Luisa
LuisaLuisaLuisaLuisaLuisaLuisaLuisaLuisaLuisa
Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 8 years 3 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 59 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Luisa came to us from a not so good situation.  She was used as a breeding dog, she was not provided with proper care or adequate living conditions.  Thankfully after complaints and an investigation she, along with other dogs were confiscated.  Luisa is now in our care where she is looking for a family that will provide her with a loving and warm home, where she means more to her family than just a puppy machine.  Luisa is young and beautiful, she requires training to learn about life, good manners and living in a home.  Yes, you will have to put work into her, provide structure, love and proper care, but she is so worth it.

Updates:

Luisa is settling in nicely in her foster home - she's a very nice, sweet girl and has such a nice coat and coloring!!! Luisa is experiencing a whole new world in and outside the home. She is skittish and unfamiliar with a lot of things which is understandable. Her foster parents take her for walks about 4 or more times a day. She is leery of people, dogs that want to engage in play, things that move (kids sledding) and loud unexpected noises. She is fine with sounds around the house but anything out of the ordinary startles her, also not surprising. Luisa appears to be housebroken and doesn't much like when her person leaves her home and may bark some. Luisa is learning to walk on a leash - she walks nicely, but needs a gentle reminder to heel every once in a while - she is learning other commands as well. If you have the time and patience to work with this sweet girl, please ask to meet her.

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 7 years 3 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 86 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Older kids, over 10
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes, big dogs only
DESCRIPTION:

Frankie was surrendered to us as he was too big and strong for his elderly family.  He has been to dog parks and did well except for one encounter with one dog.  On walks he would pull and bark at other dogs, but we are unsure if that's because he wanted to meet them or not.  When the grandchildren came to visit he did well and would actually become depressed when they left.  He does require training as he has never been to training.  Training is absolutely a must as it teaches good manners, obedience and creates a bond with his new family.

Updates:

Wow, this has sure been an action packed couple of days! My Mommy and Daddy couldn't handle a big fellow like me so they brought me to something called a rescue and that sure is how I feel. I went home with a lady that I've become quite attached to, and she makes me feel safe, which I needed and didn't even know it. She's introduced me to her fur babies and I sure do like to play with her dogs. She says I'm a sweet baby in a big fuzzy bear costume! I've also gotten a bath and blow out, which I didn't like very much, but she told me I was a very good boy during it, so that's cool! She took me to the vet for a checkup and they loved me there, I was scared but I just tried to hide. I like squeaky toys, frisbees and treats, especially the treats - which I take very gently! I can "come" and "sit" but I will need a lot more training because I'm still a baby! Do you think you could handle the training for a big strong puppy like me? I'd really love to make some new friends!

DESCRIPTION:

Kenya was adopted from our rescue when she was just a puppy in 2006.  Sadly her adopter, due to personal reasons, is no longer able to care for her.  As you can imagine Kenya's world as she knew it has been turned upside down.  She is currently in a loving foster home with her foster family helping her with the adjustment. She is anxious , eating very little and obviously does not understand what is going on or where her family is.

Don't try to tell this senior to slow down; Kenya is quite athletic and runs and plays just fine, thank you very much!  Kenya loves to go for car rides and long walks with her foster family, as well as snuggling up for head rubs.  She has settled into her foster home nicely, also enjoying naps on her dog bed, hanging out with her foster siblings, and taking her chew bones wherever she goes.  This affectionate lady walks well on leash and knows her basic commands.  If you would like to meet Kenya, please contact our Adoptions Coordinator for more information.

Shadow

Shadow adopted
ShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadowShadow
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 7 years 10 months
Color: Black
Current Size: 80 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: No
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Older kids, over 12
Good With Cats: No
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Shadow was a surrender as his former person had far too many dogs and was not able to afford them all.  He is just stunning with his all black shiny coat.  He has been very friendly with our volunteers.  He does well with other dogs, he especially likes the females.  With other male dogs he can be bossy, so it must be the right fit.  Training of course is mandatory and will go along way in teaching him proper manners, good life skills and help him and his new family to adjust to one another.

Updates:

Shadow had a vet visit that went well, he was very social at the vet's office and we did not have any issues whatsoever.  He was easy to leash up, easy to move around and is just an all around great boy.  He is gawky and goofy.

DESCRIPTION:

Chevy found himself in a shelter very underweight.  He has been diagnosed with EPI, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.  This is caused when the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to properly digest food.  This is very easily treated by adding enzymes to each meal which helps the body digest food. More information can be found at epi4dogs.com along with before and after pictures of dogs that have EPI. Now that Chevy has been receiving the enzymes he needs he has gained weight.  Please do not let EPI deter you from considering Chevy, he deserves a family to love and care for him and in return he will give you his devotion. Chevy needs to be properly introduced to new dogs, he does not do well with face to face meeting the first time round.  Once he has been properly introduced he does well.  He is now in a foster home, please watch for updates.

Updates:

Chevy is a sweet young dog looking for a forever home to provide consistency, structure and training with a hander who has prior GSD experience. Chevy is housebroken and crate trained. He hasn’t spent much time in a home - he’s learning about stairs and his reflection in glass doors. He’s also learning what not to do, like counter surf, jump on people and be respectful to the resident dogs. He isn’t aggressive rather he wants to play and can be a little too forward. He needs to learn both people and dog manners. He does not appear to have had any prior training and is new to a prong collar. He responds very well to a light touch and seems to be a quickly learner once he understands what you want. He’s interested in squirrels and if a dog is barking in the hood, he responds in kind. For a young untrained dog, he is fairly calm and easy to handle. He doesn’t pull much on the leash during a walk. He likes to lean into his person, loves attention and gives kisses. He’s ok with being brushed and is getting accustomed to his ears, feet and mouth being handled. His EPI is well managed, with enzymes on his food, mixed and soaked in warm water for 20 minutes and dinner is served - Easy! If you are looking for a dog that is easy to train and loves people and you can provide love, toys, and training - look no further - Chevy is the one for you!

Chevy is adjusting to life inside a home. He is still learning dog to dog manners as he likes to run up to a dog and bark. Not the best social skill for a dog. He is getting more comfortable around people, but still needs slow introductions to people - we’re taking it slow. He wants to approach on his own terms. Once he knows you're ok, he's fine. Chevy is letting his human know that he’s not comfortable. He doesn’t like collar or people messing with his neck or hands over his head - his foster mom is working on that with him. With his EPI, he gets a few freeze dried liver treats to help with training. A calm, slow and gentle hand wins the day with Chevy - just take it slow and easy. Chevy crates beautifully and loves to talk to the resident female GSD when he wants to play. Chevy is getting settled in and is adjusting well - he’s a fast learner. Overall, Chevy is a sweetheart with a few quirks. If you have the interest in working with Chevy to provide the structure and training he needs and patience to earn his trust, please ask to meet him.

Hi! Chevy here, I thought I would give my own update. When I arrived in MAGSR's care 5 weeks ago, I wasn’t feeling so good and needed to rest. Now that I’m feeling better, I have a lot more energy and I love to run and play!  I think that’s why they call me Chevy Chase sometimes. I love to chase and wrestle with the resident young dog. There are things here I’ve never seen before like stairs, but now I run up and down them like I’ve been doing it my entire life. They also have balls here. I didn’t get it at first, but now, I LOVE to chase balls.  They take me to this big field and throw it as far as they can. I run like a bullet to get the ball and come right back for more. I stay close to my people. Like most GSDs, I am protective when there’s a knock at the door or something out of place is happening. I’m kinda shy around new people, but I love my foster family so when I get used to you, I am very affectionate. I’m really not crazy about going to the vet. My foster mom uses this word “no” - I understand that means I have to stop doing whatever it is I’m doing. If you don’t keep an eye on me, I might chew up your favorite baseball cap (Sorry). I don’t mind the crate at all and I’m really quiet in it, unless I have to go potty, then I softly whine. I always go outside. I haven’t had one single accident inside the house. I’ve heard them say I’ve come a long way in a short period of time - whatever that means. All I know is, I’m a young pup looking for a place to call home. I need someone who understands my breed because I can be willful unless it’s something I want to do. Could that be you? I hope so, I’m here waiting.  Let’s play ball!
