King

ADOPTED 05/15/2018!

King

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 11 years 3 weeks
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 70 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Unknown
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Yes
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

King made his way to us after he was confiscated by Animal Control for running at large and lack of proper care.  He is approximately 4 years old.  He is a little shy upon first meeting new people, but he quickly warms up and leans in to be petted.  He seems to be a very nice boy that just needs stability, love and care.

Updates:

Once in our care, our volunteers noticed King may have some difficulty seeing everything that is happening around him, so MAGSR had King seen by an eye specialist who diagnosed King with Progressive Retinal Atrophy in both eyes. The doctor feels it could be congenital or event related onset. King is totally blind in his right eye and has partial sight in his left eye. At the vet's recommendation, MAGSR is starting King on a dietary supplement, Ocuvite, which is inexpensive and can be purchased online easily. Going forward, King will need to be seen once a year by an eye specialist. King's foster mom reports he was an amazing patient and through all the tests, he was gentle and cooperative - he even gave the vet a kiss when they were done. King's personality outshines everything else. King is wonderful in the home and quickly gets out of the resident cat's way. On his walks, King is friendly to everyone he meets - adults, kids and other dogs. He rides well in the car, is housebroken, and does well on a leash. He's not fond of the crate, but he does wonderful when free in the house. King can get easily spooked but that may have to do with his limited sight - when he gets scared, he just backups and doesn't bark or growl. He is learning about the steps and that they aren't a bad thing. King loves his food and treats and will sit nicely for them. King is a wonderful guy and anyone who meets him won't focus on his limited sight, but rather what a great dog and companion he is.

Bo

ADOPTED 05/13/2018!

Bo adopted

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 10 years 3 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 100 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Basic Commands
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Older kids, over 12
Good With Cats: No
Other Dogs OK: Some, with proper introduction
DESCRIPTION:

Bo came to us from a shelter, so we have no history on him.  He can be picky about his dog friends and may do best as an only dog or with female dogs.  Training of course will go a long way helping Bo settle in, learn some manners and how to properly interact with other dogs.  With people he is very friendly, although we do not know how he is with children at this time.

Updates:

Bo is great dog, and he's doing nicely in foster.  His weight is up to 84lbs from 69lbs a month ago, and he loves to run and is building muscle - he is really looking good.  He has been going to training for a few weeks and is doing very well the class, both with his basic commands and in terms of his confidence and socialization.  He does fine in his crate (although he will start to make a racket sometimes if he feels he's missing out on something!), is house broken, and has acclimated well, and is happy and comfortable with his two older GSD foster siblings.  Bo still has a lot to learn, but overall he's a very sweet and responsive dog, that is progressing well and will make a great addition to the right lucky home, that is ready to provide the care and love that Bo so richly deserves.

Handsome a sweet Bo was returned to MAGSR thru no fault of his own after his family decided they no longer wanted him. Bo’s prior family never truly committed to him and he spent most of his time in a crate. Bo is an active and friendly boy who needs exercise and continued training, as do most German Shepherds. Bo is ready for a forever family who will truly commit to him, spend time with him and not lock him in a crate and not give him up when he becomes an inconvenience. If interested in meeting this handsome boy, ask to meet Bo today!

DESCRIPTION:

Oliver was surrendered as he was not good with the resident cats.  He was originally adopted from a shelter in Niagara Falls, Canada.  His adopters moved and could not take him so they left him with their parents in TN who had cats.   So as you can see he is well travelled on the East Coast.  He is a friendly boy who would just like to settle his paws in a forever home, one without cats of course.

Color: Black & Silver
Current Size: 60 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

Windsor came to us from shelter where ended up as a stray.  He is now in our care, looking for a better life and family who will care for him for his lifetime.  We do not have any history for him, we are getting to know him.   He has been friendly with those he has met and evaluated well with other dogs.  Windsor is ready to put his past behind him and looks forward to a fresh start in a new home.

Updates:

Windsor is a good foster pup. He gets along well with everyone, four-legged (dogs only so far) and otherwise. Windsor is working on his doorway manners and he's learning sit/stay in his foster home.  Windsor is a pacer out in the yard and has some energy to burn. Windsor is slowly learning to play, when he wants to.  Windsor accepts the crate, although he's not always happy about going into it, but he's quiet and relaxed when in there. Windsor is great interacting with kids. If Windsor sounds like a good fit for you, please ask to meet him.

Daina

Daina

Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 8 years 2 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 50 lbs.
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Sadly Daina's family turned her into a shelter as she was experiencing digestive issues and weight loss.  Such a friendly, loving and sweet girl, she did not deserve to be abandoned especially in her time of need.   Now that Daina is with us she is receiving the care she needs and deserves.  She has been seen by our vet and is undergoing testing to determine why she is so emaciated.  She is receiving high quality nutrition and supplements and extra meals.  Daina deserves to know the love of a real family, one that will care for her no matter what.  Please consider Daina when looking for  your next BFF.

Updates:

Daina's test results revealed that she  has EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.  This is caused when the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to properly digest food.  This is very easily treated by adding enzymes to each meal which helps the body digest food.  More information can be found at epi4dogs.com along with before and after pictures of dogs that have EPI.

Daina is now receiving the enzymes she needs and will begin to gain weight.  Please do not let EPI deter you from considering Daina, she deserves a family to love and care for her and in return she will give you her devotion.

Daina is doing so very well in her foster home and is definitely stronger and putting on weight now that she has the enzymes she needs for her food. Daina is a smart, playful, active, curious and fun girl. Her playful personality is really emerging now that she feels better. Daina loves to play tug and will also retrieve a ball thrown for her and will sit immediately when waiting for it to be thrown again.  She is friendly but alert and will alert her foster mom when she hears unexpected noises, but Daina is a pretty quiet dog in general. Daina is very well behaved and housebroken. She is learning obedience commands and leash manners and takes easy corrections well - some training will help quickly teach her the skills she needs to be a good canine citizen. Daina is just a wonderful, sweet, playful young girl waiting to make some family very happy!

Hi - I’m Daina! I’m a little over 1 year old, past the puppy days but so full of fun!  I sit, walk well on a leash, play with other dogs and kids very nicely, love my crate, and am a really happy dog.  I do have one easily managed issue: I need to have enzymes sprinkled on all my food 20 minutes before I eat, to help me digest it and stay healthy.  It’s called EPI, or exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, (which you can look up online very easily), but other than that, I’m a normal, happy, fun young girl looking for my forever home.  I’ve met other dogs, horses, and kids here on my foster’s farm, and I’m friendly but alert. I don’t bark much at all, unless I hear something that just doesn’t sound right - then I’ll let you know. I like to play ball and tug, and go for walks anywhere you want to take me!  Please consider me when you are looking for a dog you can love forever - I’m kind of a sweetheart!
