Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 8 years 2 months
Color: Black
Current Size: 60 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 60 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Partially
Altered: No

Good With Kids: No
Good With Cats: No
Other Dogs OK: No
DESCRIPTION:

Miss Jackie and her housemate, Mr. Jack, were used for puppies. Their lives have been filled with little care, comfort, or kindness. When their owner decided that it was time for them to move on, their future options were very limited. Fortunately, another rescue heard about their situation and reached out to MAGSR for help.

Although we knew that both would need some additional love and attention, we also knew they deserved kindness and compassion. Miss Jackie is friendly, interactive, and goofy with her people. She seeks out attention from everyone around and is a bit of a social butterfly. Although Miss Jackie is wonderful with her people, she is not a huge fan of other furry creatures. With a high prey drive, Jackie likely needed this to survive the first 5 years of her life. As a result, she is looking for a home where she can be the sole focus of the family. Miss Jackie has done very well in her previous foster home. She is crate trained and house broken. However, once properly adjusted, she is able to move about freely in the house without causing issues when alone. Having lived in a household, Miss Jackie does understand the rules of living in a home; however, she will need to adjust to the general routine and structure of her forever home. An intelligent girl, Jackie has had some training and knows many of her basic commands. Further training is always positive as this will help Jackie exercise her mind as well as develop a healthy bond with her forever family.

Miss Jackie is a lovely lady who is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the leadership, safety, and love that she so clearly deserves. Could this be with you?

Updates:

Miss Jackie is a very sweet girl. She seems to love all humans and loves attention. She is a laid back, easy going dog. She loves going for long walks. She likes playing with certain toys. She is housebroken and crate trained. Miss Jackie prefers male dogs over females, she can be quite reactive to female dogs. She will get along with most male dogs, but when she wants her own space she'll react. I think it's safe to say Miss Jackie likes being the boss and if she had her choice she would like to be the only dog in the house.

Rosa Lea, Ruby Ann, and Benny Blu were dumped in a field in the south. Although this was witnessed, their owner could not be found. Alone and scared, the pups ran when rescuers came to get them. Knowing that these little ones would need help, rescuers waited them out and caught all three a few days later. Our team was thrilled to welcome all three to the rescue.

Ozzy

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 2 years 9 months
Color: Black
Current Size: 70 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 80 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: No
Good With Cats: Yes, with proper introduction
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Ozzy and his buddy, Saxom, were victims of a house fire. When their family lost their home, they realized that they could no longer provide their dogs with the care that they deserved. As a result, they surrendered the dogs to a shelter. Upon arrival, it was evident that Ozzy and Saxom lacked socialization. They had lived with a pack of dogs; however, it seems that they had limited exposure to new situations and new people. Shelter staff immediately began working with the boys to build trust and move them forward. However, they recognized that Ozzy and Saxom would likely not thrive in a shelter setting. As a result, they sent out a plea for rescue placement. When we learned about the boys, we put plans together to welcome both Ozzy and Saxom into the MAGSR family.

Ozzy is a timid yet affectionate guy. A little unsure with new people and new situations, Ozzy is looking for a patient household that will give him plenty of opportunities to socialize in a safe way with new people and new environments. Once given time to adjust, Ozzy is playful, affectionate, and a big leaner. He understands the joy of toys and particularly enjoys toys that squeak. Curious and affectionate, Ozzy is settling in with his foster family. As he moves forward, Ozzy will meet with success in a household that provides him with clear structure and routine. He thrives on leadership and confidence. Training is essential for Ozzy. Not only will it help him build a healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. Ozzy is looking for a patient forever family that has the time and energy to continue to move him forward. If this handsome guy sounds like the right match for you, ask to meet him today!

Updates:

Ozzy has adjusted well to his foster family and enjoys his daily routine. As a young guy, once comfortable, Ozzy has a lot of good energy that needs to be burned on a daily basis. A huge fan of a good, long walk, Ozzy loves to take in the world around him. He particularly loves to smell the flowers in the yards he passes. Still a little unsure with unknown people passing him, Ozzy is learning to come to a heel with his handler and walk calmly past other people in the neighborhood. He prefers to continue on his way without interaction from strangers. When not out and about learning about the world around him, Ozzy continues to enjoy daily playtime. Toys are endless entertainment and he doesn't need much help keeping himself occupied. Food based toys and activities have also become an exciting treat. At this time, Ozzy is housebroken and crate trained. He seems to understand the general expectations in the household. However, with any transition there is always the possibility of some accidents. Ozzy has also begun to pick up some basic commands, such as, sit, come, and crate. He will continue to develop basic skills with his foster family.

When in the shelter, Ozzy had an accident that resulted in some favoring of his back right leg. His foster family kept an eye on this and made sure that he got into a vet to be evaluated. When evaluated, concerns arose in regards to Ozzy's right elbow and his hips. Ozzy's right elbow has a united anconeal process (UAP). This is a disorder associated with the elbow that happens with a small bony projection, which is known as the anconeal process, does not unite and fuse with the ulna. As a critical aspect of the elbow joint, Ozzy does need surgical intervention to correct this disorder. He is on the schedule to meet with and be evaluated by a surgical specialist in late August. While at his appointment, a closer look at his hips will occur as his pelvis is moderately dysplastic with DJD remodeling on the right hip. Ozzy's surgery and associated rehab will be expensive. However, he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Ozzy's care. Your support will not only help us provide Ozzy with the medical care he needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs within the MAGSR family.

Although Ozzy has a few medical needs in play, he is continuing to look for the perfect forever family. If he sounds like the right guy for your household, ask to meet him today!

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Layla was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. She waited patiently for a family to come and claim her; however, no one stepped forward for this amazing girl. As shelters everywhere are at capacity, staff members began reaching out to rescues for help as they knew that Layla was very special and deserved every chance to find a forever family that would love her for a lifetime. When MAGSR heard the plea for Layla, our team immediately began making preparations to welcome her to the rescue.

Layla is a sweet and affectionate girl. With a goofy personality, it is impossible to avoid smiling when in her presence. She simply spreads joy wherever she goes. Clearly well-socialized, Layla enjoys the company of both human and furry companions. As she arrived at the shelter as a stray, we do not know much about her history or her knowledge of living in a home. However, we do know that someone clearly cared for her at some point and taught her the joy of playtime, snuggles, and some extra pets. Layla is looking for a household that will provide her with the structure, routine, stability, and leadership that all shepherds crave. She is looking forward to participating in training with her forever family. Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 2 years 6 months
Color: Black, Tan & White
Current Size: 40 lbs

Obedience Trained: No

History: Cobbler was returned at age 8 months. This is her original write-up: Lovely Cobbler, her mom - Sugar Pie - and her five siblings - Tort, Cake, Crumble, Pudding, and Sundae - were dumped in the south when the puppies were just hours old. Fortunately, the right people found them and immediately started networking to help this family move forward. With rescue support provided and a plan in place, the little family was moved into an experienced foster home so that they could receive the love and attention needed to survive. Although they struggled at first, with time, attention, and some extra love, the pups and their mom pulled through.  The dessert puppies are now ready to move forward into their forever families. These adorable little fluffy puppies have had the benefit of living with a loving home. Although they have been well socialized with people and other dogs, it is critical that their new families continue this process as it will help them develop into stable adults. The dessert puppies are absolute sweethearts; however, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy energy and antics. They get into things, whine, and will chew on inappropriate items. With time, training, and patience, Cobbler will develop into the good canine citizen we know she is destined to become. Cobbler is looking for a loving forever home that will commit to her for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely little Cobbler is one of Sugar Pie's puppies. Having been born into the rescue, we have had the unique opportunity to watch her grow. Adopted as a puppy, Cobbler's family adored her. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, they could no longer provide for her. Recognizing that Cobbler deserved a safe and loving forever family, they contacted MAGSR to make sure that Cobbler could move forward safely. We immediately welcomed this lovely little girl back into the MAGSR family at 9 months old and promised that we would find her the perfect forever home.

As a young, affectionate, and energetic girl, Cobbler is looking for an active family that will exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. She will happily come along for a long walk, run, or hike filling each adventure with puppy smiles and love. As a young dog, it is imperative that Cobbler's family continue to socialize her with new people and animals in controlled settings. This will help her develop into a stable and confident adult. Cobbler has had the luck of having lived in a loving home, as a result, she knows many of the ins and outs of household rules. However, she will need to adjust to the structure, routine, rules of her forever home. This will take time and patience as Cobbler learns expectations. Training will be very important for Cobbler as she moves forward. Not only will it help her develop a health bond with her family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. Cobbler can't wait to settle into her forever home. Could that be with you?

Good With Kids: Older kids, over 16
Good With Cats: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

Joyful Cooper has been moved about a few times in his young life. However, he was lucky that the right people stepped in and recognized that a young, social guy like him would thrive in a household that had the time and energy to work with him. So, they brought Cooper to a local shelter where staff members fell in love with this interactive guy. Although Cooper easily won over the hearts of the shelter team, they recognized that he would be most successful if he found placement through a rescue. When we heard about Cooper's need for placement, we immediately welcomed him to the MAGSR family.

Cooper is an interactive and social boy. He clearly has had the opportunity to interact with others throughout his puppyhood. Although Cooper definitely has a great start, continued socialization is imperative to his success as an adult. Typical of most young GSDs, Cooper has a lot of energy. It will be essential that Cooper's family exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. This will help him maintain a stable and confident mindset. Although Cooper is still very young, he has already begun to learn some basic commands. His intelligence, willingness to please, and his food motivation makes him a great student. Cooper will excel in training class. Training will not only help Cooper develop a strong and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen that we know that he is destined to be. Cooper is looking for a loving and active household who will love him for a lifetime. Could this be with you?

Updates:

Cooper has been with us for a little over a week, and he is already running with ur pack of two GSDs, Nala and Vader.  He clearly looks up to Vader, and he desperately wants to win over Nala (who is not as friendly as Vader!).  He hasd had no issues socializing with Nala and Vader, and he would play with Vader 24/7 if Vader would relent and do so.  He has boundless energy, but he is, thankfully, good at entertaining himself.  He enjoys chewing all shapes, sizes, and types of bones and tugging on the tuffy toy rings.  He is starved for love and comes by regularly for pets and snuggles when we are sitting on the couch.

Cooper came to us after a few weeks of formal training, and he knows and understands his commands.  Temptation sometimes get the best of him, but he gets back in line easily when he is corrected. He is housebroken and can tell you when he needs to go out (he paces in a circle or scratches the door), and he sleeps in our mudroom at night (gated in) with no barking or other issues.  He walks fairly well on the leash.  He is occasionally reactive to another dog, but it is clearly fear rather than aggression. He is a voracious eater, which is good news because he needs to gain some weight!

The original description uses the best word we can think of for Cooper – he is joyful.  Despite his rough start in life, he is a happy, easygoing, loving, playful dog. Any family would be lucky to have Cooper.

Beta

ADOPTED 09/26/2022!

Beta
BetaBetaAlpha & Beta
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 3 years 2 weeks
Color: Black & Cream
Current Size: 45 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 50 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Alpha and Beta appeared outside the home of an experienced GSD family. Recognizing the boys needed a safe place to stay while their family was located, this family brought the boys in and began making calls to local vets, shelters, and lost dog groups. Although word quickly spread that Alpha and Beta had been found and were safe, no one came to bring the boys home. When their stray hold ended, this family began working with local rescues to move the boys forward so that they could be safely placed in a loving forever home. As a member of the rescue network contacted to support Alpha and Beta, MAGSR was happy to step forward and help the boys move into the rescue family.

Beta is in many ways your typical young, energetic, and inquisitive guy. However, it appears that Beta lacks experience with new people and experiences, as a result, he can be timid and a little jumpy at first. When given time to adjust, Beta is affectionate and playful. He enjoys giving hugs and kisses, but he will need to learn that this is not always appropriate. As is true of all young dogs, Beta will be most successful if placed in a home with clear structure, routine, and leadership. Continued socialization is essential as Beta will need to learn how to navigate new environments and new people confidently. Training will help Beta as he continues to develop the stability and confidence needed to become a good canine citizen. If you are looking for a sweet, deserving guy, who will keep you entertained with teenage antics, ask to meet Beta today!

Erica

ADOPTED 09/18/2022!

Erica

Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 8 years 2 months
Color: Black & Cream
Current Size: 95 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: No
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Erica was picked up in the south and brought to a local shelter. Shelter staff immediately fell in love with this delightful girl and started pleading for a rescue placement. Fortunately, we were able to step forward and welcome this lovely girl into the MAGSR family.

Erica is the definition of gentle giant. She is easy to walk on leash and friendly with everyone she meets. Erica rides well in the car but is still learning the best way to get up into larger vehicles. We are still getting to know this big, beautiful girl and will post updates soon. If Erica sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Erica has been with us in her foster home for a few days now, and is still settling in. We've learned a few things about her in this short time. She is definitely a "low-key" kinda gal, well-suited for a quiet, less active home. We believe she is part (or whole) Anatolian shepherd, and shows many of the characteristics of this breed. She bonds quickly to her care-giver (that's me!) but does not exhibit separation-anxiety at all; she has been left alone for several hours by herself without problems. She is happy to greet me at the door when I return, but then just retreats to her "spot"  to watch me.

Erica has obviously lived in a home, as she is completely housebroken and waits at the door to tell you she needs outside. She was reported to being accepting of a crate, but that has not been my experience with her - she registered her displeasure at being crated, and has been just fine, uncrated, in my home. She is not destructive at all and stays off the furniture (a rule in my household). Erica is a big girl, but at 90+ lbs she is not overweight for her breeding - she has a visible "waist" when viewed from above. She eats whatever is in her dog bowl, has adjusted to feed changes just fine, and takes treats very gently. Erica walks well on leash and follows my lead. She knows very few commands but is easy to handle.

Erica is looking for her perfect home, one without small animals, and with folks who will love her and care for her for the rest of her life. If your household seeks a "gentle giant" companion dog, please ask to meet Erica.

,

Erica truly is a gentle giant but she has some pep in her, don't let her plodding walk fool you! She most definitely has the character traits of an Anatolian with some GSD/Mastiff thrown in plus or minus some. Independence, thy name is Erica.  She needs time to warm up and feel comfortable - After a little over a week we actually got play bows, mini zoomies, and back wiggles with feet dancing. She actually loves walks and hikes (but I don't see her as a jogging partner). She is fine with people, shopping carts and cars and she rides well in the car.  Erica is good with other dogs, however it takes some time to warm up and once she gets a chance to see and smell other dogs, she is happy for them to go on walks with her. She walks well on a leash -- not at a heel, just not pulling. If anything she needs a few gentle tugs to get a move on when there is an interesting smell distraction.  She does not counter surf; however, anything lower than a standard table (basically, lower than her head) is up for grabs if left unattended.  Erica loves people including children.   She absolutely LOVES getting her ears and neck scratched. Her favorite way of greeting people she knows is to put her head between your legs to be sure you can reach those special spots. If you sit on the floor she will make sure you have access to her head. She does not get up on furniture (except a very well placed bench that allows for a good view outside) but she did realize what dog beds were after a bit of persuasion.  While she is somewhat food motivated she does not know any obedience skills and anyone who wants to do training will need to take it very slow and patiently. If you are looking for a gentle soul to share your home, keep you company on walks, and be there for petting when a fur fix is needed, Erica is the pup for you.

,

Erica was adopted a year and a half ago from MAGSR. She was adored by her family and brought every member of the household endless joy. Unfortunately, a circumstance beyond their control arose which resulted in the need to return Erica to MAGSR. Although this was a very difficult decision, Erica's family knew that we would make sure she found an amazing family that would shower her with a lifetime of love and affection.

Understandably, Erica is a little confused by the recent changes in her life. We are giving her the chance to decompress and settle back into the rescue. Although she is a little unsure right now, Erica has maintained her sweet personality.  Erica is looking for a forever family that will make sure she continues to get daily walks and exercise. This will help her stay active and healthy. She would love a family that also enjoys some daily snuggles. Children in the home would be an added bonus as she simply adores them. As is true of all dogs, Erica is looking for a family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and consistency needed to feel "at home." If your household is looking for a loving lady with a gentle presence, ask to meet Erica today.

The Hunger Games puppies - Peeta, Katniss, Thresh, Rue, Gale, and Finnick - were an accidental litter in the south. Although they were well-cared for as babies, as they grew, they became too much for their family. Recognizing that they were unable to provide a large number of babies with what they needed, their family surrendered them to a shelter. Unfortunately, with the overwhelming number of dogs needing placements in shelters right now, owner surrenders are the first dogs to be euthanized. The minute these babies entered the building they were in danger. Trying to do everything they could to keep this group alive, shelter staff began pleading for rescue help. When we heard about their plight, our team knew we needed to welcome the Hunger Games family to MAGSR.

Peeta is a confident and intelligent guy. As an active young pup, Peeta is looking for a family that can give him the time, attention, and training that will help him meet with success. Still a very young dog, it is essential that Peeta continue to socialize regularly. This will help him develop a stable personality. Although Peeta is a stunning guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics. Sweet Angus was picked up as a stray and brought to animal control. Upon arrival it was clear that Angus had some medical needs that would require quick attention. Missing hair over a large portion of his body with open sores, it was obvious to shelter staff that Angus had likely been in some pain for a while. We immediately welcomed Angus to the MAGSR family.

Although Angus is in rough shape, he has the sweetest soul. A lover of everyone and everything, Angus enjoys spending time with kids, adults, and other dogs. He is even good with cats. Unfortunately, we do not know much about his past; however, it is clear that someone helped him develop into a social guy. His lovely personality shines through even with all the pain he must be in. Our team is already putting things in place to help lessen Angus' pain and get him the care he needs. He is lucky to have been placed with a loving foster family who will continue to help Angus move forward. As is true of all GSDs Angus will be most successful in a household with clear structure, routine, and leadership. These are essential qualities of a GSD home. He will also benefit from training as this will help Angus develop into a good canine citizen. Angus is looking for a loving forever home that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Adorable Albus is one of 11 puppies and a mama that were part of a cruelty case within Maryland. Upon arrival, this sweet litter of pups quickly won over all the staff within the shelter; however,  they knew this family needed to move into the safety of a rescue immediately so they could move forward and find loving forever families.  When asked if we could help this litter of 11 babies and mama, team MAGSR stepped up and welcomed the Hogwarts family to the rescue.

Fortunately, our Hogwarts puppies have a good start already as they are sweet and friendly pups who happily soak up all of the love and attention they can find. Living with amazing foster families, each of the Hogwarts puppies is starting to learn all of the important things they will need to know in order to develop into stable and confident adult dogs. Although puppies bring endless joy to everyone they encounter, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, structure, and routine, they will develop into incredible dogs. If these babies sound like the right match for your household, ask to meet one of them today!

Updates:

Albus is a handsome pup in search of his forever home! He is going to be a big dog.  As a puppy he needs basic obedience and continued work for potty training, crate training and leash training.  He is very inquisitive and enjoys exploring and checking out everyone and everything!  He loves his Nylabones, stuffless stuffies, rope toys, treat filled kongs and snuffle mats! He really enjoys the company of other people and dogs.  I’m sure he would love a doggie sibling to play with!  He gets along well with his older foster sisters. Albus is currently working on potty training, crate training, sitting, and house manners. Albus loves to talk and makes noises often- ranging from little grunts and squeaks to barking. Therefore he would not be a great candidate for close quarter living.

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Mona Mi was picked up as a stray in a busy city and brought to the local animal shelter. Upon entering the shelter, it was clear that this little girl was in need of significant medical support. Emaciated, missing a significant amount of her fur, covered in scabs, and clearly in pain, Mona Mi needed help and quickly. Although shelter staff began putting care in place, they knew Mona Mi needed to be transferred to a rescue who could get this little girl the care she needed with a private vet. When asked if we could help Mona Mi move forward, we immediately welcomed her into the MAGSR family.

Having joined the MAGSR family, Mona Mi was moved to one of our vets in order to help her begin the healing process. It was determined that she had contracted demodex mange which had developed into a secondary skin infection. With a good exam, antibiotics, medicated baths, and fantastic vetting care, Mona Mi has made significant strides. She is feeling much more like a pup and ready to learn about the world. Although a little hesitant at first, when given a little time to adjust to new people and situations, Mona Mi is a ball of fun. She is full of life and ready to move forward. As is true of all young shepherds, Mona Mi craves structure, routine, and leadership. She has a lot to learn but is eager to start. It is critical that Mona Mi's forever family get her into training. Training is important as it will not only help her develop a strong, healthy bond with her family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult. Mona Mi is ready for her forever family. Could that be you?

Recognizing that Aspen needed a soft place to land, she was returned to the MAGSR family with hopes that a loving family would welcome her into their home for her golden years.

Aspen is a love. Her family set her up for success by making sure she was well socialized, learned manners, and every opportunity to shine. They doted on her and she repaid them with unwavering loyalty and love. Aspen loves people of all ages. She is also a fan of large male dogs. In fact, she has been participating in doggy day care for years and has a blast with her buddies there. Having lived in a wonderful home for many years, Aspen understands the ins and outs of living in a household. However, as is true of any dog, she will need time to adjust to the new routine of her adoptive home. As a senior pup, Aspen definitely enjoys her walks and daily playtime, but she also enjoys a good nap and some quiet time as well. She is at an age where she has a nice balance of energy. Although Aspen has completed basic training, she looks forward to continuing to train with her new family. DESCRIPTION:

Kingston was surrendered to a shelter by his owner who outwardly admitted that he was being abused in their home. Having survived a couple years of mistreatment, Kingston was, understandably, frightened and unsure. Although fearful and avoidant with men due to the abuse suffered at the hands of a man, Kingston was more accepting of and comfortable with female staff members at the shelter. However, it was very apparent to shelter staff that Kingston would be most successful if given the opportunity to move forward with a rescue that could provide him with the time, patience, and leadership needed to move beyond his abuse. Recognizing that Kingston deserved so much more than the life that he had escaped, several rescuers came together to network Kingston and help him move forward. MAGSR was honored to be part of the team that changed Kingston's life for the better.

Kingston is a survivor. He has endured pain and suffering without the voice to ask for help. The scars left by his previous owner are not very visible on the outside, but they have left him unsure and anxious with new people and situations. As a result, Kingston has needed time to decompress and develop trust in an experienced foster home. Handshy and head shy, Kingston's foster family has been slowly teaching him that people can be kind, gentle, and a source of love. He has been learning that a leash is not a tool for pain, a collar will not hurt, and that head scratches are truly amazing. This is a slow process, but every day, Kingston's foster family sees a little more of the goofy, playful, and affectionate boy that has been hidden by the trauma of his previous life. Daily opportunities to work with his foster family and adjust to living in a safe home are important for Kingston. He has adjusted well to being handled by his foster mom and is learning to trust his foster dad. Kingston's relationships with men will require some additional support as he continues to progress. With time, training, desensitization, and a chance to be a dog, Kingston is making important strides needed to move forward with a loving family of his own.

In addition to the physical abuse that Kingston endured, it is apparent that he was also neglected. Upon arrival, it was very clear that Kingston had medical needs that required immediate intervention. Struggling to defecate without shaking and screaming in pain, extremely uncomfortable with swollen and infected anal glands, itchy from a food allergy, in pain from frostbitten ears, positive for heartworms, and lacking energy due to a severe case of pneumonia, Kingston has needed significant medical support. Fortunately, one of our amazing vetting partners has worked with us to provide Kingston with everything he needs. Antibiotics have begun, pain meds have been administered, x-rays have been taken, and next steps are in place to ensure that Kingston's needs are met. Additional care will be needed over the next month or two to ensure that Kingston is healed and healthy. Kingston's medical needs are expensive but he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to his care as your donation will not only help us help Kingston move forward, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs into the MAGSR family.

Although Kingston is not yet ready to find his forever family, we know that when he is ready for his next step, a safe, loving, experienced and supportive family will be waiting for him. Kingston Could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Willow was abandoned by her family along with another dog. When it was discovered that the dogs were left on the property, they were brought to a local animal shelter for their safety. Although Willow waited patiently for a family that would commit to her for a lifetime, no one came forward. As shelter staff wanted to ensure that Willow found a safe and loving forever home, they began reaching out to breed specific rescues that would have the ability to move Willow forward. When asked if we could help Willow, MAGSR immediately welcomed her to the family.

Willow is an interactive and intelligent girl. As she has been abandoned and moved around a few times, it does take her a few minutes to adjust to new people. However, given a little time and some tasty treats, she warms up quickly. As Willow moves forward, consistency, routine, and leadership will help her thrive. She is looking for a patient and active household. Although Willow has lived with other dogs previously, she would likely be best as the only dog in the home. Willow, like all dogs, will benefit from training. Not only will training help Willow develop a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. If this energetic lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Over the last month, Willow has made some excellent progress. She has settled nicely into the MAGSR family and has been a regular participant at events. As Willow has been working with a variety of handlers and getting out to play on a daily basis, she has gotten in shape and is ready for her summer wardrobe. Willow's sweet and well-balanced personality makes her an excellent candidate for many households. Equally happy to go out and about on a long walk or simply lounge around under a nice shady tree, this girl loves the outdoors and hopes her forever family does too. Treat and toy motivated, Willow is already learning basic commands. She has developed a good understanding of sit, down, and leave it with more commands on their way. When finished working she loves a little time to play with toys particularly the fun-filled ones that squeak. Willow is waiting patiently for her forever family but hopes they come for her soon. Could that family be you?

,
Willow has settled into her foster home nicely. She is housebroken and loves to sleep in her crate. She goes in by herself or when asked. She’s very sweet and very affectionate.

Willow loves interactions with humans but is somewhat aloof regarding dogs. She is a bit hesitant when approached by or approaching unknown dogs. She prefers a cautious approach and this can sometimes take several meetings. Jumpy or anxious dog make her nervous and she prefers not to interact with them. For the most part most dogs can sense Willow’s Alpha vibe and will bark at her even if she’s doing nothing but walking down the street. Recommend that she be an only dog, or with a non-dominant male companion dog of similar size (with proper introduction).

Willow is thriving with two 30 minute walks each day. Play time and training time. She’s learning touch and currently understands: sit, down, paw/shake, go find (finding food items that have been hidden by searching for them with her nose), hide and seek (finding humans in the house), go to the crate, go to your bed (she goes to her dog bed). She’s not much of a barker but will protect the house if she hears a strange noise. She’s very good in the car and loves to go out for car rides.
Willow has a very high prey drive (or hunting instinct), therefore, during walks she is mostly engaged in searching for small critters such as squirrels, rabbits, etc. It is not recommended that there be small pets such as rabbits, ferrets, or dogs smaller than herself in the house. Willow tends to bolt when she sees squirrels and other small animals, therefore, it is not recommended that small children walk her due to her size and weight she can get loose and run off. We’re working on leash manners as she tends to be a heavy puller and requires a shorter lead to keep the pulling in check. We’re also working on getting her to pay more attention to the handler rather than to the critters and other distractions she encounters.

She has a few fears that we’re working on: afraid of vacuum cleaners (she’s made a large improvement in the time she’s been here), afraid of hair dryers, and thunder/lightning (slightly)

Willow is very smart, learns fast, is very willing to please and will test boundaries to see what she can get away with. Proper training and correction are advised. Considering all things mentioned she is a sweet girl with a great disposition, she’s past puppy antics and mature. She’s happy playing, working, walking or just hanging around and not needy or whiny and can entertain herself with her toys. She’s also a perfect size for a smaller home or limited living spaces. Most people we meet on our walks think she’s a puppy and are surprised to hear she’s four years old and won’t get any bigger.
,

Willow is progressing nicely. We have continued our twice daily walks modifying the times to avoid the excess heat. I’m pleased to report that we are at the five week mark and leash pulling has diminished considerably. We now have a considerably loose leash and a much more pleasant walk. In addition, our ‘critter progress’ has improved as well. Reactivity has lessened considerably.  At this point, the critter will grab her attention but she will continue walking and will not try to chase. I would say on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most intense reaction, Willow is currently at a 4-5 (where she was probably at an 8 or 9 one month ago).

We’re still working on vacuum cleaner fear. She is now able to be in the next room (watching) while the vacuum is going and I have been able to get her to touch the vacuum while it’s off.

Inside the house Willow is very obedient complying with whatever she’s told to do. Outside it’s a little more difficult because of all the distractions but she does well considering. She is also respectful of boundaries and does not go into areas where she knows she is not allowed to go.

The relaxed environment, good food, and increased exercise have done her well. She now sports a beautiful shiny coat, her eyes are sparkly, and she has a much more relaxed demeanor. She has a lovely disposition and makes me laugh every day. She's going to make a fantastic family member for some lucky family. Think Willow might be the right fit for your home?  Apply to adopt today!

Finnick is an inquisitive and interactive boy. He already has a good idea of what toys are and how they can keep him well entertained. As an active young pup, Finnick is looking for a family that can give him the time, attention, and training that will help him meet with success. Still a very young dog, it is essential that Finnick continue to socialize regularly. This will help him develop a stable and confident personality. Although Finnick is an absolute honey, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics.

Hermione is a spunky baby who is full of smiles and loves human attention. Belly rubs are a favorite activity of hers and should, in her mind, be provided on a daily basis. Like her brothers and sisters, she is working on socialization and house manners.

Rue is a little love bug who quickly wins over the hearts of everyone around her. She is playful, inquisitive, and a good snuggler. As an active young pup, Rue is looking for a family that can give her the time, attention, and training that will help her meet with success. Still a very young dog, it is essential that Rue continue to socialize regularly. This will help her develop a stable and confident personality. Although Rue is an absolute doll, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics. Marvelous Maverick was surrendered by his family to a shelter in the south. They stated that although they loved Maverick dearly, due to a significant change in circumstances, they could no longer care for him. Shelter staff recognized that Maverick was special right away, his charismatic personality easily won everyone over. However, due to what looked like a gunshot wound to his foot, they felt that Maverick would be most successful if placed with a rescue. When MAGSR learned about Maverick's story, we stepped forward and welcomed him to the family.

Since joining MAGSR, we have addressed Maverick's medical needs. He has made great strides and is now acting and moving the way a GSD should. Maverick is a happy and gregarious guy. His previous family provided him with a solid foundation as he has clearly been well socialized with dogs and people. As a young guy, it is important that Maverick continues to be socialized in appropriate settings so that he maintains his current skills. It is also essential that Maverick exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. Training will help with this piece. Not only will training help Maverick move forward and develop a healthy bond with his new family, but it will also help him develop into a stable and confident adult. Maverick is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, leadership, and routine that all GSDs crave. If he sounds like the right pup for your family, please ask to meet Maverick today.

DESCRIPTION:

Little Miss Skeeter was picked up as a stray and brought to a shelter a few months ago. Due to a wound of unknown origin Skeeter was placed in quarantine for a few months at the shelter. Although this can be very difficult for many dogs, Skeeter handled her quarantine very well and remained friendly and interactive. She was a staff favorite. Once released from quarantine, shelter staff decided that Skeeter would be most successful if she was placed with a rescue. This would give her the best chance at finding the perfect forever family. When asked if we could help Skeeter move forward, MAGSR immediately welcomed her to the rescue.

Skeeter is a friendly, interactive and energetic girl. As a young dog, she still has all the puppy antics that would be expected at her age. She is looking for an active household that will help her exercise both her mind and body on a daily basis. Skeeter is a social girl. However, it is critical that her family continue to provide her with socialization. This will help her develop into a stable adult. As Skeeter had been in quarantine for a few months, she did not have the opportunity to develop her leash skills. However, now that she has joined the rescue, our volunteers have begun to develop these skills. As is true of all dogs, Skeeter will benefit greatly from training. Training will not only help Skeeter build a healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. Skeeter is looking for a forever family that will love her for a lifetime. Could that family be you?

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Luna was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Although shelter staff hoped that a family would come to claim Luna, no one came for her. Recognizing that a GSD is often most successful if placed through a breed specific rescue, shelter staff worked with MAGSR to help move Luna forward. We are so excited to have welcomed Luna to the MAGSR family.

Luna is a sweet, young, and intelligent GSD. Typical of most GSDs, she can be somewhat aloof at first. However, given a little time and some tasty treats, Luna begins to show her playful side. She is affectionate and interactive once comfortable. Gentle with her play, Luna does seem to understand the concept of toys and is happy to play on her own. Although we do not know anything about her past, we do know that someone worked with Luna. She knows a few commands, such as sit and paw, and will gently take treats from the handler. However, she will need to continue to build leash manners as it appears that she has had limited opportunities on leash. As a young dog, Luna is looking for a household that will provide her with the structure, routine and leadership that will help her meet with success. Training is essential for Luna. Not only will this help her develop a healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her build the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. Luna is a sweetheart who is looking for an active and loving forever family. Could that be with you?

Updates:

Luna is doing great in her foster home. She crates well and is quiet in the crate. There have been no accidents, so she is housebroken. She did very well on the leash when we went walking. She just needs some consistent walking and she'll be a pro in no time.  She has a lot of energy and is very loving and playful. When my husband came home from work and walked into the back yard, Luna went running to him like she's known him all her life and wanted to get lots of head and belly rubs from him.

,

Luna has recovered nicely from her spay and is now off of restricted activity. She is a bundle of puppy energy and loves to play ball. She has met most of my family as they come over, all adults, and wins over the hearts of everyone she meets. Luna has met her foster brother and sister and is getting along well with them when they play outside. Inside, they like to rough house so their time together is limited. My end tables can only take so much German Shepherd collisions before whatever is on them topples to the floor.     Having a 4yr old, an almost 2yr old and a 10 month old  makes for an active house. Literally put them away for "naps" yesterday so "mommy" could have some alone time in the pool. Anyway, Luna is a complete joy and is super smart, curious and likes to chase rabbits and squirrels. She barks at the vacuum and handled the neighborhood fireworks with ease. Her recall is pretty good. We are still working on leash manners and will spend more time doing it now that she is free from restrictive activity. Luna is going to be a fabulous dog and her future family will be very lucky to have her.

Handsome Keith was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Staff members immediately noticed that Keith was a happy and friendly guy who enjoyed every ounce of attention he could get. Although they waited for his family to come and claim him, no one stepped forward for Keith. Recognizing that this guy would be best placed through a breed specific rescue, he was transferred to the MAGSR family. We promised shelter staff that we would find Keith the perfect forever family.

Keith is an active and social guy.  Definitely treat motivated, Keith is often an absolute goofball when food is involved. This motivation will be very helpful when it comes to training. Lacking much experience with a leash, Keith is still learning how to walk without pulling. However, he is a smart guy and seems to be picking up new skills quickly. As is true of all shepherds, Keith will thrive in an environment that is structured and has clear routines. He craves leadership and is responsive to a calm and confident handler. Good with other dogs, Keith enjoys the company of other dogs and simply wants to play. As Keith moves forward, it is vital that his forever family continues to social him in a controlled environment with other people and animals. This will help him maintain his skills. It is also imperative that Keith's family enroll him in training. Training is very important as it will not only help Keith establish a healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. DESCRIPTION:

Tazz is a sweet and handsome guy. He and his brother Julio found themselves dumped in a Southern shelter for eating one of the free range chickens on their farm. It’s really no wonder these young boys turned to hunting for their own food as they came in skin and bones and desperate for a good meal.  The positive for these boys is that with consistent food at the shelter they have already started to gain some much needed weight.

Although Tazz and Julio are littermates, they are not bonded and we have found they do better apart. We have found that Tazz is a bit more laid back of the two brothers but both boys are sweet natured and extremely friendly. Both were excellent travels on their several day journey to MAGSR and were reported to be easy to load in and out of their crate and friendly to all they met on the road trip.

Tazz is a friendly, playful, and intelligent guy but don’t let any young GSD fool you as they all will push to see what they can get away with when being handled. He has your typical GSD shenanigans going on. As a young dog, Tazz will thrive with structure, clear routines, and leadership. He is beginning to learn basic manners and how to walk on leash without pulling. However, Tazz, like all dogs, will need training. Training will not only help him bond to his forever family but it will also help him develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. Tazz is looking for a family that enjoys an interactive dog, playtime, and lots, we mean lots, of belly rubs. If this boy sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet Tazz today.

Lovely Panzer was welcomed into her family a few years ago when they heard that she would be dropped at a shelter if they didn't welcome her in. Recognizing that Panzer was a special girl, she joined the family and never looked back. Although they loved Panzer and made sure that she had everything they needed, her family recognized that they could not provide her with the time and attention that she deserved. As a result, they made the difficult decision to rehome Panzer. When asked if we could help Panzer find an active household that could meet her needs, we were happy to welcome her to the MAGSR family.

Panzer is in many ways your typical shepherd. She is active, interactive, and bouncy with her people. Thriving on attention and interaction, Panzer loves to be doted upon. Cuddly and affectionate, once comfortable, Panzer would be happy to spend quality time as a lap dog after a day of play. She doesn't quite realize that she is a full-grown shepherd. Although Panzer lived with a dog in her previous household for a few years, she has not had many interactions with other dogs. As a result, we are still learning about her doggy socialization skills. Already knowing a few commands, such as sit and stay, Panzer will be a delight in training class. Not only will training help Panzer bond to her new family but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. Training helps to focus the mind and develop confidence. Panzer will benefit from both. Having lived in a home, Panzer understands the joys of a soft bed, good food, endless belly rubs, and plenty of toys. Squeaky toys are her favorite and she is hoping her new family loves these toys as much as she does. Panzer is looking for a forever family that has time for an active girl, could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Scream was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Although he waited patiently for his family to come and claim him, no one stepped forward. This was surprising as staff members could tell this boy was well socialized with people and had clearly been loved. Recognizing that living in a shelter environment is difficult for the breed, staff members began working to move Scream into a breed specific rescue. When we saw that Scream needed support to move forward, MAGSR stepped in and welcome this sweet guy to the family.

Scream is a big, beautiful, and sometimes talkative guy. Having clearly been socialized with people, he seems to understand that people are treats, love and attention. Scream is delighted to hang out with his people and loves attention and petting. It appears that Scream has also been introduced to toys. He enjoys a good game of fetch and does know to drop the ball when asked. Although he enjoys many toys, Scream seems most excited with a ball. He is hoping his forever family has a strong throwing arm. Playful but gentle, Scream has definitely learned some manners when it comes to toys and treats. As he moves forward, Scream will benefit from a household that will provide him with the structure, routine and leadership that all GSDs crave. Although he seems to already have a good start with manners, it is essential that Scream attends training with his forever family. Not only will this help him create a safe and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him further develop the skills needed to become a stable and confident adult. If your family is looking for a very smart, friendly, and interactive guy, ask to meet Scream today!

Updates:

Scream is starting to settle into a life out of the kennel. His favorite things are cuddles, hot dogs, walks and fetch! He is friendly to everyone he meets, and particularly enjoys his feline foster brothers. He needs a little time to warm up to canine counterparts but definitely wants to play when he decides they aren't a threat. Scream is learning leash manners and how to respect boundaries like doorways and stairs. He bonds to his people very quickly and rather strongly, preferring to be the perfect velcro dog with a practiced shepherd lean. What he really needs is a family he can call his own to love him and show him the finer things in life!
