DESCRIPTION:

MAGSR received a call from another local rescue that a large group of puppies were in need of placement as soon as possible. In total there were 21 pups who would need rescue placement. As this was too many puppies for one group to support, the hope was that we could work together to get everyone into safe and loving homes. With 8 pups finding safety with the other rescue, our team began working together to see if we could find loving foster homes for the remaining 13. Although this was a rather large undertaking, team MAGSR worked quickly to put everything in place. The "Christmas Puppies" - Rudolph, Hermy, Yukon, Clarice, Moonracer, Donner, Vixen, Claus, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, and Cupid - have arrived and are hoping to find forever homes for the holidays.

Having been born in what appears to be less than ideal situations, the "Christmas Puppies" arrived having missed out on early vetting, exposure to new environments, and socialization with people outside their immediate caregivers. Now that they are living with MAGSR foster families, their opportunities are endless. All 13 puppies are going to see our amazing vetting partners so that we can begin vaccinations and make sure that everyone is healthy. In their foster homes, these puppies are learning about toys, treats, regular meals, and the comfort of soft, warm beds. They are also beginning the important process of learning the ins and outs of living in a home. As very intelligent pups everyone is excited to begin. As they move forward, it is critical that their new families provide the "Christmas puppies" with regular socialization with people and other animals. A well socialized pup will become a stable adult. Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, training, patience, and socialization, they will develop into good canine citizens. If you are interested in welcoming a member of the "Christmas puppy" litter into your household, ask to meet them today!

Updates:

Prancer has taken some time to overcome her rough start and start to take comfort in the people around her. As such, she is slower to warm up to new people but with patience, some ear scratches, treats and toys, you're rewarded with a sweet and comical companion! Prancer has excellent toy and ball drive and would be a great candidate for dog sports (FAST Cat or lure coursing anybody?). Not only does she have the drive itself but she is already perfecting her retrieval and "out"!when motivated with a great toy, she really has no fear and will show off her athleticisim, climbing, jumping and running over or into anything! She does great with another well adjusted dog to learn from-- she tends to blossom when she is with another dog who enjoys her company. She is very respectful of other dogs cues, but definitely appreciates a dog who wants to rough house with her. She does well with dog savvy cats but will chase if they run, so that is a work in progress for any family with feline companions. With a large amount of malinois in her lineage, she learns very fast and loves to have opportunities to work her brain and she has high energy levels that allow her to be an excellent play and exercise companion.

Claus's brother, Rudolph, joined the rescue with some unexpected medical needs that have required extra support.  He could really use your help.

Working closely with our amazing veterinary teams, Rudolph has begun seeing his regular vet to address typical puppy vetting needs as well as a specialist to address concerns about a preputial defect. Although it is unknown if this condition was congenital or trauma based, Rudolph needs a contrast study and preputial reconstruction in order to correct the defect and help him move forward. When combining Rudolph's presurgical care, surgical consult, contrast study, and surgical reconstruction, his care will cost more than four-thousand dollars. Having been a very good puppy throughout this process, we know that Santa has Rudolph on the top of his "nice" list and is working on finding him the perfect forever family. With surgery scheduled in early December, Rudolph is hoping to be healed for the holidays. Rudolph's care is very expensive, but we know that this special guy is worth the cost. Please consider supporting Rudolph for the holidays and donate to his care. Not only will your support help us get this little lovebug the help that he needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support other dogs with medical needs.

Ada

DESCRIPTION:

Ada and her buddy, Amelia, found themselves in a tough situation when their owner got into some trouble and the girls were confiscated. Although they were brought to a shelter where they waited for a forever family that would help them move forward, the girls were not one of the lucky ones that found a home. Staff members adored these girls and kept hoping to find them homes; however, with overcrowding at the shelter and no options available, the girls were placed on the euthanasia list. A final plea went out for help. Fortunately, this plea reached MAGSR. With no time to spare, we immediately stepped up and welcomed both girls into the family.

Ada and Amelia are incredibly sweet girls. Ada has done very well with new people and children. However, she can be a little shy at first and would prefer a family that will be patient as she gains confidence. Ada is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all GSDs crave. Clearly well socialized with other dogs, Ada seems to understand the ins and outs of the doggy world. Although we know that Ada is a love, we do not know anything about her past. As a result, she may need a little patience in her forever home learning the ins and outs of being part of a family. Training will go a long way with Ada. Not only will training help her develop a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her grow into a stable and confident canine citizen. Ada is looking for a forever family that will commit to her for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Sir Axyl

Color: Black and Tan
Current Size: 70 pounds

DESCRIPTION:

Sir Axyl was picked up as a stray and brought to a shelter. Although he was adopted out quickly, he was found running loose in a neighboring town a few months later. Based upon his condition, Sir Axyl had not been treated well. He was emaciated, missing fur, and in sad condition. Recognizing that Sir Axyl deserved to find a forever family that would love and care for him the way he deserved, the shelter began looking for a breed specific rescue that would find Sir Axyl the perfect placement. When we heard about his story, we knew that we needed to help. Team MAGSR immediately began putting plans together to welcome this sweet boy to the family.

Sir Axyl is one of the dogs who makes the world a happier place. He is stable, friendly, and loves everyone. Good with people of all ages, Sir Axyl enjoys the company of his people especially when they are open to a few snuggles. Good with other dogs, Sir Axyl is patient and friendly. Although we do not know anything about his past, we do know that Sir Axyl has known love and kindness at some point in his life and deserves so much more. Having the benefit of living in a foster home, Sir Axyl loves a warm bed and regular meals. He is housebroken and seems to understand many of the rules of a household. However, he will need time to adjust to his forever home. Already knowing a few commands, Sir Axyl is a rockstar on leash. However, further training is essential. Training will not only help Sir Axyl further develop his skills, but it will also help him build a strong and healthy relationship with his forever family. If Sir Axyl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today!

Updates:

Clarice's brother, Rudolph, joined the rescue with some unexpected medical needs that have required extra support.

DESCRIPTION:

Benny Blu, Ruby Ann, and Rosa Lea were dumped in a field in the south. Although this was witnessed, their owner could not be found. Alone and scared, the pups ran when rescuers came to get them. Knowing that these little ones would need help, rescuers waited them out and caught all three a few days later. Although they had a safe place to stay while waiting to be claimed, when no one came forward, we were asked to welcome these babies into the MAGSR family. Our team was thrilled to welcome all three to the rescue.

Benny Blu is a big, goofy puppy. He, like his sisters, clearly enjoys the company of her people and is happy to share endless hugs and kisses. Socialized with other animals, Benny Blu enjoys opportunities to play with other pups but tends to take a more dominant role. In new situations, Rosa Lea can be a little unsure. However, with patience and a little time to adjust, he does well. A good listener and very intelligent, Benny Blu will be a star at training class. Training is essential as it will help this handsome guy develop into a confident and stable adult dog. Although Benny Blu is an amazing guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, and fill your home with endless antics. With time, patience, training, and socialization, Benny Blu will develop into the good canine he is destined to be. Current Size: 55 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 60 lbs

Obedience Trained: Basic Commands

DESCRIPTION:

Theo was found dumped on a country road with another pup. Both pups were lucky as they were picked up by another rescue and brought to safety. Although they waited patiently for a family to claim them, no one came forward for either dog. Recognizing that these babies needed a rescue that could move them forward into safe and loving homes, both babies were transferred into MAGSR's care. Theo was adopted out as a baby. His family provided him with socialization and training opportunities, which has helped him develop the skills needed to meet with success. Unfortunately, Theo's family could no longer care for him. As a result, they reached out to MAGSR to return him to our care. We promised we would find Theo the perfect forever family.

This is a sweet, interactive, and playful boy. Having been well-socialized with dogs of all sizes, Theo enjoys the company of his furry companions and understands doggy social structure. Theo has also had the opportunity to socialize with people. Although he enjoys the company of a variety of people, he is uncomfortable with children. The fast movements, loud sounds, and sometimes less than gentle touches from children, can be intimidating to many animals. As a result, Theo is looking for a forever family without children so that he can enjoy a life without potential stressors. Having lived in a home, Theo has learned the ins and outs of family life. He is crate trained and housebroken. He greatly enjoys a comfortable bed and loves cuddles. Well versed with toys, Theo can happily play on his own or with a buddy. His goofy personality will keep you smiling. Having completed basic obedience, Theo already knows a lot of commands and has a great foundation. However, continued training is a must. Training is essential as it will not only help Theo develop a strong, healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. If your family is looking for an amazing pup with a great foundation of skills, ask to meet Theo today.

DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Gunther was picked up as a stray and brought to a high-kill shelter. Although he waited patiently for his family to claim him, no one stepped forward to bring him home. The moment his stray hold was completed, Gunther was in immediate danger as many dogs at this shelter do not make it out alive. Recognizing that this sweet guy deserved a chance, several groups began working to network Gunther. Fortunately, the right group heard about his need and welcomed him to safety while they looked for a breed specific rescue with an opening for this boy. When we heard that Gunther needed a safe place to land, our team immediately moved to welcome him to the MAGSR family.

Gunther is an active, engaging, and intelligent guy. As a young shepherd, he has endless energy to burn. Gunther is looking for a family that will help him exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. As is true of all shepherds, Gunther will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Although we do not know anything about his past, we do know that Gunther is ready to move forward. Recognizing that Gunther deserved the opportunity to decompress and adjust to the joys of living in a home, one of our amazing foster families stepped up and welcomed him to their home. They are already working with Gunther to teach him the ins and outs of living in a home. As he moves forward, Gunther will need to participate in training. DESCRIPTION:

Sugar Pie arrived in a random backyard in the south in labor. Fortunately, the family whose yard she chose was kind to her but recognized that she needed help and fast. While they waited for a stray hold, they immediately started searching for rescue help. Once the hold lifted, we welcomed Sugar Pie and her babies to the MAGSR family. Although Sugar Pie is an amazing mom, she was sick upon arrival and lost several of her puppies. The remaining babies, Cake, Crumble, Cobber, Sundae, Tort, and Pudding, have been well cared for by their mom and are strong, healthy pups.

Sugar Pie is an absolute love. She is friendly and affectionate with her foster family. Although Sugar Pie's pups have already moved to Maryland to find their forever homes, she is remaining in the south a little longer. This is due to the fact that she has a very high heartworm load and it is safer for her to remain with the experienced foster family that she is currently living with. While waiting for her happy ending, Sugar Pie is getting all of the love, care, and attention she needs to move forward. Sugar Pie is being well socialized with people and other dogs. She is learning the joys of living in a safe home and having a warm bed. Sugar Pie's heartworm treatment has begun. Although treatment is very expensive, this lovely momma is beyond worth the cost. Sugar Pie's entire heartworm treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Donations toward her care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help Sugar Pie get all of the care that she needs, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Sugar Pie will be ready for her new home soon. Would this lovely lady be the right match for you?

Updates:

Sugar Pie made her way North in March to finish out her heartworm treatment. ! Sugar Pie has completed her heartworm treatment and has finished the restriction period. She is eager to find her forever family! If you are looking for a cuddler and walking buddy this is girl for you! Sugar Pie just like her name is as sweet as pie and as laid back as they come. She is a dog that wants to please her people. This girl is crate trained and not a huge barker. Sugar Pie would love a family of her own to shower with her sweet personality. Sugar Pie would benefit from basic obedience and must go to a home with no small animals as she does have a high level of prey drive. Sugar Pie has been the perfect low-key foster. If she sounds like the girl for you please apply today.

Wolfgang and his buddy, Ty, were picked up as strays and brought into another rescue. Although shelters were contacted, fliers were posted, and contacts with several organizations were made, no one came to claim the boys. Without a family of their own, the rescue started looking for a breed specific rescue for the boys so that they would have their best chance moving forward. When we learned that Ty and Wolfgang needed a little help to move forward, MAGSR was honored to step in and help.

Wolfgang is a smart and affectionate guy. As a young boy, he is active, inquisitive, and energetic. He is looking for a family who will make sure that both his body and his mind are exercised on a daily basis. A huge fan of the outdoors, Wolfgang is happy to romp around in the yard and check out new toys with his people. Having lived within a pack of dogs in his foster home, Wolfgang has been enjoying socializing with dogs of various ages and temperaments. He can't help himself and gives kisses to everyone. Based upon his initial responses to living in a household, it appeared that Wolfgang had not spent much, if any time, in a home prior to his arrival in his foster home. However, he has quickly learned the joys of a soft bed, safe home, and regular meals. Although he is quickly learning the ins and outs of living in a household, Wolfgang will need time to adjust to his forever home. He will thrive with clear structure, routines, and leadership. As Wolfgang is in many ways still a pup, he will benefit greatly from training. Not only will this help him build a healthy relationship with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. Eager to learn, Wolfgang will be the star of the class. Wolfgang can't wait to find his forever family. Could that be with you?

Archie is a young and attractive boy. As is true of most young GSDs, he is inquisitive, intelligent, and active. Having spent the large majority of his time outside prior to his arrival with MAGSR, he is still learning the ins and outs of living in a household. Fortunately, he has had some help along the way that have helped him begin this transition. Sometimes you get lucky and the right people come along at the right time so that you can move forward.

Archie is social. He enjoys hanging out with his people as well as everyone in the neighborhood. With such a handsome face, he easily wins people over. Excited to meet new people, Archie can't help but say hi with kisses and wiggles. However, he is always hopeful that new people will reciprocate with treats, such as fruits, veggies, or boiled chicken, or even better, belly rubs! He could spend hours enjoying belly rubs on a daily basis. As an energetic guy, Archie is looking for a family that will exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. Having spent a lot of time outside prior to his arrival, Archie does seem to still enjoy being out in nature. Long walks and even runs would be good to help him burn energy. He also is happy to play a good game of fetch. Although Archie has begun learning some of his commands, training will be essential as he moves forward. Training will not only help Archie exercise his mind and develop into a good canine citizen, but it will also help him build a strong and healthy bond with his forever family.

Archie is looking for an active forever family that will give him a lifetime of love. Could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Stunning Luna was picked up as a stray in the south. Although she waited patiently for her family to come and claim her, no one stepped forward. As a timid girl at an overcrowded shelter, little Luna found herself on the euthanasia list without many options. Fortunately, the rescue community came together to try to help this girl. With some help from a few different people, Luna made her way to the MAGSR family. We are beyond glad we were able to help Luna move forward.

Luna is a sweet and inquisitive girl. Having been bounced around a bit, she can be a little timid in new situations but given a chance to adjust, she does well. As a pup, it is essential that Luna's family continue to socialize her with other people and animals in controlled settings. Luna has been around kids 8 and older and has done very well. She seems to enjoy their company but will still display puppy behaviors so she will need to be monitored. Luna has also met other dogs and a cat. She prefers other dogs that let her get comfortable first but does socialize well. Luna was more intimidated by the cat but was still curious. As is true of all GSDs, Luna will thrive in a household that provides structure, routine, and leadership. Training will go a long way as it will help Luna develop into a stable and confident adult dog.

Good With Kids: No
Good With Cats: Yes, with proper introduction
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Ozzy and his buddy, Saxom, were victims of a house fire. When their family lost their home, they realized that they could no longer provide their dogs with the care that they deserved. As a result, they surrendered the dogs to a shelter. Upon arrival, it was evident that Ozzy and Saxom lacked socialization. They had lived with a pack of dogs; however, it seems that they had limited exposure to new situations and new people. Shelter staff immediately began working with the boys to build trust and move them forward. However, they recognized that Ozzy and Saxom would likely not thrive in a shelter setting. As a result, they sent out a plea for rescue placement. When we learned about the boys, we put plans together to welcome both Ozzy and Saxom into the MAGSR family.

Ozzy is a timid yet affectionate guy. A little unsure with new people and new situations, Ozzy is looking for a patient household that will give him plenty of opportunities to socialize in a safe way with new people and new environments. Once given time to adjust, Ozzy is playful, affectionate, and a big leaner. He understands the joy of toys and particularly enjoys toys that squeak. Curious and affectionate, Ozzy is settling in with his foster family. As he moves forward, Ozzy will meet with success in a household that provides him with clear structure and routine. He thrives on leadership and confidence. Training is essential for Ozzy. Not only will it help him build a healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. Ozzy is looking for a patient forever family that has the time and energy to continue to move him forward. If this handsome guy sounds like the right match for you, ask to meet him today!

Updates:

Ozzy has adjusted well to his foster family and enjoys his daily routine. As a young guy, once comfortable, Ozzy has a lot of good energy that needs to be burned on a daily basis. A huge fan of a good, long walk, Ozzy loves to take in the world around him. He particularly loves to smell the flowers in the yards he passes. Still a little unsure with unknown people passing him, Ozzy is learning to come to a heel with his handler and walk calmly past other people in the neighborhood. He prefers to continue on his way without interaction from strangers. When not out and about learning about the world around him, Ozzy continues to enjoy daily playtime. Toys are endless entertainment and he doesn't need much help keeping himself occupied. Food based toys and activities have also become an exciting treat. At this time, Ozzy is housebroken and crate trained. He seems to understand the general expectations in the household. However, with any transition there is always the possibility of some accidents. Ozzy has also begun to pick up some basic commands, such as, sit, come, and crate. He will continue to develop basic skills with his foster family.

When in the shelter, Ozzy had an accident that resulted in some favoring of his back right leg. His foster family kept an eye on this and made sure that he got into a vet to be evaluated. When evaluated, concerns arose in regards to Ozzy's right elbow and his hips. Ozzy's right elbow has a united anconeal process (UAP). This is a disorder associated with the elbow that happens with a small bony projection, which is known as the anconeal process, does not unite and fuse with the ulna. As a critical aspect of the elbow joint, Ozzy does need surgical intervention to correct this disorder. He is on the schedule to meet with and be evaluated by a surgical specialist in late August. While at his appointment, a closer look at his hips will occur as his pelvis is moderately dysplastic with DJD remodeling on the right hip. Ozzy's surgery and associated rehab will be expensive. However, he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Ozzy's care. Your support will not only help us provide Ozzy with the medical care he needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs within the MAGSR family.

Although Ozzy has a few medical needs in play, he is continuing to look for the perfect forever family. If he sounds like the right guy for your household, ask to meet him today!

DESCRIPTION:

Lana and her buddy, Hank, lived in a home. However, the family often allowed the dogs to roam which angered people within the community. Unable to properly contain both dogs on the property, their family surrendered them to a shelter in the south. Unfortunately, all shelters are overwhelmed at this time which has been forcing staff to make very difficult decisions in regards to who survives. Owner surrenders are typically the first dogs to be euthanized. Knowing that both dogs would likely not survive, several groups began working together to try and find a rescue with the resources to help. Fortunately, a shelter partner reached out to MAGSR in the nick of time. We were pleased to have a place to welcome this pair and provide them with a safe option for moving forward.

Lovely Lana is an intelligent and interactive girl. As a young dog, she has a lot of good energy and is looking for an active household. Lana's forever family will not only need to make sure that they exercise her body on a daily basis but they will also need to exercise her mind. This will help her develop into a stable and confident adult. Although Lana has lived in a home, we do not know much about her life prior to her arrival in the MAGSR family. It is clear that Lana is an attentive girl and picks up new skills quickly particularly. Lana is looking for a forever family that will care for her for a lifetime. As is true of all shepherds, she will thrive in a household with clear structure, routine, and leadership. Although she is already learning a few basic commands, Lana will benefit greatly from training. Training is essential as it will not only help Lana develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that Lana is heartworm positive. This prognosis could have been avoided if Lana's family had kept her on preventatives. Although treatment is expensive, this gorgeous girl is beyond worth the cost. Lana's entire heartworm treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Donations toward her care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help this lovely girl but they will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Although treatment is expensive, this social guy is beyond worth the cost. Hank's entire heartworm treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Donations toward his care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help this handsome guy but they will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Hank will need to take it easy over the next couple months while he completes his treatment. However, this will help him develop a healthy bond with his forever family. If Hank sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Crimson was a stray who fortunately got picked up by a good samaritan and brought to a shelter. Once there, she waited patiently for a family of her very own. Unfortunately, no one came for Crimson. When contacted by another rescue to bring Crimson in, MAGSR stepped up.

Crimson is a beautiful and intelligent girl. She gains confidence from a calm and stable handler. Crimson, like all dogs, will benefit greatly from training as it will help her develop into a good canine citizen. At the same time training will also help Crimson bond to her new family. As Crimson is new to the rescue, we are still getting to know her. Please stay tuned for more updates.

Updates:

Lovely Crimson arrived in MAGSR’s care with some medical concerns that warranted immediate support. Unsure what was causing continuous gastro-intestinal issues, MAGSR was fortunate to have Crimson's primary vet and internal medicine specialist collaborate to determine best practices to meet her specific medical needs. This process has taken several months as Crimson's amazing team worked through options, medications, dietary changes, and procedures.

It has been determined that Crimson has megacolon, which can be best described as chronic constipation. As her colon is unable to efficiently remove the waste from her body, Crimson suffers from involuntary bowel movements. This can be uncomfortable as Crimson's bowel movements are directly linked to when her colon is overfull which forces the excess waste to overflow in order to release the pressure on her colon. If not kept clean, Crimson's back-end can become inflamed. Although she is able to produce some formed stool, Crimson does have residual leakage. She does have full control over her bladder and is able to wait to urinate until outside. In order to provide Crimson with some relief, she is on a prescription food with medication that is administered three times a day. Although this has reduced her symptoms a bit, unfortunately, this is not a cure all for Crimson's condition.

Looking for all possible solutions for this sweet girl, MAGSR began working with surgical specialists to see if Crimson was a potential candidate. The hope was to provide her with a surgical option that would bypass her colon. Unfortunately, after meeting with specialists, they determined that due to the loss of muscle control in her backend a surgical option would not be successful. Crimson will always be a dog with medical needs.

Crimson is looking for a very special forever family. This exceptional household will need to administer Crimson's medication three times a day, provide daily cleaning of her back-end for sanitary purposes, and bathe her at least two times a week. Due to her specific medical needs, it is recommended that Crimson's household be carpet free or that she be contained to a few rooms that lack carpet as she is simply unable to control her bowel movements and will have accidents. Ideally, Crimson is looking for a safe and loving home that can provide her with attention, affection, and a supply of comfortable blankets to lay on that can be easily laundered.

Crimson is a happy and loving dog. Her unique condition is not painful as long as she is provided with adequate care and kept clean. This lovely lady clearly loves life and is desperate for a family to call her very own. A big fan of people, the outside, and snow, Crimson's adorable personality quickly wins over everyone around her. As she is all about being the apple of your eye, Crimson would be most successful in a household where she can be the only dog. If your household is ready to love and support this sweet girl, please ask to meet her today.

Hello everyone this is Crimson...  Here's a little update: I've been with my foster daddies for 5 months now. At the beginning it was all new to me. I had a little trouble going up and down the steps but I quickly learned my zig zag move and have no more problems.  I'm excited to tell every one I have not 1 but 2 beds to call my own and I enjoy both of them very much. I love watching my big screen TV aka the windows, its always on and always interesting. I get to go on several walks a day in the park across from my foster home. I have learned how to potty in the back yard and I'm pleased to inform every one I have made a couple of friends. My foster daddies take very good care of me. I have learned a few tricks as well.  I'm so happy, I sleep wherever I want., especially beside my foster dad's chair and get plenty of love.  I want to thank everyone for the love and continued support and hope to find my forever home soon <3

Crimson adores kids, she will pull her foster towards kids at the park. She loves getting attention from the kids.

Obedience Trained: Partially
Altered: No

Good With Kids: No
Good With Cats: No

DESCRIPTION:

Miss Jackie and her housemate, Mr. Jack, were used for puppies. Their lives have been filled with little care, comfort, or kindness. When their owner decided that it was time for them to move on, their future options were very limited. Fortunately, another rescue heard about their situation and reached out to MAGSR for help.

Although we knew that both would need some additional love and attention, we also knew they deserved kindness and compassion. Miss Jackie is friendly, interactive, and goofy with her people. She seeks out attention from everyone around and is a bit of a social butterfly. Although Miss Jackie is wonderful with her people, she is not a huge fan of other furry creatures. With a high prey drive, Jackie likely needed this to survive the first 5 years of her life. As a result, she is looking for a home where she can be the sole focus of the family. Miss Jackie has done very well in her previous foster home. She is crate trained and house broken. However, once properly adjusted, she is able to move about freely in the house without causing issues when alone. Having lived in a household, Miss Jackie does understand the rules of living in a home; however, she will need to adjust to the general routine and structure of her forever home. An intelligent girl, Jackie has had some training and knows many of her basic commands. Further training is always positive as this will help Jackie exercise her mind as well as develop a healthy bond with her forever family.

Miss Jackie is a lovely lady who is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the leadership, safety, and love that she so clearly deserves. Could this be with you?

Updates:

Miss Jackie is a very sweet girl. She seems to love all humans and loves attention. She is a laid back, easy going dog. She loves going for long walks. She likes playing with certain toys. She is housebroken and crate trained. Miss Jackie prefers male dogs over females, she can be quite reactive to female dogs. She will get along with most male dogs, but when she wants her own space she'll react. I think it's safe to say Miss Jackie likes being the boss and if she had her choice she would like to be the only dog in the house.

Lovely Layla was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. She waited patiently for a family to come and claim her; however, no one stepped forward for this amazing girl. As shelters everywhere are at capacity, staff members began reaching out to rescues for help as they knew that Layla was very special and deserved every chance to find a forever family that would love her for a lifetime. When MAGSR heard the plea for Layla, our team immediately began making preparations to welcome her to the rescue.

Layla is a sweet and affectionate girl. With a goofy personality, it is impossible to avoid smiling when in her presence. She simply spreads joy wherever she goes. Clearly well-socialized, Layla enjoys the company of both human and furry companions. As she arrived at the shelter as a stray, we do not know much about her history or her knowledge of living in a home. However, we do know that someone clearly cared for her at some point and taught her the joy of playtime, snuggles, and some extra pets. Layla is looking for a household that will provide her with the structure, routine, stability, and leadership that all shepherds crave. History: Cobbler was returned at age 8 months. This is her original write-up: Lovely Cobbler, her mom - Sugar Pie - and her five siblings - Tort, Cake, Crumble, Pudding, and Sundae - were dumped in the south when the puppies were just hours old. Fortunately, the right people found them and immediately started networking to help this family move forward. With rescue support provided and a plan in place, the little family was moved into an experienced foster home so that they could receive the love and attention needed to survive. Although they struggled at first, with time, attention, and some extra love, the pups and their mom pulled through.  The dessert puppies are now ready to move forward into their forever families. These adorable little fluffy puppies have had the benefit of living with a loving home. Although they have been well socialized with people and other dogs, it is critical that their new families continue this process as it will help them develop into stable adults. The dessert puppies are absolute sweethearts; however, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy energy and antics. They get into things, whine, and will chew on inappropriate items. With time, training, and patience, Cobbler will develop into the good canine citizen we know she is destined to become. Cobbler is looking for a loving forever home that will commit to her for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely little Cobbler is one of Sugar Pie's puppies. Having been born into the rescue, we have had the unique opportunity to watch her grow. Adopted as a puppy, Cobbler's family adored her. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, they could no longer provide for her. Recognizing that Cobbler deserved a safe and loving forever family, they contacted MAGSR to make sure that Cobbler could move forward safely. We immediately welcomed this lovely little girl back into the MAGSR family at 9 months old and promised that we would find her the perfect forever home.

As a young, affectionate, and energetic girl, Cobbler is looking for an active family that will exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. She will happily come along for a long walk, run, or hike filling each adventure with puppy smiles and love. As a young dog, it is imperative that Cobbler's family continue to socialize her with new people and animals in controlled settings. This will help her develop into a stable and confident adult. Cobbler has had the luck of having lived in a loving home, as a result, she knows many of the ins and outs of household rules. However, she will need to adjust to the structure, routine, rules of her forever home. This will take time and patience as Cobbler learns expectations. Training will be very important for Cobbler as she moves forward. Not only will it help her develop a health bond with her family, but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. DESCRIPTION:

Joyful Cooper has been moved about a few times in his young life. However, he was lucky that the right people stepped in and recognized that a young, social guy like him would thrive in a household that had the time and energy to work with him. So, they brought Cooper to a local shelter where staff members fell in love with this interactive guy. Although Cooper easily won over the hearts of the shelter team, they recognized that he would be most successful if he found placement through a rescue. When we heard about Cooper's need for placement, we immediately welcomed him to the MAGSR family.

Cooper is an interactive and social boy. He clearly has had the opportunity to interact with others throughout his puppyhood. Although Cooper definitely has a great start, continued socialization is imperative to his success as an adult. Typical of most young GSDs, Cooper has a lot of energy. It will be essential that Cooper's family exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. This will help him maintain a stable and confident mindset. Although Cooper is still very young, he has already begun to learn some basic commands. His intelligence, willingness to please, and his food motivation makes him a great student. Cooper will excel in training class. Training will not only help Cooper develop a strong and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen that we know that he is destined to be. Cooper is looking for a loving and active household who will love him for a lifetime. Could this be with you?

Updates:

Cooper has been with us for a little over a week, and he is already running with ur pack of two GSDs, Nala and Vader.  He clearly looks up to Vader, and he desperately wants to win over Nala (who is not as friendly as Vader!).  He hasd had no issues socializing with Nala and Vader, and he would play with Vader 24/7 if Vader would relent and do so.  He has boundless energy, but he is, thankfully, good at entertaining himself.  He enjoys chewing all shapes, sizes, and types of bones and tugging on the tuffy toy rings.  He is starved for love and comes by regularly for pets and snuggles when we are sitting on the couch.

Cooper came to us after a few weeks of formal training, and he knows and understands his commands.  Temptation sometimes get the best of him, but he gets back in line easily when he is corrected. He is housebroken and can tell you when he needs to go out (he paces in a circle or scratches the door), and he sleeps in our mudroom at night (gated in) with no barking or other issues.  He walks fairly well on the leash.  He is occasionally reactive to another dog, but it is clearly fear rather than aggression. He is a voracious eater, which is good news because he needs to gain some weight!

The original description uses the best word we can think of for Cooper – he is joyful.  Despite his rough start in life, he is a happy, easygoing, loving, playful dog. Any family would be lucky to have Cooper.

DESCRIPTION:

Alpha and Beta appeared outside the home of an experienced GSD family. Recognizing the boys needed a safe place to stay while their family was located, this family brought the boys in and began making calls to local vets, shelters, and lost dog groups. Although word quickly spread that Alpha and Beta had been found and were safe, no one came to bring the boys home. When their stray hold ended, this family began working with local rescues to move the boys forward so that they could be safely placed in a loving forever home. As a member of the rescue network contacted to support Alpha and Beta, MAGSR was happy to step forward and help the boys move into the rescue family.

Beta is in many ways your typical young, energetic, and inquisitive guy. However, it appears that Beta lacks experience with new people and experiences, as a result, he can be timid and a little jumpy at first. When given time to adjust, Beta is affectionate and playful. He enjoys giving hugs and kisses, but he will need to learn that this is not always appropriate. As is true of all young dogs, Beta will be most successful if placed in a home with clear structure, routine, and leadership. Continued socialization is essential as Beta will need to learn how to navigate new environments and new people confidently. Training will help Beta as he continues to develop the stability and confidence needed to become a good canine citizen. If you are looking for a sweet, deserving guy, who will keep you entertained with teenage antics, ask to meet Beta today!

DESCRIPTION:

Erica was picked up in the south and brought to a local shelter. Shelter staff immediately fell in love with this delightful girl and started pleading for a rescue placement. Fortunately, we were able to step forward and welcome this lovely girl into the MAGSR family.

Erica is the definition of gentle giant. She is easy to walk on leash and friendly with everyone she meets. Erica rides well in the car but is still learning the best way to get up into larger vehicles. We are still getting to know this big, beautiful girl and will post updates soon. If Erica sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:

Erica has been with us in her foster home for a few days now, and is still settling in. We've learned a few things about her in this short time. She is definitely a "low-key" kinda gal, well-suited for a quiet, less active home. We believe she is part (or whole) Anatolian shepherd, and shows many of the characteristics of this breed. She bonds quickly to her care-giver (that's me!) but does not exhibit separation-anxiety at all; she has been left alone for several hours by herself without problems. She is happy to greet me at the door when I return, but then just retreats to her "spot"  to watch me.

Erica has obviously lived in a home, as she is completely housebroken and waits at the door to tell you she needs outside. She was reported to being accepting of a crate, but that has not been my experience with her - she registered her displeasure at being crated, and has been just fine, uncrated, in my home. She is not destructive at all and stays off the furniture (a rule in my household). Erica is a big girl, but at 90+ lbs she is not overweight for her breeding - she has a visible "waist" when viewed from above. She eats whatever is in her dog bowl, has adjusted to feed changes just fine, and takes treats very gently. Erica walks well on leash and follows my lead. She knows very few commands but is easy to handle.

Erica is looking for her perfect home, one without small animals, and with folks who will love her and care for her for the rest of her life. If your household seeks a "gentle giant" companion dog, please ask to meet Erica.

Erica truly is a gentle giant but she has some pep in her, don't let her plodding walk fool you! She most definitely has the character traits of an Anatolian with some GSD/Mastiff thrown in plus or minus some. Independence, thy name is Erica.  She needs time to warm up and feel comfortable - After a little over a week we actually got play bows, mini zoomies, and back wiggles with feet dancing. She actually loves walks and hikes (but I don't see her as a jogging partner). She is fine with people, shopping carts and cars and she rides well in the car.  Erica is good with other dogs, however it takes some time to warm up and once she gets a chance to see and smell other dogs, she is happy for them to go on walks with her. She walks well on a leash -- not at a heel, just not pulling. If anything she needs a few gentle tugs to get a move on when there is an interesting smell distraction.  She does not counter surf; however, anything lower than a standard table (basically, lower than her head) is up for grabs if left unattended.  Erica loves people including children.   She absolutely LOVES getting her ears and neck scratched. Her favorite way of greeting people she knows is to put her head between your legs to be sure you can reach those special spots. If you sit on the floor she will make sure you have access to her head. She does not get up on furniture (except a very well placed bench that allows for a good view outside) but she did realize what dog beds were after a bit of persuasion.  While she is somewhat food motivated she does not know any obedience skills and anyone who wants to do training will need to take it very slow and patiently. If you are looking for a gentle soul to share your home, keep you company on walks, and be there for petting when a fur fix is needed, Erica is the pup for you.

Erica was adopted a year and a half ago from MAGSR. She was adored by her family and brought every member of the household endless joy. Unfortunately, a circumstance beyond their control arose which resulted in the need to return Erica to MAGSR. Although this was a very difficult decision, Erica's family knew that we would make sure she found an amazing family that would shower her with a lifetime of love and affection.

Understandably, Erica is a little confused by the recent changes in her life. We are giving her the chance to decompress and settle back into the rescue. Although she is a little unsure right now, Erica has maintained her sweet personality.  Erica is looking for a forever family that will make sure she continues to get daily walks and exercise. This will help her stay active and healthy. She would love a family that also enjoys some daily snuggles. Children in the home would be an added bonus as she simply adores them. As is true of all dogs, Erica is looking for a family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and consistency needed to feel "at home." If your household is looking for a loving lady with a gentle presence, ask to meet Erica today.

DESCRIPTION:

The Hunger Games puppies - Peeta, Katniss, Thresh, Rue, Gale, and Finnick - were an accidental litter in the south. Although they were well-cared for as babies, as they grew, they became too much for their family. Recognizing that they were unable to provide a large number of babies with what they needed, their family surrendered them to a shelter. Unfortunately, with the overwhelming number of dogs needing placements in shelters right now, owner surrenders are the first dogs to be euthanized. The minute these babies entered the building they were in danger. Trying to do everything they could to keep this group alive, shelter staff began pleading for rescue help. When we heard about their plight, our team knew we needed to welcome the Hunger Games family to MAGSR.

Peeta is a confident and intelligent guy. As an active young pup, Peeta is looking for a family that can give him the time, attention, and training that will help him meet with success. Still a very young dog, it is essential that Peeta continue to socialize regularly. This will help him develop a stable personality. Although Peeta is a stunning guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with puppy antics. With time, patience, training and socialization, Peeta will develop into the good canine citizen that we know he is destined to be. If this handsome guy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Angus was picked up as a stray and brought to animal control. Upon arrival it was clear that Angus had some medical needs that would require quick attention. Missing hair over a large portion of his body with open sores, it was obvious to shelter staff that Angus had likely been in some pain for a while. Although staff waited for Angus' family to claim him, no one stepped forward. Recognizing that Angus would be most successful if placed within a rescue, staff members reached out to MAGSR for help. We immediately welcomed Angus to the MAGSR family.

Although Angus is in rough shape, he has the sweetest soul. A lover of everyone and everything, Angus enjoys spending time with kids, adults, and other dogs. He is even good with cats. Unfortunately, we do not know much about his past; however, it is clear that someone helped him develop into a social guy. His lovely personality shines through even with all the pain he must be in. Our team is already putting things in place to help lessen Angus' pain and get him the care he needs. He is lucky to have been placed with a loving foster family who will continue to help Angus move forward. As is true of all GSDs Angus will be most successful in a household with clear structure, routine, and leadership. These are essential qualities of a GSD home. He will also benefit from training as this will help Angus develop into a good canine citizen. Angus is looking for a loving forever home that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

DESCRIPTION:

Adorable Albus is one of 11 puppies and a mama that were part of a cruelty case within Maryland. Upon arrival, this sweet litter of pups quickly won over all the staff within the shelter; however,  they knew this family needed to move into the safety of a rescue immediately so they could move forward and find loving forever families.  When asked if we could help this litter of 11 babies and mama, team MAGSR stepped up and welcomed the Hogwarts family to the rescue.

Albus is a playful and active guy. He enjoys the company of other animals. Like his brothers and sisters, he is working on socialization and house manners. Fortunately, our Hogwarts puppies have a good start already as they are sweet and friendly pups who happily soak up all of the love and attention they can find. Living with amazing foster families, each of the Hogwarts puppies is starting to learn all of the important things they will need to know in order to develop into stable and confident adult dogs. Although puppies bring endless joy to everyone they encounter, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, structure, and routine, they will develop into incredible dogs. If these babies sound like the right match for your household, ask to meet one of them today!

Updates:

Albus is a handsome pup in search of his forever home! He is going to be a big dog.  As a puppy he needs basic obedience and continued work for potty training, crate training and leash training.  He is very inquisitive and enjoys exploring and checking out everyone and everything!  He loves his Nylabones, stuffless stuffies, rope toys, treat filled kongs and snuffle mats! He really enjoys the company of other people and dogs.  I’m sure he would love a doggie sibling to play with!  He gets along well with his older foster sisters. Albus is currently working on potty training, crate training, sitting, and house manners. Albus loves to talk and makes noises often- ranging from little grunts and squeaks to barking. Therefore he would not be a great candidate for close quarter living.

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Mona Mi was picked up as a stray in a busy city and brought to the local animal shelter. Upon entering the shelter, it was clear that this little girl was in need of significant medical support. Emaciated, missing a significant amount of her fur, covered in scabs, and clearly in pain, Mona Mi needed help and quickly. Although shelter staff began putting care in place, they knew Mona Mi needed to be transferred to a rescue who could get this little girl the care she needed with a private vet. When asked if we could help Mona Mi move forward, we immediately welcomed her into the MAGSR family.

Having joined the MAGSR family, Mona Mi was moved to one of our vets in order to help her begin the healing process. It was determined that she had contracted demodex mange which had developed into a secondary skin infection. With a good exam, antibiotics, medicated baths, and fantastic vetting care, Mona Mi has made significant strides. She is feeling much more like a pup and ready to learn about the world. Although a little hesitant at first, when given a little time to adjust to new people and situations, Mona Mi is a ball of fun. She is full of life and ready to move forward. As is true of all young shepherds, Mona Mi craves structure, routine, and leadership. She has a lot to learn but is eager to start. It is critical that Mona Mi's forever family get her into training. Training is important as it will not only help her develop a strong, healthy bond with her family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult. Mona Mi is ready for her forever family. Could that be you?

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Aspen is a mature lady who brought nothing but joy to her family. Her life took a bit of a turn when her primary caretaker suddenly passed away and no one was left that could care for her. Recognizing that Aspen needed a soft place to land, she was returned to the MAGSR family with hopes that a loving family would welcome her into their home for her golden years.

Aspen is a love. Her family set her up for success by making sure she was well socialized, learned manners, and every opportunity to shine. They doted on her and she repaid them with unwavering loyalty and love. Aspen loves people of all ages. She is also a fan of large male dogs. In fact, she has been participating in doggy day care for years and has a blast with her buddies there. Having lived in a wonderful home for many years, Aspen understands the ins and outs of living in a household. However, as is true of any dog, she will need time to adjust to the new routine of her adoptive home. As a senior pup, Aspen definitely enjoys her walks and daily playtime, but she also enjoys a good nap and some quiet time as well. She is at an age where she has a nice balance of energy. Although Aspen has completed basic training, she looks forward to continuing to train with her new family. Training will not only help Aspen fine tune her skills, but it will also help her create a strong and healthy bond with her new family. Aspen is looking for a loving family that will continue to provide her with the love and attention she so clearly deserves. If Aspen sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today!
