"Once a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog"
That's our philosophy and we take it very seriously. We promise each and every dog in our care a better life, even if it is to live out their golden years.
This Halloween season, MAGSR has several senior dogs that we are trying to provide the best golden years, which lately, has included expensive vet bills for many of our pups.
Learn more about the MAGSR Seniors your donations help: Stella, Saxom, Rocky, Ivy, Shotsy, and Kratos,
While the pups cannot have Halloween chocolate, you can give a senior dog the gift of living out their golden years full of comfort and joy. For some of our older dogs, this might be their last holiday, but you can help make it unforgettable. Your kindness provides medication/supplements, special food/supplies, and specialized care that can make all the difference to a dog in need. Donate today and help us show them what love and comfort feels like. Stand by our motto with us, because after all, once a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog, no matter what.
Without further ado, we would love to introduce you to a few of our seniors in need:
đ»StellađŸ
Stella found her match several years ago. Her mom welcomed this extraordinary girl into her heart and never looked back. An incredible pair, Stella and her mom had a special understanding of each other. When Stella's mom started getting sick, family members stepped in to help out. Stella found comfort in her family, but missed her mom. Recently, it was determined that Stella's mom needed some extra help and would no longer be able to live independently. Recognizing that Stella could not move into a facility with her mom, a heartbreaking decision was made - Stella would need to be rehomed. Knowing we protect our own, her family called MAGSR and asked for help. We knew this was not an easy decision for Stella's family. But, we promised we would care for this senior lady and ensure she had everything she needed. Miss Stella has become one of our commitment dogs. As a senior girl, Stella receives extra love and care -- Her daily routine includes joint supplements, anti-inflammatories, prescription food, and injections every three weeks to ease her arthritis. Stella underwent several big appointments over the last month and it was found that she has a large mass on her liver and another mass on her kidney. She is now in hospice care and her incredible foster family is making sure she has as many treats as she wants. Of course, she has plenty of comfy beds throughout the house to nap and relax on. Intelligent, resilient, and proudâStella is nothing short of impressive, and her foster family couldnât be more in love with her.  Learn more about Stellaâs story
đŹSaxomđŸ
Mr. Saxom is a truly special guy with a big heart and an even bigger spirit. He first arrived in MAGSRâs care a few years ago after tragedy struck â his familyâs home was lost in a fire. MAGSR stepped in to give him the second chance he deserved, and Saxom found a family who adored him. Although we always hope every adoption is forever, sometimes life takes unexpected turns. And at MAGSR, we stand by our promise: âOnce a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog.â When Saxom recently needed to come back to us, our team made sure he had a safe and loving foster home waiting. Upon his return, it was discovered that he had developed perianal fistula, a chronic inflammatory condition more common in German Shepherds. While this condition requires ongoing care and daily medication, our amazing team and his devoted foster family are committed to keeping Saxom comfortable and happy. Despite his medical needs, Saxomâs joyful spirit shines through every day. He loves his toys â especially his ball â and his foster family keeps the toy basket well-stocked to make sure playtime is never missed. As a senior gentleman, he enjoys a good balance of fun and rest, curling up on a cozy bed for pets and relaxation between play sessions. Saxomâs care does come with significant costs â his medications, specialized food, and regular vet check-ins are all part of ensuring he stays healthy and happy. Learn more about Saxomâs story
đ»RockyđŸ
Rocky is the epitome of "Once a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog". Rocky and his buddy, Misty, were adopted from MAGSR a few years ago by an amazing family. They were cherished beyond words and have known the power of love. Sometimes life throws a curveball and things change in an instant. When an unexpected circumstance arose, their family knew that Rocky and Misty needed a safe place to land. So, they contacted MAGSR. Knowing these dogs were lucky to have an incredible family that would do anything for them including giving them up, we immediately welcomed both Rocky and Misty back to the MAGSR family. Misty has since been adopted by an incredible family, however Rocky remains available, but has developed some medical complications along the way as he has aged. Rocky has required multiple minor surgeries for removal of non-cancerous growths. This boy has remained brave through many vet visits and procedures, but has required medications to keep him comfortable through it all. MAGSR is committed to keeping Rocky comfortable and as healthy as possible as he navigates through his health journey. Learn more about Rocky's story
đIvyđŸÂ Â
Ivy arrived in our care requiring a lot of vetting.  Ivy is gentle, affectionate, and slowly learning the joys of being a beloved companion. She enjoys short walks, tasty treats, and has recently discovered the magic of dog beds. She is living with an incredible medical foster learning about all of the joys and love that comes with living in a home. But Ivy's medical journey is far from over. Upon arrival, she was diagnosed with:
- Severe arthritis in her front left leg, causing her significant pain and lameness
- A skin infection requiring treatment before other procedures could take place
- Ulcerated tumors and masses on her chest and belly
- Underweight frame, which needed to be addressed before surgery could commence
This week, Ivy bravely underwent a complicated hysterectomy, had several masses removed, and began treatment to address her discomfort. Radiographs of her joints and chest were taken to determine the extent of her needs. Consultations with specialists also took place. At this time biopsy results are pending, and more invasive care may be needed. Despite everything, Ivy remains calm, loving, and endlessly patient â a true testament to her spirit. She is wearing her surgical pajamas like a champ, is adjusting to the cone and prong collar, and has been very patient when going through daily clean up and care. Learn more about Ivy's story
đ»ShotsyđŸ
No one knows exactly what Shotsy went through prior to his arrival at animal control. We do know that people were not always kind to this big guy. Picked up as a stray, Shotsy was brought to an animal shelter that was sitting at critical capacity. The minute he walked in the door, he was in grave danger, especially being a senior dog. With limited resources, extreme overcrowding, and a wealth of new sights, smells, and sounds, Shotsy was overwhelmed and wasn't showing well in the shelter environment. As a result, when his stray hold ended, Shotsy was moved to the list to be euthanized. At the last second, an incredible couple pulled Shotsy hoping to help him move forward. Upon Shotsy's arrival to MAGSR, we discovered he was experiencing pain in multiple joints. We learned that Shotsy has severe hip dysplasia, but is unfortunately not a surgical candidate. He requires daily medication and care for the rest of his life in order to manage his pain and discomfort, as well as weight management to keep the pressure off of his joints. Learn more about Shotsy's story
đŹKratosđŸ
Kratosâjourney hasnât been an easy one. Found as a stray in a tough area, this gentle soul arrived at the shelter emaciated, heartworm positive, and fighting a heavy load of parasites. Sadly, with limited resources, the shelter couldnât provide the care he needed, and Kratos soon found himself at risk of euthanasia. When a second and final plea for help went out, Team MAGSR couldnât say no. Thanks to an incredible network of rescuers, an amazing foster family, and a compassionate veterinary team, Kratos finally made it to safety and began his long road to recovery. Now part of the MAGSR family, Kratos is learning what it means to be safe and loved. Though he has clearly known both kindness and pain, he remains gentle and trusting. Unfortunately, Kratos still has a long way to go. Right now, our focus is helping him gain weight and clear his system of parasites before tackling his other medical needs. But with the support of our community, we know heâll get there.
