGSR. Although this was a heartbreaking decision, they knew that it was in Ralph's best interest to return him. We promised Ralph's family that we would find him the perfect family that would love him for a lifetime.

Ralph is an intelligent and curious boy. He enjoys exploring the world around him and is often busy making sure he doesn't miss out on anything in his environment. He has an excellent nose, particularly when it comes to treats. Really, who doesn't love treats? Having lived in a loving home, Ralph understands many of the ins and outs of the household. He is housebroken and is respectful in the home. However, as is true of all new family members, he will need time, patience, and structure when adjusting to his forever family. A playful guy, Ralph loves romping around and playing with a favorite plush stuffy. When everyone settles down in the house, Ralph loves to snuggle with his people. He is looking for a forever family that will provide him with structure, routine, and leadership. Although Ralph already knows a few basic commands, training will go a long way with Ralph. Additional training will not only help him create a strong, healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Ralph is looking for a forever family that loves playtime and snuggle time. If he sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.

Updates:

Ralph has been adjusting very well to his foster home. He has proven to get along well with our other dogs and especially likes playing with Macy. He responds favorably to basic commands and is eager to please. We're also happy to say he's lost a bit of excess weight since we've had him.

He doesn't, however, like anyone grabbing at his collar--unless of course, he knows he's about to be taken for a walk. He has liked to pull on the leash but he's gradually getting better at staying by our side when we take him to the park.

He absolutely loves attention and we believe he would be perfect for a retired individual or couple. He'd also fare very well in an empty nest household or even one with older (15+) kids. If you fit the bill, please ask about meeting him as a possible addition to your family and fur-ever home!

Clearly socialized, Tink joyfully approaches new people, happily accepts food and treats, and loves a good snuggle. Continued opportunities to socialize with new people and new situations will be critical to Tink's success as she develops into a confident and stable adult. Playful and happy to try new things, the girls are beginning some basic training but they also have plenty of opportunities to play. Recognizing that toys should be a vital part of every household, the Fairy Sisters love toys and are hoping their forever families do too. As these girls continue to move forward, they will benefit from continued work and patience with basic commands and leash manners.

With time, training, and patience, Tink and her sisters will develop into good canine citizens. Lovely Opal was picked up as a stray in the south and brought to a shelter. Although she waited patiently for her family, no one came to claim Opal. As shelters everywhere are facing overwhelming overcrowding conditions with no end in sight, Opal was living on borrowed time. Recognizing that Opal was special and deserved every opportunity to meet with success, shelter staff sent out a desperate plea for help. When MAGSR heard about Opal's need, we stepped in and welcomed her to the family.

Opal is a friendly and affectionate girl. She loves her people and has also done well with other dogs. As a five year old shepherd, Opal's personality is stable and confident. She was clearly well loved by someone at some point along her journey. Now that she is in the MAGSR family, we have promised Opal that she will be loved and cherished for the rest of her life. Opal is looking for a forever family that will provide her with structure, routine, and leadership. This will help her as she adjusts to her forever family. It will also create a predictable environment that will help her succeed. Opal has been very fortunate to have landed in a foster family that is providing her with the training needed to meet with success. Learning new commands and expectations, Opal is quickly developing the skills and mindset needed to move forward positively. Although Opal has been fortunate to have already begun her training program, it is critical that her forever family continue this process. Training is key when creating a strong and healthy bond with a forever family; it is also an essential piece of the good citizenship puzzle. DESCRIPTION:

The Kentucky Six - Diego, Champ, Serena, Peanut, Evie, and Yogi - are cruelty and neglect survivors. Living in inhumane conditions, starved, and used as breeding stock, the Kentucky Six managed to make it off the property alive when the right people heard about their conditions and got the authorities involved. All six dogs were confiscated and brought to a shelter where they waited for the chance to find kind and loving families of their very own. Although shelter staff worked hard to make sure that all six dogs began getting the care and attention they deserved, they recognized that with shelters at capacity and adoptions limited, these six precious souls may not have the chance to find their forever families. They began working with local groups and started networking the dogs in hopes that rescue placement would be found. Fortunately, their message made its way to MAGSR. Our incredible team knew that this group of dogs was very special, so we began putting plans in place to welcome the Kentucky Six to the MAGSR family.

Although Peanut's life was filled with endless challenges and suffering prior to her confiscation, she remains loving and affectionate. With a gentle demeanor and sweet personality, she easily wins over everyone who meets her. Really, who could say no to those lovely eyes? Although she has endured a lot of suffering throughout the years, Peanut's demeanor remains stable and lovable. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still friendly and interactive.  As is true of all shepherds, Peanut will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways she is still in the beginning stages of her new life. She will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Peanut will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Peanut has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help her settle into her new home. Training will also go a long way for this lovely lady. Not only will training help Peanut develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that all of the Kentucky Six are heartworm positive. This could have easily been avoided with a monthly heartworm preventative. Peanut is just beginning treatment. However, she is already handling her protocol like a pro. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR will cover the entire cost of Peanut's medical treatment. Please consider donating to Peanut's care as it will not only help Peanut continue to move forward, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs. Peanut is looking for a forever family that will cherish her for a lifetime. If this amazing lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

DESCRIPTION:

King and Duchess were adored by their mom. She did everything for them including making the decision to surrender them to rescue when she knew she couldn't continue to care for them. Recognizing that this decision and final goodbye was beyond heartbreaking, we promised to keep this pair together. King and Duchess have settled into one of our experienced senior foster homes and are getting all of the love and care they need to continue to move forward.

These dogs definitely have a special bond. King is the lover, he leans in for attention and has no problem being pet for hours on end. Although definitely a cuddler, King also enjoys playing ball and squeaking toys. He notices when anything is close to the house and alerts like all good shepherds do. Duchess is the life of the party. She is active, inquisitive, and always on point. She also enjoys some good head scratches but only for short periods of time before she is off on another exploration. Together they compliment each other very nicely. Although socialized with other large dogs, Duchess and King do best when given some time to adjust to other big dogs. Once comfortable, they like to be with the pack. Although they have had some exposure to small dogs and smaller animals, these two have too much prey drive for smaller creatures and would be happiest in a home without little furry friends. Comfortable with people, Duchess and King like making new friends; however, Duchess can take some time to warm up particularly to men. Given time and patience, they are loyal and beyond loveable companions.

As happens when we age, Duchess and King are experiencing some medical issues primarily associated with the aging process. They are both arthritic. However, with joint supplements, anti-inflammatories, and monthly osteoarthritis injections, King and Duchess are comfortable and happy to participate in daily activities. They are enjoying some extra attention from our vetting team as we get their systems adjusted to some routine care and address some physical and dental needs. As is expected, senior care can be a bit more expensive. Please consider donating to this special pair as we continue to provide them with the support they need to enjoy every day to the fullest. Duchess and King are looking for a forever home that will provide them with endless snuggles, plenty of toys, and a lifetime of love. Autumn is an intelligent and spunky girl. With a goofy and silly side, Autumn keeps her foster family entertained for hours. She has clearly learned the joy of toys and is happy to play for hours. Playful little Ranger was picked up as a stray in the south. He was brought to a local shelter where he waited for his family to come and claim him. Ranger arrived in typical puppy style. He is playful, interactive, and full of puppy antics. As is true to all puppies, stability, routine, leadership, and plenty of patience will help Ranger build the skills needed to become a stable adult dog. Emaciated and lacking some muscle mass, Ranger is now getting the extra help he needs to heal. We cannot wait to see his progress. Unfortunately, with overcrowding numbers at record breaking highs, as soon as Poppy's stray hold ended, he was placed on the list for euthanasia. We learned about Poppy's likely fate just hours before he was scheduled to cross. Fortunately, we were able to work with rescue partners and staff at the shelter to move quickly and move Poppy to the safety of the MAGSR family.

Poppy is a happy-go-lucky boy. He is friendly, social, and playful. Clearly well-socialized, Poppy loves people and has done well with older kids. When interacting with other dogs, Poppy has been interactive and appropriate. Although Poppy has already built strong social skills, it is essential that his family continues to develop and maintain these skills. Due to the limited history we have, we do not know if Poppy has had any experience in a household. However, he is a quick learner and is ready for this next stage. Although Poppy is ready for a home, like any new family member, he will need time to adjust to his forever home. With patience, structure, and routine, we are sure this handsome guy will meet with success. As Poppy moves forward, it is critical that he attends training. Training will not only help Poppy develop a strong and health bond with his forever family, it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. If this impressive guy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Poppy today!

This has helped them thrive. Now that the babies and Mama Maxie are just about ready to find their forever homes, it is time to share them with the world. Mama Maxie is clearly a special girl. She loves her people and is always ready for some hang time. Intelligent, affectionate, and clearly well socialized, Maxie has brought endless smiles and happiness to her foster family. Although Maxie does enjoy her time out and about and will need daily exercise, she also loves sleeping in the sun spot inside. Mama Maxie, just like her babies, will be ready for adoption on 10/14/23. As is true of all shepherds, Maxie will thrive in a household that provides her with the structure, routine, and leadership all GSDs need to meet with success. Training will go a long way with Maxie. DESCRIPTION:

Goofy Giovanni and his sister were picked up as strays in the south. Like so many other dogs they were brought to a shelter that is overcrowded. Although both dogs waited out their stray hold hoping their family would come and claim them, no one stepped forward. Unfortunately, unclaimed dogs are quickly added to the euthanasia list as there are not enough spaces for the number of dogs in shelters. Both Giovanni and his sister, although babies, were placed on this list. Fortunately, another rescue pulled them mere hours before they were euthanized and placed them in a foster home. Giovanni's sister was adopted by the foster family. Although they loved Giovanni as well, they knew that he would be happiest in another home. Recognizing that he may meet with better success in a breed specific rescue, he was transferred to MAGSR. We promised we would find this handsome guy a loving family that would cherish him for a lifetime.

Giovanni is in many ways your typical puppy. He is playful, adventurous, and enthusiastic about life. Having been well socialized around other dogs, Giovanni takes cues from other dogs very well and greatly enjoys his canine companions. Clearly socialized with people, Giovanni enjoys interacting. He is both playful and affectionate. A toy guy, Giovanni is hoping that his forever family has plenty of toys that roll and squeak. Still learning the ins and outs of living in a household, Giovanni is picking up expectations, but he will need continued support and patience as he adjusts to his forever home. Although Giovanni is one handsome guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, training, patience, and socialization, we know Giovanni will grow up to become a stable and confident canine citizen. DESCRIPTION:

Lovely little Chaka was picked up as a stray in the south and brought to animal control. Living in an overcrowded shelter that was significantly over capacity, Chaka was quickly added to the list for euthanasia. Fortunately, one of our rescue partners saw Chaka at the shelter and knew this little girl would be an incredible addition to a family. So, they pulled her just before her time was up and asked MAGSR if we could help Chaka continue to move forward. We knew this girl was special and welcomed her to the family.

Chaka is an absolute love. She is friendly, affectionate, and intelligent. We are so grateful this little lady made it out of the shelter alive. Having lived in a foster home for over a month, Chaka has been impressing her foster family with her social and happy personality. Chaka has done very well with other dogs and loves to play. She is hoping her forever family loves toys as much as she does. Clearly well socialized with people as well, Chaka is always ready for some snuggles and a good belly rub. She is simply a wonderful mix of play and love. Chaka does understand many of the rules and routines of a household; however, as is true of all new does, she will need time to adjust to her forever family. DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Howie was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Cute as pie this little guy was lucky to have been found by the right people. Upon arrival at the shelter, staff members knew something was not right with Howie. They immediately began pooling resources to determine how they could help. Tests were administered and it was determined that Howie is positive for parvo. Although they knew Howie deserved every chance to survive, the shelter could not provide the 24 hour care needed to help Howie move forward. So, an emergency plea went out. When we learned that Howie needed immediate support, we began working with our team to help him move forward.

Howie is still so very young. In order to survive, he will need to fight and fight hard. He does not yet know it, but MAGSR will fight right alongside him.

Parvo is a highly contagious virus; it is particularly challenging for puppies to survive. Although there is no cure, with 24/7 monitoring and supportive care, he has a chance at survival. As we move Howie forward, our vetting partners will be working with Howie to keep him hydrated, control his GI upset, and prevent secondary infections, while also keeping him monitored and warm. Parvo care is very expensive. We need the GSD community's help in order to provide Howie with every chance at survival. Please consider donating to Howie's care now so that this special boy has every opportunity to fight. Howie is in the fight for his life. Will you help him by being his hero?

Lovely Lili lived in a household with dogs of various ages and sizes. Although she did well overall, like many GSDs when structure wasn't an option, Lili would provide that structure which got her into a few scuffles with her furry siblings. Recognizing that Lili would be most successful if rehomed, her family made the difficult decision to surrender her to MAGSR. We promised we would find Lili the perfect family that would love her for a lifetime.

Lili is an active, intelligent, and friendly girl. It is clear that she was well socialized with people. Having been placed with a foster family that is providing her with daily exercise and training, Lili is excelling. She picks up new commands quickly and does a nice job taking her cues from her handler. Not only is Lili learning expectations, but she is also gaining endless opportunities to socialize with other animals in varied environments. This is helping her develop into a stable and confident dog. Having lived in a household, Lili understands many of the rules and expectations of a home. Sweet Clarice was found hungry, hurt, and alone in a busy metropolitan area. Recognizing that she needed help and fast, her finder contacted the local shelter and had her moved inside. Shelter staff immediately fell in love with this girl. She was friendly and affectionate even though she was clearly in pain. While she waited for a family to come and claim her, medical support began in order to help Clarice move forward. Unfortunately, when no one came, Clarice found herself on the euthanasia list. Shelters everywhere are experiencing overwhelming numbers which has increased euthanasia rates across the country. Knowing that Clarice deserved a loving family that would treasure her for a lifetime, shelter staff put out a plea for help. MAGSR heard that Clarice was out of options and stepped forward to help this special girl.

Clarice is beautiful, playful, and affectionate. Having clearly been well socialized with people of all ages as well as other dogs, it is obvious that someone along her journey provided her with opportunities to develop into a stable adult dog. Although we do not know much about her past life, we do know that Clarice does understand some of the ins and outs of living in a household. However, as is true of any new dog, Clarice will benefit from structure, routine, and leadership. This will help her adjust to the rules and routines of the household. Lovely little Ellen was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Although it was clear that this girl was socialized with people, no one came to claim her. Recognizing that shepherds are most successful when placed through a breed specific rescue, the shelter sent out a rescue plea with the hopes that the little lady would find placement. When MAGSR heard that Ellen needed a soft place to land, our team began putting plans in place to help her move forward.

Ellen is a friendly and affectionate girl. It is obvious that she was well socialized with new people. She approaches with tail wags and kisses. Clearly accustomed to toys, Ellen is a fan of the ball but is still working on returning it to her handler. Although playful and interactive, it is clear that Ellen has not had a lot of training. She knows sit and seems to know down. However, she is still learning many of the basics. Training will go a long way with this girl. Not only will training help her develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult shepherd. As is true of all shepherds, Ellen will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Clear expectations and opportunities to meet with success will help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. As Ellen is in many ways still a pup, it is important that her family exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. Lovely Miss Annabelle was adopted out as a puppy. Her family adored her and did everything they could to help her meet with success. As a result, they made the difficult decision to surrender her back to the MAGSR family. We promised Annabelle's family that we would find her an incredible forever family.

Annabelle is a stunning girl. Her eye-catching colors and look easily attract people to her. Having been socialized both inside and outside of the house, Annabelle does well when meeting new people.
