Description
Jovial Jason was picked up as a stray in the south. When he arrived at a shelter, it was discovered that he had a large, open wound on his back leg. As this shelter, like so many others, was sitting above capacity, once Jason's stray hold was completed, he was placed on the list to be euthanized. This handsome guy was incredibly lucky as he was pulled at the last minute by another rescue. Although they knew that Jason would need to be transferred to another rescue, this group knew that Jason deserved every opportunity to move forward safely.
Jason was fortunate to have been in a foster home for a few months before moving into the MAGSR family. During this time he was able to begin receiving the medical support needed to start the healing process. With debris cleaned out of his leg, medication provided, and six weeks of rehab in place, Jason's leg healed nicely allowing him to return to regular activities and playtime. Having endless opportunities to socialize with other large dogs, Jason greatly enjoys play time. He has an active and enthusiastic play style. However, we have learned that he gets a little too excited about cats and farm animals. He will not be placed in a home with these creatures. Having lived in a home, Jason has begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a household. He is housebroken and crate trained. As is true of all dogs, Jason will need time to adjust to the expectations, structure, and routines of his forever family. With time, patience, and leadership, we know he will succeed. As Jason moves forward, training will be key to his success. Training will not only help Jason create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.
Unfortunately, we have learned that Jason is heartworm positive. This prognosis could have been prevented if Jason has been provided with monthly preventatives. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR knows that Jason is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Jason's treatment. Not only will your donation help Jason get the care he needs, but it will also help us welcome other dogs with medical needs. Jason's treatment has already begun and he is more than half-way finished! He will need to take it easy over the next month or so as he finishes up. Jason is an amazing guy that is hoping to find a family that will love him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?
Updates
Jovial Jason has been living with a foster while undergoing heartworm treatment. He loves to play, chew his toys, and rolls right over for a belly rub. He’s an energetic love-bug and no-doubt looking forward to being free of heartworms. Jason is very enthusiastic and will need a family committed to exercising him both mentally and physically.
,After being with his foster for a while, he's adjusting to home life very well and, with his energy, responds well to structure in the home. He's now obedience-trained and crate-trained. Similarly to his prior update, his foster family has discovered more things he loves: walks, food, squirrel-watching, going in the car, and so many other things! He loves belly rubs and belly rubs and belly rubs! Even though it's already been said, it's worth mentioning that this guy really loves belly rubs! Even though he's not a cat guy, Jason definitely loves to meet people and he's been doing great as one of our MAGSR ambassadors at events. He wants to meet you too!
,Jason came to MAGSR with heartworm and a pre-existing injury in his leg, both of which kept him restricted to very light activity, but he's come a long way in his recovery since these things were diagnosed in 2023. He's officially out of treatment now that he's tested negative for heartworm and is free again to run and play. His leg only shows some stiffness when he overdoes it (which is his favourite thing to do!) but it never seems to bother him. He'll just limp and run on three legs for a bit as the happy boy that he is - he doesn't let it slow him down and, in fact, he'd run until his leg falls off if you let him! Now that he's made this progress, he's finally free to do his favourite things -- he can tap into his silly and goofy side and run and play when he wants, maybe destroy a toy here and there, or he can tap into his very affectionate side and be a total velcro pup that loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. Now that this bright boy is free from his health restrictions, he just needs to find his perfect forever family. Could that be you?
