Description
Trixie was on our schedule to be euthanized due to separation anxiety, destructive behavior and growling at the owners family member. Upon further inquiry we determined that she had undergone several drastic changes in her home life and wasn't given any tools with which to cope and was set up to fail. I took her on personally to see if I could help her become a stable, good, canine citizen.
Let me tell you, she has done phenomenal. I've had her for about 7 weeks. She was quickly started on multiple behavior modification drugs and crate trained. She has also taken a lot of confidence from my two well mannered dogs. I am now tapering her medications in an effort to find the bare minimum she needs to continue doing well. She is still sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements but is much less scared than when she first came home (and we live next to a military base, so this gets tested daily). She is not a fan of hardwood/tile floors due to having hip dysplasia/arthritis and needs some help getting up in my car but can jump down okay. Separation anxiety isn't even an issue when she is in the kennel. She easily goes in (knows the command "night night") and doesn't fuss or dig or chew. She is the sweetest girl, constantly wagging her tail and always happy to see a kind face. Her ideal home would be a calm, stable house with at least one other dog. Minimal slick surfaces and stairs. Privacy fenced in yard. Comfy couch. Preferably a home where she will not be crated for more than 6-8 hours at a time. Probably would be okay with well trained older children.
She is located in NC, but I am wiling to drive. References will be checked thoroughly. Adoption fee of $200 (a portion will be donated to the organization that aids in finding her forever home). She will come with meds and supplements, is vaccinated, spayed, on heartworm/flea and tick prevention, and recently had perfectly normal bloodwork and negative fecal.
