Stunning Sophie is a victim of cruelty and neglect. Fortunately, word got out about her situation and animal control confiscated her from her owners. Arriving at a shelter with a large wound on her back, hair missing in spots, limited fat and muscle on her body, and an overall poor body condition, shelter staff knew this girl needed a lot of support. They got right to work making sure she had what she needed and were impressed by how sweet and even tempered she appeared. Although staff members were doing everything they could to help Sophie heal, with an overwhelming number of dogs arriving at the shelter on a daily basis they knew she was living on borrowed time. As the days passed and no one stepped forward to welcome Sophie into their home, staff began to worry that Sophie wouldn't make it out alive. A plea for help went out. When we learned about Sophie's story, team MAGSR knew this lovely girl deserved the opportunity to find her forever family. 

Sophie is intelligent, energetic, and ready to move forward. She craves leadership and direction. As is true of all young shepherds, Sophie will thrive when provided with structure and routine. Excited to learn, Sophie is already picking up some basic commands and is definitely motivated by treats. Due to her past, we do not know if Sophie understands the ins and outs of living in a household. However, we know she is beyond ready to enjoy the comforts and routines of a loving home. As she moves forward, Sophie will benefit from training. Not only will training help Sophie bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. 

Unfortunately, we have learned that Sophie is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have easily been avoided with a monthly heartworm preventative. Sophie's treatment has just begun and, unsurprisingly, she is handling everything well. Although heartworm treatment is very expensive, we know that this special girl is more than worth the cost. MAGSR will cover the entirety of Sophie's heartworm treatment. A river is a natural flow of water that provides nourishment to many things along the way.  Much like a river, our latest addition to the MAGSR family, River, is sure to be a nourishment of love and snuggles to his furever family.  The story of River is one of rapid change; he found himself in unfamiliar territory as an owner-surrender to animal control, and moments before he was scheduled to be euthanized, MAGSR swooped in and saved River from ‘drying up’.  

We are still getting to know him, but his foster family reports that he is a near perfect boy!  We believe River to be between 1-2 years old and has done an amazing job transitioning from his previous life to his new environment.  River is housebroken and doesn’t appear to have issues with being put in the crate, including overnight. So far, River has been properly introduced to the resident dogs and cats, and hasn’t had issues. If he does find himself with a family that has cats, it’s best for those cats to be more on the ‘dog-savvy’ side, as Mr. River is quite curious! 

River is eager to please his humans, but will need to be trained and given the opportunity to show he can be a well mannered boy. He will thrive in a home and environment where he will be provided the basic necessities -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

Odin was absolutely adored by his dad. However, when unforeseen circumstances arose, his dad knew he could no longer provide Odin with the life he deserved. So, the decision was made to surrender Odin to MAGSR. We promised Odin's dad that we would find him a forever family that would cherish him for a lifetime. 

Odin is an outstanding dog. He is intelligent, playful, and energetic. A fan of adventures, Odin is looking for a family that will give him daily exercise for both his body and his mind. This help Odin maintain a stable and confident personality. It is highly apparent that his dad put foundational skills in place to help Odin meet with success. Odin was well socialized in various environments and with various people. As a well socialized dog is a happy dog, his forever family will need to continue this process. A fan of other dogs, Odin enjoys his playtime and can be a goofy guy. Opportunities to socialize in safe and structured environments will be critical to maintaining these skills. Knight was adored by his family. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they could no longer provide him with the life that he deserved. Recognizing that this big guy would be most successful if placed within a rescue, they reached out to MAGSR for rescue placement. Upon meeting Knight, we knew that this guy was special and would be an excellent addition to the MAGSR family. We promised his previous owners that we would find him an amazing forever family that would cherish him for a lifetime. 

Knight is a big, handsome, intelligent guy. He was clearly well socialized with other people. However, he was in need of a few additional manners when he arrived in our care. Using his size to his advantage, Knight enjoyed pulling his handler behind him on walks and adventures. Although Knight seemed to find this arrangement acceptable, it created a little too much additional work for his handlers. Recognizing that Knight would need a little support as he moved forward, our volunteers immediately stepped in and began teaching him manners. A smart guy, it did not take night long to understand the rules and expectations in place went on leash. With clear leadership and direction, this big guy is quickly making improvements. Knight is already making huge strides with obedience; however, it is critical that his forever family continue this process. Training will be a key component to his success. Not only will training help Knight create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a good canine citizen.

As a young guy, Knight has plenty of energy and an exuberance for life. He is looking for an active family that will take him along on their adventures. With a solid understanding of toys, Knight is hoping that his forever family enjoys playtime as much as he does. He is still learning to return toys when thrown, but we know these skills will develop with time. Having landed in an overcrowded shelter, both girls were living on borrowed time. When we learned about their potential fate, team MAGSR stepped in to ensure that both girls could move forward safely. We are thrilled to have been able to welcome them to MAGSR. 

Zoe is friendly and interactive. She was clearly well-socialized with people. As an energetic girl who loves to romp around, Zoe is looking for an active family that loves an adventure. With daily exercise for her body and her mind, Zoe will be ready for chill time with her people. True of all young dogs, Zoe will thrive in a household that provides her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds crave. Although she has done well with other dogs, Zoe, like her buddy, does have a high-prey drive. As a result, she is not a good match for households with small animals. Having previously lived in a home, Zoe does know many of the ins and outs of living in a household. However, as is true of any new family member, Zoe will need time to adjust to the routines and expectations of her forever family. Given opportunities to meet with success, Zoe will rise to the occasion. As Zoe moves forward, training will be critical to her success. Training will provide Zoe with the foundational skills needed to develop into a stable and confident canine citizen. It will also give her the opportunity to develop a healthy and trusting relationship with her forever family. Jerry Lee is a victim of cruelty and neglect.  He was confiscated and charges were brought against his owner. Jerry Lee has moved on from his horrible past and is looking ahead to the future. Jerry Lee is a young, energetic, intelligent guy. He is looking for an active household that will provide him with the clear structure and routine that all shepherds need. Consistency and leadership are essential to developing stable and confident adult German shepherd. Coming from a situation with little opportunity for affection or interaction with the world around him, Jerry Lee is learning about the smells, sounds, and sites around him. He can be a little timid at first; however, patience and confidence go a long way with him. As is true of all young dogs, Jerry Lee will need daily exercise for both his mind and his body. This will help him develop the ability to handle new people and situations in a calm and composed manner, as well as help him develop a healthy mindset. Continued socialization is also critical for Jerry Lee as he has spent his first year with limited interactions. Providing Jerry Lee with opportunities to interact with people and other animals in a controlled manner will help him develop essential skills that could not be established while chained up. Sweet Roman was dumped in a sheriff's parking lot in the south. With no one around to take responsibility for him, Roman was brought to an animal shelter in town where staff members immediately fell in love with this guy. Although they knew this guy was a good candidate for adoption, no one stepped forward for Roman. Due to endless overcrowding, once his stray hold was up, Roman was on borrowed time. Knowing that Roman deserved every opportunity to thrive in a home of his very own, staff members at the shelter began reaching out for help. When MAGSR heard that Roman needed rescue placement, we knew this boy was the perfect candidate for the MAGSR family. 

Roman is one handsome dude. Typical of young shepherds, he is curious, energetic, and intelligent. Although very sweet, it does take Roman a little time to adjust to new people. It seems that he was not as well socialized as expected at his age. However, with a little time and patience, Roman does enjoy the company of his people. Currently living with an experienced foster family, Roman is benefitting from daily opportunities to socialize with new people and in new environments. Continued socialization will be critical to his success in his forever home. To help build confidence, Roman is also participating in training. Training is giving Roman the opportunity to develop trust and look to the handler for guidance. It is also helping him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.
