Sweet Hamara came to MAGSR after being adopted out from a local shelter and returned because she had a heart murmur. MAGSR immediately sent her to a cardiologist to have an Echo-cardiogram. The echo confirmed that Hamara has a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which is a common congenital birth defect in dogs and more so in females – German Shepherds are also predisposed to PDAs. At this time, her heart is enlarged and is the size of an 80 lb dog. Hamara will have surgery to correct the defect on March 31st and is expected to make a full recovery and live a long and happy life. However, she will not be available for adoption for at least 3 weeks after her surgery, as she will be on strict crate restriction during that time so she can fully recover, and then she can move on with the rest of her life.
Hamara’s diagnostics and surgery is quite expensive & will cost MAGSR over $6700. MAGSR will continue to fund her needs but could really use your help via donations to support the cost of her care and the care of other medical dogs in need.
