Darlington
ADOPTED 01/31/2020!
Good With Kids: Older Kids Only
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
One of the largest puppy mill busts found hundreds of German Shepherd's living in absolute filth and in horrendous condition. Ankle deep mud and feces mixed with urine, no adequate shelter, lacking food and clean water is how these dogs were left to live, many for years. The urgent call was made and MAGSR knew we had to take in as many as possible. We now have 38 dogs that have a multitude of medical needs that we are addressing, and they need to learn to trust humans. All dogs are scared, some are shut down, but our volunteers and vets will get them on their road to recovery. It will be awhile before these dogs are ready for adoption, so please be patient and watch for updates.
An undertaking of this size for an all-volunteer rescue is quite a task, but one we are meeting it head on. Many of the dogs require medical boarding so that they can receive the best possible care. We are committed to providing everything they need, not only medically, but emotionally. Our medical costs are going to be at an amount we have never seen before. We need your help, the dogs need your help. Please donate , your donation will go towards their ongoing care, medical needs, emotional needs and help them on their road to recovery and a brighter future.
Updates:The GA 38 arrived in MAGSR’s care in early/mid January 2019 and over the past two months, their transformation has been nothing short of amazing. These 38 broken souls knew nothing but a life of filth, hunger, and abuse. Their eyes were filled with the look of fear, emptiness and uncertainty. They cowered in the corners of their runs and tried to be as far away from humans as possible and MAGSR volunteers knew they had quite a challenge ahead to right the wrongs of their past prior to arriving in MAGSR's care. MAGSR volunteers stepped up & took on the challenge head on. And now, two months later, through the endless work of dedicated volunteers that have selflessly given their time, patience and love, these beautiful creatures have begun to meet us with tail wags, lean-ins as we walk with them, and most importantly, where once there was emptiness and fear in their eyes, it’s clear those memories have been replaced with hope and even a bit of curiosity. Their wounds have healed, their bellies are full and they have learned that all humans aren’t so bad. They are greeting us at the front of their kennel runs now eager for treats and walks. All of them have learned to walk on a leash and we are beginning some basic obedience with them such as "sit", "heel" and “watch me.” They are now used to being handled regularly for normal things such as baths, getting their weights taken, and taking their monthly preventatives. Best of all, volunteers are seeing their unique personalities and social side come out with other dogs. Just a few months ago, they were all fighting for the same food and water and ability to stay alive but today, many have completely let down their guard and are comfortable enough to engage in play and/or positively interact with other dogs. All of these dogs have shown us how intelligent and resilient they are and have made significant strides in their road of rehabilitation. They are ready for the next chapter of their journey and we hope you may be part of their story.
Hello! I’m Darlington and I can’t wait to share my updates with you! It’s been so much fun exploring new places and I have really enjoyed living in the country. When my foster mom lets me play on the long metal line, I wag my tail, smile, and run with joy. My favorite adventure so far has been a morning hike by the river. I jumped right in and had a ball swimming and splashing in the water. My furry brother showed me how to fetch sticks from the water and that looked like a great game, but for now I just watch and stay close to him. I did great walking calmly by bikers, runners, and many other dogs. When I am outdoors, I am in my element. I’m great in the car and ready to go any time. I only wish that outdoor fun in the mud did not have to be followed by a bath – that just makes no sense, and I have done my best to communicate that. Busy places with crowds of people are not my favorite but I am learning. Meeting people 1-on-1 is better. I am OK with children at a distance, but am still uncertain about meeting them. At home, I am proud of my perfect accident-free record. The house is great but I am still shy, and when I feel insecure, I like to go to my safe space (crate). I don’t mind sleeping there calmly. I keep hearing “sit” and “come” and am still unsure about those, but I know that when I come to my foster parents on my own, I get lots of pets and praise and I really like that. Treats don’t motivate me but I am bonding with my humans and appreciate their affection. I like to watch my furry brother and learn from him too. I’ve been told that I am a very sweet girl. My neighbors come out when they see me walking by to say hello and often tell me that I am lovely. I am just being me. If you would like to meet me, please let MAGSR know!
Darlington is settling in to her foster home nicely. When first taken home, her heart was pounding and she was trembling. Thanks to her foster parents and the resident dog, taking is slow and easy won her over. While in foster, Darlington has been a perfect house guest, sweet and gentle. She’s learning about routines and long walks. Darlington is voluntarily looking to her foster parents for attention which demonstrates the progress she’s making. Darlington’s foster parents are starting to see her playful side, and she has been chill, calm and snuggly in her foster home; however, she still remains a high flight risk. If interested in Darlington, and have the patience and time to help her adjust and learn from her horrible past, ask to meet her.
Ms. Darlington is truly an amazing house guest and wonderful company! It's been wonderful to see her playful side come out, especially with her furry brother. She knows "sit" and is learning the "come" and "stay" commands. She also knows to sit and wait by any entrance and let her person go through first. Her leash-walking skills are excellent in a familiar neighborhood. Busy and crowded spaces still make her anxious, but the more adventures she goes on the more comfortable she gets. This smart girl responds very well to training and direction from her person and is working very hard to learn how to be a confident and comfortable dog. Darlington is distinctive. She has the sweetest and most gentle nature you may ever find. As with any of the Georgia dogs, trust takes time. But when established, she and her adoptive family will experience daily joy together.
Sweet Darlington was returned due to no fault of her own. Her foster family did not hesitate to welcome her back into their home. She’s a wonderful girl. There are a few things we learned about helping her successfully transition to a new home. Darlington’s entire life included the presence of other dogs, which seems to be an essential factor to her wellbeing. In the foster home, she quickly grows attached to her furry sibling(s) and follows them everywhere. The absence of another dog in her adoptive home likely contributed to her becoming withdrawn and stressed. Darlington will be well matched with a family that has a mature and calm dog that she can “mirror” and follow. Although she has come a long way in gaining confidence, she is still shy and can easily become fearful. But, when she bonds with her person and establishes trust, she relaxes and follows their lead in any environment. Darlington is an incredibly gentle and sweet dog, but she is also delicate and sensitive, and trust and confidence do not get built overnight. Darlington asks for patience, calm and confident direction, positive praise, and sincere commitment, which are relatively small requests, given the great potential she has and the charming company she readily provides.
Maya
ADOPTED 01/26/2020!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Maya came to us an owner surrender as her person is going through a difficult time. She is much loved so her mom wanted the best for her. Maya lived with another female GSD. Maya is a young energetic girl who will require someone able to keep up with her energy. She also requires training to learn some manners and leash skills. She is strong and can easily pull someone down without being handled properly. We’ve been told she is good with children, but does have to be monitored due not knowing her size.

Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.

Hayley at 9 weeks old was found as a stray and taken to a shelter. It is so unimaginable that anyone could allow a 9 week old puppy to become a stray and not come looking for her. She is a confident, happy, playful and loving girl, and such a cutie. Life with a puppy involves a lot of work, cleaning up accidents, night time potty walks, stopping her from chewing everything she can get in her mouth, lots of guidance, structure and training. Please be absolutely certain that you have the time, energy and ability to commit to Hayley for her lifetime.

Cessna has been in her foster home for almost a week, and has surprised her foster family with how quickly she has adjusted to her new environment. She has never been in a house before, so at first, the crate, stairs, TV, refrigerator, microwave, drawers, bags etc were all new things to be wary of. Surprisingly, after only a few repeat introductions to these things, Cessna has quickly gotten comfortable around them. She is taking to crate training well, and snoozes in the crate for our 8 hour work day and does well in the crate at night. She has had no accidents in the house or crate and waits until she goes on a walk to go potty. Cessna has also done well with our two cats. She is curious about them, but does not chase and largely ignores them. She is currently making great progress learning "sit" and "come" commands. While Cessna isn't quite sure what to do with herself in the house, when we take her on walks she is in her element. She is an awesome walking companion. She walks in a near perfect heel position, no pulling, takes correction well and is such a fast learner! She is not reactive to other dogs, bikes, or runners we pass in the park. Her favorite thing is to run through the leaves and sniff everything! Cessna would make someone a great walking, hiking or running partner! Like all the Georgia dogs, Cessna has never been in a home or around a loving family. Even so, she readily accepts pets and even runs up to her foster parents to say hi. She has already come a long way and will need owners who will give her time to adjust, lots of love, and the structure and training to help her know how to navigate her new world as a good canine citizen.
Cessna has been making good progress in her foster home. Her foster family maintains a strict daily routine for her with structured walks and being fed in her crate, and this has helped her become much more comfortable in the home. She knows her schedule and will whine softly when she knows it's time for her walk, her favorite thing! She will run up to her foster parents wagging her tail because she is excited to go outside. Cessna LOVES being outside and has lots of energy, so her foster parents think she would do best in an active home that will take her on long daily walks, hikes or runs. Her walking manners have been very good, she doesn't pull, or react to other dogs, she heels nicely, and has been getting good at auto-sitting when her handler stops. She does well with these skills as long as she is working with a strong leader. She would do well with an owner who has previous GSD experience, as well as some basic training experience with an adult rescue dog. In the home, Cessna is still working on being comfortable when outside her crate. She has become less afraid of the TV, and has even recently come out of her crate to sit and lay down with her foster family for a few minutes. When she needs her space, she goes back in her crate, where she is most comfortable. She has surprised her foster parents with her interest in chewing a nyla-bone (often the GA dogs don't have any interest in toys/treats...because they've never seen them before!). She is still doing great in her crate during an 8 hour work day and also overnight, with no accidents or whining. Cessna still needs to work on being around lots of people, as she finds busy bustling environments to be overstimulating and scary right now. She also needs more exposure to riding in the car, as this is still a new, nerve-wracking experience for her. Her foster parents are working with her on these skills, and she is making steady progress! Cessna will need an adopter with lots of patience, love, and strong leadership to show her how best to navigate her home and the world as a good canine citizen.
Bailey
ADOPTED 01/11/2020!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Bailey was surrendered as her family had no time for her and it shows in her lack training and manners. She is such a beautiful, friendly girl that just needs a family to teach her good canine manners. A good training program will teach her jumping up is not acceptable and will also help with her leash skills. Given the opportunity, Bailey will crawl up into her human's lap for loving - she's very sweet. Bailey has some energy to burn that ong walks and a good a game of fetch will help with. Exercising both the body and brain will be very beneficial for her.
Updates:Bailey is a sweet girl and very dedicated to her humans. Bailey likes to be with her humans and will run up and down the stairs to be with each of her humans when they are on different levels of the house. Bailey is a happy go lucky dog and very good with kids. Bailey doesn't know many obedience commands yet but is eager to learn. Bailey is easy to walk, good on car rides, and is house trained – she likes sleeping on doggy beds. She loves belly rubs and attention. If you are looking for a best buddy, Bailey is the one, and she would make a great family dog.
Jasper
ADOPTED 01/08/2020!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Jasper was dumped by his former owner on a country road and picked up by animal control. When our volunteer picked him up from the shelter it was obvious he was not feeling well and not in great shape. He immediately went into medical boarding at one of our vets offices, where he received the best care. He had a severe respiratory and ear infection, hair loss with a skin infection and was not eating. All needed tests were performed and treatment was started. As time went on he was still not wanting to eat, radiographs were taken and it was found he had foreign objects in him. He was immediately taken to surgery where a number of assorted items were removed from his stomach.
After spending 3 weeks in medical boarding Jasper was able to go home with his foster. He is now on the mend, starting to eat on his own and finally wagging his tail some. He still needs to put on some more weight but his foster will be sure he never misses a much needed meal.
Through all of this he has been nothing but sweet and friendly. Jasper is now looking for his forever family, one that will treat him with care and love him for his lifetime. He is ready to leave his past behind and looks forward to a future of living in a home, proper nutrition, walks, playtime and lots of cuddles from his humans.
Updates:Jasper is doing great in his foster home and loves his foster parents. He is such a sweet boy who has come a long way since he came into the rescue. He went from not wanting to eat to sitting and eagerly waiting for his food. Jasper has a great appetite now and has put on some much-needed weight since his surgery. He loves everyone he meets and loves getting attention from everyone too (he’s so darn handsome and friendly, why wouldn’t anyone not want to give this boy some attention). Jasper likes his doggie beds, and if allowed, he’ll get up in the human bed too. Jasper is housebroken and crate trained, and he really loves to go for car rides. Jasper loves his Nylabone, although, his humans must be very careful in the toys selected for him due to his history, and he’s only allowed to have them when supervised. If this lovable handsome boy sounds like a fit for your family, check out his profile and ask to meet Jasper – he just might have a kiss waiting for you.

Regis
ADOPTED 01/04/2020!
Good With Kids: Yes, older kids
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Regis was surrendered to a shelter as his family moved and could not take him with them. He is new to us so we are still getting to know him. He does best with female dogs and prefers them over male dogs. He loves belly rubs, rolling over on his back for a good scratching. Regis will benefit greatly from obedience training, learning good manners and what is expected of him.
Updates:
HI! My name is Regis and I LOVE BELLY RUBS! When people come over and start petting me, I roll right over to get some belly rubs! I love to make my rounds to all the volunteers when us dogs are being walked at the kennel to get my share of attention and belly rubs. But that's not my only super power - I walk well on a leash (they say I have a good 'heel', but I didn't know dogs had heels?) and tend to sit when my walker stops. I can sit, down, am working on stay, and I jump right in the car for a ride. It's fun to bark at the passing cars while riding, but I settle down when I'm told to and become a great riding companion! I'm a good boy with the vet, even when I'm not feeling so hot. They say I'm probably house trained, but I don't remember training any houses. They tell me how sweet I am and I love playing with other pups! I do have a little bit of a problem with fast hand movements, I get frightened and bark at them, but we're working on that too. I have tons of energy, and would love to try something like agility or nose work - they also say I have a great sniffer! I would just love to have a family of my own to love and cuddle with, could that family be yours?
Geist
ADOPTED 01/04/2020!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Geist is a male German Shepherd mix with a beautiful white coat. He is new to the rescue, but a super sweet guy. Geist is lovely with the female dogs, but not so great with male dogs. He's simply a nice fella that prefers the ladies to himself. Geist is good with humans and loving. Like all of our dogs, Geist will benefit from standard obedience work to help him be the best gentleman he can be.
Augustus
ADOPTED 12/28/2019!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Augustus was found as a stray hanging out on a person's property. Attempts were made to find his family, but no one came for him. He is a friendly young boy and rides well in the vehicle. He of course is in need of training and manners, a structured home, and a loving and caring family.
Riptide
ADOPTED 12/15/2019!
Good With Kids: Yes, older kids
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Riptide was originally adopted from a shelter, where he then went on to live his life on a chain with not enough food and no shelter. This is why it is so important that anyone wanting to adopt a dog is checked out by shelters and rescues. Riptide was promised a better a life when the shelter adopted him but that is not what he received. That is all changed now that he is with MAGSR, we will make sure he finds a loving and caring family, that can provide him a home, a comfy bed, good nutrition and care. Riptide's name is very fitting, he is a high energy boy that is not sure what to do with new found freedom from the chain. He will need training and structure, along with lots of exercise.
Updates:Unfortunately, Riptide has been returned to us as his adopter fractured her ankle and is non weight bearing. With Riptide’s high energy, she was not able to provide his daily exercise requirements. Riptide was also not doing well with one of their teenage twin daughters. He was fine with one of them. He has been to obedience training, but his new family is required to complete training with him. Training is a great way to learn more about each other, how to work together and create a bond.
Hello there! My name is Riptide. I've gone to two lovely homes now, they loved me, but they couldn't handle my energy. I am so afraid I may never have a home of my own. You see, the first part of my life, I was out on a chain and wasn't shown puppy manners. It seems like all that energy has built up and I've never gotten it out. I have had some training now, so I know sit, down, come and I walk well on a leash. Everyone says I'm a nice boy, I just need a runner, or someone to work me out and train me for cool stuff, things like agility, rally or nose work, or maybe give me another dog to play with so I can get this energy out! They say I'm easy to train because I'm food motivated - I say who doesn't like food? I also love playing in the kiddie pool they have at the kennel where I stay for now, but they said it's too cold now. One lady said something about dock diving, I don't know what that is, but if I get to go in the water, I'm all for it! If you're looking for a pup to do something active with, ask to meet me, you might be just what I'm looking for!
Mack
ADOPTED 12/15/2019!
Good With Kids: Yes, older kids
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Big, handsome Mack is a strong boy. He needs to learn leash manners, as a dog of his size can be difficult to handle on a leash. Mack is such a sweet boy. He has been very friendly with our volunteers. He really seems to enjoy going for drives, as when he sees a vehicle door open he wants to jump in. Mack did spend part of his life tied up on a chain, so he probably needs to learn house manners. While at the shelter he did participate in play groups with other dogs.
Updates:Mack has been with us for a while now and we have learned a lot about him. Everyone that comes into contact with Mack at the kennel loves him and his tail wags! He can be so sweet, and everyone he meets is a friend. He loves car rides and is very quiet when traveling. Mack is very smart and is not only learning better leash manners, but is a very willing participant in learning sit, down, and place - as long as you have a toy or treat to reward his efforts. He will play fetch, and is learning to bring the toy back and drop it on command. Mack is a sweet boy, and can be such a big teddy bear, but he also needs an experienced handler who will provide structure, training and consistent handling so he can learn his place in a home environment and does not try to take over. If you think you have what it takes to offer Mack what he needs to thrive, please let us know, we'll set you up with an introduction!
Mack has been with his foster family for a little over a week and has settled in nicely. Mack listens and sometimes he sleeps at his foster's feet. When Mack gets excited, he gets really excited. When Mack's humans head for the door, Mack runs to the door and jumps around, so he has to be calmed down before taking him out. Once Mack knows to listen, he walks nicely. Mack is very active for a four year old, and sometimes he seems more like a two year old. Mack needs a strong hand to keep him in line so that he will be a good canine citizen. Mack likes sleeping in doggy beds and is both housebroken and crate trained. Mack is becoming a dedicated dog to his foster family. If Mack sounds like he could be a good fit for your family, ask to meet him.
Mack's foster reports he is a very sweet boy and dedicated to his humans. Mack loves attention. When Mack's humans are at the dinner table, Mack goes and lays down until dinner is done. Mack is very treat motivated - knows where his treats are kept and will let his humans know when he wants one. In the evenings, Mack wanders upstairs and jumps up on the bed and lays down, until he hears somebody move and then he comes running downstairs to make sure he doesn't miss anything. At night time, Mack sleeps on his doggie bed all night and does great in the crate when he's in it. Mack is recommended for older kids, but very friendly with everyone. Mack lays down for belly rubs, likes to give paws, is good with other dogs, loves to go for car rides, is easy to walk with a human who is in control of him during the walk. Mack is patiently waiting for his fur-ever home - could that home be yours?
Cruz
ADOPTED 12/15/2019!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Cruz was surrendered as his former family didn’t realize how much time a young, energetic GSD requires. Cruz lived with children and another dog in his prior home. He does need training, this will help Cruz understand what is expected of him, teach good manners and build a bond with his new family. Please be sure you understand that Cruz will require walks, playtime, exercise, lots of love and attention for his lifetime.
Lieve
ADOPTED 12/15/2019!
Good With Kids: Older kids, over 10
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Lieve, along with her siblings Liam and Luc lived outside without proper care or an adequate amount of food for growing puppies. Thankfully they were brought to our attention and brought into our care. They were underweight, but with proper nutrition they have gained weight. The pups are a mix of Dutch Shepherd (dad) and Belgian Malinois (mom). Both of these breeds are very high energy dogs that require a lot of exercise of both their bodies and minds, along with obedience training, ongoing socialization and direction. It is imperative that you have the time, everyday, to work with them on their training and can meet their exercise needs. We will only consider adopters that have prior experience with working line dogs. Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment.
Tank
ADOPTED 12/15/2019!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Tank was taken to the vet to be euthanized because he helped himself to some livestock. Thankfully the vet would not kill such a young and friendly boy, instead she contacted us. Tank is good with other dogs, but will not do well with livestock, chickens or goats especially. Of course he requires training to teach good K9 manners and to learn to work with his new family. Time is needed by his family to help him settle in, learn the rules and to adjust to a new schedule. Tank has had his stomach tacked, this greatly reduces his chances of bloat. He will require daily exercise, walks, lots of love and attention for the rest of his life. He rides well in the vehicle, he enjoys looking out the window and getting a few head rubs. Please be certain you have what it takes for an energetic GSD and are committed for his lifetime.
Chloe
ADOPTED 12/07/2019!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Chloe came to us a surrender as her former owner did not like that she jumped up on her. This of course can be controlled with training and correcting this at the time. She lived in her prior home with other GSD’s and did well. She has not been around children or cats, so we do not know how she does with them. Chloe is a beautiful coated GSD, with the cutest ears. She has been friendly with our volunteers, but unsettled with the changes in her life. She did undergo a 3 week board and train, but her former owner did not attend training with her. Training is just as much about training the owner as it is the dog. You must learn to work together and create a bond.
Chiquita
ADOPTED 12/07/2019!
Good With Kids: Unknown

Chiquita was surrendered to a shelter due to her former person moving. She is a friendly young girl, enjoys the company of other dogs, and is attentive to her family. She needs to gain some weight, but otherwise looks good. Training of course is required, not only for Chiquita but also for her family.

Johnny came to us from a shelter, we have no history for him. Since arriving in our care, he has been a complete gentleman. A little unsure with his new surroundings at first, but has quickly settled in. Johnny is a kind gentle soul and is very gentle with his handler. He enjoys belly rubs, being with his people, staying by his human's side, and will look to his handler for guidance. Johnny is a wonderful boy and anyone would be lucky to have him.
Updates:
Johnny is starting to settle in with our volunteers but is still lacking confidence and trust; however, as he gets to know the people he decides to trust more, he greets them with kisses and tail wags. Because of Johnny's insecurities, he would learn from a home with a confident dog to help show him the way forward. Johnny would also do best with a handler who has prior GSD experience as well to help build his confidence with training and reinforcement. Keep an eye on Johnny's progress and ask to meet him if your home may be a good fit for him.

Liam, along with his siblings Luc and Lieve lived outside without proper care or an adequate amount of food for growing puppies.
Bellair
ADOPTED 11/27/2019!
Good With Kids: Older Kids Only
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Bellair made her way to us from a shelter where she had been surrendered, for reasons unknown. She is new to us, so we are just getting to know her. We know that she prefers the company of male dogs over female dogs. She needs training, consistency and a schedule. Without this she has no idea what her new family expects of her, it is your job to guide and teach her. She is a pretty petite girl, which will make it easier for leash walks.
Updates:We've gotten to know Bellair a bit more since she's been with us. What a pleasure this lady is to work with; it is apparent that she likes to work. She seems to know so many commands but quietly tests out the handler as she works. Once she figures out that you mean business, she handles beautifully. Bellair is clearly food motivated and doesn't require much tension on the leash when a redirect is needed. She corrects quickly and responds nicely when given an activity. She loves balls, and will play fetch, then carry the ball around with her. She has excellent behavior at the vet, she is even good about the thermometer. She is easy to leash up, jumps into the car readily and is a very good car rider. We're also told she's quite cuddly, could you see yourself cuddling with Bellair?
Bellair is enjoying life in her foster home. She has great house manners, is housebroken, and crate trained. She loves, loves, loves squeaky toys, treat-filled kongs and daily walks. She has started group obedience training with her foster mom and is learning that squirrels, rabbits, dogs, and cars don’t need to be chased while walking. Her new family will need to continue training, as Bellair has a high drive and will need a strong leader to help her become a good canine citizen. If Bellair sounds like she coudl be a good fit for your family, ask to meet her - she's a sweet lovable gem.

Tyson is another product of someone getting a dog then not having time for him. Yes dogs need your time, your devotion, your commitment to them for their lifetime. It needs to be a well thought out, realistic decision before getting a pet. Tyson is now looking for the family who has thought their decision through and will commit to him for his lifetime. Yes he needs training and daily exercise. Yes he will try your patience at times and get into things he shouldn’t, but this is where his family comes in. He needs to be taught good manners and he needs obedience training, which his family needs to provide. Be sure you have the time and patience for years to come.

Riley’s prior family gave her up after having her for 6 years as they no longer wanted her. As you can imagine losing her family is upsetting. She just arrived in our care so we are taking the time to get to know her better. Riley is hopeful that her next family will commit to her for her lifetime and not just toss her aside. She is over weight, so a diet and exercise are in order. Her beautiful long coat is matted and dirty but she will be enjoying a spa day.

Bebee was surrendered to us as her former person did not have time for her. Due to the lack of time and commitment Bebee was left to do as she wished. A young dog without training, direction, exercise and guidance can find themselves in unsafe situations. Bebee found herself in one those situations when she was hit by car. Luckily she did not sustain serious injuries. She is now in the safety of rescue starting to learn good manners and being properly cared for. Bebee is somewhat nervous meeting new people, but once she is comfortable with you she is a sweetheart. We were told she lived with another dog and cats, and has spent time with a toddler. As she is new to us, we are still learning more about her.

This handsome pup has not had the best start in life. He has lived outdoors on a chain, not taught manners, leash skills or training. Thankfully someone got him out of the situation and surrendered him to us. He is one busy boy, he will jump on you, he will mouth you, he will pull you on the leash. But with training, structure and direction he will learn to be well mannered. He is still just a puppy at 8 months old, so expect high energy, playfulness, chewing things and all of the antics that come with having a young dog. You absolutely need the time to provide him with daily exercise and structure, at this age he is no couch potato.

Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.

Leia was surrendered to a shelter as her military dad was deployed overseas. She is a large very friendly girl. Leia enjoys her humans and gets along well with other dogs. She is overweight so a diet and exercise are in order. Leia has shown our volunteers that she's up for a game of fetch with a tennis ball and running around and playing with her human.
Updates:Leia is a great girl and doing well in her foster home. She is very friendly with everybody she meets. Leia needs to work on her basic commands, but she listens very well and walks well on a leash, so she's very smart and will get the basic commands down soon. Leia is very well crate trained. She's doesn't much prefer other females dogs or even small dogs, but seems to be very good with cats. Leia loves going outside and could probably use a lot of play time and running around for exercise. Leia follows her humans around the house and likes to stay near them. She loves car rides and belly rubs. She's good with baths and if there's a garden hose, she loves to play in the hose water- she's very funny to watch. If Leia sounds like a good fit for your home, ask to meet her.

Ayayu has been our newest foster for a little over a week now. We are an experienced foster home and our adult dogs are experienced and well socialized. Because of this, we felt that Ayayu would benefit from being with us and our pack. As we had expected and hoped for, we are happy to report that we have seen wonderful emotional growth in her.
Backstory: She, like many of the dogs from the Georgia 38, was not well socialized with people. However, they were socialized with other dogs. She is fairly shy around people and when faced with situations which are of concern to her, she will retreat or go into flight mode. This fearful/flight mode cannot be overstated enough. People that may be interested in her will need to understand her fearful nature. We expect that given time, she will overcome some of this. But it’s possible that she might always be one to flee if confronted with a situation that is scary to her. Her adopter will need to be understand that adopting is not only a lifetime commitment but also a commitment to her life, meaning keeping her safe at all times so that she is not allowed to escape and become lost or even worse.
Fastforward: Since arriving in our home, she is learning all about normal life experiences, sounds, routines, expectations, etc. She’s learning about things like going up and down steps, ringing telephones, TVs, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, just to name a few. She has also learned about routines such as potty time while on leash, when it’s time to go into her crate if we need to leave the house or for her breakfast and dinner. She is also getting her teeth brushed. Her daily life has not been all about the boring and mundane day to day activities. She is also learning (and enjoying) fun things. She is discovering toys and realized she likes people food such as popcorn, Cheez-It’s , etc. She has also discovered the comfort of a nice plush doggie bed and is frequently seen lying on one of many. This past weekend, she got to relax and enjoy the puppy pool and the bigger human pool and we were very proud of her. Ayayu LOVES other dogs and will show her playful side with dogs who will engage in play. Though our adult dogs do not roughhouse, she still loves them and always seeks to be around them. She is starting to seek out attention from us as well and not hide away as much as previously seen. Because she loves other dogs, she gets a lot of her confidence from being around confident dogs by seeing how they go about daily life. Because of this, she must be adopted into a home with a confident, well socialized dog so that she can continue to improve and grow.
Her adoptive home will need to be structured, not chaotic and her adopters will really need to understand a flight risk dog and the potential challenges that come with having one in their home.

Archie came to us after being confiscated for cruelty. Witnesses saw his former owner beating him with a metal baton and the police were called. Archie sustained trauma to his head, which left an open wound to his head along with a fractured frontal sinus cavity. He also has fractured teeth which are being extracted. There were old scars possibly from earlier abuse. Archie received immediate medical treatment for his injuries. Although Archie is a mix breed we could not leave him behind. We welcomed him into MAGSR with open arms as an honorary GSD. Archie is currently residing in medical care under the watchful eyes of vets. So far they have seen no deficits, and he seems to have recovered both physically and mentally from traumatic event. Archie is a fun, friendly, high energize boy. He loves to romp around and play a good game of fetch. He will require a family that can match his energy level in order for him to receive the exercise he will need. Archie is needing a family that will treat him with kindness, that will provide him with a safe and stable home, lots of love and care.
Updates:
Archie is settling right in to his foster home. The x-rays of Archie's head came back all clear and no deficits were noted from the beating. Archie had a number of teeth extracted that were fractured and not good - the vet said they had to be causing him pain. Archie loves his toys and balls and just loves for his humans to throw the balls so he can fetch and bring it back to them to throw again. He especially loves tennis balls and squeaky balls. Even though Archie was in an unhealthy relationship with his prior owner, he has bounced back and is happy, healthy, friendly & affectionate, bouncy, playful and full of tail wags. Archie is ready to meet his new fur-ever family - is that you?

Riana came to us after being confiscated in a cruelty case. Another dog in the home was seen being beaten with a metal baton and the police were called. We do not know if Riana was abused, but she does have recently fractured teeth and had a cut under her eye. She is undergoing a complete exam by one of our vets and will have the fractured teeth extracted if necessary.
She has been in a foster home for a few days now and she settled right in. She is a happy, friendly girl who enjoys the company of other dogs. Riana deserves a family that will treat her with kindness, provide her with love, structure and proper care.
Updates:Riana is settling right in to her foster home. Riana had a number of teeth extracted that were fractured and not good. Riana loves to play and romp around with the resident dogs. Even though Riana was in an unhealthy relationship with her prior owner, she has bounced back and is happy, healthy, friendly & affectionate, bouncy, playful and full of tail wags. Riana is ready to meet her new fur-ever family - is that you?
Riana is proving every day to her foster parents how excellent and perfect she is. She is potty trained, crate trained, sits for attention, walks like a dream on the leash and is incredibly loving and snuggly. She is a dog who wants to please and could fit in with a wide variety of families. Riana does great with the resident dog(s) and matches in energy level and play style. She’s good in the car and in public places and is the perfect lady. Riana is living with a cat and is curious and a little confused. Riana is the sweetest girl and is looking for her fur-ever home. If your home may be a match for her, ask to meet her.

Lincoln came to us from a home where he lived as an only dog and with a single man. He did not have socialization outside of the home, so we do not know how he is with children, cats or other dogs. While in our care he has been in the area of other dogs with no reaction, but he has not been formally introduced to other dogs. He has been friendly with our volunteers and easy to handle with an experienced handler. Lincoln can become protective of his person, this will need to be addressed with proper training and handling. Lincoln enjoys a game of fetch and chasing off squirrels from his yard. We feel it best that Lincoln be adopted by a family that has experience with the breed and their protective trait.

Unfortunately, Alger tested heartworm positive when seen by MAGSR's vet in July when MAGSR decided to test all the GA dogs again because heartworm takes 6 months to show up on the bloodtest. This could have been avoided had he been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives prior to coming to MAGSR. Alger is in the beginning stages of his heartworm treatment, which of course MAGSR will pay for her entire treatment. Treatment is expensive, but Alger is certainly worth the cost. Donations towards his treatment would be greatly appreciated, this would also help us save other dogs with medical needs. He will have to take it slow for the next few months while he undergoes treatment, so lots of rest will be in order.

Riley came to us from a heartbroken family, sadly life did not go as planned. With unexpected changes they had no other option but to surrender her to us. She is very much loved and was well cared for, or as her human dad said she was spoiled.
Riley is such a sweet, friendly girl. She did live with another male GSD and they got along well, and we were told she is good with cats. She loves playing Frisbee and fetch with a ball. Riley is looking for a new family that will love and care for her as much as her former family has. Please open your heart and home to Riley or one of our other dogs.

Chelsea came to us from a shelter, we have no idea how or why she ended up there. She has some hair loss and an ear infection which is being treated. She is now receiving proper care and is on the mend. Chelsea is somewhat skittish when meeting new people, but given time she warms up quickly. Structure, guidance and training will help built her confidence. She absolutely loves the company of another dog, she is very playful and more relaxed in their company.
Updates:Chelsea has been doing very well with younger dogs of her size - she loves to play. Chelsea loves attention and hanging out on her handler's lap with her front paws to get attention. Sometimes, Chelsea is a little shy meeting new people. She loves playing with her toys. She likes her doggie beds, does good when she's crated when her humans are not home. Chelsea is very happy and excited to see her humans when they come home. Chelsea is an active dog and likes to run around and play. Chelsea also sometimes can be her human's shadow in the house and she loves car rides. If Chelsea sounds like someone that may fit well in your home, ask to meet her.

Rosie came to us from a home where she lived with other dogs and children. She is a little skittish when first meeting new people, but soon after she is a playful and happy puppy. Rosie will require training, ongoing socialization, structure, guidance and of course a commitment for her lifetime. Puppies are a lot of work, they get into things they shouldn’t, they have accidents in the home, have lots of energy and require a lot of attention. Please be sure you have the time and patience it takes to raise a well mannered and balanced pup.
Updates:Hi - I’m Rosie! I’m 7 months old and my foster mom says I’m really mature for my age. I am so well-behaved in my crate and yet I am a curious puppy who loves to meet lots of new people and see lots of new sights. I go for walks on my foster mom’s farm, and chase butterflies, grasshoppers, and anything else that pops up out of the grass. I haven’t had any accidents in the house when in or out of my crate, and I happily clean up my breakfast and dinner. I do bark at strangers until I get a chance to meet them up close. I’ve met young children, teenagers, and lots of grown-ups since I’ve been here. While I’m still shy around new people and sometimes worried about sounds I don’t understand, I just need lots of good experiences in and out of the home to make sense of everything that is going on. I can’t wait to meet my forever family, though, and get settled into the life and rhythm of a new home. I will turn out to be the dog of a lifetime for some lucky family, I know!
