Description

Lovely Zazoo lived in a loving home with kids and another dog. Unfortunately, when the family was unable to remain in their home, they could not find housing that would allow them to keep their dogs. As a result, they made the difficult decision to surrender the dogs to a local shelter. This is never an easy decision. However, sometimes families have simply run out of options. Shelter staff welcomed Zazoo into their care and made sure she had everything she needed to meet with success. Unfortunately, with shelters sitting at or above capacity, staff knew that Zazoo would be most successful if she was placed within a breed specific rescue. Knowing Zazoo would be a great addition to the MAGSR family, our team was thrilled to welcome her.

Zazoo is a stunning girl. Friendly, active, and smart this lady truly embodies the traits of a GSD. As is true of most shepherds, Zazoo will be most successful in a home that will exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. This will help her maintain her stable and confident personality. Having lived in a home previously, Zazoo did well with the children in the home. However, as is typical of the breed, she can be protective of the household. With some clear prey drive in place, Zazoo is not suited for a home with small animals or cats. She is already housebroken, crate trained, and knows many of the ins and outs of living in a home. It is important that her forever family, provide her with structure, routine, and leadership so that Zazoo can adapt to the expectations of her forever home. Well aquainted with toys, Zazoo loves to play and can entertain herself or interact with others.

Although Zazoo lived in a home, she does need to learn some leash manners. Our team is already starting this process. Training will go a long way with Zazoo. Not only will training help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen, it will also help her build a strong and healthy bond with her forever family. If sweet Zazoo sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today!

Updates

We have been fostering Zazoo for a little over 2 weeks now and Zazoo has been an excellent
house guest. She bonded surprisingly quickly. We have a crate set up but she is at a place in
life where she wants to be close to her humans so we moved a dog bed into our room and that
is where she spends the nights. We have left her home alone with free run of the house for
periods up to 7 hours and so far, she has not gotten into anything she was not supposed to,
nothing chewed up and no messes in the house.
Our daily routine consists of a long walk in the morning, one in the afternoon and one before
bedtime so she typically gets about 4 to 5 miles per day. She does well on the leash and while
not always perfect, she does understand and mostly abides to the heal command. She also
knows sit, down, and she understands the concept of stay but we still need to work on duration
and distance. Her original description discussed prey drive which we found to be true and are
working to control this. That goes for cats, squirrels, deer, and sometimes other dogs,
especially the small yappy ones.
With regard to toys, she has little interest in stuffed animals or chew toys but she goes nuts for
balls, kongs, and frisbees. She also enjoys water, especially when the hose comes out. Throw
her a ball and she will act more like a Retriever than a German Shepherd.
We have been working on her socialization with other dogs, specifically our son’s Blue nose pit
who we take care of periodically. Our son is a dog whisperer in his own right and his pit is one
of the most balanced dogs I have seen. Regardless, the introduction took a lot longer and
required more effort than expected but once we got passed the formalities, they can co-exist
with some supervision and it is getting better as they continue to see each other.
Zazoo is a sweetheart and would be an easy addition to a family with no other pets. She bonds
fast, has a great personality and is generally laid back unless she is playing ball with you.
