Description

Glory came to us from a shelter so we have no history on her.  Since arriving in our care she has been friendly.  She previously lived wth another GSD.  She of course needs training, which help her learn good behavior and manners.  Glory is adjusting to living in a foster home, watch for updates.

Updates:
Unfortunately, Glory tested heartworm positive when seen by MAGSR's vet. This could have been avoided had she been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives.  Glory is in the beginning stages of her heartworm treatment, which of course MAGSR will pay for her entire treatment. Treatment is expensive but Glory is certainly worth the cost.  Donations towards her treatment would be greatly appreciated, this would also help us save other dogs with medical needs. She will have to take it slow for the next few months while undergoes treatment, so lots of rest will be in order. , Glory has started her heartworm treatment and is doing pretty well adjusting to the activity restrictions she needs to finish getting better. Glory is so sweet and loving to the volunteers who come to the kennel to get her out for some fresh air.  She is working on her sits, downs and stays and she takes treats gently. Glory would love to have someone to help her through the rest of her treatment and love her fur-ever - could that someone be you?

Description

Titan's human dad took ill and can no longer care for him.  Titan has had some turmoil in his life and will need time to adjust to the changes in his life.  He lived with teenagers in his temporary home before being surrendered to us.  Stability, structure and training will help him tremendously, this also helps build a bond between the dog and family.  At only 2 years old he does have lots of energy, lots of mental and physical exercise will help burn that young dog energy.

Updates:
Titan a very handsome, long haired GSD with a lot to offer.  He can sit, down, stay, walks well on a leash, loads in the car easily and takes treats very gently.  He's fine being brushed, AND having mats removed which is very important with his beautiful long coat.  Titan is a wonderful boy who will make someone a loyal companion.

Description

Sweet Strax found himself in a shelter when his family dumped him there.  The shelter staff love him very much and took very good care of him.  Strax has some skin issues which we are having looked into by a vet.  We are not sure if it's allergies to food, environmental or if it's something else.  His food has been changed to a grain free and he's on fish oil, it will take some time to see if this helps.  Strax lived with children in his previous home, he was cat tested at the shelter and he did well so he may be able to live in a home with cats.  He is such a well mannered, even keeled boy.  He takes everything in stride, welcomes all people he meets and will play bow when introduced to other dogs.  Strax seems to be an overall well balanced boy who would fit well into anyone's life.

Updates:
Strax is a very laid back boy, easy to walk, wants to be around you all the time, loves people, wants to meet everybody, good with other dogs, is crate trained, loves ice cubes. Bottom line, Strax is amazing! His foster parents cannot go to the refrigerator without him running up and looking at the freezer for his ice cube. Strax thrives on making his humans happy. His foster parents call him their dream dog because he is so easy and dedicated. Strax LOVES his donated Nylabone as much as we love Strax!  Strax would be an amazing family dog in his furever home. Does Strax sound like the perfect fit for you? If so, ask to meet him.

Description

Dakota came to us from a shelter.  We have been told that she is a people person, enjoying being by your side and following you around.  She also adores children according to the report we received.  She has been around cats, but she seeks them out to play.  This may be too rough for some cats if not properly managed.  We are also told that she is good with dogs of all sizes.  Sadly it looks as though she was used for breeding then dumped.  She has no leash skills at this time, but this is something our volunteers will work on.  She requires training to teach her good manners.  She has energy as she is young and will require daily exercise.

Oso

Adopted: 09/14/2018!

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 12 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 91 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Foster

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Oso a very handsome, big boy weighing in at 105 lbs.  Although he is large, he is a gentle giant.  Oso's favorite activity is to play with balls, the more balls the better, yes even soccer and basketball size balls.  It is imperative that all dogs go through obedience training and Oso is not exception.  With a dog of this size you want to have good manners, this will make walking him on a leash much more enjoyable.

Unfortunately Oso was returned to us.  Family members moved into his home, after he had lived there over a year, with small dogs that Oso did not get along with, so he got the boot.  He was fine with the neighbors female GSD.  He came back to us over weight so he has been put on diet, that along with exercise he should be down a good weight in no time.

Updates:
Oso sure does LOVE balls, all sizes, squeaky and otherwise, this boy goes nuts for them!  He's a very calm, loving sweetheart who will be a great companion on walks or just hanging around.  He's easy on the leash, takes treats gently, sits nicely for brushing and knows basic commands.  A training class will help with bonding to this honey of a dog, once complete you will have a wonderful friend.  Just look at that smile, with his size and demeanor, he's sure to impress! , Oso has been a very good boy in his foster home and very respectful. Oso knows sit and stay until he gets his release command before he goes for his food and he is working on and getting better about taking treats gently. Oso loves belly rubs and loves being petted on the head and around the ears (he's a real fan of shoulder massages). Oso will give his human kisses. Oso is working on his leash manners and after walking a bit, will settle into a nice heel. Oso is a very kind and gentle soul. If Oso sounds like a good fit for your family, ask to meet him.  , Oso is settling into his new foster home more day by day. He know basic commands such as sit and down. With a strong leader, he walks well on a leash. Oso is completely house broken and has had no accidents in the house although he doesn't know which door to go to because he hasn't been in his new foster home long enough to know. Oso loves being pet and let's you know he wants attention. He is well behaved in his crate when he can't hear or see anyone. When he knows his humans are around, he wants to be with them. Oso loves being in his foster home but he would love a furever home instead.

Sarge

Approximate Age: 20 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 67 lbs

Living with: Foster

History: Stray to Shelter

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Hi  friends, my name is Sarge and I am interviewing prosepctive forever families. Let me explain my situation and get you up to speed. I managed to get myself in quite a pickle as I landed myself in local  shelter as a stray. I am not really sure what a stray is but I will figure that out later.  The accommodations were not bad. They were really nice to me and I did get a warm bed and two squares a day! It was kind of rough though because I was use to em... certain luxeries. I was at this place for about a month when they told me my foster family was coming to pick me up and bring me home! They are amazing and I am really living it up here wth them but foster mean temporary until my perfect home presents itself. They told me I can stay as long as I need to which makes me so happy. I even heard them say they were taking me to acupuncture this weekend so I am hoping that is some sort of massage and they provide treats! I will update later on how that goes.. So dont worry, I am in a good place as I interview

So back to my requirements.. you know a senior gentleman has certain needs and things we become accustomed to. I like a soft orthopedic bed with a blanky, I demand regular head and belly scratches, and daily treats. And let's be clear, I DONT enjoy steps and can only get up or down one or two steps because I sustained a bad pelvic injury in my younger days that never healed correctly so I only get around on three legs. My back leg is pretty useless although it does help to steady me when begging at the table... I have learned to compensate for my injury and do still enjoy playing and romping in the yard. My new family will need to provide some pain meds and supplements to help keep me as pain free as possible. Here is a positive.. I am totally house broken but do require to be let out every few hours as in my old age I just can't hold it as long as when I was a young buck.. My favorite past time aside from eating is sleeping because don't forget I am a senior boy and require several naps.. I am the most laid back guy that you will ever meet! I like my doggie friends big and small! I am just an all around great companion and just want a person to call my own. I will follow you around and lay at your feet! If you feel you could be my forever family and provide for my senior needs please apply above! Love Sarge

Housebroken: No, I'm a puppy!

Obedience Trained: No, I'm a puppy!

History: Shelter

Good with Cats: Yes

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Autumn cannot be any cuter and is absolutely a great little girl, happy go lucky and loves to give puppy kisses.  Autumn has a lot to learn about going a good canine citizen and will require training.  Please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family - puppies are a ten to twelve year commitment.  Puppies are full of energy and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things.  With time, patience, guidance and training, Autumn will become even more of an amazing girl than she already is.  Please inquire if Autumn sounds like a good match for your family.

Updates:
Autumn is a loving, fiesty, high energy puppy.  She's getting along great with her foster brothers and sister.  She enjoys squeaky toys, kongs, nylabones, tennis shoe inserts, tennis shoe strings, charging cords - did we mention she was a puppy?  She is learning "no" quickly, sits nicely for treats and settles after minimal protest in the crate for the night.  With the proper training that every dog needs, she's going to make someone a wonderful companion! , Autumn is doing well learning the manners she had not been taught during her rough start to life. Autumn sits for treats and also before she is fed. She settles in her crate for some quiet time and at night for bed. She loves toys of any kind, including balls, stuffed toys, nylabones - and still has a love of shoes, but now knows 'leave it' so drops them when told. Autumn gets along well with her foster brothers and sister, as long as they're ready to play!  Autumn is feisty and appears to want to be the dominant one. Autumn's fosters are still working on the no teeth rule with her, as she gets pretty excited getting out of her crate. Ask to meet Autumn and you won't be disappointed.

Luna

Adopted: 09/05/2018!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 7 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 32 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Puppy in training

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Foster

History: Shelter

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Luna along with other family members were dumped at shelter.  Not often we are happy when dogs are dumped at shelters, but in this families case they are lucky they were.  The family of Shepherds lived outside, no vet care, no vaccines, no preventatives.  They were all crawling with fleas and ticks.  When Luna arrived we noticed she has lazy eyes and was uncoordinated, along with a lump on her head.  The vet did a thorough exam, Luna's eye sight seems fine, but the vet feels that she may have suffered from head trauma which caused the lump and the unsteadiness.  She may or may not improve with time.  With all of that aside she is a beautiful, playful and curious puppy.  She deserves a special family who sees the beauty she is.  Please be prepared for a puppy as they are time consuming, they need training, socialization, lots of exercise and a lifetime of love and care.  Yes, puppies chew things they shouldn't, they get into things, they have potty accidents and they have lots of energy.

Updates:
Luna is doing very well in her foster home. Luna pounces everywhere and loves to play with her foster brother and gets along well with the other resident dogs as well, who are all much bigger than she is. Luna's foster parents are teaching her how to do steps in the home and she's working hard to master them. Luna is food motivated, incredibly affectionate and loves everyone - she loves to snuggle and give licks and kisses. If Luna sounds like a good fit for your family, please ask to meet this sweet girl.

Description

Astro came to us an owner surrender.  This is a perfect example why you do not get a child a dog and expect them to be the caregiver.  The child, after 3 weeks no longer was interested in caring for him, even though he promised he would.  The parent did not have time, nor the knowledge to care for a GSD puppy.  Astro did not have training and was doing your typical puppy behaviors...chewing, jumping, nipping.  Without structure, guidance and training to teach good manners his puppy behaviors continued as no one taught him otherwise.  Astro is now in the care of a loving foster learning acceptable behaviors, good manners, getting lots of exercise and structure.  Astro is a sweet boy, he will need a family to continue to provide him with training and structure, along with positive reinforcement.

Description

Amber was surrendered to us as she was not getting along with the other resident female dog.  Amber likes to be the alpha, so she would do better with a non dominant dog.  She has been around children and did well.  She also did well with a visiting a larger laid back dog, although she does play rough.  As you can imagine her world as she knew it has been turned upside down.  We are giving her time to settle in so that we can get to know her better.

Updates:
Amber is a well mannered girl who does well walking on a leash or just sitting at your feet. Regardless of what you're doing, she is happy, so long as she with you. She is a serious pup, that is reserved around strangers. Once you've earned her trust she's a very warm and loving dog. Amber isn't the dog that's going to jump and bark to show her affection. She's the dog that walks up, rubs up against your leg, then sits down and leans on you to accept your calm affection. Amber can sit and stay, but is still working on down. This is a very well mannered lady that will make someone a wonderful companion!

Description

Sophia along with other family members were dumped at shelter.  Not often we are happy when dogs are dumped at shelters, but in this families case they are lucky they were.  The family of Shepherds lived outside, no vet care, no vaccines, no preventatives.  They were all crawling with fleas and ticks.  Sophia has a secondary skin infection caused by the flea infestation.  She is currently on antibiotics.  She is so very sweet, she enjoyed spending time with our volunteers being loved on.  She did well in the car and at the vets for her exam.  Sophia deserves to know what a real family is, one that will love, care for and cherish her.

Updates:
Sophia has settled nicely into her foster home. It is a big transition from being outside all of the time to being in a home with a family. When Sophia first arrived, she sat by the door expecting to be put outside. Over time, she is understanding that inside with her people is a good place to be. She sleeps in her crate without whining or crying unless she needs to go out. Sophia loves treats and takes them very gently even from the resident children. She also loves walks but is a little hesitant of things she doesn't know. Sophia is getting medicated baths a few times a week to help clear up some skin issues she currently has from her past neglect before MAGSR. But, Sophia is a trooper and takes everything in stride. Rocky

Adopted: 08/28/2018!

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 7 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 56 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Unknown

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Foster

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Older Kids Only

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Rocky was an owner surrender as his person had no time for him.  It is so important when taking on the responsibility of a pet that you have the time and patience to work with.  Rocky is a 6 month old untrained big puppy.  He was not taught any manners, nor were his puppy behaviors addressed.  He will jump on people, he is mouthy, will chew things he shouldn't and have accidents in the house.  He is in need a good training program and a family that will teach him acceptable behavior.  Socializing him with lots of people and other dogs is critical, as it is with all dogs.  Due to his lack of manners we will not place him in a home with very young children.  He will need a strong leader who is willing to work with him and burn off his high puppy energy.  Prior puppy GSD experience is required.

Updates:
Rocky has made good progress with socialization and rules in his foster home. He goes for walks with the resident GSD several times a day and passes many other unruly dogs in the community and he is learning to be on his best behavior and waits in a sit until they pass. Rocky is learning he does not have to be jealous of other dogs and getting attention and by waiting patiently for his turn, he gets a lot of love and attention. Rocky is working on sit, place and heel and is learning quickly. Rocky is nervous meeting people and doesn't like people approaching him until he's ready to meet them. Rocky is being desensitized to random objects around the house like trash cans, recycle bins and yard signs - all things that when initially in his foster home, freaked him out. Rocky is an insecure boy that needs confidence that everything isn't going to hurt him. He is learning to trust his foster mom and his loving personality is coming out towards her and he sits at her feet whenever he can. It will take time for Rocky to build trust with his human - patience, commitment and training is a must with Rocky. If Rocky sounds like a good fit for your household, please ask to meet him.

Description

Happy birthday Jackson! Today was Jackson's special day and we are doing everything we can to celebrate his life. Jackson came to MAGSR after he was surrendered to a shelter. We are still learning about him. But here is what we know so far. Stay tuned for updates.

He appears to have been neglected as he is very thin. However, he is interested in his food when his people are with him. He is incredibly sweet and is such a mild mannered boy. He is very quiet but is inquisitive about everything that is new to him. He is very curious about other dogs. Yet is respectful of them and has shown the desire to play with dogs that are respectful of him. Jackson does not seem to know what toys are about which is very sad. But he is  happy to hang out, relax and enjoy head scratches and belly rubs. He stresses during car rides and does not stay in one place. But remains quiet throughout. Today, he was at peace lying on the grass, decompressing as he was watching the squirrels in the trees after all the changes he has been through. He will need a family that is patient, consistent and empathetic for what he may have experienced in his life previous to MAGSR. However, he walks well on leash and is happy to go where you want to explore. He will thrive with someone to show him all the world has to offer. At the present time, he doesn't appear to be a lap dog but at the same time, is a dog who is looking for someone to bond with.

Updates:
Jackson has settled in nicely to his new foster home. He is house broken and a real love. Jackson loves the resident children and frequently just curls up next to them for some love while he relaxes. Right now Jackson is working on putting on some weight and has a lower energy level. As he gains weight, we are sure his energy level will increase. Jackson walks beautifully on a leash. He doesn't pull or lunge at anything including squirrels, deer, other dogs or cars. If you are looking for a loyal companion, please ask to meet Jackson. He'll be a wonderful addition to any family!

Description

Axel was surrendered to us as he barked and whined too much.  At only 7 months old he is still very much a puppy that needs guidance, structure, exercise and most importantly training.  A young dog is a busy and energetic dog that needs both physical and mental exercise, without they become bored.  Axel lived with 3 young children in his previous home and did very well with them.  He also lived with another large breed dog who he got along with.  Currently he is underweight, but with good nutrition and regular meals he should start gaining.  With the recent changes in his life he is somewhat shy, but with stability and having the love of a new family he should gain his confidence.

Description

Grace came to us from a shelter we have no history on her.  Since arriving in our care she has been friendly, she rides well in the car and did well at her vet visit.  She previously lived wth another GSD.  She of course needs training, which help her learn good behavior and manners.  Grace is heartworm positive, this could have been avoided had she been kept on monthly heartworm preventatives.  Grace is in the beginning stages of her heartworm treatment, which of course MAGSR is paying for her entire treatment.  She will have to take it slow for the next few months while undergoes treatment, so lots of rest is in order.

Updates:
Grace has completed her heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free. Once Grace bonds with her human and gets comfortable, she becomes protective of her space. This can be easily managed by putting her away in a secure room and/or crate when people come to the home. She will also benefit from a strong leader, who has prior experience with the breed, and who will provide appropriate correction and training. Grace will not meet families with children under the age of 16. Grace is very excited to be able to run and play just like any other dog once again. Now she’s even more interested in finding her forever home and family to share her love with. Could that be your family? , Miss Grace is just as beautiful, sweet, bouncy, and eager-to-please a dog as you could ask to meet. She’s doing wonderfully in her foster home, crates beautifully, does great out and about in the car and in public places, loves her foster siblings, and bonds tightly to her person. She’s been going to training just about every Saturday for months and has developed very nice obedience – she knows her basic commands, and she is great at staying where she’s been put in a sit or a down and won’t move – well except for her tail which is pretty much always wagging! Grace is protective of her space with people she doesn’t know, and needs consistent handling and proper introductions, but once she warms up to someone, Grace’s wonderfully upbeat and happy personality shines right through – with her bushy happy tail “always on!” Please ask to learn more about Grace if you think she might be a good match for your family.

Description

Sawyer came to us an owner surrender.  In his previous home he lived with young children, unfortunately one of the children is autistic and he was not treating Sawyer kindly.  Sawyer would growl, then get up and move away.  This was not fair to Sawyer so the family felt it was best for Sawyer to find a new home where he would be treated kindly.  He is a handsome long hair boy, his coat does need some care and a good grooming.  His foster mom has been working on getting the matts out and Sawyer will be having a spa day.  He has made himself at home in his foster home, he's a very nice boy.

Description

Ballot came to us an owner surrender as his former person took ill and could no longer care for him.  He is a large, very handsome, long haired male.  His coat is not in the best condition at this time as he did not receive the grooming a long coated dog requires.  He will be a having a spa day to remove dirt and matted fur.  He is a friendly boy, he does need to learn some good manners which training will help with him,

Updates:
Howdy! Ballot checking in. I'm very happy here and my humans love me a lot. We have a lot of fun. I'm learning a lot too....mostly what not to do. I've started making a list of things I'm not supposed to do: Steal towels, especially when they are wrapped around a human. Get in the shower with my humans. Lift the lid on the toilet to get a drink. Bite the hand of the person throwing my ball. Counter-surf Sit on the tables Sit on the kids laying on the floor Recycling bin inspections. Run off with socks and underwear laid out for the kids Nibble while giving kisses. Run off with and hide shoes. Look the humans in the eye while we're both standing Lay on the kids while cleaning their faces (this is very hard not to do because they are really squeaky when you do this) Pick out my own books from the bookshelves. Put both front feet in the water bowl when drinking. Open the door myself. Grab and eat the fish food containers Did I mention that I'm pretty? I'm also pretty good at getting in my crate when told, and waiting for the humans to go up and down the stairs first. I'm learning to sit and wait for the humans to go through the door first. I love to play ball and am very good at catching them in the air. They tell me I'm pretty smart and learning quickly, I just have a lot to learn right now. I'm very friendly with all the humans that come in the house and the ones we meet outside too. I don't let my humans get too far away because they like me to keep an eye on them. I love love love the pool and get in it everytime I go outside. I get fed three times a day and am trying to add a few pounds to help me fill out a bit. My humans comb and condition my hair everyday, it makes me smell awesome and my hair is sooo soft now. I still have a few clumps behind my ears and at the back of my head but we're working on them. The pool is calling my name so I better get going. Bark at ya laterz, Ballot
