Duke and King
ADOPTED 03/22/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Duke and his buddy, King, were surrendered to a shelter when their owner could no longer afford to provide them with the care they needed. When the boys arrived at the shelter, staff immediately realized that they were a special pair. Recognizing that Duke and King would have their best chance at remaining together in a forever home if they were placed in a rescue, the shelter reached out to MAGSR; we were happy to jump in and help out as this adorable pair was too sweet to pass up!
MAGSR has a long-standing policy of not leaving families behind. When we commit to a dog, we commit to the entire canine family whether or not they are GSDs. All members of a family are welcomed into MAGSR with the promise of finding everyone safe and loving forever homes.
King is a handsome, happy-go-lucky two year old purebred GSD that draws his security and confidence from his ten year old Jack Russell Terrier brother Duke! Just as King depends on Duke, Duke, who is blind, depends on King to guide him through life. This pair is not only bonded, but they are absolutely dependent on one another. They thrive together.
Duke is an absolute sweetheart and as laid back as they come. His disability does not seem to slow this little guy down! He is a happy little guy that manages daily life just fine. Dogs are creatures of habits and have incredible memories so learning the lay of your home and yard will be an easy next step for Duke.
Duke and King, our sweet odd couple, are a special pair in need of a forever home. If you could see them fitting into your family please inquire today!!
Bastille
ADOPTED 03/22/2021!
Good With Kids: Older Kids Only
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
One of the largest puppy mill busts found hundreds of German Shepherd's living in absolute filth and in horrendous condition. Ankle deep mud and feces mixed with urine, no adequate shelter, lacking food and clean water is how these dogs were left to live, many for years. The urgent call was made and MAGSR knew we had to take in as many as possible. We now have 38 dogs that have a multitude of medical needs that we are addressing, and they need to learn to trust humans. All dogs are scared, some are shut down, but our volunteers and vets will get them on their road to recovery. It will be awhile before these dogs are ready for adoption, so please be patient and watch for updates.
An undertaking of this size for an all-volunteer rescue is quite a task, but one we are meeting it head on. Many of the dogs require medical boarding so that they can receive the best possible care. We are committed to providing everything they need, not only medically, but emotionally. Our medical costs are going to be at an amount we have never seen before. We need your help, the dogs need your help. Please donate , your donation will go towards their ongoing care, medical needs, emotional needs and help them on their road to recovery and a brighter future.
Updates:Bastille is making daily strides. She is still a shy girl and you have to make slow movements with her as she still spooks easily. She remains a flight risk and must remain on a leash at all times even in the home. She is doing much better going in to a crate and once in sleeps quietly for at least 9 hours at night. She has not had any accidents in her crate and is doing well house breaking. She can go about 9 hours a typical work day and not have an accident. We are working diligently on her leash manners and she is responding very well. She really enjoys walks and is starting to open up and sneak some kisses and meet you with tail wags. She is initiating play with other dogs in the home and is overall a very sweet girl. We are beginning on some basic obedience commands. Lastly, Bastille is treat motivated, gentle in taking them and absolutely loves marrow bones and peanut butter. She has shown no signs of food aggression. If interested in this stunning girl, please contact us to meet her.
Through no fault of her own Bastille was returned back to MAGSR, her family loved her but their busy household caused her a lot of anxiety and they felt this was no longer fair to her.
Bastille would do great in a less busy home with a stable dog to help calm her anxiety.
Myna
ADOPTED 03/22/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
A good samaritan found little miss Myna wandering alone in a busy city. Knowing that this little girl needed a safe refuge, she was brought to a shelter where she waited for someone to come and claim her. When no one came for little Myna, MAGSR stepped in to help her find a loving forever home. Myna is a sweetheart who can be a little shy with new people. When given time to warm up her personality shines. As is true of all puppies, Myna will benefit from socialization and training. This will help her develop the skills needed to develop into a good canine citizen. Myna is currently living in a loving foster family; they are starting to teach her all of the ins and outs of living in a household. As they get to know Myna better, they will post updates here. If sweet Myna sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today!
Louis
ADOPTED 03/19/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Sweet and handsome Louis was found wandering around as a stray in a not so good area. Fortunately, some kind people found him and brought him to the safe location where he waited for a family to come and claim him. When no one came for Louis, he was welcomed into the MAGSR family with the promise that we would find him a loving forever home. Louis is as sweet as they come. He is friendly with both people and dogs. In many ways Louis is a blank slate who is ready to move forward with his new family. Like all dogs, Louis will benefit from training as it will not only help him integrate into his new family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Louis is looking for a forever family that will commit to him for a lifetime. If Louis sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today.
Teddy
ADOPTED 03/16/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Teddy and his brother, Milton, are siblings from different litters. They were living with their parents and a few other dogs on a breeder's property. When the owner could no longer keep the dogs safe, they were surrendered to another rescue. Recognizing that both boys would likely have their best shot at finding their forever home in another region, Teddy and Milton were transferred to MAGSR.
Teddy is a young and friendly guy. Having grown up with dogs of a variety of ages, he enjoys the company of other dogs. Teddy is playful and interactive. According to his owner, Teddy has grown up with children and did well with them. Although we know that Teddy had an owner, we are not sure if he was kept as an inside dog or an outside dog. We do know that he did not have any vetting prior to his arrival at MAGSR. Unfortunately, Teddy is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if he had been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Teddy has already begun his heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Teddy's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Teddy is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Teddy's treatment. Your generosity will help us save him and other dogs with medical needs. Although Teddy will need to take it slow over the next few months, he will be back to full strength once his treatment is finished. If your household is looking for a sweet, beautiful guy, please ask to meet him today.
Sheena
ADOPTED 03/15/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Sheena is a survivor. This special and incredibly sweet girl was used for years as a breeding dog. It was evident when rescuers came in to get her that this lovely lady had endured great pain and hardship. Emaciated and chained outside, Sheena was simply being used for puppy production.
Although Sheena is a victim of cruelty and neglect, this lovely lady has the sweetest disposition. She is an incredible companion and has been friendly with everyone she has met. Our volunteers are simply in awe of her strength and resilience. Now that Sheena has joined the MAGSR family, she is experiencing kindness and love. Sheena is learning the rules of a household, basic commands, and the joy of a comfortable bed. At this time, Sheena is waiting patiently for a forever home that will provide her with the care and kindness she deserves. If Sheena sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet her today.
Updates:Sheena was used for breeding all of her life until she was rescued with her eight puppies. She is loving life with her foster family and has fit in quite well. Sheena is housebroken, learning basic obedience and loves belly rubs. She will take belly rubs over treats. She is good with cats and small dogs, she plays gently with other dogs. She will growl if another dog comes near her food bowl while eating but she stops immediately when corrected. Sheena does have some health issues that she is being treated for. She is on antibiotics for a skin infection, she takes dasuquin for her joints. Sheena will have to have eye drops for the rest of her life because she has pannus and is partially blind. It is hard for her to see in the dark. But with all that she has been through, she is happy and accepting of meeting people with lots of tail wags and loves to be with her humans.
Sheena is a very affectionate girl. She loves snuggles and will actively seek attention but is respectful of our rules about no dogs on the furniture. She's getting along pretty well with the resident Male GSD, with only a few growls exchanged over dog beds. Sheena knows basic obedience, is fully housebroken and crate trained, and is picking up leash skills quickly. She is content to curl into a cushy bed and nap the day away and is always ready for a walk. Sheena prefers her toys without ears and tags and limbs, and is happy to fix them if they don't come that way. She likes to play ball as well.
Due to her past, she's a little hand shy and startles at loud noises. She is wary of cars and really dislikes releasing air sounds (like air brakes on a bus or even opening a soda). Sheena is the most affectionate foster that I've ever had, and is the most gentle and sweet girl! Just an incredible dog!
Birch & Kota
ADOPTED 03/14/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Kota and her best buddy, Birch, were found wandering around in the south. Although the two dogs were wearing identification, when animal control contacted their family, they were told that the dogs were no longer wanted. As this friendly pair deserves to be loved and cared for in their golden years, our friends at animal control called and asked if we could welcome this pair into the MAGSR family.
Kota and Birch are a bonded pair and rely on one another for safety and comfort. Although they were tossed aside by their former family, they remain sweet and loving dogs. Currently residing with a fantastic foster family, Kota and Birch are moving forward with the comfort of soft beds, good food, and the attention they deserve. Although we are still getting to know this lovely pair, it does appear that they have previously lived in a household and do know some of the general household expectations. As we learn more about Kota and Birch, we will provide updates. If you can provide this special pair with the loving forever home they so clearly deserve, please ask to meet them today.
Updates:Kota and Birch aren't talking today but rather their foster mom thinks they are a blessing to their house....and will be to the family who is lucky enough to adopt them.
Kota...how can I begin to tell you about this sweet girl? When she came to us she liked affection but now she searches for it. When Kota came to us we found a lump on her that turned out to be mass. She had a biopsy done which confirmed it was cancer. Kota has had 2 surgeries and the vet feels confident that the cancer removal was successful. Kota sleeps every night in my daughter's bedroom on the floor on her dog bed (She NEVER gets on furniture of any kind). She is completely housebroken....not a single accident in over 2 months. If you lose track of time, she will come to you, whine and make you stop whatever you are doing to go out. If you are looking for a guard dog that barks, that isn't Kota. I work from home and she happily comes upstairs, lays on her mat and looks up every so often just to make sure I am still there. Toys have also evolved into something new. For Christmas she got crinkle and squeaking toys. The squeakers are really cool for her, until the resident dog decides that it shouldn't make that sound anymore. Then Kota will pull the stuffing out. Although it may make your living room, look like it snowed...her joy is worth it. If any of this sounds good to you please reach out to us and my foster mom would love to talk to you and have you meet her.
Birch... He is such a different dog than he was at Thanksgiving when we got him. I have never seen a dog change so much. When he came to us he was a fine house guest. He left everything alone...including us. By Christmas he was starting to come around but still didn't believe he was always going to be loved and taken care of. In the last few weeks he is starting to understand the concept of a family. He will now come over for affection and frequently bathes you with his tongue. Although at times you don't want the bath, you just look at the love in his eyes and you don't care anymore. Toys are a little more important but not the same as Kota. At first, he skeptically chewed a bone. There have been so many milestones in the last two weeks with toys. He played tug of war with Kota and even went to the toy box. But he didn't just go there, he creeped up and did his adorable little bounce on them. We all had to laugh and smile at that milestone. When we first got him we needed a belly band because he would mark in the house. After a few weeks he no longer needed it. He is housebroken but you need to be trained too. They LOVE water. Therefore you need to watch him. His signs aren't as clear as Kota's but he has only had 2 accidents in the last few months. Birch even sleeps with the resident girl. He also doesn't get on any furniture. Just this week he has become an alarm clock at 6:30. Birch has found his voice and it is very funny. His voice isn't a bark and isn't loud. I can't describe what it sounds like but you can come hear it. Birch also comes to my office with me. At first I felt bad because he likes to lay under the desk on my feet and I would bump him. Now I am used to him being so close and love it because of the growth in him.
Kota and Birch are very calm loving dogs. They walk nicely on a leash and are house broken. Birch's favorite thing is to relax with his people and Kota loves ear scratches. Birch provides a sense of safety and Kota provides a sense of calmness for one another. They both get along with the resident dogs in their fosters house and are happy to hang out with them. Kota and Birch arrived at MAGSR from the south the day before Thanksgiving. It was a very special holiday for them because there was food in their belly and a warm soft bed to sleep on. Upon rescue they appeared older than they truly were. A MAGSR vet estimated Birch between 3-5 and Kota between 5-7 years old. They are currently working on gaining weight and strengthening the muscles that were not used as much as needed. Birch has tested heartworm positive as we are seeing more and more due to lack of heartworm preventatives, however MAGSR has already started him on his treatment program and will cover the entire cost. Please donate if you can. If you have room in your home and want a wonderful bonded pair, their foster would love to tell you all about them.
Hi there…It’s me Kota. My foster family has learned so much about me in these last few weeks. I had my first Christmas yesterday in a loving home. Stockings were the best. I got my favorite crackling and squeaking toy!! Of course, good girls like me also get treats. I can’t wait for Christmas in my furever home. Maybe New Year’s, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Valentine’s Day (I’ll give you lots of kisses) but I think you get the point. I have figured out my place in the pack with the resident dogs and we get along wonderfully. My foster parents love having us. My foster dad said we are so easy to love. Just a few…or many…ear scratches and I’ll sleep at your feet like I am with my foster mom right now. If I sound like your kind of dog ask to see me. I’m waiting for you.
Hi there…it’s me Birch. My foster family has learned just as much about me as they have for my best friend Kota. My first Christmas in a home was also yesterday. My stocking was pretty cool too but I am much more laid back about it. My favorite was the beef bone and the freeze-dried chicken. Of course, the new soft beds…now we have one in almost every room… they were a hit with me. I like to curl up on the bed and monitor the room. I haven't quite figured out affection like Kota has. I am happy to get affection, but I don’t always ask for it. So, my foster family comes to me and I do the loving lean in. I am getting the hang of excitement. I do this cute jump. There is nothing like a soft bed and a warm fire. Except maybe a furever home. Are you that for us? We will love you and be devoted companions forever. Ask about us and my foster mom can brag about us for hours!!
Neko
ADOPTED 03/14/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Neko is a playful young pup who recently joined the MAGSR family. Having lived in a loving foster family prior to his arrival at MAGSR, Neko has had the opportunity to begin learning the ins and outs of living in a household. Although Neko was cherished in his foster home, his foster family could no longer care for him due to a change in circumstances. When a plea came out for another rescue to step in, MAGSR answered the call.
Neko is in many ways still a puppy at 10-12 months and like any puppy he has endless energy and curiosity. Adventurous and confident, Neko is a fan of new people and dogs. He is known to greet both with play bows and tail wags. Having lived with children in his previous placement, Neko enjoys interacting with people of all ages. As is true of all dogs from puppies to seniors, Neko will benefit from training. This will help him not only bond with his new family but it will help him develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. Although Neko is a young and overall healthy guy, he has been living in a region where mosquitoes carrying heartworms are prevalent. Unfortunately, this boy was not kept up to date on preventatives and heartworm positive. The cost of Neko’s entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Neko is definitely more than worth the cost. Please consider making a donation toward Neko's treatment. Your generosity will help us save him and other dogs with medical needs. Although Neko will need to take it slow over the next few months, he will be back to full strength once his treatment is finished. If Neko sounds like the right match for your family, please ask to meet this sweet guy today!
Madam
ADOPTED 03/14/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Lovely Madam was running loose in the south and was picked-up by animal control. She waited patiently for her family to come and claim her; however, when no one came, shelter staff began looking for a rescue to help Madam move forward. Having learned that Madam actually belonged to the same family that surrendered Milton and Teddy, we immediately stepped up to bring Madam to safety. MAGSR has a policy of not leaving families behind.
Madam is an affectionate girl. She enjoys the company of people and seems to have had some exposure to children. Although we know that Madam had an owner, we are not sure if she was kept as an inside dog or an outside dog. We do know that she did not have any vetting prior to her arrival at the shelter. Unfortunately, Madam is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she had been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Madam has already begun her heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Madam's treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Madam is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Madam's treatment. Your generosity will help us save her and other dogs with medical needs. Although Madam will need to take it slow over the next few months, she will be back to full strength once her treatment is finished. If your household is looking for a sweet and affectionate girl, ask to meet Madam today.
Kat
ADOPTED 03/13/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Kat and her brother Cloud were surrendered to a shelter when their owner could no longer keep them safe. With extreme cases of overcrowding in shelters in the south right now due to the unprecedented weather they are experiencing, shelters are pleading for rescues to help move dogs to safety. When asked to help Kat and Cloud move forward, we immediately welcomed them into the MAGSR family.
Kat is social and friendly. It is highly evident that her family loved her and worked hard to keep her socialized. Her wiggly personality quickly wins over the hearts of everyone around her. Although we know that Kat had a family, we do know know if she was kept as an inside or an outside dog. As we get to know her, we will post updates. Unfortunately, we have learned that Kat is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she had been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Kat has already begun her heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Kat's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Kat is clearly more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Kat's treatment. Your generosity will help us save her and other dogs with medical needs. Dakar
ADOPTED 03/07/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Handsome Dakar was picked up as a stray and brought to a shelter in the south. As is true of many GSDs, Dakar struggled at the shelter. However, once volunteers who are comfortable with the breed started working with him, they quickly discovered that this sweet guy had a lot of potential. Recognizing that Dakar would have his best chance at finding his forever home outside the shelter, a plea went out for rescue help. MAGSR answered that call.
Dakar is a playful and curious boy. He enjoys the company of other stable dogs and has greatly enjoyed his time in play group. Although Dakar was a stray, he takes treats gently and walks well on leash. He has quickly begun picking up some basic commands and loves to work for treats. Dakar can be a little timid with new people. However, when given the chance to warm up, he is friendly and playful. He gives kisses and tail wags and seems to enjoy the company of kids. Dakar will do well with a family that will go slow and give him time to adjust. When provided with structure, routine, and leadership, Dakar will have the opportunity to develop into a good canine citizen. If your family sounds like the right match for Dakar, please ask to meet him today.
Bear
ADOPTED 03/07/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Bear was found running as a stray in a big city. When animal control picked up this sweet boy they were beyond surprised by his gentle personality. When no one came to claim Bear, the shelter started looking for a rescue so that he could find a safe and loving forever home. Although we don't know much about Bear's history, we do know that he is an affectionate and playful guy. Bear knows a few commands already and is highly food motivated. He takes treats nicely and is eager to learn. This motivation will make Bear the star at training class; participation in training will not only help Bear bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen.
Recently we have learned that sweet Bear is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if he had been properly cared for and provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Bear has already begun his heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Bear's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Bear is definitely more than worth the cost. Please consider making a donation toward Bear's treatment. Your generosity will help us save him and other dogs with medical needs. Although Bear will need to take it slow over the next few months, he will be back to full strength once his treatment is finished. If your household is looking for a cuddly and playful guy, please ask to meet Bear today.
Indie
ADOPTED 03/06/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Indie's family loved him dearly. Unfortunately, they fell on hard times and were no longer able to care for him. Knowing he deserved a forever family that could meet all of his needs, Indie's family surrendered him to shelter hoping he would find a loving home. Although shelter staff greatly enjoyed Indie, they recognized that shepherds struggle at shelters. In order to give Indie his best chance at finding the right match, they transferred Indie to MAGSR.
Indie is a young, curious, and playful guy. He is interested in learning all about the world around him. When given a little time to adjust to his surroundings, he warms up well to new people and situations. A big fan of the snow, Indie will happily play, bounce, and romp around. As Indie is an energetic guy, it will be important that his new family not only exercise his body, but that they also exercise his mind. Indie will benefit greatly from training. As this will help him bond with his new family while also developing in the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. If Indie sounds like the right match for your family, please ask to meet him today.
Koda Mae
ADOPTED 03/06/2021!
Good With Kids: Older kids, over 12
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Lovely Koda Mae was found as a stray during some of the ice storms Maryland experienced this year. Although attempts were made to find her family, no one stepped up to claim Koda Mae. As Koda Mae was found in a small community, animal control had concerns that this little girl was dumped out in the elements on purpose.
Koda Mae is looking for a loving forever family who will commit to her for a lifetime. As a high drive girl, Koda Mae is all about the ball. It is the perfect training tool and Koda Mae is more than happy to comply. Already knowing a few commands, such as, sit and down, this girl will excel in training. Not only will training help her further develop her skills but it will also help her bond appropriately with her new family. As Koda Mae is an energetic and driven girl, she would be most successful in a household that is experienced with the breed. If Koda Mae sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Erica
ADOPTED 02/27/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Erica was picked up in the south and brought to a local shelter. Shelter staff immediately fell in love with this delightful girl and started pleading for a rescue placement. Fortunately, we were able to step forward and welcome this lovely girl into the MAGSR family.
Erica is the definition of gentle giant. She is easy to walk on leash and friendly with everyone she meets. Erica rides well in the car but is still learning the best way to get up into larger vehicles. We are still getting to know this big, beautiful girl and will post updates soon. If Erica sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.
Updates:Erica has been with us in her foster home for a few days now, and is still settling in. We've learned a few things about her in this short time. She is definitely a "low-key" kinda gal, well-suited for a quiet, less active home. We believe she is part (or whole) Anatolian shepherd, and shows many of the characteristics of this breed. She bonds quickly to her care-giver (that's me!) but does not exhibit separation-anxiety at all; she has been left alone for several hours by herself without problems. She is happy to greet me at the door when I return, but then just retreats to her "spot" to watch me.
Erica has obviously lived in a home, as she is completely housebroken and waits at the door to tell you she needs outside. She was reported to being accepting of a crate, but that has not been my experience with her - she registered her displeasure at being crated, and has been just fine, uncrated, in my home. She is not destructive at all and stays off the furniture (a rule in my household). Erica is a big girl, but at 90+ lbs she is not overweight for her breeding - she has a visible "waist" when viewed from above. She eats whatever is in her dog bowl, has adjusted to feed changes just fine, and takes treats very gently. Erica walks well on leash and follows my lead. She knows very few commands but is easy to handle.
Erica is looking for her perfect home, one without small animals, and with folks who will love her and care for her for the rest of her life. If your household seeks a "gentle giant" companion dog, please ask to meet Erica.
Erica truly is a gentle giant but she has some pep in her, don't let her plodding walk fool you! She most definitely has the character traits of an Anatolian with some GSD/Mastiff thrown in plus or minus some. Independence, thy name is Erica. She needs time to warm up and feel comfortable - After a little over a week we actually got play bows, mini zoomies, and back wiggles with feet dancing. She actually loves walks and hikes (but I don't see her as a jogging partner). She is fine with people, shopping carts and cars and she rides well in the car. Erica is good with other dogs, however it takes some time to warm up and once she gets a chance to see and smell other dogs, she is happy for them to go on walks with her. She walks well on a leash -- not at a heel, just not pulling. If anything she needs a few gentle tugs to get a move on when there is an interesting smell distraction. She does not counter surf; however, anything lower than a standard table (basically, lower than her head) is up for grabs if left unattended. Erica loves people including children. She absolutely LOVES getting her ears and neck scratched. Her favorite way of greeting people she knows is to put her head between your legs to be sure you can reach those special spots. If you sit on the floor she will make sure you have access to her head. She does not get up on furniture (except a very well placed bench that allows for a good view outside) but she did realize what dog beds were after a bit of persuasion. While she is somewhat food motivated she does not know any obedience skills and anyone who wants to do training will need to take it very slow and patiently. If you are looking for a gentle soul to share your home, keep you company on walks, and be there for petting when a fur fix is needed, Erica is the pup for you.
Erica was adopted a year and a half ago from MAGSR. She was adored by her family and brought every member of the household endless joy. Unfortunately, a circumstance beyond their control arose which resulted in the need to return Erica to MAGSR. Although this was a very difficult decision, Erica's family knew that we would make sure she found an amazing family that would shower her with a lifetime of love and affection.
Understandably, Erica is a little confused by the recent changes in her life. We are giving her the chance to decompress and settle back into the rescue. Although she is a little unsure right now, Erica has maintained her sweet personality. Erica is looking for a forever family that will make sure she continues to get daily walks and exercise. This will help her stay active and healthy. She would love a family that also enjoys some daily snuggles. Children in the home would be an added bonus as she simply adores them. As is true of all dogs, Erica is looking for a family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and consistency needed to feel "at home." If your household is looking for a loving lady with a gentle presence, ask to meet Erica today.
Lizzo
ADOPTED 02/23/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Lizzo is a survivor. After using her for puppies, Lizzo's owner decided that owning her wasn't advantageous anymore. As a result, he gave her away to someone in the community who left her outside to roam. Without proper care, housing, or food, Lizzo began wandering about the community. Although it was unsafe, Lizzo started regularly running through town to return to her previous residence where a furry friend still resided. Fortunately, a good Samaritan became aware of Lizzo's suffering and was able to arrange for Lizzo to be released to a local rescue in the south. Recognizing that Lizzo would have her best chance at finding the forever home in another region, she was transferred to MAGSR. Although we are still getting to know Lizzo, it is clear that even with all the suffering she has endured that she is an incredible dog. As is true of any dog, Lizzo will thrive in a stable household that will provide her with love, guidance and leadership. As we have the opportunity to learn more about Lizzo, we will post updates. If Lizzo sounds like a fit for your household, ask to meet this lovely girl today.
Kappa
ADOPTED 02/22/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Kappa is one of the Greek puppies. She and her siblings - Zeta, Tau, and Delta are little survivors. They arrived in MAGSR's care after their owner surrendered them to a shelter as the litter had all contracted parvo. Having no vaccines on board already, underweight, and lacking some basic care, these pups needed to fight and fight hard to survive. Unfortunately, three of Kappa's litter mates were unable to overcome this hoffiying disease.
Having survived parvo, Kappa is a super puppy. She cannot ever contract this disease again. Ready to move onto a life of love, cuddles, and playtime, Kappa is excited to meet her forever family. As a young pup, structure, routine and guidance will make all the difference in Kappa's life. Although Kappa is an absolute love, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance, and training, Kappa will develop into the good canine citizen we know she is destined to become. If Kappa sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Aravalli is one of the Nature puppies. She and her siblings - Yellowstone, Rocky, and Alpine are little survivors. They were transferred from another rescue into our care. Unfortunately, after their arrival the entire litter broke with parvo. Puppies are highly susceptible to this disease even if they have had their first set of shots. Fortunately, the Nature puppies were in good hands and able to fight. Many members of this litter survived.

Ruger

Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Ruger was well loved by his family. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond their control, Ruger's family needed to find him a new home. When asked if we could help Ruger find the right match, MAGSR was happy to step up to the plate.
Ruger is in many ways a typical GSD puppy. He is busy, playful, and full of energy. His family did a nice job of providing him with opportunities to socialize which will help him develop into a more balanced dog. Continued socialization is critical as Ruger moves forward. True to the breed, Ruger is already showing some GSD traits and can be protective of the house and unsure of new people. Training, socialization, and leadership are essential for Ruger's success. Although Ruger is a handsome guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance, and training, Ruger will develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. If you are ready to provide Ruger with the structure and routine he craves, please ask to meet him today.

Sienna
ADOPTED 02/18/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Sienna was found as a stray in a busy city and sadly no one came to claim her, She is young and playful and did well with other dogs. Sienna is a people pleaser and loves to socialize once comfortable. Although a little confused as to what all was happening to her, Sienna joined the MAGSR family and has never looked back. Throughout the rescue Sienna is known to be a charmer. Her bouncy, alert, and attentive personality are an immediate draw to everyone around her.
Sadly, we have learned that she is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she had been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Sienna has already begun her heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Sienna's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Sienna is clearly more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Sienna's treatment. Your generosity will help us save her and other dogs with medical needs. Although Sienna will need to take it slow over the next few months, she will be back to full strength once her treatment is finished. If your household is ready to provide Sienna with the leadership and love she craves, ask to meet her today.

I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.

Lovely Dolly was picked up as a stray in the south. Although she waited for her family to reclaim her no one stepped up. Recognizing that sweet Dolly deserved a forever family to call her own, shelter staff reached out to MAGSR for help. Dolly clearly loves her people. She is full of tail wags and hugs. As Dolly is new to MAGSR, we are taking the time to get to know this delightful girl. As we learn more, we will post updates here. If you are ready to open your home to this lovely girl, please ask to meet her today.
Karl
ADOPTED 02/07/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Karl was a stray who was picked up and brought to a shelter. Upon arrival it was evident to the shelter staff that Karl was a special guy. He easily won the hearts of shelter staff. Although playful and affectionate, Karl struggled with anxiety in the shelter environment. This is very common for German Shepherds and many other guardian breeds. Recognizing that Karl needed his best chance and finding his forever home, the shelter contacted MAGSR and the rest is history.
Karl is a handsome guy. He interacts well with dogs and other people. However, he does need slow introductions to new people and situations. Karl's forever family will need to follow a two to three week shut down when he joins their family. This will provide Karl with the opportunity to slowly adjust to his new home. Patience and structure will help Karl learn household routines and settle in more effectively. Karl is looking for a calm household that will help him develop into the stable guy we know he is destined to be. If Karl sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet him today.
Boone
ADOPTED 02/06/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes, older kids
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Boone is a big, beautiful, energetic dog. He was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. Recognizing that shepherds struggle at shelters, staff members immediately began looking for rescues who could help Boone find a forever home. Although Boone is two, he is in many ways like a big puppy. He is playful, energetic, and doesn't understand that he is a big guy. As is true of many young dogs who have not been provided with structure and routine, Boone still has a lot to learn about being a good canine citizen. He has had very little experience with a leash and will need to learn some of the finer skills of leash etiquette. Boone will benefit greatly from a good training program as it will not only help him bond with his family but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. Boone will be most successful with a handler who is experienced with the breed. If Boone sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet him today.
Snowflake
ADOPTED 02/01/2021!
Good With Kids: Older Kids Only
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Snowflake's family loved her dearly. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, they could no longer care for her. Although surrendering her was a difficult decision, they knew this gave Snowflake her best chance. We promised Snowflake's family that we would find her the perfect forever home.
Snowflake is a lovely girl. She is charming and playful when comfortable with her people. Both a fan of the soccer ball and fetch, Snowflake simply brings smiles to those around her. Although this little girl is a doll, she is in need of continued socialization and training. Having had limited experiences within the community, Snowflake will need time, patience, and leadership as she learns about the world around her. Snowflake will thrive in an environment where structure and routine are infused into daily activities. She will do well with a family that understands and has experience with the breed. Please remember that although they are cute and cuddly, puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics and can be mischievous - they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Snowflake will develop into the good canine citizen she is destined to become. If Snowflake sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.
Sweetie
ADOPTED 02/01/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Sweetie and her siblings, Cupid, Valentine, and Angel, were living outside in a location where their likelihood of survival was significantly diminished each day they remained on the property. With limited food, clean water, shelter, and no vetting, these babies had few options. In addition, hazardous conditions on the property made their prognosis grave. Several of their siblings drowned before rescuers were able to step in and help. With the assistance of other rescues, volunteers, and vets, MAGSR was able to bring these little survivors into the MAGSR family.
Sweetie is clearly a cutie and her story has quickly won over the hearts and minds of the many people who have helped her along the way. However, Sweetie is a working line dog who will require a special household that will commit to training and socialization. As a high energy breed who needs to have structure, guidance, and constant leadership, Sweetie's family will need to keep both her mind and body exercised on a daily basis. Although Sweet is an incredible dog, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics and can be mischievous - they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Sweetie will develop into the good canine citizen she is destined to become. If Sweetie sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.
Winter
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Winter's family fell on hard times and could no longer provide her with the basic food and shelter she needed. As a result, they made the decision to turn her into a shelter with the hope that she would find a new home. Although done with the best intentions, Winter was overlooked and in an overcrowded shelter this meant she was living on borrowed time. When shelter staff realized she needed out, they contacted MAGSR. We immediately welcomed Winter into rescue.
Winter is a sweetheart; however, she can be timid around new people. Once she warms up, Winter is your typical, young GSD. Good with other dogs, Winter participated in playgroup regularly at the shelter. Although Winter is honey who is ready to find her forever home, we have learned that she is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she had been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Winter has already begun her heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Winter's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Winter is clearly more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Winter's treatment. Your generosity will help us save her and other dogs with medical needs. Although Winter will need to take it slow over the next few months, she will be back to full strength once her treatment is finished. Kylo
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Kylo was found as a stray in a big, busy city. He was brought to a shelter where he waited for his family to claim him. However, when no one came to get Kylo, the shelter began to plead for rescue for this big, handsome guy. Although we do not know anything about Kylo's history, we do know that someone cared for him at one time as he arrived already knowing a few basic commands. Good with other dogs, Kylo did well in playgroup at the shelter and was non-reactive to dogs passing his kennel run. As is true of all shepherds, Kylo will do well with structure and routine. He is looking for a household who is experienced with the breed so that he has opportunities to meet with success.
Although Kylo is a neat guy, we have learned that he is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if he had been properly cared and provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Kylo has already begun his heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Kylo's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Kylo is clearly more than worth the cost. Mr. Jack
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Mr. Jack and his housemate, Miss Jackie, were used for puppies. Their lives have been filled with little care, comfort, or kindness. When their owner decided that it was time for them to move on, their future options were very limited. Fortunately, another rescue heard about their situation and reached out to MAGSR for help.
Although we knew that both dogs would need some additional love and attention, we also knew they deserved kindness and compassion. Mr. Jack was shown very little warmth or gentleness prior to his arrival. He was fearful of people as he was unsure of their intentions. Fortunately, with the care and attention of a loving foster home, Mr. Jack has begun to blossom. He seeks out the attention of his foster family and has taken on the role of velcro dog in the household. It is simply amazing what a difference kindness makes even after years of suffering. Although Mr. Jack is an incredible guy, we have learned that he is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided had he been properly cared for and provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Mr. Jack has already begun his heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Mr. Jack's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Mr. Jack is clearly more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Mr. Jack's care. Raina
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Raina is your typical young, energetic shepherd. In many ways she embodies the characteristics of most shepherds - curious, eager, and loyal. Raina has lived with a cat and interacted with small dogs prior to her arrival at MAGSR. She is very playful which could be a little much for the cat in her household. Affectionate and sweet, Raina has done well when meeting new people but can become a little too exuberant and get jumpy. Both crate trained and housebroken, Raina understands many of the household rules; however, as is true of any new dog, she will need time to adjust to the routines of a new household. Raina will benefit from a household that will provide her with the structure, leadership, and training that helps all dogs excel. If you feel like your household is a good match for Raina, please ask to meet her today!
Trena
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Unknown
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
As Trena has endured a difficult life, it can take her a little time to warm up to new people and circumstances. Her reactions and responses make it clear that she has been abused. When welcomed into her foster family, Trena would lay in the corner scared and shaking. Although fear seemed to consume this lovely lady, with love, patience, and a little help from her furry foster brother - Camden, Trena began making strides. Trena enjoys her daily walks and seems happiest when playing outside. As she has adjusted to family life, Trena has begun learning some basic commands, developing her playful voice, and housebreaking. Trena will be most successful in a household that will take the time to further build her confidence. She would benefit from a calm and quiet household that would provide the structure and patience Trena needs to meet with further success. If your family can provide Trena with the love and support she will need to continue to move forward, please ask to meet her today.
Updates:Trena has had such a hard life but even with everything she has been through she is beginning to trust humans. Everyday Trena makes strides in trusting. She is very fearful and her fosters have found she likes to eat in her crate. It is exciting that Trena is starting to ask for belly rubs and had her 1st playdate and did great. As you will see from Trena's pictures she loves her foster brother Cam. Trena would do best with another dog in her forever home, as she looks to them for confidence.
Gator
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Yes
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Sweet Gator has been passed from household to household throughout his young life. In his most recent household, the owners had stopped providing him with the basics of food, water, or vetting. Instead, he was left chained outside with very little shelter. When another rescue stepped in to help Gator, they were impressed that this boy was still so sweet even with everything he had endured.
Gator is still a young guy who will thrive with leadership and consistency. He has not had the opportunity to socialize with people and dogs as much as would have been expected at his age. However, he remains friendly. Gator will do best in a household where his new family can go slowly and provide him with the structure and routine that all GSDs crave. Gator has been living with other dogs since his removal from his last owner and done well. He seems to like the presence of another stable dog. As he moves forward, Gator will benefit greatly from training as it will help him bond to his new family as well as become a good canine citizen. If Gator sounds like a match for your household, please inquire about him today.
Captain
ADOPTED 01/30/2021!
Good With Kids: Older Kids Only
I've been adopted, thanks to MAGSR but so many more dogs need their help.
Will you help them by donating or volunteering?
Captain found himself at a local shelter when he began getting nervous around the toddler in the household. Although Captain never tried to hurt the toddler, the family felt that it was safer for all involved to rehome Captain. Having spent his entire life with his previous family, Captain is a little unsure about all of the sudden changes in his life.
Captain is a playful, ball driven guy. Having lived in a household his entire life, Captain is housebroken and crate trained. He also knows some basic commands. As is true of most shepherds, Captain can be protective of his people and will need to learn to trust that his new family will set him up for success. Training will be an important part of the bonding process for Captain and his new family. Captain is looking for a forever home that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be you?
Updates:Captain is a smart and playful guy who had the benefit of participating in a board and train program at Stateline Canine. MAGSR is so very grateful to Stateline for all that they have done to help Captain further develop into a good canine citizen. Captain moved directly from his board and train program into a foster home so that he can further develop his skills in a home environment. When he moves into his forever home, Captain will have lifetime access to Stateline Canine for skill refreshers. Captain's foster family adores him. He provides them with endless entertainment and antics. As your typical shepherd, Captain prefers to be with his people at all times and will watch and wait for them if they leave his presence. Housebroken, crate trained, and knowing his basic commands, Captain understands the basic rules of a household but does best with a strong, confident handler. Although Captain could play ball for hours every day, he also enjoys some cuddles. Unaware that he is a big guy, once comfortable, Captain does think he makes the perfect lap dog. That is if you prefer not to feel your thighs for long periods of time. He is also the master of a good face wash and will happily assist you with taking care of any leftover crumbs. Captain is a special guy who is looking for a household that is experienced with the breed. Good with dogs and cats, Captain enjoys the company of other animals particularly when clear expectations are in place. He will meet with greatest success when provided with the structure and leadership that all shepherds crave. If Captain sounds like the right match for your household, please ask to meet him today.

Although we knew that both would need some additional love and attention, we also knew they deserved kindness and compassion. Miss Jackie is friendly, interactive, and goofy with her people. She seeks out attention from everyone around and is a bit of a social butterfly. Although Miss Jackie is wonderful with her people, she is not a huge fan of other furry creatures. With a high prey drive, Jackie likely needed this to survive the first 5 years of her life. As a result, she is looking for a home where she can be the sole focus of the family. Miss Jackie has done very well in her previous foster home. She is crate trained and house broken. However, once properly adjusted, she is able to move about freely in the house without causing issues when alone. Having lived in a household, Miss Jackie does understand the rules of living in a home; however, she will need to adjust to the general routine and structure of her forever home. An intelligent girl, Jackie has had some training and knows many of her basic commands. Further training is always positive as this will help Jackie exercise her mind as well as develop a healthy bond with her forever family.
Miss Jackie is a lovely lady who is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the leadership, safety, and love that she so clearly deserves. Could this be with you?
Updates:Miss Jackie is a very sweet girl. She seems to love all humans and loves attention. She is a laid back, easy going dog. She loves going for long walks. She likes playing with certain toys. She is housebroken and crate trained. Miss Jackie prefers male dogs over females, she can be quite reactive to female dogs. She will get along with most male dogs, but when she wants her own space she'll react. I think it's safe to say Miss Jackie likes being the boss and if she had her choice she would like to be the only dog in the house.
