Adopted MAGSR Dogs

Maggie was picked up by animal control and brought to a local shelter. Upon her arrival, it was very clear to the shelter staff that Maggie is a victim of cruelty and neglect. Maggie was extremely emaciated. Her body was covered in scabs, sores, and wounds. She was weak from lack of food and needed encouragement to get up and move. Although the shelter searched for her abusers, no one was identified. Recognizing that Maggie needed help, the shelter worked to find a safe place for Maggie to rest and recuperate.

Fortunately, Maggie has found safety in the MAGSR family. Despite all that Maggie has endured, she is a loving and affectionate dog. Once given the opportunity to warm up to new people, Maggie is all about leaning in for head rubs and giving little kisses. As Maggie has begun eating more regularly and is receiving the medical care she needs, her foster family is beginning to see her personality shine. True to the breed, Maggie is loyal and wants to be with her people. This also gives her the chance to get a few extra head rubs throughout the day. Maggie has clearly lived in a house prior to her arrival at MAGSR. She is housebroken and has some general household manners. At this time, it doesn't appear that Maggie knows any commands. As she is still recovering, her foster family has decided to slowly introduce Maggie to the children and animals in the home. However, Maggie seems to thrive in a calm environment.

Cody was surrendered to a shelter for reasons unknown to us.  According to his records it states that he lived with children, we have yet to evaluate him with children.  It also states that he lived with cats and did well with them.  He also lived with a female GSD.  Cody has some skin issues that we are taking care of, we are unsure if it's caused by allergies or not.  In his previous home they described him as being a sweet boy, but was protective of his family.  Cody will be off for a full exam with our vets, we will post an update once he has been seen.

Tango was surrendered as his family could no longer provide him with the life he deserves.  He is a very handsome, good natured, friendly boy.  He loves other dogs both big and small, he just wants to be everyone's friend. He adores children - very gentle and just snuggles in.  He has had no issues meeting new people both women and men, big or small.  He does great riding in the vehicle.  He has not been around cats, so we have no idea how he is with them.  He enjoys playing in water, be it from a hose, pool or body of water.  

This happy girl came to us as a stray. She is a sweet dainty girly girl that found herself with animal control and no one came for her. Although she can be shy with new people, Elke is a people pleaser and loves to socialize once comfortable. Typical of a young shepherd, Elke has some puppy energy and is a joy to be around. She loves squeaky toys and playing ball outside. She will get a bit mouthy when excited, but she will stop when corrected. At this time, Elke is in a loving foster home learning about house breaking, crate training, and general household manners. Titan's family loved him very much. Unfortunately, they had to make the difficult decision to surrender him to a shelter when they could not find appropriate housing that would allow for a GSD. Prior to his arrival at the shelter, Titan lived with kids of varying ages. His family made sure to keep him well socialized, even bringing him to work from time to time.

Since his arrival at MAGSR, Titan has been identified as a goofball. He is energetic and playful. Titan is a ball dog. He loves to play ball and brings a lot of laughter when doing so. Titan, just like any dog, will benefit from training with his new family. This will not only help him bond with his new family but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Sadie and Mazie were well-loved members of their family. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of their control, the girls' family needed to find them a new home. MAGSR was honored to step-up and provide Sadie and Mazie with a safe haven while we looked for the perfect forever for these girls. 

Sadie is a sweet girl who looks for guidance and leadership from those around her. When given calm and consistent leadership, Sadie responds positively. Sadie, similar to Mazie, is a little confused by all of the changes in her life. As a result, she needs a little extra time to warm up to new people and situations. However, when provided with guidance and support, Sadie warms up to new people and takes cues from the handler.

Jasper was dumped by his former owner on a country road and picked up by animal control.  When our volunteer picked him up from the shelter it was obvious he was not feeling well and not in great shape.  He immediately went into medical boarding at one of our vets offices, where he received the best care.  He had a severe respiratory and ear infection, hair loss with a skin infection and was not eating.  All needed tests were performed and treatment was started.  As time went on he was still not wanting to eat, radiographs were taken and it was found he had foreign objects in him.  He was immediately taken to surgery where a number of assorted items were removed from his stomach.

After spending 3 weeks in medical boarding Jasper was able to go home with his foster.  He is now on the mend, starting to eat on his own and finally wagging his tail some.  He still needs to put on some more weight but his foster will be sure he never misses a much needed meal.

Through all of this he has been nothing but sweet and friendly.  Jasper is now looking for his forever family, one that will treat him with care and love him for his lifetime.  He is ready to leave his past behind and looks forward to a future of living in a home, proper nutrition, walks, playtime and lots of cuddles from his humans.

Kona is a beautiful and intelligent girl. She was surrendered to MAGSR when her family was unable to continue to care for her. As it is quite evident that Kona's family loved her, we have promised to help Kona find a forever family that will continue to provide her with the structure, guidance, and love that will help her continue to thrive. 

Housebroken and crate trained, Kona understands many of the household rules. However, as is true of many shepherds, she may try to explore too much when her family is away. As a result, it is best that Kona be crated when her family is away. Having previously lived with a large male, Kona enjoys the company of other large dogs, particularly, male dogs. She has a confident and stable personality. Kona has lived with children in her previous home and did well with them. Although Kona does already know some commands, she will excel in training with her new family. This will help her develop a strong bond.  Diesel is a large male about 1.5 years old but acts like an 8 month old puppy. He requires a strong owner who will hold him accountable, and training is a must. Diesel will require daily exercise to keep his energy in check. He still has some bad habits that will need to be worked on. Diesel is mouthy when excited, however, he responds well to correction.  He also counter surfs if not supervised. If he isn’t properly supervised in the yard he will dig. Once he has been exercised he is much calmer and listens very well.

Diesel rides well in a car and loves to go on walks. He has good leash manners and has been non reactive to dogs or people while on walks. Diesel has lived in a home with 7 other dogs while in foster without any issues. He crates well and is house broken. While in his foster home he has made great improvement regarding the negative behaviors listed here but will require continued work. He is a very sweet and lovable boy who needs the right family, to get the excess energy out and teach him what he needs to know.

Happy-go-lucky Aster found herself in a shelter with no one coming to claim her. Although she can be shy with new people, Aster is a people pleaser and loves to socialize once comfortable. Typical of a young shepherd, Aster has some puppy energy and is an overall joy to be around. At this time, Aster is in a loving foster home learning about housebreaking, crate training, and general household manners. Apollo is a big, handsome fellow, and he is settling in nicely in his foster home.  It has been a couple weeks so this very striking and impressive dog is starting to get past the stress of being separated from his previous family, and is showing himself to be even-tempered, affectionate, and trained GSD.  With consistent and appropriate guidance from his person, he walks very well on leash, is well-mannered passing strangers and other dogs out walking in the neighborhood, and is generally very attentive and responsive.  However, Apollo is a powerful, headstrong dog that will require structure and strong leadership, and he does show some anxiety when left completely alone so he will need to be properly managed by an experienced adopter to build his confidence and avoid potential separation anxiety.  He is comfortable with the other dogs in his foster home, and crates very well.  Apollo is alert and can be protective of his space and pack, and will alarm bark at unfamiliar people.  He listens well, and is very focused on a leader that he trusts, and will need to complete training with his new people to help build and ensure those bonds of trust.  He will thrive in a home that can provide him with the love and consistent leadership that he needs, and he deserves nothing less.  If you think Apollo might be the dog for you, please ask to learn more about him.

Chole (yes, Chole, not Chloe) found her way to MAGSR when her family fell on hard times and could no longer take care of her. This heart-wrenching decision was made in the best interest of Chole who was clearly a treasured member of the family. Chole is a lovely lady who has lived with kids, dogs, and cats. In fact she has helped many rescue cats find their way home over the years. With a stable and playful personality, Chole loves to play ball and enjoys the company of others. She easily wins over the hearts of minds of everyone who meets her. Chole would be a wonderful addition to any household. Please ask to meet her today. 

Khaleesi came to us as her prior person is being stationed out of the country and could not take her along.  Wanting only the best for Khaleesi she was surrendered to us to find her a loving family.  Khaleesi has lived with another male GSD and got along fine.  She is reported to be very friendly with people.  As she is new to us we are still learning more about her, please check back for updates.

Lovely Olivia found herself left in a shelter drop box this summer. Although a little confused as to what all was happening to her, Olivia joined the MAGSR family and has never looked back. Throughout the rescue Olivia is known to be a charmer. Her bouncy, alert, and attentive personality are an immediate draw to everyone around her. 

Olivia's current age estimate is very rough.

Olivia has thrived throughout her time in the rescue and she will be a lovely addition to her forever home. Although Olivia is ready to settle down in her forever home, she will require a little extra support as she has tested positive for heartworms. This diagnosis would have been easily avoided had Olivia been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives. Fortunately, Olivia has begun the first steps in the treatment process and will continue to receive the care she needs to move forward. Beau was surrendered to a shelter when his owner became too ill to care for him. It is quite evident that his owner cared for him and wanted the best for Beau. This big, beautiful guy is good with other stable dogs. Sweet and well mannered, this guy is looking for a household that will continue to provide him with the love, safety, and guidance that all dogs deserve. As Beau is new to the MAGSR family, we will let you know more about him as we get to know him.

Zoey is 3 years old and her family made the hard decision to surrender her to us. She is all around a perfect princess. She is brilliant, loyal, loving, and loves her people. She is fully housebroken, potty trained, and has been crated as a younger dog.Once she settles in her new home, she will likely be able to earn freedom in the house quickly.

Zoey will never leave your side. We have a silly disorder we diagnosed her with (FOMO, fear of missing out). She loves to be where the people are.

She is excellent with kids (we are unsure at this time about toddlers and younger) and in her previous home slept with one of every night. Playing ball is her favorite past time. Well behaved when it comes to food, Zoey does not beg as she has never exposed her to table scraps or fed her from her family's plates; however, she does love carrots.

When meeting new people, it may take Zoey a few minutes to warm up, however, she settles in nicely once she understands there isn't a threat. Although Zoey has a great bark, she is really just a big baby. If Zoey sounds like a good match for your household, please ask about her today. 

Boomer cannot be any cuter and is absolutely a great little boy, happy go lucky and loves to give puppy kisses. Boomer has a lot to learn about being a good canine citizen and will require training. Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment. Puppies are full of energy and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Boomer will become even more of an amazing boy than he already is. Ryder found himself in a shelter in North Carolina and was running out of rescue options. As luck would have it there happened to be two MAGSR volunteers in that very same shelter picking up four sweet puppies to bring into the MAGSR family. They had an opportunity to meet this regal boy and knew they wanted to save him. Emails were sent and arrangements were made and a week later this gentle giant made his way to Maryland.

Unfortunately, this sweet boy lived a life of neglect as he came in matted and with sores on his ears. MAGSR had him vetted as soon as we were able to and after completion of blood work we received the bad news that he was suffering from Heartworm disease, Ehrlichia, and Lymes. Ryder was started on medications and a Heartworm protocol that will get him healthy and feeling good again. With all that said, even though this poor boy felt miserable he is nothing but sweet Southern charm. In fact, he was so full of charm within minutes he won over the hearts of those volunteers that drove eight hours roundtrip to pick up this sweet boy and transport him to MAGSR. Piper is a very lovable young lady after she gets to know you.  In typical German Shepherd fashion, she is hesitant with new people especially if they are scared or unsure of themselves. She responds well to confident people, and then is eager to please. Piper needs to be socialized with strangers under the supervision of a confident handler. She is a young lady with lots of energy so exercise and training will be a must to keep her on her best behavior.

Piper rides well in a car and loves to go on walks. She has good leash manners for her age and lack of training. Piper has lived in a home with 7 other dogs while in foster without any issues. She crates well and seems to be house broken (no accidents in 2 weeks!). While in her foster home she has been very well behaved.
