MAGSR Frequently Asked Questions
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes. We are an IRS (and state of Maryland) recognized charity [IRS Code 501(c)3] so donations are deductible to the extent that you can personally deduct charitable contributions on your taxes.
What percentage of my donation goes directly to helping the dogs?
100%. All of our volunteers freely donate their time and resources and are not compensated.
I can’t adopt or foster right now, but I want to help. What can I do?
So many things. First off, we always need donations, so helping can be as easy as dropping a check in the mail. If you’re uncomfortable with a cash donation, call MAGSR to see what supplies we currently need the most: bedding, food, crates, leashes, toys, supplies, and so on. The number of shepherds we can help is directly proportional to the donations we receive.
Secondly, you can directly sponsor a dog. See the MAGSR web site under Sponsorship for more information.
Finally, you can donate your time. We need people for so many things: kennel visits, dog transportation, home visits, various fundraisers--the list is nearly endless! In addition we have regular PetSmart visits (probably at one near you) and a variety of adoption functions. Even if you’re not fostering, you can pick up a dog from the kennel, their owner, or the foster to bring to one of those functions for a few hours once a month.
I’m ready to volunteer my time or become a foster owner. What do I do?
On the MAGSR web site, under Forms there’s a volunteer form and a foster form.
When you submit your form, it goes to either the volunteer coordinator or the foster coordinator. Someone will contact you shortly.
And welcome aboard!
