The Kentucky Six - Diego, Champ, Serena, Peanut, Evie, and Yogi - are cruelty and neglect survivors. Living in inhumane conditions, starved, and used as breeding stock, the Kentucky Six managed to make it off the property alive when the right people heard about their conditions and got the authorities involved. All six dogs were confiscated and brought to a shelter where they waited for the chance to find kind and loving families of their very own. Although shelter staff worked hard to make sure that all six dogs began getting the care and attention they deserved, they recognized that with shelters at capacity and adoptions limited, these six precious souls may not have the chance to find their forever families. They began working with local groups and started networking the dogs in hopes that rescue placement would be found. Fortunately, their message made its way to MAGSR. Our incredible team knew that this group of dogs was very special, so we began putting plans in place to welcome the Kentucky Six to the MAGSR family.

Although Yogi's life was filled with challenges and suffering prior to his confiscation, he still wants to connect with his people. Intelligent, friendly, and energetic, Yogi is a goofy guy. Still very young, he still has some puppy mannerisms that result in endless smiles. Due to his long hair and the level of neglect he endured, Yogi needed extensive grooming upon arrival to help him get relief from the filth and matting resulting from his circumstances. Although he has endured a lot of suffering, Yogi remains a happy guy. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still friendly and interactive.  As is true of all shepherds, Yogi will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways he is still in the beginning stages of his new life. He will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Yogi will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Yogi has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help him settle into his new home. Training will also go a long way for this boy. Not only will training help Yogi develop a strong, healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Yogi is looking for a forever family that will cherish him for a lifetime. If this playful guy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Yogi today!

Nico

ADOPTED 06/01/2023!

Nico
NicoNicoNicoNicoNicoNicoNico
Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 3 years 2 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 55 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: No, I'm a puppy!
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Nico was surrendered to another rescue in the south as his family felt that they could not provide him with the life he deserved. Due to an overwhelming number of dogs needing rescue right now, the other rescue asked MAGSR if he could be transferred. As working together helps save lives, we were happy to welcome Nico to the MAGSR family.

Nico is your typical young GSD. He is active, intelligent, and full of energy. It is clear that Nico was well socialized with other people and loves everyone. As is true of all young dogs, Nico is looking for a home that will help him exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. Nico has lived in a home and has already learned the many of the ins and outs of living in a home. However, he will need time to adjust to the structure and routines of his forever family. Training will go a long way with Nico. Not only will training help him develop a healthy relationship with his forever family. It will also help Nico develop into a stable and confident adult. Nico is looking for a forever family that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Updates:

Nico is a sweetheart with plenty of puppy energy. He has loved having the company of our 40 pound mixed breed female and has done great around other dogs - interested, but no negative reactivity. He has also been around young kids and a cat without any problems. Nico loves to be outside, give kisses, snuggle on the couch, chew collagen bones, and play tug of war. He is housebroken, crate-trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate. He is currently working on fetch with the frisbee and ball and is also learning commands such as sit, wait, out, heel, gentle, down, and no. He is adorable, but also can be a bit puppy-ish and stubborn sometimes, so training, structure, consistency, and having outlets for his energy will go a long way to help Nico flourish into the incredible dog that he has the potential to be.

Ideal/Potential Size: Large

DESCRIPTION:

Tito and his family - JD, Jameson, and Precious - were living outside. The dogs were clearly well socialized with their family; however, they had not had much experience off property. When circumstances suddenly changed, their family could no longer keep them and began looking for rescue options. Recognizing that this little family needed help and quickly, our volunteers began working together to welcome everyone to the MAGSR family.

Tito is a handsome and energetic guy. He can be a little timid when placed in new situations and with new people. However, given some time, patience, and kindness, he warms up. A big fan of cuddles and massages, Tito just needs a minute to learn that you are trustworthy. Although Tito has been socialized with other dogs, he has not had much experience in new situations and environments. Socialization is a critical component when raising a stable and confident dog. Tito is living with a loving foster family that is beginning this process. However, his forever family will need to continue to provide him with opportunities to meet new people and dogs in varied environments. Having lived his entire life outdoors, Tito is just starting to learn the joys of living in a household. As an intelligent guy, we are sure he will pick up new skills quickly. With structure, routine, and leadership, Tito will thrive.

Although Tito is an absolute joy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your household with puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, Tito will develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to be. If this handsome guy is the right match for your household, ask to meet him today!

Current Size: 61 lbs

Obedience Trained: No
Altered: Yes

DESCRIPTION:

Coates was picked up as a stray in the south and brought to an overcrowded shelter. Although he waited patiently for his family to come and claim him, when no one stepped forward Coates found himself in a scary predicament. With an overwhelming number of dogs entering the shelter on a daily basis, there were not enough openings. Fortunately, shelter staff work very hard to reach out for help hoping to save as many lives as possible. When we heard that Coates needed help as soon as possible, MAGSR stepped forward to welcome him to the family.

Coates is a friendly and affectionate guy. He enjoys the company of people as well as other dogs. Although Coates has clearly been well socialized with people, it appears that he was likely left outside most of his life. As a result, many of the basic ins and outs of household life are unknown to him. Recognizing that Coates will need to gain experience within everyday indoor experiences, our volunteers are working with him to help him learn basic concepts, such as stairs and doors. Coates is looking for a household that will provide him structure, routine, and leadership. He will need a little time to adjust to living in a home. However, we know that with time and patience, he will develop into an incredible canine citizen. Training is essential for Coates. Not only will it help him develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him increase his confidence. Coates is looking for a loving forever family that will help him learn the joys of a soft, warm bed, regular meals, and plenty of cuddles. If Coates sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today!

Obedience Trained: No, I'm a puppy!

DESCRIPTION:

Lane and her ten siblings (the Gilmore puppies) found themselves in an overcrowded shelter in the south. The number of dogs needing placement is simply overwhelming shelters across the country. Unfortunately, these babies, like so many other dogs, were in need of help fast. Recognizing that these babies deserved every opportunity to meet with success, staff at the shelter sent out personal rescue pleas attempting to keep this large family alive. When we heard that the Gilmore puppies needed placement, our incredible team began putting together plans to welcome all eleven babies into the rescue.

The Gilmore puppies are a social, playful, and interactive bunch. They have clearly had opportunities to socialize with people and other animals. However, this process has just begun. It is essential that their forever families continue to provide opportunities to socialize with people and animals in new and safe environments. This will help the Gilmore puppies develop stability and confidence as adult dogs. Training is also critical for these babies as it will not only help them create a healthy bond with their forever families, but it will also help them develop into good canine citizens. The Gilmore puppies have all settled into amazing foster families where they are learning the comforts and routines of living in a home. They are learning about toys, treats, and the joy of a good nap. As they move forward, the Gilmore puppies will be looking for loving forever homes that will continue to provide them with structure, routine, and leadership. Although these babies are cute as can be, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, we are positive these babies will grow into incredible adult dogs. The Gilmore puppies will open for adoption on April 22nd. If Lane sounds like the right match for your household, get your application in today!
