Fritzy

Sweet Fritzy once lived in a home with his owner. He enjoyed the life most dogs hope to lead. However, his life changed drastically when his owner became disabled and could no longer properly care for him. Fritzy was placed outside on the property but received little interaction, food, or vetting care. Underlying allergies began to plague Fritzy and his skin became inflamed. Over time this condition worsened, leaving Fritzy with open sores, infections, several areas of missing fur, and underweight. When a couple of good samaritans became aware of Fritzy's situation, they intervened by bringing Fritzy food, clean water, and needed socialization. Although they made Fritzy's world better, they knew that Fritzy needed more. We were contacted to see if we could move Fritzy into our care so that he could be placed in a safe and loving forever home. How could we say no?
Fritzy joined the MAGSR family and has begun to heal. Although he has a bit of a journey ahead of him, we are working with our vetting partners to help Fritzy move forward. With a plan in place, we are honored to have the opportunity to watch him heal and try new adventures every day. As is true of all GSDs, Fritzy is looking for a home that will provide him with structure, routine and consistency. This will help him decompress and build a strong and stable relationship with his forever family. Fritzy will benefit from continued socialization in a structured manner. This will help him continue to learn about the world around him. With time, patience, and a little TLC, we know he will be joy and endless smiles to his forever family. Claire was picked up as a stray in the south. She was brought to an animal shelter where staff members immediately fell in love with this little love bug. Although staff knew that Claire was special and deserved a loving forever family, in an overcrowded shelter Claire didn't have much time. Fortunately, the right people got involved and contacted MAGSR. We were able to work together to pull Claire and keep her safe and loved until she could move up the coast to MAGSR.
Claire is adorable, affectionate and goofy. She loves people and is thrilled to interact with everyone. As a young and energetic girl, Claire is still learning manners and the general rules of living in a home. However, this lucky lady has had the chance to live with a foster family which has helped her start learning the ins and outs of living in a home. As Claire moves forward, she will thrive in an environment with clear structure, routine, and leadership. Training will go a long way with this girl. Not only will it help her develop a healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her become a stable and confident canine citizen. Claire is hoping her forever family enjoys playtime, snuggles, treats, and lots of toys. She knows that the right family is out there and is waiting patiently to meet them. Mikah

Stunning Mikah was loved by her family. However, due to a change in circumstances, they were unable to provide her with the care they felt she deserved. Knowing that Mikah deserved an amazing home that would provide her with a lifetime of love, her owner made the difficult decision to surrender her. We promised Mikah's family that we would find her an amazing forever family.
Mikah is a young, active, and intelligent girl. She is quick to learn new things and responsive to the handler. Typical of most young GSDs, Mikah has a lot of good energy that will need to be burned appropriately on a daily basis. She will thrive in an environment where she has structure, routine, and consistency. Having lived in a household, Mikah has already learned some of the ins and outs of living in a home. However, as is true of any new dog, Mikah will need time to adjust to her forever home. She is a big fan of toys and will happily play with you, but she can also keep herself entertained. As Mikah moves forward, training and continued socialization are essential. Training will not only help Mikah develop a strong and healthy bond with her family, but it will also help develop into a good canine citizen. Mikah is looking for a family that will commit to her for a lifetime, could that be with you?

Axel and his family - Gypsie, Jackie, Genie, Sally, and Birdie - are victims of cruelty and neglect. All six dogs were living in horrific conditions. Chained in shower stalls, living in filth, abused, and starved, they endured unimaginable suffering at the hands of their owner. When word of their situation spread to local authorities, all 6 dogs were confiscated and charges were brought against their owner. Recognizing that these dogs would need significant support, a plea went out to see if they could be moved to the safety of a rescue. MAGSR answered that plea and immediately began working with local groups and animal services to get all six dogs the resources needed (medically and socially) to begin to move forward.
Axel is a young, energetic, and intelligent guy. He is looking for an active and experienced household that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds need. As the only male in the family, Axel seems to have been mistreated more than the other dogs. He can be hand-shy and head-shy, particularly, when fast movements above his head are used. Coming from a situation with little opportunity for affection or interaction with the world around him, Axel is taking every opportunity to explore and enjoy life. He is quickly discovering that people can be kind. Once he knows that you are safe, Axel leans in for head rubs and attention. As is true of all young dogs, Axel will need daily exercise for both his mind and his body. He is already beginning to learn a few basic commands and seems beyond happy to work with his handler. As a food motivated and smart guy, Axel will be the star of training class. Continued training will be an essential piece as Axel moves forward. Training will not only help Axel develop a healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to be a good canine citizen. Continued socialization is also critical for Axel as he has spent his first two years with limited interactions. Providing Axel with opportunities to interact with other people and other animals in a controlled manner will help him develop essential foundational skills that he missed while chained up. Axel already seems to be very social with the dogs in his family. They all seem to seek him out for comfort.
We have discovered that Axel is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have easily been avoided had Axel been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Although treatment is very expensive, this interactive guy is beyond worth the cost. Axel's entire heartworm treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Donations toward his care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help this survivor get all of the care that he needs, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Axel will need to take it easy over the next few months while he completes his treatment. However, this will give him time to learn about the ins and outs of living in a safe and loving home. Updates:Axel has made several strides over the last few months. Lucky to have been living in a loving home, Axel was able to complete his heartworm treatment in the comfort and safety of a household. He can now boast that he is heartworm free and ready to move forward. Crate trained and housebroken, Axel's time living with a family has clearly had a positive impact and helped him make significant strides. This is particularly significant for a dog that had never experienced the joy of living in a safe and loving home. Although still working on a few allergy related skin issues, Axel is moving forward and getting the care and support he needs to continue this process. As training is essential for all dogs, it was decided that Axel would benefit from a board and train situation where he can continue to learn about the world around him and develop a healthy response to new environments and items. Training will also help Axel develop into a stable and confident dog. Although training is expensive, we know that with a solid foundation in place Axel will continue to grow and develop critical skills that will help him moving forward. Axel has been with us in foster for more than a month now and he has really come out of his shell! Axel loves playing ball and long farm walks! Axel loves head scratches and being with his people! Axel is house broken and doing well with his basic obedience! He will soon be a graduate of a four week board and train and has absolutely rocked his training! Axel has continued to build confidence each and every day! Axel is a loyal guy who wants nothing more than to please his people. Axel could be an only dog but would not mind the company of a female friend. Axel should only be placed in a home with children 16 and over as little ones may make him nervous. Axel is doing great with us and Yuki — my wife calls him snuggle bunny. He is calm and walks really well on a leash - and is non-reactive to other dogs (as long as Yuki does not go bananas, then he joins in with a half-hearted woof to be supportive). He has played with Yuki’s BFF, an 8 month old labradoodle, and it was fine. He loves to run in the backyard and to go on walks. And he really loves his meals!

The winter puppies - Stormy, Flurry, and Mittens - were surrendered to a shelter in the south. Although shelter staff knew these little ladies deserved loving homes of their own, they knew these ladies needed immediate help. The shelter was at capacity and owner surrenders are often the first dogs euthanized. Doing everything they could to help these girls move forward, a plea went out for help. When we heard their plea, our team immediately began putting plans in place to help all three girls move forward.
All three little ladies joined the MAGSR family for the new year. Clearly well-socialized, these ladies are friendly, active, and intelligent. It is evident that someone did work with them to provide a foundation for success. Although these little ladies are absolutely delightful, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew on inappropriate things, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics. With structure, routine, and leadership, these girls will develop into the stable and confident dogs we know they are destined to become. MAGSR received a call from another local rescue that a large group of puppies were in need of placement as soon as possible. In total there were 21 pups who would need rescue placement. As this was too many puppies for one group to support, the hope was that we could work together to get everyone into safe and loving homes. With 8 pups finding safety with the other rescue, our team began working together to see if we could find loving foster homes for the remaining 13. Although this was a rather large undertaking, team MAGSR worked quickly to put everything in place. The "Christmas Puppies" - Rudolph, Hermy, Yukon, Clarice, Moonracer, Donner, Vixen, Claus, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, and Cupid - have arrived and are hoping to find forever homes for the holidays.
Having been born in what appears to be less than ideal situations, the "Christmas Puppies" arrived having missed out on early vetting, exposure to new environments, and socialization with people outside their immediate caregivers. Now that they are living with MAGSR foster families, their opportunities are endless. All 13 puppies are going to see our amazing vetting partners so that we can begin vaccinations and make sure that everyone is healthy. In their foster homes, these puppies are learning about toys, treats, regular meals, and the comfort of soft, warm beds. They are also beginning the important process of learning the ins and outs of living in a home. As very intelligent pups everyone is excited to begin. As they move forward, it is critical that their new families provide the "Christmas puppies" with regular socialization with people and other animals. A well socialized pup will become a stable adult. Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, training, patience, and socialization, they will develop into good canine citizens. Updates:Donner's brother, Rudolph, joined the rescue with some unexpected medical needs that have required extra support. He could really use your help.
Working closely with our amazing veterinary teams, Rudolph has begun seeing his regular vet to address typical puppy vetting needs as well as a specialist to address concerns about a preputial defect. Although it is unknown if this condition was congenital or trauma based, Rudolph needs a contrast study and preputial reconstruction in order to correct the defect and help him move forward. When combining Rudolph's presurgical care, surgical consult, contrast study, and surgical reconstruction, his care will cost more than four-thousand dollars. Having been a very good puppy throughout this process, we know that Santa has Rudolph on the top of his "nice" list and is working on finding him the perfect forever family. With surgery scheduled in early December, Rudolph is hoping to be healed for the holidays. Rudolph's care is very expensive, but we know that this special guy is worth the cost. Please consider supporting Rudolph for the holidays and donate to his care. Not only will your support help us get this little lovebug the help that he needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support other dogs with medical needs.

Duke

Handsome Duke was a stray in the south. He was an amazing bus stop buddy to several children in the neighborhood where he was living. Although Duke was a neighborhood favorite, the community knew that this sweetheart needed help. When some trauma occurred that caused a bad tail injury, a family stepped in and found him help with another rescuer. Luckily, she had a space for Duke and welcomed him into her home to help him get the care he needed. As his foster worked with him, she recognized that Duke would be best placed in a rescue so that he could get the care needed to move forward. When MAGSR heard about Duke's story, we stepped in and welcomed him to the family.
When Duke arrived in his foster home, he was in a lot of pain. No one could quite imagine what could have happened to his tail. He had been in the community for a few months being fed by a few local families and showed up one day missing most of his tail and in unimaginable pain. Our first step was to get the pain under control and start antibiotics. Once these pieces were in place, Duke's foster made sure he got to a great surgeon who amputated the remainder of Duke's tail. Although the healing process took time and patience, Duke was an excellent patient. He is now completely healed and ready to move forward.
Good with dogs of all sizes, Duke has enjoyed playtime with his foster siblings. He has clearly learned some social skills even with his difficult beginning. Starting to work on basic commands, Duke is now ready to learn all about being a good canine citizen. Looking for a loving forever home, Duke will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Training will go a long way with this guy. Not only will it help him develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, it will also help him develop into a stable and confident adult dog. Stunning Miss Chloe and her buddy, a great pyrenees, showed up at a dog-friendly household on a chilly September morning. Seeing that the dogs were social and seemed to do well with people if given time to adjust, the home owner began looking for their family. Unfortunately, when the family was found, they made it clear that the dogs were no longer wanted and were not welcome back in their home. Recognizing that both dogs would do best in breed specific rescues, the finder had the dogs surrendered and started working with rescue friends to send out a plea for both pups. Chloe's buddy found placement right away, but many GSD rescues were already over capacity. Word spread that Chloe needed placement. When we heard that this lovely lady needed help, MAGSR immediately welcomed her to the family.
Chloe is in many ways your typical, young GSD. She is active, intelligent, and has endless energy. Motivated and quick to pick up new skills, Chloe has been learning sit, wait, heel, leave it, kennel, place, and recall. It's amazing how quickly she learns. Of course, knowing her treat of choice helps - cheese! As is true of the breed, she will test the handler. A calm and confident handler would be best. Further training will go a long way with Chloe as she already has a foundation to build upon. Training is essential for all dogs as it not only provides everyone with the opportunity to build a strong, healthy bond, but it also helps young dogs, like Chloe, with the opportunity to develop into stable adult dogs. Having had the opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of living in a home, Chloe is both crate trained and housebroken. She is cues with barking when she needs to go outside and takes care of her business quickly. When outside, Chloe is happy to bounce around or simply enjoy the sunshine. She is clearly an adventurous girl who loves the fresh air. She will likely make a great walking or running buddy. Not well socialized with new people, Chloe is good with people of all ages but needs some time to adjust especially when meeting new adults. A slow and patient hand is best during introductions. Although adults take a minute to adjust to, Chloe adores children. Gentle and responsive with the littles, Chloe is definitely a special girl. Having she lived with another dog, Chloe does know some doggy social cues. However, she is most successful with slow introductions to new dogs. When given the opportunity to develop a relationship over time, Chloe does enjoy the company of other dogs, particularly large, male dogs.
