Description
This lovely lady found herself in the care of a rescue determined to place her in a safe and loving home. That rescue later reached out for help with some of the dogs in their care, and as we all know, teamwork makes the dream work, so MAGSR didn't think twice before stepping forward to assist.
Cloud is the kind of dog who leaves an impression you won’t soon forget. With her kind eyes, sweet spirit, and gentle way of moving through the world, it’s hard not to fall in love. A sensitive soul at heart, Cloud has been through a lot and responds best to slow, soft introductions and a gentle, patient handler - someone who understands that dogs who’ve had a tough past deserve the time and space to build trust. She’ll likely need a little more decompression time than most dogs when settling into a new space, but the rewards of her trust are well worth the wait. Given that a calmer, more consistent environment will help set her up for success, this sweetheart may struggle around little kids. A charming companion, Cloud gets along well with cats and other dogs; she prefers large male dogs whose steady presence helps her feel more secure.
While she might take a moment to settle in with new people and surroundings, this affectionate girl warms up more quickly when there are treats involved. When she opens up, her bright, playful personality emerges, revealing a funny, friendly pup who’s eager to connect and explore. Whip-smart and athletic, Cloud has amazing potential, with the right guidance and continued training. Not only will additional training allow her to fine-tune her manners, it will also allow her to build and strengthen a bond with her forever family. If you’re someone who values a pup with depth, sweetness, and just the right dash of playfulness, Cloud might be your perfect match. To witness her quiet, endearing magic in person, ask to meet her today.
Updates
Cloud had a great weekend at Lake Anna. Lots of firsts for her! As expected, it took her a day to settle into her new surroundings, but she LOVED the acre of fenced in wooded yard. The deck gave her a chance to practice stairs. Her great accomplishment was successfully navigating a full flight of stairs, which is a skill she brought back with her and has been proudly displaying.
She loves to be brushed and seems fine with being pet and handled provided it is slow and gentle.
She is VERY affectionate and loving. We are working on manners as she can be a bit enthusiastic in expressing her affection. She jumps up, and anxiously paws with her strong toenails to seek attention. We are working on “all four in the floor” and “sit” to request to be pet. A gentle nose nudge is ok, too. She is a quick study and seems to be catching on.
She is warming up to other members of the family, but is definitely most comfortable with her chosen person. Slow calm movements and a serene environment are best for this sensitive girl. She routinely lets out a yelp as if she has been stepped on when someone just walks by her, even from a few feet away, or if they are carrying are object. Any fast movements or loud voices set her off as well.
Interestingly, she is a very curious girl. She was fascinated by the boats on the lake and is curious about dogs and people on our walks (we don’t engage, but praise for calm acknowledgement). When we took her down to our dock, to our surprise, Cloud jumped off into deep water and swam. She was very calm as we guided her ashore. It looked like she was new to swimming, but definitely enjoyed it as she wanted to go back in.
Tuesday will be two weeks since her arrival and she has come so far since then. When she first arrived she would squeak and pace for hours. Now, it is heartwarming to hear her flop onto the ground and let out classic GSD sighs of contentment as she settles in for a long nap :) She still has long way to go to learn to trust, but she is coming along and her sweet, playful personality is beginning to emerge. She will make someone a very lovely companion.
Update 9 July: Cloud is doing great! We are away for a “girls’ weekend” at the lake and she is loving life. It is a joy to see her relaxed and in her element. We’ve had some huge thunderstorms-real loud boomers, and she remains calm continuing to eat her dinner! If her “person” is nearby, this girl is curious and confident.
Today, she had her first visit with a non family member since she joined us and she did great! Quite the guard dog she alerted to the guest’s arrival, but quickly welcomed our visitor when I assured her they were ok to come inside. She has just about mastered “all four on the floor” even in the midst of her excitement, and she often spontaneously demonstrates her “polite sit” to be pet.
A true love bug, she is always looking to love on you. She is very much a go with the flow kind of girl, happy to relax and nap while you read, do work, or watch a movie; and just as happy to be active outside to play, go for a walk or hike. She adores the car and likes short and long rides; we are all thrilled that she knows how to jump in by herself!
