Sophie and her housemate Bonnie were surrendered to a local shelter when the neighbors started complaining. Although both girls lived in the same household, they are not bonded.

Sophie is a sweet and affectionate dog. She enjoys the company of her people and wants to be with them. Social and interactive, Sophie is looking for a family that will give her the care and attention this lovely lady deserves. Although Sophie enjoys companionship, she can entertain herself. Sophie loves to play with a play and can toss it without help. Sophie has lived in a household with kids and dogs. However, she was injured by a dog within the last year so proper introductions are necessary. If Sophie sounds like the right match for your household, please consider adopting her today.

A good samaritan found Noah as a stray and brought him to animal control. Unfortunately, no one came looking for Noah. With a stroke of luck another rescue found Noah and helped him find his way to MAGSR. We are so excited to have welcomed this boy into the MAGSR family.

Noah is a young, energetic guy. He can be nervous when placed in new situations and needs a little time to adjust. When given patience and structure, Noah warms up and enjoys being loved-on by his human companions. Noah enjoys the company of other dogs and absolutely loves to play. He is currently learning all of the ins and outs of living in a household, such as housebreaking and crate training, and doing a great job! Noah is looking for a home that will commit to him forever. If Noah sounds like a match for your household, please ask to meet him today.

Updates:

He's doing great with me. Noah has been doing obedience training with me and loves to play with my husky. He does fine in the crate but take a little time to relax before laying down and napping. Noah thinks couches are the best thing ever and loves to cuddle. He is very social and happy, all he wants in life is love and food. When Noah wags his tail his entire body moves with significant force. He's been eating his meals a little to fast so his new family may need to get a special bowl so he slows down. He loves squeaker toys and hard chew toys, he will chew on a few things if you don't watch him. My slippers fell prey to his desire to chew, but he dropped them quickly when told. Overall, he's an absolute sweetheart just needs a family to love him and teach him how to behave.

Claude
Claude chillin'Claude pays tug with his foster brotherClaude the art critic
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 1 year 6 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 71 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Yes
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Claude's previous owners decided that they no longer wanted a dog in the house so they put him outside. Unfortunately, some of the neighbors were not happy about having a dog living outside in the neighborhood, as a result, they threatened to shoot Claude. Luckily, a good samaritan heard about Claude and raced to get him out of this situation before it was too late.

When asked if we could help Claude find a forever home that would provide the love and safety he deserved, MAGSR stepped up. Everyone that meets Claude seems to fall in love with his friendly mannerisms. He is housebroken and is working on crate training. Living with both a cat and an energetic dog, Claude has been introduced to the resident cat and showed interest but nothing concerning. He loves playing with his foster brother. The two of them have quickly become buddies. Claude will thrive in a home where he is able to benefit from attention, good exercise, and of course a lot of cuddles.

If Claude sounds like the right match for your home, please ask to meet him today.

Updates:

Claude is house broken and does well with dogs of all sizes.  He is a big lover and will sit on your lap and demand to be petted, and if you stop, will remind you to keep going.  He has been introduced to his foster's cat on and off leash and while he did show interest in her he never snapped or hurt her.  He is good on walks but afraid of loud noises but comes to his person for protection.  He is very interested in squirrels and bunnies but is easily corrected when needed.  He is currently in a house with another big playful dog and does well, however, he could do well in a house without another dog with lots of attention.

DESCRIPTION:

Miles is a shepherd lab mix who was brought to MAGSR from a local shelter. While living in his foster home, it has been discovered that this 13 month old is full of puppy energy. Miles loves to go on walks and is learning leash manners in conjunction with basic obedience. Miles loves the water and plays in it any chance he gets. Crate trained, Miles is learning to understand many of the household rules. However,as is true of many 13 month olds, it is best that Miles be crated when his family is away. We feel that Miles can be stubborn and will need a strong handler to help teach him right from wrong and will benefit from a home that is active to help Miles relieve his high energy. Miles has not been socialized with other dogs and has not yet learned the correct way to meet a dog. However, he gets very excited to see people and can’t wait to say hi. Aside from water and walks, Miles enjoys playing with toys and throwing them around to entertain himself. While participating in activities around his foster home, Miles has shown a high degree of prey drive. As a result, we feel that he would be best suited for a home without small animals. If Miles sounds like a good match for your family, please ask to meet him today.

Allie is a social girl. She enjoys the company of people and dogs. She seems to greatly enjoy car rides and even spoils the driver with kisses along the way. Look for updates below as we get to know more about Allie.

Updates:

Hi there..It's me, Allie. Since coming to MAGSR I have changed so much. When I first arrived, I was fearful of just about everything and just wanted to be in my crate. Now, I'm out and about and busy trying to convince the resident dogs to play with me. I love to play with balls but don't understand the concept of bringing one back yet. Although I am a work in progress when it comes to basic obedience, I know sit and down and I am working on my leash manners. When on a walk there's some much to see and smell that sometimes I get a little too excited and pull. The resident girl in the house is my favorite companion and I will do anything for her. While living with a wonderful foster family, I'm waiting  for my forever home. Is that with you? I'll see you soon!

Maggie

Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 9 years 7 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 50 lbs

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Maggie was picked up by animal control and brought to a local shelter. Upon her arrival, it was very clear to the shelter staff that Maggie is a victim of cruelty and neglect. Maggie was extremely emaciated. Her body was covered in scabs, sores, and wounds. She was weak from lack of food and needed encouragement to get up and move. Although the shelter searched for her abusers, no one was identified. Recognizing that Maggie needed help, the shelter worked to find a safe place for Maggie to rest and recuperate.

Fortunately, Maggie has found safety in the MAGSR family. Despite all that Maggie has endured, she is a loving and affectionate dog. Once given the opportunity to warm up to new people, Maggie is all about leaning in for head rubs and giving little kisses. As Maggie has begun eating more regularly and is receiving the medical care she needs, her foster family is beginning to see her personality shine. True to the breed, Maggie is loyal and wants to be with her people. This also gives her the chance to get a few extra head rubs throughout the day. Maggie has clearly lived in a house prior to her arrival at MAGSR. She is housebroken and has some general household manners. At this time, it doesn't appear that Maggie knows any commands. As she is still recovering, her foster family has decided to slowly introduce Maggie to the children and animals in the home. However, Maggie seems to thrive in a calm environment.

All Maggie needs now is a loving forever home that will love and protect her through her gold years. If Maggie sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet her today.

If you'd like to help MAGSR care for Maggie, contribute here.

Updates:

Maggie has had an eventful week at MAGSR. As regular grooming and bathing has been key to her recovery, Maggie has had daily brushing sessions over the last week to help remove the extra fur and mats found all over her body. As is evident from the picture, these sessions tend to produce piles of fur. Although Maggie wasn't so sure about these brushing sessions at first, she has begun to sit down or lay down throughout each session. This has been a slow and steady process; however, it seems that Maggie now understands that the brush brings comfort and relief. In addition to brushing sessions, Maggie is also getting bathed every two to three days with a medicated shampoo. Although she still isn't thrilled about the water, Maggie relaxes while being massaged with the shampoo and absolutely loves having her head dried with the towel. After bathing and grooming sessions, Maggie tends to find a comfortable spot and sleeps. Spa sessions sure are tiring.

This week Maggie has started eating more regularly; this has dramatically increased her energy. Although she still waits for a special Stella and Chews dinner pattie before eating her food, Maggie is more enthusiastic about meal times. Perhaps she has learned to be a little spoiled. Who could resist spoiling such a sweet soul? With increased energy has come a desire for greater attention, a curiosity to explore new places in the house, and a greater interest in walks. Maggie loves being outside and would happily spend hours hanging with her people sniffing the flowers and lounging in the grass.

As Maggie still has a long road to recovery, please consider donating toward her care. MAGSR remains committed to providing Maggie with the care and comfort she deserves, but we could use your support along the road. Continue to look for updates on Maggie's journey as she makes her way toward a forever home.

,

Unfortunately, our lovely Maggie began showing signs of distress this week. MAGSR got her into the vet only to discover that Maggie had been hiding what appears to be significant heart issues in her lovely but battered body. The incredible staff at the vet's office are working diligently to gain as much information as possible in order to make decisions that will provide Maggie with comfort and relief. As she waits for a final test to determine next steps, Maggie is back home with her foster family resting. Although she is less energetic than we had seen over the last few weeks, Maggie continues to follow her foster mom around the house as often as she can. She is getting extra head rubs and always has the company of her foster family both fluffy and human. Maggie will be continuously monitored over the next few days to make sure that she is safe and comfortable. Please keep this special lady in your thoughts.

Tango is going home!
TangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTangoTango
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 4 years 9 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 95lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Tango was surrendered as his family could no longer provide him with the life he deserves.  He is a very handsome, good natured, friendly boy.  He loves other dogs both big and small, he just wants to be everyone's friend. He adores children - very gentle and just snuggles in.  He has had no issues meeting new people both women and men, big or small.  He does great riding in the vehicle.  He has not been around cats, so we have no idea how he is with them.  He enjoys playing in water, be it from a hose, pool or body of water.

Updates:

Tango is doing very well in his foster home. His foster reported that he was painful in his hind end, and so Tango is currently on a medical hold until he can be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. Check back on Tango's profile for more information on his status as information comes available.

,

Tango had his orthopedic consult and while he does have hip dysplasia, surgery is not recommended at this time.  He has loss of muscle in his hind end, and the surgeon feels his muscles can be built back up with various exercises, and this will greatly help his mobility and quality of life in the future.  He also needs to lose another 15 lbs, to come in around ~80 lbs, so on the leaner side, as all GSDs should be.  If you are interested in Tango, please ask to meet him!

,

Since Tango’s appointment with the surgeon, where he was diagnosed with muscle loss in his back end (along with hip dysplasia – not requiring surgery), he has been on a diet along with increased levels of exercise.  Tango is continuing to build his muscles, especially in his back end (you can see muscle patterns developing) and he is getting stronger every day.  As he gets stronger his obedience training is a necessity and it is something we work on daily and he is doing great.  He wants to please and do the right thing and he gets a sad face if he needs to learn the lesson again.  Tango has been a great companion. He loves to take walks, lay at my feet when resting, and he loves to talk to me even gets a little sassy at times, he is very social, in fact he is one of the most vocal dogs I have ever been associated with.  The foster home had another shepherd in the home for several weeks and the two dogs romped, ran and played hard daily – Tango experienced no muscle issues during this time.  Tango went to the dog park and to the dog beach and loved playing with all the other dogs at both places – see pictures.  He hopes to do that again, soon.  He loves water, if you have a hose he wants to play in it and at the beach he splashed and ran in the waves and of course he thoroughly loved his shower time at the end.  Tango is very food motivated. He will do just about anything if there is a snack/meal attached to it. Tango is very handsome and is told so often.  He is just an all-around great dog!  If you have any interest, ask to meet him and stop by to play and check him out.

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unlikely
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Jasper was dumped by his former owner on a country road and picked up by animal control.  When our volunteer picked him up from the shelter it was obvious he was not feeling well and not in great shape.  He immediately went into medical boarding at one of our vets offices, where he received the best care.  He had a severe respiratory and ear infection, hair loss with a skin infection and was not eating.  All needed tests were performed and treatment was started.  As time went on he was still not wanting to eat, radiographs were taken and it was found he had foreign objects in him.  He was immediately taken to surgery where a number of assorted items were removed from his stomach.

After spending 3 weeks in medical boarding Jasper was able to go home with his foster.  He is now on the mend, starting to eat on his own and finally wagging his tail some.  He still needs to put on some more weight but his foster will be sure he never misses a much needed meal.

Through all of this he has been nothing but sweet and friendly.  Jasper is now looking for his forever family, one that will treat him with care and love him for his lifetime.  He is ready to leave his past behind and looks forward to a future of living in a home, proper nutrition, walks, playtime and lots of cuddles from his humans.

Updates:

Jasper is doing great in his foster home and loves his foster parents. He is such a sweet boy who has come a long way since he came into the rescue. He went from not wanting to eat to sitting and eagerly waiting for his food. Jasper has a great appetite now and has put on some much-needed weight since his surgery. He loves everyone he meets and loves getting attention from everyone too (he’s so darn handsome and friendly, why wouldn’t anyone not want to give this boy some attention). Jasper likes his doggie beds, and if allowed, he’ll get up in the human bed too. Jasper is housebroken and crate trained, and he really loves to go for car rides. Jasper loves his Nylabone, although, his humans must be very careful in the toys selected for him due to his history, and he’s only allowed to have them when supervised. If this lovable handsome boy sounds like a fit for your family, check out his profile and ask to meet Jasper – he just might have a kiss waiting for you.

She has a confident and stable personality. Kona has lived with children in her previous home and did well with them. Apollo is a big, handsome fellow, and he is settling in nicely in his foster home.  It has been a couple weeks so this very striking and impressive dog is starting to get past the stress of being separated from his previous family, and is showing himself to be even-tempered, affectionate, and trained GSD.  With consistent and appropriate guidance from his person, he walks very well on leash, is well-mannered passing strangers and other dogs out walking in the neighborhood, and is generally very attentive and responsive.  However, Apollo is a powerful, headstrong dog that will require structure and strong leadership, and he does show some anxiety when left completely alone so he will need to be properly managed by an experienced adopter to build his confidence and avoid potential separation anxiety.  He is comfortable with the other dogs in his foster home, and crates very well.  Apollo is alert and can be protective of his space and pack, and will alarm bark at unfamiliar people.  He listens well, and is very focused on a leader that he trusts, and will need to complete training with his new people to help build and ensure those bonds of trust.  He will thrive in a home that can provide him with the love and consistent leadership that he needs, and he deserves nothing less.  If you think Apollo might be the dog for you, please ask to learn more about him.

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Olivia found herself left in a shelter drop box this summer. Although a little confused as to what all was happening to her, Olivia joined the MAGSR family and has never looked back. Throughout the rescue Olivia is known to be a charmer. Her bouncy, alert, and attentive personality are an immediate draw to everyone around her.

Olivia's current age estimate is very rough.

Olivia has thrived throughout her time in the rescue and she will be a lovely addition to her forever home. Although Olivia is ready to settle down in her forever home, she will require a little extra support as she has tested positive for heartworms. This diagnosis would have been easily avoided had Olivia been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives. Fortunately, Olivia has begun the first steps in the treatment process and will continue to receive the care she needs to move forward. MAGSR is committed to paying for Olivia's treatment; donations toward her care are greatly appreciated. If Olivia sounds like the right dog for your household, please ask to meet her today!

DESCRIPTION:

Khaleesi came to us as her prior person is being stationed out of the country and could not take her along.  Wanting only the best for Khaleesi she was surrendered to us to find her a loving family.  Khaleesi has lived with another male GSD and got along fine.  She is reported to be very friendly with people.  As she is new to us we are still learning more about her, please check back for updates.

Updates:

Khaleesi is doing very well in her foster home. While examined by one of MAGSR's wonderful veterinarians, they reported that she was painful in her end, and after preliminary radiographs have diagnosed her with hip dysplasia, so Khaleesi is currently on a medical hold until she can be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon. Check back on Khaleesi's profile for more information on her status as information comes available.

,

As you can see from the photos of her lounging around, Khaleesi is settling into her foster home nicely and proving to be a very sweet girl. She does not yet understand social distancing and insists on greeting every visitor with a pair of big brown eyes and a kiss. Khaleesi does occasionally try to tell her smaller (30lb) cousin she's the boss, however, so she might be best in a home with larger dogs (with whom she gets along with quite well). She likes giving toys and occasional chew, but has been very good with knowing what's a toy and what's a shoe and while you can tell she's excited by dinner time she's always a perfect lady by having a seat before she's served.

,

Leesi Lou has been cleared by an orthopedic specialist and her hip issues pose her no current problems and surgery is not needed. She has been a fantastic pup through her travels and vetting: chilling out in the car, behaving like a perfect lady with the techs and seeming unphased by the whole thing. Leesi has also settled into her foster home even more and has gotten into a good routine with her cousins and surroundings.

DESCRIPTION:

Zoey is 3 years old and her family made the hard decision to surrender her to us. She is all around a perfect princess. She is brilliant, loyal, loving, and loves her people. She is fully housebroken, potty trained, and has been crated as a younger dog.Once she settles in her new home, she will likely be able to earn freedom in the house quickly.

Zoey will never leave your side. We have a silly disorder we diagnosed her with (FOMO, fear of missing out). She loves to be where the people are.

She is excellent with kids (we are unsure at this time about toddlers and younger) and in her previous home slept with one of every night. Playing ball is her favorite past time. Well behaved when it comes to food, Zoey does not beg as she has never exposed her to table scraps or fed her from her family's plates; however, she does love carrots.

When meeting new people, it may take Zoey a few minutes to warm up, however, she settles in nicely once she understands there isn't a threat. Although Zoey has a great bark, she is really just a big baby. If Zoey sounds like a good match for your household, please ask about her today.

DESCRIPTION:

Ryder found himself in a shelter in North Carolina and was running out of rescue options. As luck would have it there happened to be two MAGSR volunteers in that very same shelter picking up four sweet puppies to bring into the MAGSR family. They had an opportunity to meet this regal boy and knew they wanted to save him. Emails were sent and arrangements were made and a week later this gentle giant made his way to Maryland.

Unfortunately, this sweet boy lived a life of neglect as he came in matted and with sores on his ears. MAGSR had him vetted as soon as we were able to and after completion of blood work we received the bad news that he was suffering from Heartworm disease, Ehrlichia, and Lymes. Ryder was started on medications and a Heartworm protocol that will get him healthy and feeling good again. With all that said, even though this poor boy felt miserable he is nothing but sweet Southern charm. In fact, he was so full of charm within minutes he won over the hearts of those volunteers that drove eight hours roundtrip to pick up this sweet boy and transport him to MAGSR. If this gentle giant sounds like he may fit your family please fill out an application now!

DESCRIPTION:

Piper is a very lovable young lady after she gets to know you.  In typical German Shepherd fashion, she is hesitant with new people especially if they are scared or unsure of themselves. She responds well to confident people, and then is eager to please. Piper needs to be socialized with strangers under the supervision of a confident handler. She is a young lady with lots of energy so exercise and training will be a must to keep her on her best behavior.

Piper rides well in a car and loves to go on walks. She has good leash manners for her age and lack of training. Piper has lived in a home with 7 other dogs while in foster without any issues. She crates well and seems to be house broken (no accidents in 2 weeks!). While in her foster home she has been very well behaved. If you are willing to put in the time to train and socialize Piper, this girl will make a wonderful family member.   Can you see her in your family?

DESCRIPTION:

Prax was surrendered to a shelter as he enjoyed running through the family's electric fence in order to explore the neighborhood. As a 90lb shepherd with a busy nose, the electric fence didn't seem to be much of a barrier for Prax particularly, if there was something interesting on the other side. Although losing his family must have been very confusing, Prax's goofy, fun-loving, and affectionate personality has remained intact. Prax is a social guy. Delighted by the opportunity to meet new people, Prax is all about big tail wags, wiggles, and kisses. Although he seems to enjoy the company of children, he would be best suited for a household with older children as his exuberance and size can be too much for little ones.

At this time Prax is housebroken and crate trained. He enjoys the option of taking breaks in his crate and settles nicely when asked to load up. Car rides are a breeze for this big guy as he quickly settles in for the ride. Although it is apparent that Prax spent very little time on leash prior to his arrival at MAGSR, he is quickly developing his leash skills and a few commands. This may have something to do with his love for long walks and regular runs with his foster family. It is apparent that Prax is an intelligent guy who likes clear direction and leadership from his handler. With these components in place, Prax will thrive in his forever home. If Prax sounds like a good match for your family, ask to meet him today.

I have settled nicely into my foster home. At first I was a little shy and skittish and it took a lot of coaxing to understand that there is only love, treats and kisses in this house. I still creep out of my crate but at least I am coming out of my own free will. In my short time here I have learned to fetch....and I bring it back!  I love to play with my big squeaky carrot that came to my foster house with me. I'm not really fond of my crate, but realize sometimes I need to go in it. I haven't had an accident in the house in over a week and a half so my foster mom thinks I'm housebroken.  There are two resident dogs in the house, and I don't know how to play with them, but I have stopped growling when they come near me or my crate. There may just be a bit of an adjustment time with other pups, because I have already started getting the idea that the other dogs might not be so bad! I'm dying to play with the guinea pig so my foster mom thinks I may have a little too much fun with small animals, (and yes, cats are small animals).  I'm a fantastic car rider and jump right in for whatever adventure awaits. When we're out I'm very gracious and love the attention I get. If I sound like a good fit for your family please let us know! I look forward to meeting someone who will love me forever!

Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 60 lbs

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Yes, but will chase
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Foxtrot was surrendered to a shelter for being too active. Imagine a 1 year old GSD puppy, who has had no training being too active. Sadly, too many people think dogs will train themselves, and have no idea how much exercise and mental stimulation a GSD requires. Foxtrot’s mannerisms are very much still puppy-like. He is a sweet, loving boy looking for someone to provide him with training and structure so he can be the best he can be. As he is still new to us we are still learning more about him, please watch for updates.

Updates:

Foxtrot is settling in nicely into his foster home. He is incredibly friendly towards people and the resident animals. He usually just sniffs at the resident cats, but then will give chase when they run. Foxtrot loves to play with the resident female GSD and would love another playful dog. Foxtrot needs some leash work on his basic obedience skills, which will come with Basic Obedience training and practice. Foxtrot is very smart and he's a problem solver, which can also get him into trouble if not managed properly. When in his crate, which he is not fond of and it takes him a little bit to settle down in, he likes to chew on everything he can get his teeth on, so no blankets, beds or accessories that he can pull apart and ingest should be left with him unsupervised. Foxtrot would love to have some humans of his own and hopefully, a playful dog as well. If Foxtrot sounds like he could be a fit for your family, ask to meet Foxtrot.

DESCRIPTION:

Thankfully, Casen was given up as he lived his life tied up outside.  This is no life for any dog, we have promised Casen he will never live outside again.  He is underweight, needing to gain approximately 20 lbs, we are working on fattening him up with good nutrition.  With spending his life tied up it’s amazing that he is such a sweet, calm boy.  He now loves to follow around his person and being loved on.  Their were children in his prior home that ran around and played outside in the yard where he was tied up, he had no bad reactions towards them, and only wanted to engage in the fun.  This was limited by the rope he was tied up with.  As he is new to us we are learning more about him, please watch for updates.

Updates:

Casen is settling in nicely into his foster home. He's sleeping a lot right now while he gains his strength back and gets used to a better life. Casen loves to eat, so he shouldn't have any trouble gaining weight. He's learning all about steps and uncarpeted floors. He sleeps in the crate overnight and does great. Casen hasn't had one accident in the house and is doing well in that area. Case walks great on a leash, and generally stays right next to his handler and does not pull (unless there's a rabbit or squirrel, which prompts him to launch himself to the end of the leash). Casen is very gentle with the youngster in his foster home, and is affectionate, cuddly, leans snuggles and just wants to be near his humans. Casen is a really great dog and MAGSR is so happy to help him to the better life he deserves. If Casen sounds like he may be the dog for you, ask to meet him.

One of the largest puppy mill busts found hundreds of German Shepherd's living in absolute filth and in horrendous condition.  Ankle deep mud and feces mixed with urine, no adequate shelter, lacking food and clean water is how these dogs were left to live, many for years.  The urgent call was made and MAGSR knew we had to take in as many as possible.  We now have 38 dogs that have a multitude of medical needs that we are addressing, and they need to learn to trust humans.  All dogs are scared, some are shut down, but our volunteers and vets will get them on their road to recovery.  It will be awhile before these dogs are ready for adoption, so please be patient and watch for updates.

An undertaking of this size for an all-volunteer rescue is quite a task, but one we are meeting it head on.  Many of the dogs require medical boarding so that they can receive the best possible care.  We are committed to providing everything they need, not only medically, but emotionally.  Our medical costs are going to be at an amount we have never seen before.  We need your help, the dogs need your help.  Please donate , your donation will go towards their ongoing care, medical needs, emotional needs and help them on their road to recovery and a brighter future.

Updates:

The GA 38 arrived in MAGSR’s care in early/mid January 2019 and over the past two months, their transformation has been nothing short of amazing. These 38 broken souls knew nothing but a life of filth, hunger, and abuse. Their eyes were filled with the look of fear, emptiness and uncertainty. They cowered in the corners of their runs and tried to be as far away from humans as possible and MAGSR volunteers knew they had quite a challenge ahead to right the wrongs of their past prior to arriving in MAGSR's care. MAGSR volunteers stepped up & took on the challenge head on. And now, two months later, through the endless work of dedicated volunteers that have selflessly given their time, patience and love, these beautiful creatures have begun to meet us with tail wags, lean-ins as we walk with them, and most importantly, where once there was emptiness and fear in their eyes, it’s clear those memories have been replaced with hope and even a bit of curiosity. Their wounds have healed, their bellies are full and they have learned that all humans aren’t so bad. They are greeting us at the front of their kennel runs now eager for treats and walks. All of them have learned to walk on a leash and we are beginning some basic obedience with them such as "sit", "heel" and “watch me.” They are now used to being handled regularly for normal things such as baths, getting their weights taken, and taking their monthly preventatives. Best of all, volunteers are seeing their unique personalities and social side come out with other dogs. Just a few months ago, they were all fighting for the same food and water and ability to stay alive but today, many have completely let down their guard and are comfortable enough to engage in play and/or positively interact with other dogs. All  of these dogs have shown us how intelligent and resilient they are and have made significant strides in their road of rehabilitation. They are ready for the next chapter of their journey and we hope you may be part of  their story.

,

Cayden had a good first week in his foster home. He spent the first day in his crate observing the activities in the house; both the humans and the resident GSD. The next day he came out of his crate and started to explore his foster home. When someone is home to supervise, his crate door is open so that he can find a comfortable spot on one of the dog beds. He did well in his crate for about 3 hrs a couple of times while his foster parents were away during the day. Cayden sleeps in his crate and except for stirring a bit in the early morning hours, he has been quiet and calm all night. He hasn't had any accidents at night or in the house during the day. He goes on 3 or 4 walks each day and he seems to understand that 'outside' is where he needs to do his business. He doesn't seem to mind the noises in the house; even when the big Dyson comes out to vacuum, he went upstairs at first and came right back down and moved around the house as the vacuum came his way. Noises and people outside are of great concern right now to Cayden, which is not surprising for the GA38 dogs - he is fearful and scared of new things he's never experienced before. Cayden usually keeps calm when we encounter a person or a car going by but gets scared with noises coming from a playground nearby or several people walking close by. The resident GSD leads the way on our walks with Cayden, and he gladly follows her lead and is already getting more confident. Cayden would learn from and do best in a home with a confident dog to help show him the way forward. He walks nicely on a leash and is learning how to heel thanks to all the volunteers that walked him at the kennel. As with the prior GA38 foster his humans fostered, it will take a little time for Cayden to adjust to his new life and getting comfortable with his new surroundings. Cayden is a handsome, smart and sweet boy and deserves a much better life than he had before he came to MAGSR. Stand by for an update on this sweet boy and contact MAGSR if you're interested in meeting him.

Cayden has been with his foster family for about two months now and he is progressing very nicely. He is much more comfortable with his routine, both inside and the outside world. He looks forward to his potty walks and a daily visit to one of the parks nearby. Cars, people, playgrounds with kids making noise and running around are not so scary anymore for him, but any sudden and unexpected sounds or movements still make him back up and he needs reassurance that it's all ok. Cayden’s almost a pro navigating city streets, waiting at intersections and proceeding with the 'heel' command. Once we're at the park, he's free to explore and sniff as the length of the long leash allows. He has been introduced to both medium and large dogs recently and he was friendly and playful. He also greeted a few smaller dogs/puppies in the neighborhood, sniffed and showed no aggression, but rather his friendly and playful side. Speaking about being playful, when Cayden sees dogs off leash running around in a park area, he will look at them and he starts jumping with joy, indicating that he would love to join them. He is also eager to meet other dogs of all sizes on a leash in the neighborhood. The GA dogs only had each other and he likely remembers running and playing with the other ogs. Cayden’s foster home doesn’t have any runners, but the short distances we were able to run with him he was happy to engage. Cayden briefly met his foster family’s 3 year old granddaughter on a walk and was curious enough to sniff her after a few minutes. When everyone is home, Cayden prefers to be in his crate with the door open; however, he is not as happy being left in the crate when we're away, so carabiner clips are used to secure the crate door, but he settles down. Cayden sleeps quietly in his crate at night with no attempt to get out. Cayden relies on the resident GSD for comfort and guidance that things are ok. Cayden needs a fur-ever home with another medium/large playful and compatible dog to show him the ropes and continue to give him confidence. Cayden and the resident GSD now interact in a playful way and he’s sweet on her, as when she’s not close to him, he lets everyone know he wants to be near her. Cayden is ready for his fur-ever home and is looking for a family that will provide him with structure, guidance, love and companionship.

Cayden is comfortable in his foster home and is used to his routine and everything that happens on a daily basis, including noises and movements. Only the unexpected still makes him startle, but he recovers quickly with reassurance. He will come and explore unknown objects and sniffs just about anything including coats, shoes and the foster parent. He will seek his crate for comfort/rest, as his safe place, but most of the time he hangs around the resident GSD sibling or he finds his comfy spot in the house. He now understands what it's like to live in a home and what dog happiness is all about. Cayden relied on the resident GSD for cues in the beginning, and he still does when unsure, but he is now more independent and has come out of his shell. He runs around the house with enthusiasm when it's time to leave the house, and he happily jumps into the car to go places. It took a little time to gain his trust, but he now seems always ready for a new adventure. He is treat motivated and his shepherd personality to please is coming out, but he still has GA moments that he will have to work on over time. He is still shy with strangers when he is approached but he will investigate a person and allow touching after a while. He has discovered squirrels and he is curious what they are doing going up the tree. Cayden's fosters are currently working with him on discovering the pleasure of playing with toys and balls. He is a young, energetic and muscular boy that needs a firm hand at the helm. He is also a lovable, sweet and playful guy and he deserves a fur-ever home with a family that can give him a chance for a better life.

Cayden's foster parents recently took him to the beach in Delaware. When the bags get packed and the car loaded, he and his foster sister get really excited because that means we get to go somewhere on a new adventure. Cayden did really well on the two-hour drive and never complained. Cayden had a wonderful time exploring the beach for the first time. His ears flopped in every direction excited to investigate horseshoe crabs and frolicking in the bay water. Digging for critters and treasures in the sand is another favorite of his! There were so many new sights and smells to explore. One of his favorites was seeing the bunnies run away and him wanting to chase them on our walks at dusk. This boy is the adventurous type and likes to participate in new activities. Cayden likes his daily walks and training exercises. He is getting better at mastering skills and a little treat always helps. Now that it is almost summer, he was recently introduced to frozen peanut butter cubes and he loves them! Not daily, but occasionally, as a special treat. Cayden plays with rope toys, but the ball is not something he is fond of yet. He is still shy with strangers, but will approach on his own after a couple of minutes. This smart, sweet boy is ready for his forever home. Check out his profile and ask to meet Cayden!

Jango was surrendered to a shelter for being too active.  Imagine a GSD puppy who has had no training being too active.  Sadly too many people think dogs will train themselves, and have no idea how much exercise and mental stimulation a GSD requires.  Jango’s mannerisms are very much still puppy like.  He is a sweet, loving boy looking for someone to provide him with training and structure so he can be the best he can be.  As he is still new to us we are still learning more about him, please watch for updates
