Meet Big Boy — a handsome senior German Shepherd with a heart as warm and generous as his name suggests! This gentle giant is pure sweetness wrapped in a soft, loyal soul. Big Boy adores being part of whatever his family is doing and has a calm, loving presence that brings comfort to everyone around him.
He gets along beautifully with people and other animals alike, showing signs of being both dog- and stranger-friendly. His easygoing, mellow temperament makes him an ideal companion for almost any home. Whether he’s trotting happily beside you on a walk, quietly watching over the yard, or curling up to relax with his favorite humans, Big Boy shines brightest when he’s surrounded by love.
Big Boy was picked up as a stray almost a year ago by another rescue. However, due to an overabundance of animals in need in the area he was overlooked by potential adopters for far too long. Knowing that this gentle soul deserved a family to call his very own, the rescue asked us to consider welcoming Big Boy to the rescue family. MAGSR knew this handsome guy would be the perfect match for the right household and welcomed him without a second thought. Although we know Big Boy is special, we do not know much about his past. With such an incredible personality, someone must have loved him somewhere along his journey. Like all shepherds, Big Boy is looking for a loving household that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that will help him thrive. Training will be critical to his success. Not only will training help Big Boy recognize that he is finally home with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.
Big Boy is looking for a forever family that will appreciate his impressive nature and provide him with the love and happiness that he so desperately deserves. Big Boy truly is a big boy with an even bigger heart. If you are looking for the perfect gentleman, look no further than this boy!

Sometimes life just isn’t fair. Some dogs experience heartbreak and loss far too many times, and sweet senior Figgle knows that feeling all too well.
Figgle first found his way to MAGSR years ago after a difficult beginning, and thankfully he was adopted into a loving home where he was truly cherished. Sadly, his beloved dad recently passed away unexpectedly, leaving Figgle suddenly alone and uncertain of what came next. Wanting to keep him safe, a caring neighbor brought Figgle to a local shelter with a note explaining he was a MAGSR dog. The moment we learned where he was, we welcomed this special boy right back into the family.
Although Figgle is an absolute delight, the sudden changes understandably shook him. Like people, dogs grieve deeply, and Figgle needed time to process the loss of the person he loved most. Even through the sadness, however, his sweet and joyful spirit continues to shine.
Having spent many years in a home, Figgle is housebroken, crate trained, and very much appreciates the comforts of family life — especially a soft, cozy bed. He absolutely adores toys and lights up with excitement over plushies, squeaky toys, balls, and bones. Despite being a senior gentleman, Figgle still has a goofy, playful personality that brings constant smiles and laughter to those around him.
Senior dogs are truly special. They bring a gentle kind of love, gratitude, and companionship that fills a home in ways that are hard to describe. Figgle is simply looking for a family who will treasure him during his golden years and give him the stability, kindness, and love he deserves. His wishlist is simple: daily walks, plenty of toys, a comfy place to rest, and someone to snuggle with at the end of the day.
If your heart and home have room for a truly special boy, Figgle is ready to meet you and start the next chapter of his life surrounded by love once again.

Guapo is a young, active, and incredibly handsome guy who found himself in a tough situation. After being picked up as a stray and brought to animal services, it appeared he had picked up a few minor injuries while surviving on his own. With a veterinary check and some antibiotics, however, Guapo was soon back on his feet and ready for a fresh start.
While little was known about his past, it quickly became clear that Guapo had spent time around people before. He showed signs of socialization and already knew how to walk nicely on a leash. Recognizing that this special boy deserved a safe and promising future, the shelter reached out to MAGSR—and we were happy to welcome him into the family.
Young, athletic, and intelligent, Guapo has all the classic traits of a young German Shepherd Dog. Curious about the world and eager to learn, he’s searching for an active forever family that will keep both his body and mind engaged every day. Guapo already knows a few commands and is ready for more challenges. Continued training will help strengthen the bond with his forever family while giving him the tools he needs to grow into a confident and well-mannered canine citizen. Like many young dogs, Guapo can sometimes get a little overstimulated around other dogs, especially if they’re rowdy. Slow and proper introductions to new canine friends will set him up for success, just as we recommend for all of our dogs. After a day of adventure, Guapo’s favorite place will be right beside his people. This affectionate boy loves to snuggle and will happily end the day with a sloppy good-night kiss.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s ready to learn, explore, and share plenty of love, Guapo might just be the perfect match. Ask to meet him today!

Jack’s story begins like far too many others—found as a stray and brought into an overcrowded shelter, where he waited patiently for a family that never came. As days passed and space ran out, Jack’s future became uncertain. With shelters across the country overwhelmed, many wonderful dogs don’t get the second chance they deserve. Thankfully, a last-minute plea reached the right ears, and MAGSR stepped in just in time to give Jack that chance.
Jack is everything you’d expect from a young German Shepherd Dog—playful, curious, and bursting with energy. He’s an adventurous, social boy who is always ready to engage, whether it’s playtime in the yard or learning something new. Like many young pups who haven’t yet had consistent structure, Jack is still figuring out the world around him and will thrive with a confident leader who can provide guidance, routine, and clear expectations. Highly intelligent and eager to connect, Jack has so much potential. With regular training and daily mental and physical exercise, he’s sure to blossom into a well-mannered and devoted companion. Training won’t just help him learn good manners—it will also strengthen the bond he shares with his forever family. Jack has already begun learning the basics of home life. He’s getting comfortable with crate training, working on housebreaking, and starting to understand what’s expected of him in a household. Like any young GSD, he’ll need patience, consistency, and time—but the reward will be a loyal, loving companion who brings joy and laughter into every day.
Despite his uncertain past, Jack’s future is incredibly bright. He’s looking for a forever family ready to embrace his playful spirit, keep up with his energy, and enjoy both his goofy antics and his affectionate cuddles. Marlo is a stunning German Shepherd with a heart as big as his paws. He showed up at a country home down south and was reported as a stray, but when no one came for him, it became clear that Marlo was searching for something more—a family. He chose an incredibly kind home to visit and quickly showed what a wonderful dog he is. Despite his prey drive for small critters, Marlo was great with the children and got along well with other dogs. One of his favorite things? The moment you approach him, he eagerly drops, rolls over, and offers his belly for scratches—clearly a professional at soaking up affection.
Although we don't know much about his past, it is clear that someone took the time to provide this boy with a solid foundation. Marlo is quiet and well-mannered in his crate and truly enjoys going for walks. Sadly, like many dogs from the south, Marlo is heartworm positive. The good news is that MAGSR covers all of his heartworm treatment, so his future family can focus on loving him and helping him heal. This boy is already moving forward with his care. Marlo will need to take it easy over the next few months while his body heals. However, as he is already a pro with the crate and responsive to the handler, Marlo is the perfect patient. Please consider donating to Marlo's care. Not only will your donation help Marlo receive the care he needs, but it will help us continue to welcome other dogs with medical needs.
Marlo is affectionate, gentle, and deeply loyal—ready to give his whole heart to a family who will give him the forever home he’s been waiting for. Could you be the one to give Marlo his happy ending?

Saxom is a truly special guy with a big heart and an even bigger spirit. He first arrived in MAGSR’s care a few years ago alongside his son, Ozzie, after tragedy struck — their family’s home was lost in a fire, and both boys were surrendered to a local shelter. Confused, scared, and struggling like so many German Shepherds do in that environment, Saxom and Ozzie needed help. MAGSR stepped in to give them the second chance they deserved. With time, patience, and love, both dogs thrived — finding families who adored them. Although we always hope every adoption is forever, sometimes life takes unexpected turns. And at MAGSR, we stand by our promise: “Once a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog.”
When Saxom recently needed to come back to us, our team made sure he had a safe and loving foster home waiting. Upon his return, it was discovered that he had developed perianal fistula, a chronic inflammatory condition more common in German Shepherds. While this condition requires ongoing care and daily medication, our amazing team and his devoted foster family are committed to keeping Saxom comfortable and happy. Despite his medical needs, Saxom’s joyful spirit shines through every day. He loves his toys — especially his ball — and his foster family keeps the toy basket well-stocked to make sure playtime is never missed. As a senior gentleman, he enjoys a good balance of fun and rest, curling up on a cozy bed for pets and relaxation between play sessions.
Saxom’s care does come with significant costs — his medications, specialized food, and regular vet check-ins are all part of ensuring he stays healthy and happy. If you’d like to help this incredible boy, please consider donating toward Saxom’s care. Most of all, Saxom is still hoping that the right family will come along to love him through his golden years. Could you be the one to give this loyal, loving soul the forever home he deserves?

Hi Everyone! My name is Stryder but I prefer “Stry Guy” because then I know I am not in trouble. A lucky guy, I spent 9 months with my last family, They absolutely adored me, but they had to return me to MAGSR when the older male in the house and I could not get along. I was fabulous with the resident female dog. This was a difficult decision for all of us; however, my family knew that MAGSR would take care of me and ensure that I found an incredible forever family.
In dog years, I am a teenager so, I have been building a good foundation, but I still have plenty to learn. For example, I love the water - squirt guns, hoses, lakes – but I am a big boy and I'm still fine tuning my understanding of which water is for play and which is not. According to my people, the water dish isn't a tiny pond for my enjoyment. I'm still not convinced they are correct. When not enjoying water time, I am beyond happy to dive into the toy bin and play. I adore chew toys like antlers and tough stuffed animals. I try to remember that the squeaky parts stay inside the toy, but sometimes their removal is simply too tempting and those squeaky parts accidently fall out. If you want to play with me, you are always welcome. I like to play fetch and I'm always ready for a game of tug of war as long as clear boundaries are set. Fortunate to have begun training class, I am a shiny star in obedience school. In my previous home, I was participating in two classes a week to prepare for intermediate obedience classes. I was also on track to pass my Canine Good Citizen class. I love going to class because I can ride in the car, learn new things, and get lots of treats. Continued training is what they call "critical to my success." As I can be a little nervous in new situations, they tell me it will help me continue to build confidence, I also think it will help me better understand my new family.
As a teenager, I am realizing that I like to be the boss and would prefer to be the only male dog in the house. I mean really, who doesn't want a leadership role? I got along great with my foster sister. She is a GSD too. I have also enjoyed going to doggy camp and playing with my canine buddies. Apparently, I am still very "puppy-like" whatever that means. All I know is I enjoy daily playtime, walks, and opportunities to get out my zoomies. After I get all the wiggles out, I have to admit, I love lounging - especially when everyone settles in the evening. However, as is true of all GSDs, I will thrive in an environment with structure, routine, and leadership. I have so much love to give and want to share it with my new family.
I am looking for a forever family that loves playtime, snuggles, and endless treats. Just so you know, ice cubes are my favorite. If you are looking for an active pup, an interactive guy, and a constant companion, let me know. I could be the right “Stry Guy” for you!

History: Stray to Shelter
Like far too many dogs, Watson was picked up as a local stray and brought to a nearby shelter to wait for someone to come claim him. Shelter staff worked hard to ensure he had everything he needed, but life inside an overcrowded shelter — especially one undergoing ongoing construction with limited kennel space — quickly became overwhelming for this young shepherd.
German Shepherds are incredibly intelligent, sensitive dogs who often struggle in stressful shelter environments. Day after day, Watson tried his best to cope with the noise, chaos, and constant activity around him. While staff did everything possible to keep his spirits up and make him comfortable, they knew shelter life was no place for a dog like Watson to spend his days. A plea for rescue support was sent out, and fortunately, one of MAGSR’s wonderful foster families had an opening. Team MAGSR quickly welcomed Watson into the family, giving him the chance to finally decompress and begin learning what stability feels like.
Young, handsome, and intelligent, Watson embodies many of the classic German Shepherd traits people know and love. He is playful, enthusiastic, and absolutely adores toys — especially balls. In fact, chances are good you’ll find him proudly carrying one around wherever he goes. Watson approaches life with excitement and curiosity, always ready for the next game, adventure, or opportunity to make a new friend.
As a young shepherd with plenty of energy and drive, Watson will thrive in a home committed to meeting both his physical and mental needs each day. Exercise, structure, training, and enrichment will help him continue developing into a balanced and confident adult dog. A home focused solely on lounging around the house would not be the best fit for this active, playful boy. Watson is looking for a family that will appreciate his joyful spirit and help channel his energy in positive and productive ways.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his past, Watson has shown himself to be a social and happy dog. He does well with other dogs and has clearly experienced positive interactions with people along the way. His friendly personality and eagerness to connect with those around him make it easy to see just how much potential this young guy has.
Because Watson arrived as a stray, there is still much we are learning about him. Now settled into a foster home, he is beginning to learn the routines and expectations that come with living in a household environment. Housebreaking, crate training, and general manners are all part of the learning process for any new rescue dog. While Watson is already making progress, he will need patience, consistency, and clear guidance from his forever family as he continues to build confidence and life skills.
What we know for certain is that Watson deserves a chance — a chance to feel safe, loved, and truly at home. With the right family by his side, this fun-loving young shepherd has all the makings of an incredible lifelong companion. If you are looking for an energetic, affectionate, and playful shepherd to share your adventures, ask to meet Watson today.

Some dogs are fortunate enough to spend their lives in loving homes where they are cherished and well cared for. Orion was one of those lucky dogs — deeply adored by his owner and living a happy, stable life. Tragically, everything changed when his beloved owner received a terminal diagnosis and later passed away. Though friends stepped in with the best of intentions, over time Orion’s care declined. He became severely emaciated, lost significant muscle mass, developed urine burns, wounds, and scabs across his body. His condition had become so poor that patches of fur disappeared. It was clear he needed more help than anyone could provide. Recognizing his condition, Orion was surrendered to a local shelter. The shelter team saw the good dog behind the neglect and knew he would be best served within a rescue. When they reached out to Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue (MAGSR), our team couldn’t possibly say no to that gentle face.
Orion entered rescue and went directly into a foster home, where his journey back to health truly began. With time, patience, and experienced care, his foster family carefully addressed his needs. Under veterinary guidance, Orion began a structured refeeding plan to safely restore his weight and strength. At first, he needed reassurance that meals and fresh water would consistently be available. With routine and stability, he has settled in and rediscovered what it means to feel safe, loved, and provided for. As his body heals, Orion’s foster family has slowly reintroduced light muscle-building activities to help him regain strength. Weekly baths are soothing his healing skin, and he absolutely adores a soft brush and a good head rub. A classic leaner with the most expressive eyes, Orion has a quiet sweetness that makes him truly special.
Although he previously lived in a home, Orion has spent the past several weeks reacclimating to household life. Like all German Shepherds, he will thrive with structure, consistency, and confident leadership. Given patience and clear expectations, he will adjust beautifully to his forever family’s routine. Already beginning to learn commands, Orion is highly motivated by treats and praise and shows great potential in training. Continued training will be essential — not only to help him build a strong bond with his family, but also to support his growth into a confident and well-mannered canine citizen.
Orion is intelligent, curious, and incredibly handsome. More than anything, he is looking for a forever family who will cherish him, guide him, and love him for the rest of his life. Could that family be you?
