Description
THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL POSTING FOR PRISCILLA BEFORE SHE WAS ADDED TO THE PAIR LISTING FOR ELVIS & PRISCILLA (https://magsr.org/node/8890/)
Elvis and Priscilla were abandoned by their family. Fortunately, when a good samaritan found them, they moved quickly to get this special pair help. Elvis and Priscilla were brought to a local shelter where staff immediately began addressing their needs. Underweight, under-socialized, and lacking vetting care, shelter staff recognized that Elvis and Priscilla would need some extra support to move forward. When contacted to see if we could help this pair find their forever home together, MAGSR was happy to step up.
It is highly evident that Elvis and Priscilla have not always been treated kindly by people. They will need time to warm up to new people and situations. As is true of all shepherds, Elvis and Priscilla will thrive in a home that will provide them with structure, leadership, and patience. Fortunately, this special pair are living in an amazing foster home where they are learning that humans can be kind and gentle. This is also giving them the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of living in a household as we do not know if this is a new experience for this pair. As Elivs and Priscilla have begun to get the vetting care needed to move forward, we have learned that Elvis is heartworm positive. His entire treatment will be handled by MAGSR. Although this will mean that Elvis will need to take it slow for a little while, once his treatment is completed he will be back to full strength. As they have a special bond, Elvis and Priscilla are looking for a home with room for two. If your household sounds like the right match for this sweet pair, please ask to meet them today.
Updates
Both Elvis and Priscilla are very much young and very playful. They do have basic command training (sit, stay, down, no, come). They also do their personal business as soon as you let them outside - then they like to sniff around a bit. They eat right away and do not try to eat each other's food. They take snacks gently, Elvis waits his turn but Priscella wants to have her nose in everything so she has to be put in a stay and reminded that it isn't her turn yet. She is learning, but it will take some time. They are a work in progress on the Leash - not sure they were ever on one before. We have been working on this but it is still an experience. At night, they sleep in my room on the floor next to the bed. When I'm outside (in the front yard) they are free in the house and there have been no issues. When I picked the dogs up I was told that Priscilla would do her business in the space she slept in - since being here she has had no accidents. They let me know if they need to go out - we are working on a schedule.
They both show signs of being treated very harshly. If you raise your voice Elvis slinks away, Priscilla, cowers and acts as though she is going to be hit. We are working to change these behaviors but that will take time and earned trust. They both cower when there is a loud bang/crash and if the person has a tool in their hand. Priscilla, although scared, is still so young that her curiosity wins out and you can show her the item and she will sniff the object from all sides and be okay. Elvis will be okay once Priscilla has accepted it. When Priscilla gets really scared she hides behind or under Elvis. They are truly bonded and depend on each other for the other's strengths to their own weaknesses.
Priscilla is a real talker - never seen anything like it. She will stop if you ask her to - sometimes it does take more then once, especially if she is sassing you.
I'm currently working from home and most of the day they both spend sleeping at my feet or within sight. They love to be on camera during conference calls - but quickly return to sleeping. They just want to please you and get rubs and hugs and an occasional snack is good. They haven't shown any interest in toys or balls I would think that would change with time. Elvis and Pricilla are both beautiful and loving dogs that just want love and attention, they are waiting patiently to find a home together where they can be the apples of their owners' eye, could that be you?!
