DESCRIPTION:

Momma Bear and her babies, Ash, Autumn, Pumpkin, and Scarlet, were dumped at a shelter. As a shelter is no place for a momma and her pups, calls went out to various rescues to help this family find the safety and comfort of forever homes. As MAGSR has a policy of never leaving families behind, we stepped in and welcomed the entire family into our care until they all find the loving forever homes they so clearly deserve.

In some ways Momma Bear is still a baby herself. She is very young and still has so much to learn about the comforts of living in a home with a family of her own. Although Momma Bear has done a wonderful job raising her pups, it is her turn to be cared for. Unfortunately, Momma Bear has tested heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she had kept her on monthly heartworm preventatives. Momma Bear is in the beginning stages of her heartworm treatment; however, the cost of her entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Momma Bear is certainly worth the cost. Donations toward her treatment would be greatly appreciated as this would help us save her and other families with medical needs. Although Momma Bear will need to take it slow over the next few months, she will be back to full strength once her treatment is finished.

While she works through her treatment, Momma Bear would be most comfortable in her forever home. If Momma Bear sounds like the right pup for your household, please ask to meet her today!

Updates:

Momma Bear is a sweet girl that is looking for someone to love and let her know she is going to be okay.  She craves attention but gets nervous, Momma Bear just wants to be with her human and please you.  She is crate trained, takes food so gentle from your hand and loves going on walks.  She gets so excited her whole body wiggles especially her tail - Ouch.   She loves to play and can be a little rough running around and jumping as she is still learning her manners.  She will be a loyal loving companion.

DESCRIPTION:

Buddy found himself scared, hurt, and alone in a shelter. Although he wasn't entirely sure how he got there, he needed to get out in order to receive the specialized care for an injury to his leg. Fortunately, the staff at the shelter also knew Buddy needed help and quickly. So, they put out a call that MAGSR answered.

Buddy is a young, sweet but timid pup who endured trauma to his back left leg. Although no fractures are apparent, it appears that the joint is dislocated and unstable likely requiring a surgical repair. He is currently living with one of our vets so that he can get the care and attention he needs while he waits to see an orthopedic specialist. Although Buddy's care is expensive, he is clearly worth every penny. Please consider donating to Buddy's care as this will help us not only provide him with the medical support he needs but it will also help us bring other dogs with medical needs into the rescue. As we learn more about Buddy's needs we will post updates.

Lovely Princess was picked up by animal control as a stray. Once safe, Princess waited patiently in a shelter for a family but no one came to get her. Fortunately, the staff at the shelter fell in love with this girl and did everything they could to help her find her way to MAGSR. Princess is a lovable girl. She is intelligent and very food motivated. It takes Princess a little time to adjust to a new environment. However, we all need a little time to adjust to changes. Once comfortable, Princess loves to be with her people. She is a big fan of a good head rub and some treats. Princess is new to the MAGSR family. As we get to know her better, we will post updates. If Princess sounds like the right match for your household, please ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Princess is doing really well. She's very affectionate. She's food driven. Princess crates well and hasn't been vocal. She has shown a playful nature with toys and loves any chews. She and the resident male GSD are politely ignoring each other. Princess helps with the house cleaning by finding anything dropped. Lots of energy and loves walks.

DESCRIPTION:

Bonnie and her housemate Sophie were surrendered to a local shelter when the neighbors started complaining. Although both girls lived in the same household, they are not bonded.

Bonnie is a beautiful, affectionate and driven dog. She is a big fan of the ball and will happily play fetch with her handler. Bonnie previously lived with four other dogs; however, she is currently requiring redirection when in the presence of other dogs. Our volunteers are working with her to teach her to take direction from the handler rather than try to control her environment. With consistency and an experienced handler, Bonnie will be the exceptional companion we know she is destined to become. As is true of all shepherds, Bonnie will benefit from training as it will not only help her bond with her new family but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. Bonnie is looking for a family that will commit to her for a lifetime. If she sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Bonnie today.

DESCRIPTION:

Scarlet is one of the Momma Bear's sweet puppies. This lovely family found themselves at a shelter where no one came to claim them. Along with her mother and siblings, Ash, Pumpkin, and Autumn, Scarlet made the long journey to MAGSR with the help of some good Samaritans and a fantastic transport crew.

As is typical of all puppies, Scarlet is cute, fun-loving, and playful. She brings wiggles and smiles wherever she goes. Although Scarlet is adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Scarlett will develop into the good canine citizen she is destined to become. If Scarlet sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today.

Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 5 years 7 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 60 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: No

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unlikely
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Jonah had a home with kids, cats, and another dog until the older male dog decided he no longer wanted Jonah around. Out of the need to keep Jonah safe, his family put him outside and tethered him there. Recognizing that Jonah deserved more, they made the decision to surrender him to another rescue who worked with us to bring Jonah to MAGSR.

Jonah is a friendly and playful guy. He loves attention and affection. As a young dog, Jonah gets excited about walks and can be jumpy while getting ready to go. However, once ready, he walks well on leash particularly when in a quieter setting. A little too interested in squirrels and bunnies, Jonah will need to learn to leave these little creatures alone when in the yard or out and about. Training will go a long way to help this handsome guy learn the ins and outs of being a good canine citizen. Jonah will do well in a household where he has the structure and leadership that will help him thrive. If Jonah sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet him today.

DESCRIPTION:

Raina was given to her family by a friend who felt she would be a good match for their household. Although she was clearly loved by her family, Raina struggled in a city environment. As a result, her family made the difficult decision to surrender Raina to MAGSR so that she could find the family and living environment that would help her develop into the incredible girl they knew she could be. Raina is a friendly but driven girl. As is typical of most shepherds, Raina is intelligent, active, and alert. In order to meet with success, Raina will need both her body and mind exercised daily. She is not a couch potato and will do best with an active family. Although Raina is working on her interactions with other dogs, she would prefer a family where she can be the only dog so that she can be the center of attention. Raina is housebroken and crate trained. She also knows a few commands. However, as is true of all shepherds, Raina will need to attend training in order to develop into the amazing shepherd we know she is destined to be. Training will not only help Raina develop into an amazing dog, but it will also help her bond with her new family. If this active lady sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Miss Raina is a remarkable girl.

She’s been in foster here for a little while now, and with each passing day we are more appreciative of her charm:  She’s so very sweet, intelligent, and engaging, and though on mature side she is very athletic, agile, active, and extremely highly driven, focused, and determined. She is the proverbial energizer bunny, and she has an outsized chest and huge lung capacity, so incredible endurance. She runs along with the recumbent bike at any speed and for any distance.  She is confident and unphased by city sidewalks and streets with their traffic and noise, and is always ready for what’s next.  She’s happiest with at least a moderate measure exercise every day, but quality is at least as important as quantity.  Her toy drive is off the chart, but mental stimulation and engagement is what she thrives on.  And she does spend most of her day happily in a state of calm repose (but is certainly ready to go at the drop of hat, or a toy!).  She has proven here that she can get along well with other dogs her size and enjoy their company, she meets people happily and graciously, learns quickly, and has good obedience.  But she must have appropriate structure and engagement.  If she is bored, frustrated, and improperly managed, she will likely find trouble.  She doesn’t need wide open spaces so much as she does leadership and companionship.  Miss Raina will thrive and offer the biggest love to someone who understands her and can give her the love, leadership, and lifestyle she so richly deserves.  Please let her know if you’d like to interview for that labor of love!

DESCRIPTION:

Remington found himself dumped in a shelter along with another family dog when the two, at the time unneutered dogs, got into a skirmish. Although surprised and a little unsure about this sudden change in circumstances, Remington won over the shelter staff with his friendly and social personality. A big fan of the lean-in, Remington loves attention and gives kisses in return. As a new member of the MAGSR family, we are still getting to know Remington. However, from what we have seen so far, this affectionate guy is simply looking for a forever home that will provide him with the love and leadership that all dogs require. If this social guy sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet him.

Updates:

Remington has had an amazing 1st week in his foster's home.  He is house broken, very friendly with people, easy to walk and overall a laid back dog. He loves to be around his humans, staying close and laying nearby giving you a sad look when he wants attention. This past week he was in a home with another dog, and they were best of friends.  He is very sweet, dedicated and loves to give kisses, his tongue going a mile a minute.

Hunter is a loving guy. He has lived with kids and other dogs. Although Hunter was clearly well loved by his family, he is a little confused by all the changes in his life and needs a little time to adjust. When given that chance, Hunter warms up and quickly becomes a playful puppy. Hunter is looking for a family that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be you?

Mazie

Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 6 years 8 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 60 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Mazie and Sadie were well-loved members of their family. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of their control, the girls' family needed to find them a new home. MAGSR was honored to step-up and provide Mazie and Sadie with a safe haven while we looked for the perfect forever for these girls.

Mazie is a special girl. Her family welcomed her home after a breeder considered putting her down after being born with a congenital defect. Although Mazie required a little extra time and support, she was welcomed home to a family that taught her how to walk, play, and interact just like any other dog. Mazie is a little confused by all of the changes in her life. As a result, she needs a little extra time to warm up to new people. However, when provided with leadership and guidance, Mazie warms up to new people and leans in for affection.

If Mazie sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Mazie is doing incredibly well in her foster home and has made a lot of progress.  In that time we have found she does great with bath, blow dry and nail trim.  Mazie is not food aggressive, nor is she food motivated but will be enticed with a high value treat such as chicken nugget. She is on a routine and happy to go outside to potty every 4 hours and does well in her crate.

She is on medication to help her with her bladder which she will have an occasional over excited dribble. When at home she likes to play with stuffed toys, balls, and chew on bully stick.  The recent snow accumulations have shown her love of snow and frolicking in it. Exuberantly wants to play with other dogs, teaching/training to play easy, calm and when needed leave it.  She will happily go for a car ride with you and give kisses.  Mazie will howl when she hears firetrucks or sirens.  She is working on sit, stay, off and with me and continued training will allow her to thrive.  Ask to meet Mazie today!

Mazie is currently in board and training for 2 weeks and working on her reaction to some dogs and as well as obedience.  She does well with small dogs but sometimes does not realize her size. She walks well on the leash and loves to be with her person.  She enjoys going for car rides, giving kisses and playing with stuffed toys but should be durable as she will rip them apart.  She does well with kids and adults. She is mostly housebroken with limited accidents due to her medical condition. She will sit pretty for a peanut butter treat.  If you're looking for an all weather type of girl she will gladly walk/run through rain, snow, sleet and does not mind thunderstorms. Luckily she also is very good with getting baths, grooming and being wiped down, for those extra muddy sessions : ).Does Mazie sound like the dog for you?!
