Cleo Grace’s journey hasn’t been easy. She was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter, carrying the weight of a difficult past. Her ears tell part of her story—one bears the scars of chronic infection, and the other shows signs of fly strikes. But while her body carries reminders of hardship, her heart is ready for healing.
Cleo Grace is like a little seed waiting to blossom. At first, she can be shy and unsure, but once she feels safe, she leans in close and buries her head into her handler’s chest—her way of saying “thank you for keeping me safe.”
Because new experiences can overwhelm her, Cleo Grace will do best in a quiet, calm home with patient adopters who can offer gentle guidance, structure, and consistency. Keeping her safe and secure will be a top priority, as she is still considered a high flight risk due to her past. With time, trust, and encouragement, she will thrive.
She will soon begin a confidence-building training program with our rescue, where she’ll learn that people can be trusted and life can be joyful. Cleo Grace is safe now, surrounded by love and support, and we’re committed to giving her every chance to succeed.
All she needs is her forever family—the one who will nurture her, help her bloom, and finally give her the happy ending she deserves.

Hope’s story almost ended before it truly began. Please contribute to a happy ending.
This beautiful female German Shepherd was found suffering from a devastating broken leg, in tremendous pain and in urgent need of medical intervention. She couldn’t bear weight. She couldn’t protect herself. She had nowhere to turn. Thankfully, someone noticed this lovely girl and brought her to safety at a shelter, hoping she would receive the care she so desperately needed. Unfortunately, with limited funds and resources, the shelter was unable to provide the extensive medical treatment required. Recognizing the severity of her condition and her suffering, a heartbreaking decision loomed — find a rescue willing to step in or face euthanasia.
That’s when Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue stepped forward — because no dog should suffer alone. Our dedicated team immediately began coordinating transport, arranging veterinary care, and mobilizing support to ensure Hope had a chance. With quick action, incredible collaboration, and the generosity of our community, we were able to intervene for this special girl. Knowing she would need a name that reflected her journey and her future, we chose Hope.
Hope underwent emergency surgery to repair a severe compound fracture in her back right leg. It was an intensive and complex procedure, but thanks to the skill and dedication of our veterinary team, her leg has been stabilized and she is now resting safely. The road to recovery will be long and carefully managed, but Hope has already shown us she possesses the heart of a survivor.
Despite everything she has endured, Hope remains gentle and resilient. There is a quiet strength in her — the kind you see in dogs who still choose to trust despite unimaginable pain. She is already showing us that she wants to fight, that she wants to heal, and that she wants her second chance. Lifesaving orthopedic surgery comes at a significant cost, and her recovery will require ongoing monitoring, follow-up visits, medications, and rehabilitation in the months ahead.
Hope has done her part by surviving.Rescue did its part by saying yes.
Now we are asking you to be part of her story.
Please consider donating toward Hope’s surgical care and recovery. Your support will help ensure she continues receiving the treatment she needs to move forward. As she heals, this remarkable girl will one day begin searching for a forever family — one that will write the final chapter of her story with the happy ending she deserves.
Hope is no longer alone. And because of you, she never will be again.
Hope successfully made it through surgery! One step closer to recovery Hope has an external fixation device to stabilize her leg. And the BEST news?! She is almost ready for transport to MAGSR!
This entire process has been fast, yet smooth thank you to our rescue partners. Once again, it takes a village and we are just so thankful.
Hope’s invoice is already past $6300 and the care she needs and will continue to need for healing will only increase that number. We cannot do this without you. If you can, please consider donating to Hope’s care. Every donation goes straight to Hope and allows us to continue helping dogs like her, at a moments notice, because that is what each and every pup deserves. Hope deserves a second chance at life. She deserves a forever family once she is healed and ready for a lifetime of commitment and love.
As many of you know, on Thursday, (2/19), we received a desperate plea for a 2–3 year old female German Shepherd who had been hit by a car and left with open wounds and a compound leg fracture. So, we welcomed Miss Hope to the MAGSR family❤️
Since then, this sweet girl has had one busy weekend! She was transported to an orthopedist specialist where she received surgery on her affected leg, leaving her with an external fixation device for stabilization during her recovery. She was discharged on Saturday night, and thanks to some very special transport volunteers, she made her way to Maryland on Sunday and Monday! She is here safe and sound and has proven herself quite the sweetheart to all who have met her! Hope is resilient and making her way to a new life full of love, care, and a forever family to call her own. A very, very special thank you to the transport volunteers that helped Hope on her journey, and a special thank you to Hope’s medical foster, who will aide Hope in her long, but very worth it recovery process! We will keep saying it, it takes a VILLAGE!
Hope’s invoice is already well past $8000 and the care she needs and will continue to need for healing will only increase that number.

Some dogs are passed around far too many times in their young lives, and sweet Kieko is one of them. At just five months old, she has already experienced more transitions than any puppy should. Each time she began to settle in, another change followed. Fortunately, her most recent owner recognized that Kieko deserved stability and made the thoughtful decision to surrender her to a local shelter only two weeks after bringing her home. Knowing Kieko needed a permanent, supportive placement, shelter staff reached out to MAGSR for help. We knew this adorable little lady would thrive in rescue, and thanks to an incredible foster family stepping forward, Kieko officially joined the MAGSR family.
In many ways, Kieko is your typical young German Shepherd puppy—curious, energetic, and eager to explore the world around her. She has previously lived with other dogs and cats; however, her prey drive is a bit too strong for feline friends, so a cat-free home will be best for her moving forward. While we don’t know much about her early history, it’s clear that someone invested time in giving Kieko a solid socialization foundation. She enjoys people and happily cuddles up for affection.
Because of the many changes she has experienced early in life, Kieko will need time to adjust and settle into her forever home. With patience, consistency, and continued training, she will absolutely thrive. Kieko already walks well on leash and knows several basic cues, including sit, stay, paw, and down. Like many puppies, she’s still learning appropriate manners and can be a bit enthusiastic, especially when it comes to keeping all four paws on the floor. This is a normal puppy behavior that will improve with clear expectations, structure, and training. Overall, Kieko is a joyful, affectionate puppy who loves to run, play, and soak up attention from her people.
While Kieko is beyond delightful, it’s important to remember that she is still a puppy. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and bring plenty of playful chaos along with them. Structure, routine, training, and continued socialization will be the keys to Kieko’s long-term success. If this little lady sounds like the right match for your family, please ask to meet her today!

Kya is a stunning young female German Shepherd who effortlessly turns heads wherever she goes. Having lived in a loving home since she was a puppy, Kya has a strong foundation and understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She is already housebroken and crate trained, making her transition into a new home much easier. However, as is true of all GSDs, she will need time, patience, and structure while she adjusts to her new household.
Highly intelligent and full of drive, Kya is a dog who truly enjoys working and learning. Her family recognized her motivation early on and provided opportunities for socialization and training from a young age. As Kya matured, it became clear that she needed a home capable of meeting her higher-level needs—both mentally and physically. Kya thrives when she has a purpose and requires daily outlets to exercise her body and challenge her mind. Advanced training, agility, or a job of her own would be excellent fits for this talented girl.
Although her family adored her, they made the difficult and selfless decision to surrender Kya to MAGSR, knowing she needed more than they could provide. Kya is not a couch potato. She is seeking an active, experienced home that will embrace her energy, intelligence, and drive. This girl is incredibly handler-focused and reads her person well. With calm, consistent, and clear leadership, she truly excels. She will thrive in a home that provides structure, routine, and clear expectations, allowing her to reach her full potential.
Kya is ready to find a family of her very own—one that will appreciate her abilities and help her shine. If this lovely girl sounds like the right match for your home, please ask to meet her today!
Kya has been in her foster home for a couple weeks and is doing very well. Kya is everything you'd expect from a quality working-line GSD. She's very beautiful and in excellent physical condition, has abundant youthful energy and drive, is handler focused, has a strong personality and spirit, and can be excitable when stimulated. She knows her basic commands and has very good obedience, but she will push and test if not given consistent boundaries, structure, and leadership as she continues to mature, learn, and grow.
Kya has settled in well with the two older resident female GSDs in the home, crates well, and settles easily at night. She's been going to training with her foster to improve her off leash compliance in the face of distance and distractions, and is making good progress. She has very strong toy drive, and enjoys her twice daily bike jaunts, that help her to burn off some of that energy!
Kya is a hugely appealing and very fun dog, and is not shy! The flip side of that is if her handler is not fully in charge she will be. So she needs strong leadership, consistency, structure, clear communication and limits, and positive engagement to exercise her mind and body.
If you are ready to keep up with her, and provide the love and leadership she needs to thrive, please ask to meet Kya!

Mavis is a joyful, energetic 6-month-old pup with a heart as big as her personality. Always ready to play, explore, and make new friends, she truly is the life of the party. From the moment shelter staff met her after she was picked up as a stray in the South, they knew Mavis was something special—a little spark of endless joy in an overcrowded shelter full of dogs needing help. Fearing she might be overlooked due to overcrowding, a plea was sent out for her. While many rescues were already overwhelmed, our team stepped forward with a plan, and Mavis walked out the shelter doors and into the MAGSR family.
With a solid social foundation already in place, Mavis has learned that many people are just as excited to say hello as she is. Continued socialization will be key to her success, as she benefits from positive experiences with new people, animals, and environments. She is a smart, curious girl who learns quickly and loves people of all sizes. Mavis adores kids and has a playful spirit, though—like most young pups—she is still learning her manners. With training, structure, and clear boundaries, she could be a wonderful companion for a child to grow up with and a true best friend.
Mavis does best with a calm, confident leader and often looks to her handler for reassurance, especially when encountering new sounds or situations. As a former stray, she can be a bit skittish at times, but with confidence-building and continued positive exposure, she continues to thrive and grow.
Thanks to time in a fantastic temporary foster home, we’ve learned that Mavis already has great house skills. She is housebroken, crate trained, and polite on leash. She takes care of business right away when outside and will sit patiently while waiting for her leash to be removed—though, as a young pup, she can get a little excited if it takes too long! Occasionally, the world is just a bit too exciting and she may dash suddenly on leash, but overall she is learning quickly. Mavis enjoys relaxing with her people and has a love-hate relationship with the TV—she likes to watch, but may react when animals or certain sounds appear. She’s incredibly affectionate and believes being a lap dog is a very serious job. Having been overcorrected in the past, Mavis may briefly retreat when told “no,” but she quickly bounces back, eager to give kisses and reassure herself that all is well.
Adopting Mavis means welcoming endless fun, affection, and loyalty into your home. She is ready to give her whole heart to a family who will help her continue to grow and feel safe—forever. Please consider giving Mavis the loving home she deserves, so she never has to worry about her safety again.

Not all mothers get to bring their babies into the world surrounded by love, safety, and comfort. Sadly, Moonlight and her nine puppies — affectionately known as the Island Litter — were found in a heartbreaking state: malnourished, filthy, flea-infested, and utterly neglected. Confiscated by animal control and placed in a shelter, this vulnerable family was at high risk. But thanks to the quick work of compassionate rescuers and foster volunteers, they were pulled to safety.
From the moment Moonlight arrived in foster care, her strength and sweetness shone through. Despite the suffering she endured, she remained attentive to her pups and incredibly responsive to her caregivers. With medical care, nutritious food, and gentle handling, Moonlight and her babies began to heal — body and soul.
Today, Moonlight is thriving. She is smart, alert, affectionate, and energetic — everything you’d expect from a classic German Shepherd. She’s always ready for a new adventure and loves interactive time with her people. Her resilient spirit, loyal nature, and engaging personality make her truly special. As a dog with drive, Moonlight loves toys and activity — but she also has a strong prey instinct. For that reason, she is not a candidate for a home with cats or other small animals. However, she is social with other dogs and may do well with a compatible canine companion.
To give Moonlight the best start in her new life, MAGSR has partnered with Mason Dixon K9 to help her build foundational obedience skills. She is currently working on her training, and continued structured training will be essential in helping her grow into the confident, well-balanced dog we know she can be. Her ideal family will provide guidance, consistency, and plenty of love.
Moonlight has already endured more than most dogs experience in a lifetime — and she’s come through with grace and heart. Now, she deserves the very best: a forever home filled with security, adventure, and unconditional love. Apply today to bring Moonlight home. Help her leave the past behind and step fully into the bright, joyful future she’s been waiting for.

Reba, along with her sisters Lainey and Shaina, came from an accidental litter; one that we have affectionately named the Country Puppies. Born without the resources or care they needed, the girls spent their early days living outside without consistent attention or guidance. Recognizing that the puppies deserved a safer, healthier start, their owner made the responsible decision to surrender them to MAGSR. This gave each girl the chance to grow into a confident, stable adult with the support of a loving family.
Reba is a brave little sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger desire for love. Despite her tough beginnings, she’s discovering just how wonderful the world can be—one cuddle, treat, and wagging tail at a time. Curious, affectionate, and eager to bond, she’s soaking up all the positive experiences she missed early on. Reba does have some natural alpha tendencies and can be opinionated. She has even attempted to herd the other two GSDs in her foster home. However, with time, patience, and consistent guidance, she is learning manners and basic commands. She’s dog-friendly and people-friendly, though cats may not be the best match for this lovely girl.
As adorable as she is, Reba is still very much a puppy. She will whine, have accidents, and keep you on your toes with endless puppy antics. But with training, routine, and plenty of opportunities to learn, Reba will grow into an amazing adult dog. Her foster family has been working hard to build a strong foundation of skills, and she’s ready to continue her journey with a family that can provide the structure, routine, and encouragement she needs to thrive. In return, Reba will bring joy, devotion, and that special rescue-dog gratitude that fills a home with love.
Reba is ready for her forever family—could it be you?
Reba is settling in nicely. We are still working on housebreaking—she is currently most comfortable using pee pads in her crate. She has gone outside twice while we were playing in a field.
Reba is dog-friendly and loves balls and hard chew toys like Nylabones. She is a rough player and can be a bit bossy. She does well in a crate as long as she can see people. She is not a big barker unless she sees another dog she cannot meet, and she settles down with correction. We are working on crate training (being alone), basic obedience commands, and housebreaking.
She has completed her treatment for her skin concerns. The hair on her ears and around her eyes is slowly growing back. She is still itchy, but it has improved. We are now starting Doxycycline for Lyme disease.
Reba is a fun-loving, high-energy puppy with the happiest personality and balls are her absolute favorite thing in the world! She loves playing fetch and will even entertain herself with her own little game of “soccer.”
She’s dog-friendly and enjoys meeting new friends. She can be a little bossy at times, but she’s never aggressive; just full of personality! Reba is also fully housebroken (yay!) All pee pads have officially been removed from her crate and the house.
While she enjoys all kinds of toys, nothing beats a good ball. Recently, she’s started barking when she sees other dogs. It might sound a bit intense, but it’s really just excitement. We’re working on helping her stay calm in those moments. Otherwise, she’s not much of a barker except during playtime.
We go to the dog park about three times a week so she can run and socialize, and she truly loves it. She hasn’t met a dog she doesn’t like! I usually go when it’s not too crowded so she can have a more relaxed experience.
Reba has also started staying home during the day while I’m at work. She’s not the biggest fan of being crated when alone, but she does settle after a bit. Since she’s still in her “chewy puppy” phase, she does need to stay in her crate when unsupervised.
And one more win; she’s outgrown her motion sickness and now rides great in the car!
She’s such a joyful, playful pup who brings a lot of energy and love wherever she goes

Regal Rory was originally welcomed to the MAGSR family as a puppy. She was one of the Baseball Puppies. Having lived with an amazing foster family, Rory had developed a good foundation of social skills and was adopted into a loving household. Although her family had every intention of loving Rory for a lifetime, when a family dynamic shifted, the decision was made that it was in Rory's best interest to return her to the MAGSR family. Surrendering a cherished member of the family is never a decision that is made lightly. Rory's family adored her; however, they knew that she would be more successful if placed in a different home. We know this was not easy for Rory's family, but we promised to find her an incredible match so that she can move forward and meet with success.
In many ways still a puppy, Rory is young, energetic, and curious about the world around her. However, having left the home she expected to remain in for the rest of her life, she is a little unsure right now. Recognizing that Rory will need some time to decompress and adjust to new people and environments, our team is working with her to help her meet with success. Rory's new family will need to ensure that she is given time, patience, structure, and routine in her new household. This will help lovely Rory thrive. Once comfortable, Rory is a playful and loving girl. She enjoys toys and loves to learn new tricks. When playtime is finished, Rory is an expert cuddler. She is a great balance of joy and affection. Having lived in a loving home, Rory understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She is both housebroken and crate trained. However, as is true of all new dogs, she will need time to learn the specific expectations of her new family. Training will be beyond helpful for Rory. Not only will training help Rory build a strong bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.
Rory is looking for a patient household that enjoys daily activities with a good cuddle session thrown in from time to time throughout the day. If this little love is the right match for your family, ask to meet Rory today!

Tinkerbell is a beautiful, intelligent German Shepherd Dog with an adventurous spirit and a heart full of love. She recently arrived at the shelter as an owner surrender after her family struggled to keep her safely contained—this clever girl figured out how to jump the fence, and once a smart GSD learns a skill, it’s hard to unlearn! As a result, Tinkerbell will need a dedicated and attentive home that understands her needs. She cannot be left unattended in a yard, as barriers are more like challenges to her. With the right structure, supervision, and outlets for her energy, she will absolutely thrive.
The loss of what she thought was her forever family was truly heartbreaking for Tinkerbell. Her arrival at a loud, overcrowded shelter made her situation more difficult. Despite all the changes she’s experienced, Tinkerbell has remained friendly, social, and playful. She enjoys going for walks and exploring the world through her nose, often taking a moment to observe her surroundings before greeting new people. It’s her thoughtful way of getting comfortable—and once she does, her sweet personality shines.
Tinkerbell would benefit greatly from continued training, both to strengthen her bond with her new family and to help her become the best canine companion she can be. She appears to be housebroken and is already familiar with living in a home environment. In her previous home, Tinkerbell lived successfully with two small dogs and a young child. However, she does show some prey drive and would likely do best in a home without cats or small animals. Tinkerbell is truly a special girl—resilient, bright, and full of potential. With patience, structure, and love, she will make an incredibly loyal and rewarding companion.
Could you be the one to give Tinkerbell the safe, structured, and loving home she deserves?
