Description

Regis was surrendered to a shelter as his family moved and could not take him with them.  He is new to us so we are still getting to know him.  He does best with female dogs and prefers them over male dogs.  He loves belly rubs, rolling over on his back for a good scratching.  Regis will benefit greatly from obedience training, learning good manners and what is expected of him.

Updates:
HI!  My name is Regis and I LOVE BELLY RUBS!  When people come over and start petting me, I roll right over to get some belly rubs!  I love to make my rounds to all the volunteers when us dogs are being walked at the kennel to get my share of attention and belly rubs.  But that's not my only super power - I walk well on a leash (they say I have a good 'heel', but I didn't know dogs had heels?) and tend to sit when my walker stops.  I can sit, down, am working on stay, and I jump right in the car for a ride.  It's fun to bark at the passing cars while riding, but I settle down when I'm told to and become a great riding companion!  I'm a good boy with the vet, even when I'm not feeling so hot.  They say I'm probably house trained, but I don't remember training any houses.  They tell me how sweet I am and I love playing with other pups!  I do have a little bit of a problem with fast hand movements, I get frightened and bark at them, but we're working on that too.  I have tons of energy, and would love to try something like agility or nose work - they also say I have a great sniffer!  I would just love to have a family of my own to love and cuddle with, could that family be yours?

Living with: Family

History: Shelter

Good with Kids: Yes, older kids

Description

Big, handsome Mack is a strong boy.  He needs to learn leash manners, as a dog of his size can be difficult to handle on a leash.  Mack is such a sweet boy.  He has been very friendly with our volunteers.  He really seems to enjoy going for drives, as when he sees a vehicle door open he wants to jump in.  Mack did spend part of his life tied up on a chain, so he probably needs to learn house manners.  While at the shelter he did participate in play groups with other dogs.

Updates:
Mack has been with us for a while now and we have learned a lot about him. Everyone that comes into contact with Mack at the kennel loves him and his tail wags! He can be so sweet, and everyone he meets is a friend. He loves car rides and is very quiet when traveling. Mack is very smart and is not only learning better leash manners, but is a very willing participant in learning sit, down, and place - as long as you have a toy or treat to reward his efforts. He will play fetch, and is learning to bring the toy back and drop it on command. Mack is a sweet boy, and can be such a big teddy bear, but he also needs an experienced handler who will provide structure, training and consistent handling so he can learn his place in a home environment and does not try to take over. If you think you have what it takes to offer Mack what he needs to thrive, please let us know, we'll set you up with an introduction!   , Mack has been with his foster family for a little over a week and has settled in nicely. Mack listens and sometimes he sleeps at his foster's feet. When Mack gets excited, he gets really excited. When Mack's humans head for the door, Mack runs to the door and jumps around, so he has to be calmed down before taking him out. Once Mack knows to listen, he walks nicely. Mack is very active for a four year old, and sometimes he seems more like a two year old. Mack needs a strong hand to keep him in line so that he will be a good canine citizen. Mack likes sleeping in doggy beds and is both housebroken and crate trained. Mack is becoming a dedicated dog to his foster family. If Mack sounds like he could be a good fit for your family, ask to meet him. , Mack's foster reports he is a very sweet boy and dedicated to his humans. Mack loves attention. When Mack's humans are at the dinner table, Mack goes and lays down until dinner is done. Mack is very treat motivated - knows where his treats are kept and will let his humans know when he wants one. In the evenings, Mack wanders upstairs and jumps up on the bed and lays down, until he hears somebody move and then he comes running downstairs to make sure he doesn't miss anything. At night time, Mack sleeps on his doggie bed all night and does great in the crate when he's in it. Mack is recommended for older kids, but very friendly with everyone. Mack lays down for belly rubs, likes to give paws, is good with other dogs, loves to go for car rides, is easy to walk with a human who is in control of him during the walk. Mack is patiently waiting for his fur-ever home - could that home be yours?

Lieve

Gender: Female

Breed: Belgian Malinois/Dutch Shepherd mix

Approximate Age: 6 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 26 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Working on it

Obedience Trained: No, I'm a puppy!

Living with: Foster

History: Shelter

Good with Kids: Older kids, over 10

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Lieve, along with her siblings Liam and Luc lived outside without proper care or an adequate amount of food for growing puppies. Thankfully they were brought to our attention and brought into our care. They were underweight, but with proper nutrition they have gained weight. The pups are a mix of Dutch Shepherd (dad) and Belgian Malinois (mom). Both of these breeds are very high energy dogs that require a lot of exercise of both their bodies and minds, along with obedience training, ongoing socialization and direction. It is imperative that you have the time, everyday, to work with them on their training and can meet their exercise needs. We will only consider adopters that have prior experience with working line dogs. Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment.

Tank

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 7 years

Current Size: 65 lbs

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Kennel

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Unknown

Description

Tank was taken to the vet to be euthanized because he helped himself to some livestock.  Thankfully the vet would not kill such a young and friendly boy, instead she contacted us.  Tank is good with other dogs, but will not do well with livestock, chickens or goats especially.  Of course he requires training to teach good K9 manners and to learn to work with his new family.  Time is needed by his family to help him settle in, learn the rules and to adjust to a new schedule.  Tank has had his stomach tacked, this greatly reduces his chances of bloat.  He will require daily exercise, walks, lots of love and attention for the rest of his life.  He rides well in the vehicle, he enjoys looking out the window and getting a few head rubs.  Please be certain you have what it takes for an energetic GSD and are committed for his lifetime.

Riptide

Adopted: 12/15/2019!

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Mix

Approximate Age: 8 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 70 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: Partially

Living with: Kennel

History: Shelter

Good with Kids: Yes, older kids

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Riptide was originally adopted from a shelter, where he then went on to live his life on a chain with not enough food and no shelter.  This is why it is so important that anyone wanting to adopt a dog is checked out by shelters and rescues.  Riptide was promised a better a life when the shelter adopted him but that is not what he received.  That is all changed now that he is with MAGSR, we will make sure he finds a loving and caring family, that can provide him a home, a comfy bed, good nutrition and care.  Riptide's name is very fitting, he is a high energy boy that is not sure what to do with new found freedom from the chain.  He will need training and structure, along with lots of exercise.

Updates:
Unfortunately, Riptide has been returned to us as his adopter fractured her ankle and is non weight bearing.  With Riptide’s high energy, she was not able to provide his daily exercise requirements.  Riptide was also not doing well with one of their teenage twin daughters.  He was fine with one of them.  He has been to obedience training, but his new family is required to complete training with him.  Training is a great way to learn more about each other, how to work together and create a bond. , Hello there!  My name is Riptide. I've gone to two lovely homes now, they loved me, but they couldn't handle my energy. I am so afraid I may never have a home of my own.  You see, the first part of my life, I was out on a chain and wasn't shown puppy manners. It seems like all that energy has built up and I've never gotten it out. I have had some training now, so I know sit, down, come and I walk well on a leash. Everyone says I'm a nice boy, I just need a runner, or someone to work me out and train me for cool stuff, things like agility, rally or nose work, or maybe give me another dog to play with so I can get this energy out! They say I'm easy to train because I'm food motivated - I say who doesn't like food? I also love playing in the kiddie pool they have at the kennel where I stay for now, but they said it's too cold now. One lady said something about dock diving, I don't know what that is, but if I get to go in the water, I'm all for it! If you're looking for a pup to do something active with, ask to meet me, you might be just what I'm looking for!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 7 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 71 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Unknown

Obedience Trained: Partially

Living with: Kennel

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Unknown

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Chloe came to us a surrender as her former owner did not like that she jumped up on her.  This of course can be controlled with training and correcting this at the time.  She lived in her prior home with other GSD’s and did well.  She has not been around children or cats, so we do not know how she does with them.  Chloe is a beautiful coated GSD, with the cutest ears.  She has been friendly with our volunteers, but unsettled with the changes in her life.  She did undergo a 3 week board and train, but her former owner did not attend training with her.  Training is just as much about training the owner as it is the dog.  You must learn to work together and create a bond.

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Kennel

History: Shelter

Description

Johnny came to us from a shelter, we have no history for him.  Since arriving in our care, he has been a complete gentleman. A little unsure with his new surroundings at first, but has quickly settled in. Johnny is a kind gentle soul and is very gentle with his handler. He enjoys belly rubs, being with his people, staying by his human's side, and will look to his handler for guidance. Johnny is a wonderful boy and anyone would be lucky to have him.

Updates:
Johnny is starting to settle in with our volunteers but is still lacking confidence and trust; however, as he gets to know the people he decides to trust more, he greets them with kisses and tail wags. Because of Johnny's insecurities, he would learn from a home with a confident dog to help show him the way forward. Johnny would also do best with a handler who has prior GSD experience as well to help build his confidence with training and reinforcement. Keep an eye on Johnny's progress and ask to meet him if your home may be a good fit for him.

Description

Bellair made her way to us from a shelter where she had been surrendered, for reasons unknown.  She is new to us, so we are just getting to know her.  We know that she prefers the company of male dogs over female dogs.  She needs training, consistency and a schedule.  Without this she has no idea what her new family expects of her, it is your job to guide and teach her.  She is a pretty petite girl, which will make it easier for leash walks.

Updates:
We've gotten to know Bellair a bit more since she's been with us.  What a pleasure this lady is to work with; it is apparent that she likes to work.  She seems to know so many commands but quietly tests out the handler as she works.  Once she figures out that you mean business, she handles beautifully.  Bellair is clearly food motivated and doesn't require much tension on the leash when a redirect is needed.  She corrects quickly and responds nicely when given an activity.  She loves balls, and will play fetch, then carry the ball around with her.  She has excellent behavior at the vet, she is even good about the thermometer.  She is easy to leash up, jumps into the car readily and is a very good car rider.  We're also told she's quite cuddly, could you see yourself cuddling with Bellair? , Bellair is enjoying life in her foster home. She has great house manners, is housebroken, and crate trained. She loves, loves, loves squeaky toys, treat-filled kongs and daily walks. She has started group obedience training with her foster mom and is learning that squirrels, rabbits, dogs, and cars don’t need to be chased while walking. Her new family will need to continue training, as Bellair has a high drive and will need a strong leader to help her become a good canine citizen. If Bellair sounds like she coudl be a good fit for your family, ask to meet her - she's a sweet lovable gem.

This handsome pup has not had the best start in life.  He has lived outdoors on a chain, not taught manners, leash skills or training.  Thankfully someone got him out of the situation and surrendered him to us.  He is one busy boy, he will jump on you, he will mouth you, he will pull you on the leash.  But with training, structure and direction he will learn to be well mannered.  He is still just a puppy at 8 months old, so expect high energy, playfulness, chewing things and all of the antics that come with having a young dog.  You absolutely need the time to provide him with daily exercise and structure, at this age he is no couch potato.
