Jovial Jason was picked up as a stray in the south. When he arrived at a shelter, it was discovered that he had a large, open wound on his back leg. As this shelter, like so many others, was sitting above capacity, once Jason's stray hold was completed, he was placed on the list to be euthanized. This handsome guy was incredibly lucky as he was pulled at the last minute by another rescue. Although they knew that Jason would need to be transferred to another rescue, this group knew that Jason deserved every opportunity to move forward safely. 

Jason was fortunate to have been in a foster home for a few months before moving into the MAGSR family. During this time he was able to begin receiving the medical support needed to start the healing process. With debris cleaned out of his leg, medication provided, and six weeks of rehab in place, Jason's leg healed nicely allowing him to return to regular activities and playtime. Having endless opportunities to socialize with other large dogs, Jason greatly enjoys play time. He has an active and enthusiastic play style. However, we have learned that he gets a little too excited about cats and farm animals. He will not be placed in a home with these creatures. Having lived in a home, Jason has begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a household. He is housebroken and crate trained. As is true of all dogs, Jason will need time to adjust to the expectations, structure, and routines of his forever family. With time, patience, and leadership, we know he will succeed. As Jason moves forward, training will be key to his success. Training will not only help Jason create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. 

Unfortunately, we have learned that Jason is heartworm positive. This prognosis could have been prevented if Jason has been provided with monthly preventatives. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR knows that Jason is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Jason's treatment. Beautiful Baxter and his buddy, Ella, were beyond adored by his dad. They were the perfect little family. It is clear that Baxter's dad went above and beyond to ensure he was safe and loved. Although his dad had planned to care for Baxter until the day he crossed the bridge, unfortunately, things didn't work out as planned. Baxter's dad passed away a few months ago. Baxter and his buddy, Ella, stayed close to their dad until the very end. Knowing his furry babies would be safe and loved, Baxter and Ella's dad was able to cross over. Family members stepped up to help but recognized that they could not provide Baxter or Ella with the life they knew both dogs deserved. To ensure that the dogs moved forward, the family worked with MAGSR to welcome Baxter and Ella into our care promising that we would find them exactly the right match. 

Baxter is a big, handsome, and intelligent guy. Social and well-loved, Baxter has a strong foundation and is quickly learning new skills. Typical of the breed, this good-looking boy is most successful when he exercises both his body and his mind on a daily basis. Treat motivated and very intelligent, Baxter can't wait to start training. Training will be highly beneficial for this boy. Not only will training help Baxter develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen, but it will also help him build a strong and healthy relationship with his new family. Baxter is incredibly lucky to have lived in an amazing home. He is housebroken and well behaved in the house. Not a big fan of toys, but definitely excited to run about in the yard or explore trails, the neighborhood, or new places on leash, Baxter enjoys his time out and out with his people. Although Baxter knows quite a bit about living in a household, as is true of all new dogs, he will need time to adjust to the routines and expectations of his forever family.

Schmidt, like so many dogs, found himself at a crowded shelter as just a baby. Underweight, dirty, full of worms, and malnourished, this little guy was scared and unsure. It was beyond evident that he needed help and fast. Fortunately, a local rescue was able to pull this handsome guy quickly and began getting him some of the critical care he needed to meet with success. With some much needed vetting started and some supportive care in place, the rescue began looking into breed specific resources that could help Schmidt find a safe and loving forever home that would understand and know how to work with a GSD. Shepherds are an intelligent, active, and loyal breed; however, it is understood in the rescue community that they are not for everyone. When asked if we could welcome Schmidt into the MAGSR family, our team immediately came together to provide him with a safe landing. 

Schmidt is a special guy. He has had a rough start, but things are definitely looking up. Living with an incredible foster family, this little guy is soaking in all the love he can. Recognizing the importance of socialization, his foster family is giving him endless opportunities to socialize with new people and other animals. Socialization is critical as it will help Schmidt develop the skills needed to grow into a stable and confident adult. His forever family will need to continue this process. As a young guy, Schmidt is learning the ins and outs of living in a home. He enjoys playing with his foster siblings, puppy toys, and endless snuggles. Making great progress with housebreaking and crate training, Schmidt is a smart little guy. Although Schmidt is an absolute love, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Cashew found himself in a tough situation and was placed with a rescue in the south. He landed in a loving foster family where he settled in nicely with his foster mom. From time to time, her grandchildren would visit and Cashew was delighted by their presence. Although Cashew was doing well with his foster family, when a family emergency arose, he needed to find an alternative placement. Foster families are incredible, but they are not always as easy to find as we would hope. Without another foster available, once again Cashew found himself in a tough situation. Knowing that this guy needed another option, the rescue reached out to MAGSR to transfer Cashew into our care. We welcomed Cashew to the MAGSR family and did not look back. 

Cashew is a big, intelligent guy. Very typical of the breed, he prefers slow introductions and clear expectations. He is most successful with a calm, confident, and experienced handler that will set him up for success. Initially more comfortable with women than men, Cashew is working with our volunteers to develop confidence and boundaries. Training will go a long way with this guy. Not only will training help Cashew develop the skills he needs to become a good canine citizen, but it will also help him build a strong, healthy, and lasting relationship with his forever family. As is true of all GSDs, Cashew is looking for a forever family that will provide him with structure, routine, and leadership. Allowing him time to decompress and adjust in his new home will help Cashew meet with success. Handsome Kai and his sweet buddy, Kash, were absolutely adored by their family. Having grown up in a loving home, these boys had everything they needed and thrived. Unfortunately, when a new member joined the household, a severe allergy developed. Kai and Kash's family worked with doctors to address this allergy so that the family could remain together, but these measures proved unsuccessful and the boys were moved to a separate part of the home. Although they still received as much attention as possible, a complete separation was necessary in order to keep everyone healthy. The family remained this way for some time; however, they knew this wasn't fair to Kash and Kai. Recognizing that the boys would need to be rehomed for everyone's safety and happiness, Kash and Kai's family reach out for help. This was not an easy decision, but it was the best option to help the boys move forward. Knowing both Kash and Kai were incredible dogs that deserved a safe option to move forward, they were welcomed to the MAGSR family.  

Kai is a friendly guy who has a definite cuddly side. An incredible velcro dog, this boy loves being close to his people and makes an incredible shadow. Having a strong love of the outdoors, Kai is beyond happy to get a good long breath of fresh air, sniff the flowers, and go on an adventure. Daily opportunities to run around outside, go for a walk, and enjoy being in nature bring him endless joy. Although he has been socialized around other dogs, Kai is most content with his buddy, Kash. He would be more than happy settling into his forever family with Kash at his side. Having lived in a GSD savvy home, Kai has learned the ins and outs of living in a household. He is house-broken and crate trained. However, as is often true with the breed, he will chew on things that are left in the crate with him. Crate safe items only please! Although this family was clearly very sweet, no one stepped forward to help them. As shelter numbers everywhere are at astronomical rates, Momma Starlight and her babies were at significant risk of being euthanized as owner surrenders are typically the first to cross. Days passed without interest and the family was placed on the list to be euthanized. The rescue community was doing everything they could to help, but with rescues at critical levels finding placement options was very challenging. Fortunately, an incredible rescue close to the shelter was able to secure temp fosters for the family hoping to work with other rescues to move them forward. When asked if MAGSR could be the family's rescue destination, our team sent out a plea for help. We were lucky to have fosters ready and willing to help. Babs and her adorable siblings have been through a lot of changes in a short period of time. However, a resilient group, these babies have maintained some very typical puppy behaviors. They are active, intelligent, and very good with other animals. With a good understanding of toys, treats, and a soft place to relax, all five babies have been lucky to have settled in experienced foster families. Babs is a big fan of toys and loves anything with the baby paper sound. She also seems thrilled to have teething bones to keep those little teeth busy. Still developing their socialization skills, Babs and her siblings will need endless opportunities to socialize with people and other animals in safe and controlled settings. Socialization is critical to their success as this will help them develop into stable adult dogs. With some food drive and a big fan of praise, Babs has already begun developing some basic commands. She knows "sit" already and is learning "down" and "come". Taking treats and food very gently, Bab's foster is hand feeding her to teach bond with the little lady as well as teach additional commands. This lovely lady is quite the student. Her housebreaking and crate training are moving along fabulously. Babs holds it through the night and sleeps well.

Stunning Shep was picked up as a stray in the south and brought to a local animal control. Upon arrival, it was highly evident that this boy needed medical attention as soon as possible. With a severe ear infection and raw, painful paws, and underweight Shep was incredibly uncomfortable and in need of help. Fortunately, the right people heard about Shep's situation and began working with rescue groups to find a temp foster and rescue placement. When asked if we could provide Shep with a rescue option, team MAGSR knew that Shep would make an incredible addition to the family. With an amazing foster family in place, we welcomed this handsome boy to the MAGSR family. 

Recognizing that Shep needed medical support right away, we worked with several groups to ensure he had what he needed. Shep had his medical needs addressed and was placed in a loving home to recuperate. Seeming to understand that this was his chance to decompress and let the healing process happen, Shep took some time to relax and get healthy again. Once he started feeling better, we were able to move him to one of our experienced foster homes where Shep had the chance to start acting like a dog again. An active guy with a high ball drive, Shep's all-time favorite activities involve balls. He will happily chase and mouth a ball for hours. In fact, it seems that he is hoping that his forever family has an affinity for throwing as, in his mind, humans are meant to be his personal throwing machine. Still learning the finer points of playing, Shep still needs some time to further decompress and learn the ins and outs of appropriate play. This guy is looking for an active family that will provide the structure, routine, and expectations needed to meet the needs of a headstrong shepherd. He would likely be happiest with a job, like nosework, or an activity, like treibball. With a little refinement, Shep would likely excel at Rally or flyball! Living in a foster home, Shep is learning the ins and outs of living in a home. He is learning to crate train and housebreak. He is also learning about the general routines and expectations of living in a GSD savvy home. Precious Poseidon is one of the lucky dogs who has lived in an incredible household where he has been cherished. Although his family adored this big, handsome guy, when circumstances changed, his family began searching for rescue placement so that Poseidon could move forward safely with an amazing family that would love him. Surrendering a member of the family is never an easy decision. It is not a choice that any family comes to lightly; however, Poseidon's family knew that it was in his best interest to say goodbye. We promised that we would do everything we could to ensure that Poseidon found an incredible match. 

Intelligent, social, and clearly a stunning guy, Poseidon (Psy) embodies many of your typical GSD traits. Curious about his environment while also very aware of his surroundings, Psy, like most shepherds, doesn't miss a beat. He is capable, engaging, and protective when he needs to be. An active guy, Psy greatly enjoys getting out and about on a daily basis. True of most shepherds, Psy does best when both his body and his mind are exercised on a daily basis. This helps him maintain stability. Having always lived in a pack, Psy is looking for a home that has another dog. He thrives in this environment and is not successful without canine companions. However, as is true of all new furry family members, Psy will need time to build solid and lasting relationships with his new pack members. Time, patience, training, and opportunities to meet with success will help him adjust to his forever family. Psy already knows many of the ins and outs of living in a household. He is housebroken and crate trained, but does prefer a stronger crate for safety. With routine, structure, and leadership, Psy thrives in the household. Beautiful Bailey was adored by her family. They knew she was a special girl and ensured that she had endless love, attention, and plenty of toys. However, when an unexpected event took place, they were unable to keep Bailey and provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that we would provide Bailey with everything she needed to meet with success, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to the MAGSR. Knowing this was a very difficult decision, we promised we would find Bailey the perfect forever family. 

Bailey is an active, intelligent, and playful girl. She loves her people fiercely and gives them every ounce of affection she has. With some very strong GSD traits, Bailey is loyal, protective, and on point. She tends to notice everything around her and keeps an eye on her people at all times.  As a girl with a high prey drive, smaller creatures can be a little too enticing for Bailey. She finds joy in chasing small creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, and will need to be monitored closely if they are out and about with her. Fond of the outdoors, Bailey is always up for a long walk, hike, or adventure. She takes cues well from the handler and knows many commands. Lucky to have lived in a loving household for a few years, Bailey has developed a solid understanding of and appreciation for toys; she is hoping her forever family enjoys them too! She loves to play ball and can't help but enjoy a good squeaky toy. With a few years of experience living in a home, Bailey has also developed an affinity for a soft bed. She loves cuddling up on her dog bed and doesn't mind having a dog bed or two in the house just to change up viewpoints throughout the day. Although Bailey is crate trained and housebroken, once settled, she prefers to be out and about. This seems to keep her more settled throughout the day. As is true of all shepherds Bailey will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Providing clear boundaries and expectations will help Bailey meet with success. Bailey has already completed some basic training; however, she is always up for more! Continued training is essential to Bailey's success. Charming Chapo was picked up by another rescue last year in the Spring. The rescue that pulled him knew that this handsome guy was in desperate need of rescue support. Although they didn't have many options for him, they knew that if they kept him safe, they would be able to find a breed specific rescue that would be able to help Chapo move forward safely. Fortunately, they were able to provide Chapo with temporary placement where he thrived. Knowing that Chapo was a great dog but wasn't in the right situation to move forward, inquiries were sent out so that Chapo could transfer to a rescue with more options. When MAGSR had a few openings at the beginning of the year, our team stepped forward to offer this handsome guy the opportunity to find an incredible match that will love him for a lifetime. 

Chapo is a handsome boy with some good energy. A gentle soul, this boy is friendly but a little hesitant with new people and new situations. Having moved about so many times already, this sweetheart will need some time to decompress and settle into his forever home knowing that he will never need to look for a family again. True of the breed, Chapo will be most successful in an environment where structure, routine, and leadership are present. This will help him adjust to his forever home and develop the confidence he needs to meet with success. Training will go a long way with Chapo. He already knows several commands. It is highly evident that Chapo was socialized with people and other animals along his journey. However, we do not have any information about his life prior to his arrival in rescue. The St. Pat's Litter - Guiness, Seamus, and Gem - was born to a less than reputable breeder at the beginning of the year. Interested in selling the babies for money and not interested in seeing anything more than a paycheck, many backyard breeders and puppy mill owners feel that once puppies have reached twelve weeks, they are no longer of worth. As the puppies lose their worth in the eyes of their owners, many are inhumanly killed without a second thought. The St. Pat's litter was in the same situation as so many babies that have lost their lives due to greedy and inhumane practices. They had reached twelve weeks and the decision was made to end their lives with a shotgun. As luck would have it a good samaritan found out about the St. Pat's litter and knew she had to try to save them. Recognizing they had hours to live, she worked with the owner to have all three babies surrendered to MAGSR. 

Gem and her siblings - Seamus and Guiness - are beyond adorable. Although they grew up in less than ideal circumstances, these babies are sweet and social. With MAGSR's support they have moved into incredible foster families that have been showing them what true love looks and feels like. With daily opportunities to socialize with people and other animals, these babies have begun to receive the care and attention that they have deserved since they were born. Learning the ins and outs of living in a home, these babies have begun housebreaking and crate training. They are also learning the joy of endless toys, a comfortable bed, and nice full bellies. It is important that their forever families continue to provide them with opportunities to learn, socialize, and develop the skills needed to develop into stable adult dogs. Siber was originally part of the Molly's Hogwarts litter a couple years ago. These babies and their mommy, Molly, were confiscated from a cruelty and neglect situation. Fortunately, MAGSR was able to place the family in foster homes so that they could find incredible families that would love them for a lifetime. Siber was adopted as a puppy and has lived with a family for the past two years. Recognizing the importance of providing him with rules and boundaries, Siber's family made sure that he learned the ins and outs of living in a household and gave him opportunities to meet with success through training. Although they adopted Siber with the intent to provide him with a forever family, sometimes things do not work out the way we planned. When Siber's family could no longer provide him with the daily routines, exercise, and care he needed to meet with success, they contacted MAGSR knowing we would find him an incredible home. 

Siber is a stunning guy. Tall, lanky, and intelligent, this boy has typical young GSD energy and is not a couch potato. With high ball drive and a love for playing fetch, Siber is looking for a forever family that is happy to keep their throwing arm in good shape. As an active guy, Siber will need a family that will exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. This will help him develop the stability and confidence all GSDs need to meet with success. Having recently moved out of what he considered his forever home, Siber is currently a little lost. Our volunteers are working with him to help him move forward. He does best when given some time and patience to adjust to new people and situations. Continued socialization in controlled settings with new people and new environments is key to his success. Siber is looking for a forever home that will provide him with structure, routine, patience, and leadership that all GSDs need. He is hoping that an experienced GSD household will provide him with the tools needed for success. Food and toy motivated, Siber knows his perfect family is just waiting to meet him. Stunning Nola was born in a breeding operation. Having learned about her situation, a good samaritan stepped forward and rescued Nola and two of her brothers promising to find them safe and loving forever homes. Although the boys found safe homes in which to move forward, sweet Nola struggled to find placement. Knowing that Nola would likely be more successful if placed within a breed specific rescue, her caregiver reached out to MAGSR for help. Fortunately, one of our incredible foster families stepped forward to support Nola enabling us to welcome this little bundle of joy into the family. 

Nola is playful, affectionate, and social. With a joyful personality, Nola has been bringing daily smiles to her foster family. With regular opportunities to socialize with other dogs and people, Nola has filled her foster home with giggles and endless happiness. Living with an experienced household, this lovely little lady has begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a household. She understands the importance of structure, routine, and an endless pile of toys. As is true of all dogs, training will go a long way with Nola as it will help her develop the confidence and stability needed to become a good canine citizen. Although this little lady is beyond adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics. Tate was purchased as a puppy and brought home into a loving family. He was happily surrounded by women and did very well with all of them. Unfortunately, when circumstances changed, it became clear that Tate would need to be rehomed. This is never an easy decision. However, Tate's family knew it was in his best interest. So, they surrendered him to MAGSR asking us to find their handsome boy a phenomenal forever family. 

Tate is a big, active, intelligent guy. Having said goodbye to his family and his home, he is a little rattled by the recent changes in his world. He knows he's a good boy, but he doesn't understand why things have changed or if he did something wrong. Our volunteers have been working with Tate to help him adjust to his new circumstances. Like many new dogs in the rescue, Tate will need time, patience, and structure as he adjusts to his new surroundings. He gravitates towards handlers that provide clear rules and expectations. This is helpful as Tate enjoys consistency. Although he arrived with some commands already in place, continued training will help him meet with success. Not only will training help Tate develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, it will also help him build the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. 

Tate has had the benefit of living in a home. He understands many of the ins and outs of being an inside dog. Housebroken and crate trained, this guy is past the basics. However, as is true of all new dogs, he will need time to learn the expectations and routines of his forever family. Sometimes when it seems like everything is going wrong, the world shifts, the stars align, and things start improving. This situation reflects Mini Cooper's journey. This handsome guy was noticed as a local stray by an experienced group of rescuers. Lost, confused, and hungry, Mini Cooper wasn't sure if the people who had noticed him were there to help or to hurt him. So, he remained aloof and watched from a safe distance. Recognizing that this boy needed help and fast, particularly with the cold weather we have been experiencing, his finders worked together to safely trap Mini Cooper. Once safe, they brought him to a local shelter where he waited patiently for his family to come and claim him. Although Mini Cooper took this time to decompress and begin recognizing that most people are kind, no one stepped forward for this guy. As numbers are at critical levels at many shelters, once his stray hold ended, Mini Cooper was added to the list to be euthanized. Knowing this boy deserved a chance at a loving home, the same finders who originally rescued Mini Cooper reached out to MAGSR for help. How could we possibly say no to such a good boy? 

Mini Cooper is a sweet guy, young, and engaging guy. Wiggly with his people, this guy is happy to be safe and in a loving foster home. He is happily lapping up as much attention as possible from his handlers. Having been through so much over the last month, Mini Cooper is hoping for some consistency as he moves forward. He will thrive in a home with structure, routine, and leadership. We know he cannot wait to be in a forever home of his very own. Unfortunately, we do not know anything about Mini Cooper's past, but we do know his future is bright. Living in a household may be a new, but very welcome adventure for Mini Cooper. Sweet Snow was pulled from an overcrowded shelter over a year ago by another rescue. She had given birth in the shelter and was kept there while the puppies still needed her. However, once the pups were old enough they were adopted and Snow was left behind. As is true for entirely too many mommies in shelters, once the puppies found forever homes Snow was added to the list to be euthanized. Puppies, when healthy, often find their way home, but older family members are left behind. With shelter numbers in the critical ranges everywhere, this means many of the moms and dads left behind do not make it out alive. 

Fortunately, another rescue stepped forward just in time and saved Snow's life. They walked her through heartworm treatment and got Snow all of the vetting she needed to meet with success. Although they thought they had found the perfect home for this pretty girl, unfortunately, she was returned when a serious medical condition was discovered with her adopter. Knowing Snow would be most successful with a breed specific rescue, we were asked to transfer Snow into our care. Knowing this special momma was the right fit for the MAGSR family, our team welcomed her without a second thought. 

Snow is an adorable girl. Happy, playful, and a bundle of joy, Snow keeps our volunteers smiling from ear to ear. Well socialized with people and clearly comfortable having been exposed to other dogs, this momma has an amazing personality that she can't wait to share with her forever family. True of so many shepherds, Snow reads the handler well. With clear routines, expectations, and leadership, this lady settles in nicely. Having lived in a home, Snow understands many of the ins and outs of living in a home. However, as is true of all new dogs, Snow will need time and patience to adjust to her forever family. Training will be essential to her success. Handsome Beta is an intelligent and active guy. He has been adored by his families, but due to circumstances beyond his control, this boy has bounced around more often than we would hope. Recognizing that Beta deserved a home that would understand his breed and his needs, his most recent owner decided it would be best if he was placed with a breed specific rescue. So, when she could no longer provide Beta with the kind of home that she knew he deserved, she reached out to MAGSR for help. Our team knew that Beta was the right match for the rescue and welcomed him to the family. We promised that we would find this guy an incredible forever family that would love him for a lifetime.  

Beta is in many ways your typical GSD teenager. He takes in the world around him, loves to keep his nose busy, and doesn't miss a beat. Having bounced around a bit, Beta likes to take a minute to adjust to new people and new environments. However, with a tasty treat he warms up quickly. Beta enjoys a bone to gnaw on and will happily smile and wait for something special. Having participated in some basic training, Beta knows a few commands, but will benefit from training. Not only will training help Beta create a healthy and lasting bond with his forever family, it will also help him develop the skills he needs to become a good canine citizen. Having lived in a household, Beta understands many of the ins and outs of living in a home. He is already housebroken and he adores his crate. Structure, routine, and leadership go a long way with this guy. Typical of young shepherds, Beta has a lot of energy and will require a family that can address his needs for exercise, training, and stimulation on a daily basis. A smart guy, Beta picks up new concepts quickly. However, as is true with many young dogs he can get distracted and needs to learn to stay on point.
