DESCRIPTION:

Lacy was surrendered to us due to a baby on the way and there would be no room for Lacy. It is obvious she was not well cared for as she came to us obese, weighing 107 lbs. and should only weigh around 70 lbs.  She also came to us with a skin infection and some fur loss, which our vet feels is caused by lack of care and poor quality food.  She is being treated for the skin infection, put on a diet, good quality food, along with exercise that she obviously did not get in her last home.  She is settling into her foster home and dealing with the changes of her new life.  She is confused with some whining, but that is expected with the changes.  She is very sweet and friendly with everyone she has met.

Updates:

Hi everyone, meet Lacy! Lacy is super sweet with humans and children.  She is almost six years old, knows some basic commands, and loves to fetch!  She also likes to play soccer, chew on Nylabones and be with her people.  She does have a skin allergy that requires daily medicine.  Lacy is on a weight management plan so she can slim down a few pounds (summer is coming and she really wants a two piece swimsuit).  Lacy is scared of bicycles and golf carts. She is housebroken and crate trained. If you are looking for a furry co worker to rest in a dog bed while you work, play some low key fetch on breaks, go for a short stroll after work or on lunch break, Lacy is the dog for you!!!  Lacy has a propensity to resource guard and protect from other dogs (unsure about cats) so she would be best as an only dog.  If you have any questions let me know!

Lacy has settled in well at her foster home.  She is a pro at keeping all wild creatures out of the backyard.  Her soccer skills are something to behold.  Her leash walking skills are coming along nicely. And all her beautiful hair has grown back.   She does need a daily pill for her skin condition and most likely will need to remain on the pill for the rest of her life.  She is a wonderful house guest and always lets me know when something unusual is at the front door.  She is not fond of thunder storms or bicycles.  She mostly ignores other dogs while out on walks, unless they try to approach.  She doesn't get on furniture and takes treats nicely.  And she is a favorite at the vets office.  If you are looking for a more older mature lady, who will make a great companion Lacy would be a wonderful addition to your family.

Update 23 November 2022: Lacy has been in the rescue for over a year and is really hoping to find a family she can call her own this holiday season.   Are you looking for a dog that is already housebroken, knows some basic obedience and is happy to lounge or play fetch in the yard ?! If so, Lacy is the girl for you!  Lacy is like a fine wine; she only gets better with age and she absolutely adores her humans. Lacy has 3 main loves: people, jolly balls, food and marrow bones, in that order.  Lacy had a rough past as she's been neglected and abandoned by the ones who were entrusted to provide her a loving home but she is putting that behind her and ready to start fresh.  Lacy is intelligent, inquisitive, lovable, and protective.  As is her true nature she is a herder and wants everyone and everything to be corralled, to include cyclists as she is upset when they pass her by but will gladly jog next to or in front of them.   She is great at keeping her humans on a schedule and will vocally let you know if you are late for a feeding or letting her outside.  She has blossomed into a beautiful shepherd with a beautiful coat with proper nutrition, medication, and TLC.  Lacy would prefer to be the only dog in the household.  Lacy would enjoy a family to show her love, attention, structure and patience.  She is such a good girl who has a lot of love to give. If Lacy sounds like a good fit for you, ask to meet her today!

Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 58 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 65 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: Unknown
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Ollie was picked up as a stray and brought to a shelter in the south. Although he waited patiently for his family to come and claim him, no one stepped forward for this handsome guy. Shelter staff worked hard to try to help Ollie find a forever family; however, with shelter numbers over capacity, Ollie was scheduled to be euthanized. Recognizing that this guy deserved a life and a family of his very own, a final plea went out. Fortunately, we heard Ollie's story and stepped in to help him move forward.

Ollie is a friendly and interactive guy. He simply loves everyone. Charismatic and goofy, it is hard to keep from smiling in his presence. Good with people and with dogs, Ollie was clearly well-socialized at some point along his journey. He is an all around good guy with your typical GSD energy. As a young GSD, Ollie is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that all dogs crave. As we do not know anything about Ollie's past, we do not know how much experience has had in a household. However, based upon his stable personality and friendly demeanor, he has known love and companionship. Ollie, like any new dog, will likely need a little time to adjust to the rules and routines of his forever home. However, with patience and clear routines he will thrive. Training will go a long way with Ollie. Not only will this help him bond with his forever family but it will also help him develop the skills needed to be a good canine citizen. Ollie is looking for a forever family that will love him for a lifetime. If this sweet guy sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet him today.

Jockey

ADOPTED 12/17/2022!

Jockey
JockeyJockey
Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 3 years 5 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 72 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 72 lbs
Housebroken: Likely
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Unknown
DESCRIPTION:

Young Jockey was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter quite a few times. This last time Jockey got off the farm her family made the tough decision to surrender her as they were afraid she may get hit by a car. Recognizing that a GSD is often most successful if placed through a breed specific rescue, shelter staff worked with MAGSR to help move Jockey forward. We are so excited to have welcomed Jockey to the MAGSR family.

Thriving on attention and interaction, Jockey loves to be doted upon and is incredibly outgoing. She is certainly a work in progress as she doesn't quite realize that she is a full-grown shepherd and certainly needs some work on her manners. Jockey will be a delight in training class. Not only will training help Jockey bond to her new family but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. Training helps to focus the mind and develop confidence. Jockey will benefit from both.

Jockey has not had many interactions with dogs that we are aware of and as a result, we are still learning about her doggy socialization skills.

Jockey is a work in progress and incredibly worth it! If you are interested in helping Jockey learn the good life please inquire.

DESCRIPTION:

MAGSR received a call from another local rescue that a large group of puppies were in need of placement as soon as possible. In total there were 21 pups who would need rescue placement. As this was too many puppies for one group to support, the hope was that we could work together to get everyone into safe and loving homes. With 8 pups finding safety with the other rescue, our team began working together to see if we could find loving foster homes for the remaining 13. Although this was a rather large undertaking, team MAGSR worked quickly to put everything in place. The "Christmas Puppies" - Rudolph, Hermy, Yukon, Clarice, Moonracer, Donner, Vixen, Claus, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, and Cupid - have arrived and are hoping to find forever homes for the holidays.

Having been born in what appears to be less than ideal situations, the "Christmas Puppies" arrived having missed out on early vetting, exposure to new environments, and socialization with people outside their immediate caregivers. Now that they are living with MAGSR foster families, their opportunities are endless. All 13 puppies are going to see our amazing vetting partners so that we can begin vaccinations and make sure that everyone is healthy. In their foster homes, these puppies are learning about toys, treats, regular meals, and the comfort of soft, warm beds. They are also beginning the important process of learning the ins and outs of living in a home. As very intelligent pups everyone is excited to begin. As they move forward, it is critical that their new families provide the "Christmas puppies" with regular socialization with people and other animals. A well socialized pup will become a stable adult. Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, training, patience, and socialization, they will develop into good canine citizens. If you are interested in welcoming a member of the "Christmas puppy" litter into your household, ask to meet them today!

Updates:

Dasher's brother, Rudolph, joined the rescue with some unexpected medical needs that have required extra support.  He could really use your help.

Working closely with our amazing veterinary teams, Rudolph has begun seeing his regular vet to address typical puppy vetting needs as well as a specialist to address concerns about a preputial defect. Although it is unknown if this condition was congenital or trauma based, Rudolph needs a contrast study and preputial reconstruction in order to correct the defect and help him move forward. When combining Rudolph's presurgical care, surgical consult, contrast study, and surgical reconstruction, his care will cost more than four-thousand dollars. Having been a very good puppy throughout this process, we know that Santa has Rudolph on the top of his "nice" list and is working on finding him the perfect forever family. With surgery scheduled in early December, Rudolph is hoping to be healed for the holidays. Rudolph's care is very expensive, but we know that this special guy is worth the cost. Please consider supporting Rudolph for the holidays and donate to his care. Not only will your support help us get this little lovebug the help that he needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support other dogs with medical needs.

Update: Dasher is so sweet and has done well in our home.  He has come such a long way since the pups were rescued.  He loves our dogs, he's very playful, and has come out of his shell and really seeks affection with people. He is good with kids, teens and adults.  He's also making great progress with house-training.

DESCRIPTION:

Lucy's family fell on hard times and could no longer afford to provide her with the care that they knew she deserved. As a result, they decided to surrender her to a local shelter where they hoped that Lucy would find a forever family that would provide her with a lifetime of love. Although the shelter staff recognized that Lucy was an incredible girl, they also knew that shepherds are a special breed that are often most successful when placed within a breed specific rescue. When asked if we could welcome Lucy into the MAGSR family, we immediately stepped forward.

Lovely Lucy is an interactive, intelligent, and affectionate girl. It is obvious that her family worked hard to socialize her with new people and animals. Lucy enjoys the company of people of all ages. She grew up with kids and is accustomed to their activities, sounds, and movements. Lucy also lived with cats. Although she never hurt them, she was known to chase them for fun. Having lived in a household, Lucy knows many of the ins and outs of living in a home. However, as is true of any new dog, she will need time to adjust to the structures and routines of her forever home. Lucy will thrive in an environment with structure, routine, and leadership. Training will go a long way with this lovely lady. Not only will it help her develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. Lucy is looking for a family that will love her for a lifetime, could that be with you?
