Zoey is 3 years old and her family made the hard decision to surrender her to us. She is all around a perfect princess. She is brilliant, loyal, loving, and loves her people. She is fully housebroken, potty trained, and has been crated as a younger dog.Once she settles in her new home, she will likely be able to earn freedom in the house quickly. Zoey will never leave your side. We have a silly disorder we diagnosed her with (FOMO, fear of missing out). She loves to be where the people are. She is excellent with kids (we are unsure at this time about toddlers and younger) and in her previous home slept with one of every night. Playing ball is her favorite past time. Well behaved when it comes to food, Zoey does not beg as she has never exposed her to table scraps or fed her from her family's plates; however, she does love carrots. When meeting new people, it may take Zoey a few minutes to warm up, however, she settles in nicely once she understands there isn't a threat. Although Zoey has a great bark, she is really just a big baby. If Zoey sounds like a good match for your household, please ask about her today.

Boomer cannot be any cuter and is absolutely a great little boy, happy go lucky and loves to give puppy kisses. Boomer has a lot to learn about being a good canine citizen and will require training. Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment. Puppies are full of energy and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Boomer will become even more of an amazing boy than he already is. If interested and he sounds like a good match for your family, please submit an adoption application!

Ryder found himself in a shelter in North Carolina and was running out of rescue options. As luck would have it there happened to be two MAGSR volunteers in that very same shelter picking up four sweet puppies to bring into the MAGSR family. They had an opportunity to meet this regal boy and knew they wanted to save him. Emails were sent and arrangements were made and a week later this gentle giant made his way to Maryland. Unfortunately, this sweet boy lived a life of neglect as he came in matted and with sores on his ears. MAGSR had him vetted as soon as we were able to and after completion of blood work we received the bad news that he was suffering from Heartworm disease, Ehrlichia, and Lymes. Ryder was started on medications and a Heartworm protocol that will get him healthy and feeling good again. With all that said, even though this poor boy felt miserable he is nothing but sweet Southern charm. In fact, he was so full of charm within minutes he won over the hearts of those volunteers that drove eight hours roundtrip to pick up this sweet boy and transport him to MAGSR. If this gentle giant sounds like he may fit your family please fill out an application now!

Piper is a very lovable young lady after she gets to know you. In typical German Shepherd fashion, she is hesitant with new people especially if they are scared or unsure of themselves. She responds well to confident people, and then is eager to please. Piper needs to be socialized with strangers under the supervision of a confident handler. She is a young lady with lots of energy so exercise and training will be a must to keep her on her best behavior.
Piper rides well in a car and loves to go on walks. She has good leash manners for her age and lack of training. Piper has lived in a home with 7 other dogs while in foster without any issues. She crates well and seems to be house broken (no accidents in 2 weeks!). While in her foster home she has been very well behaved. If you are willing to put in the time to train and socialize Piper, this girl will make a wonderful family member. Can you see her in your family?

Prax was surrendered to a shelter as he enjoyed running through the family's electric fence in order to explore the neighborhood. As a 90lb shepherd with a busy nose, the electric fence didn't seem to be much of a barrier for Prax particularly, if there was something interesting on the other side. Although losing his family must have been very confusing, Prax's goofy, fun-loving, and affectionate personality has remained intact. Prax is a social guy. Delighted by the opportunity to meet new people, Prax is all about big tail wags, wiggles, and kisses. Although he seems to enjoy the company of children, he would be best suited for a household with older children as his exuberance and size can be too much for little ones.
At this time Prax is housebroken and crate trained. He enjoys the option of taking breaks in his crate and settles nicely when asked to load up. Car rides are a breeze for this big guy as he quickly settles in for the ride. Although it is apparent that Prax spent very little time on leash prior to his arrival at MAGSR, he is quickly developing his leash skills and a few commands. This may have something to do with his love for long walks and regular runs with his foster family. It is apparent that Prax is an intelligent guy who likes clear direction and leadership from his handler. With these components in place, Prax will thrive in his forever home. If Prax sounds like a good match for your family, ask to meet him today.

Sugar was a stray to the shelter, so we have no history for her. We do know she is sugar and spice and everything nice. She has tested positive for Heartworms which is so easily avoidable with monthly heartworm preventatives. She will undergo Heartworm treatment which is paid for by MAGSR. Donations towards her treatment are kindly accepted. She is underweight, but with proper nutrition she will be gaining weight in no time. She also arrived at the shelter with a wound on her neck which resembles that of an embedded collar. Her neck is being cared for and on its way to healing. Sugar has met both male and female dogs, she did much better with the males, but was dominant over the females. It is best for Sugar to not be placed in a home with other female dogs for this reason. Watch for updates on this sweet girl.

I have settled nicely into my foster home. At first I was a little shy and skittish and it took a lot of coaxing to understand that there is only love, treats and kisses in this house. I still creep out of my crate but at least I am coming out of my own free will. In my short time here I have learned to fetch....and I bring it back! I love to play with my big squeaky carrot that came to my foster house with me. I'm not really fond of my crate, but realize sometimes I need to go in it. I haven't had an accident in the house in over a week and a half so my foster mom thinks I'm housebroken. There are two resident dogs in the house, and I don't know how to play with them, but I have stopped growling when they come near me or my crate. There may just be a bit of an adjustment time with other pups, because I have already started getting the idea that the other dogs might not be so bad! I'm dying to play with the guinea pig so my foster mom thinks I may have a little too much fun with small animals, (and yes, cats are small animals). I'm a fantastic car rider and jump right in for whatever adventure awaits. When we're out I'm very gracious and love the attention I get. If I sound like a good fit for your family please let us know! I look forward to meeting someone who will love me forever!

Bubba was surrendered to a shelter as he was too big and had too much energy for his prior person. At only 11 months old he is a big boy, but he was never provided training or guidance, this would have helped him to learn, along with provide daily exercise to help burn his puppy energy. Bubba gets along fine with other dogs, but he stands back and watches first before engaging in play. He has no idea what to do with toys. He is big, strong and has lots to learn. Training along with structure is crucial with his new family As he is new to us we are just learning more about him, please watch for updates.

Riley was surrendered as her family was moving. She lived her life on a farm with lots of room to run. We are told she really enjoys children and loved the grandchildren. We have yet to introduce her to or see her interact with children. Riley has a very plush coat which will take extra time brushing her so that matts do not form in her fur. She is a very sweet and friendly girl, settling in nicely at her foster families home. As she just arrived in our care we are still learning more about her, please check back for updates from her foster family

Foxtrot was surrendered to a shelter for being too active. Imagine a 1 year old GSD puppy, who has had no training being too active. Sadly, too many people think dogs will train themselves, and have no idea how much exercise and mental stimulation a GSD requires. Foxtrot’s mannerisms are very much still puppy-like. He is a sweet, loving boy looking for someone to provide him with training and structure so he can be the best he can be. As he is still new to us we are still learning more about him, please watch for updates.

One of the largest puppy mill busts found hundreds of German Shepherd's living in absolute filth and in horrendous condition. Ankle deep mud and feces mixed with urine, no adequate shelter, lacking food and clean water is how these dogs were left to live, many for years. The urgent call was made and MAGSR knew we had to take in as many as possible. We now have 38 dogs that have a multitude of medical needs that we are addressing, and they need to learn to trust humans. All dogs are scared, some are shut down, but our volunteers and vets will get them on their road to recovery. It will be awhile before these dogs are ready for adoption, so please be patient and watch for updates.
An undertaking of this size for an all-volunteer rescue is quite a task, but one we are meeting it head on. Many of the dogs require medical boarding so that they can receive the best possible care. We are committed to providing everything they need, not only medically, but emotionally. Our medical costs are going to be at an amount we have never seen before. We need your help, the dogs need your help. Please donate , your donation will go towards their ongoing care, medical needs, emotional needs and help them on their road to recovery and a brighter future.

Thankfully, Casen was given up as he lived his life tied up outside. This is no life for any dog, we have promised Casen he will never live outside again. He is underweight, needing to gain approximately 20 lbs, we are working on fattening him up with good nutrition. With spending his life tied up it’s amazing that he is such a sweet, calm boy. He now loves to follow around his person and being loved on. Their were children in his prior home that ran around and played outside in the yard where he was tied up, he had no bad reactions towards them, and only wanted to engage in the fun. This was limited by the rope he was tied up with. As he is new to us we are learning more about him, please watch for updates.

Roxy is a sweet girl, but she does like to go slow with meeting new people. She is timid at first and may back off when first meeting new people, but comes around with a little time. At 9 years old she has a nice lower energy about her than that of a younger dog. If you are looking for a lower key girl, a dog to go on leisurely strolls with then Roxy is your girl. She does have some skin issues that we are addressing. As she is new to us we are still learning more about her, please look for updates from her foster family.

Stark was surrendered to a shelter for barking. He lived his life tethered outside or in the garage. He lived with other large dogs and did well with them. He is described as being playful. He will require training to help him learn leash skills and house manners. His foster has started the process, but it is important that his new family continues with training. Stark is now looking for a home where he will enjoy the comforts of living indoors, a comfy bed and a family that will care for and love him for his lifetime.

Zophia found herself as a stray to a shelter where no one came for her, we have no history for her. She is now safe in our care and looking for a forever home and family. Her introductions to male dogs went much better than that with female dogs. She is a dominant female with other female dogs, for this reason she only wants to share her home with male dogs. As she is new to us we have a lot to learn about her, please watch for updates.
