Adopted MAGSR Dogs

Mika’s story began like far too many dogs in the South — picked up as a stray and brought into an overcrowded shelter system where countless wonderful dogs never get the chance to leave alive. Thankfully, Mika caught the attention of the right people. They recognized immediately that she was an exceptional girl who deserved a future filled with love, safety, and family.

When MAGSR was asked to help Mika move forward, we knew her life was absolutely worth saving. Welcoming her into rescue was one of the easiest decisions we’ve made.

Mika is an absolute sweetheart who wins hearts everywhere she goes. With her soulful eyes and affectionate personality, she has a gentle presence that makes people fall in love instantly. Somewhere along her journey, Mika was fortunate enough to receive positive socialization with dogs and other animals, giving her a wonderful foundation of social skills that her future family can continue to build upon. Like any German Shepherd, Mika will thrive in a home that provides structure, consistency, and clear expectations. Ongoing training will be an important part of her success — helping her continue to strengthen bonds with her family while growing into a confident and well-rounded canine citizen.

Unfortunately, Mika is currently heartworm positive, a condition that could have been prevented with monthly preventative care. The good news is that her treatment has already begun, and she is on the road to recovery. Over the next few months, Mika will need a calm environment while she heals. Heartworm treatment is costly, but we know this beautiful girl is worth every penny. Astra is a young, gorgeous girl who was found scared and fending for herself near a busy road. She was understandably scared and needed a little convincing that the people around her were there to help. Astra is a smart girl though, and it didn't take long for her to realize that her saviors were trustworthy folks- very soon after rescue she was showing to be an affectionate girl who had clearly had human and dog socialization in her short life. So she waited for her family to come and claim her...and was left waiting. Seeing that Astra deserves a family that understands the breed, the shelter contacted MAGSR to ensure that Astra got the happily ever after that she so deserves. 

Astra craves attention, routine and mental stimulation. She loves to be brushed and doted upon, and she has exhibited good social skills with other dogs. She wants to be with her people and is a willing training partner, once she has a chance to warm up to her handler. Astra has started to learn some basic obedience-- walking on a leash and basic commands-- and will need a family dedicated to continuing to teach her manners and provide structure and routine in order to be a productive member of doggy society. Astra is kind hearted and smart as a whip, but she does appreciate a slow hand and someone willing to allow her to pause, assess and adjust before pressing forward with handling and training. Slow intros to new people, pets and surroundings allow her to use her sheppie smarts to realize she is safe and secure in new situations. Due to her stressful time spent near a busy road, Astra is particularly skittish near roads, so she will need a steady handler to teach her that traffic is to be respected, but not feared, and extra care should be taken to keep a tight hand on the leash as she learns to trust. Like any young shepherd, Astra's ideal family will be prepared to give her physical outlets as well- she is ready to run and play and needs a family that can keep up with her!

MAGSR is honored to be a resource to shelters in need. And when one of our shelter partners reached out trying to find a safe landing for two shepherd pups, we knew we had to answer the call! 

At 9 weeks old, Olive and Martini are littermates learning all about the world. They are as close to a blank slate as you can get when adopting a dog! While we do not know much about their parentage or how they ended up at a shelter, we do know that they have their whole lives ahead of them to be shaped and molded into great canine citizens. They have seen plenty of change in only two months of life, but routine and stability will be the perfect remedy to set them up for long term success.

As with any puppy, these two are playful, curious and adorable babies that bring joy and laughter, but also require patience and persistence to mold them into their best selves. When MAGSR heard that three beautiful young German Shepherds were at risk of euthanasia because they were terrified and available to rescue only, we answered the call.

At 8 months old, Kessa and Kaiser are adorable bookend twins and half-siblings to 9-month-old Cherry. The three share the same father, while Cherry has a different mother. They had lived outdoors their entire lives, and when their breeder could not sell them, they were surrendered to a local shelter. Understandably, the sudden change left them frightened and unsure.

Simply getting Kessa and Kaiser out of the shelter environment allowed us to see a whole new side of these sweet babies. Kessa is a little more confident than Kaiser, but both are making tremendous strides. They love going for walks and romping around the play yard, where their playful personalities are beginning to shine.

These pups need to gain some weight and are currently on a carefully monitored refeeding program, as they did not have the best start in life. Having never lived inside a home, they are working on housebreaking and learning household routines. Each will need a patient family committed to continued training, guidance, consistency, and reassurance as they build confidence and learn what it means to be a beloved family member.

Darwin had a storybook start in a loving home with all things he needed and deserved. He was adored and cared for until one day his "mom" suddenly and tragically passed away.  Unfortunately, none of her friends or family were in a position to offer Darwin a way forward and he was surrendered to a shelter at the young age of nine months. Like far too many dogs, Watson was picked up as a local stray and brought to a nearby shelter to wait for someone to come claim him. Shelter staff worked hard to ensure he had everything he needed, but life inside an overcrowded shelter — especially one undergoing ongoing construction with limited kennel space — quickly became overwhelming for this young shepherd.

German Shepherds are incredibly intelligent, sensitive dogs who often struggle in stressful shelter environments. Day after day, Watson tried his best to cope with the noise, chaos, and constant activity around him. While staff did everything possible to keep his spirits up and make him comfortable, they knew shelter life was no place for a dog like Watson to spend his days. A plea for rescue support was sent out, and fortunately, one of MAGSR’s wonderful foster families had an opening. Team MAGSR quickly welcomed Watson into the family, giving him the chance to finally decompress and begin learning what stability feels like.

Young, handsome, and intelligent, Watson embodies many of the classic German Shepherd traits people know and love. He is playful, enthusiastic, and absolutely adores toys — especially balls. In fact, chances are good you’ll find him proudly carrying one around wherever he goes. Watson approaches life with excitement and curiosity, always ready for the next game, adventure, or opportunity to make a new friend.

As a young shepherd with plenty of energy and drive, Watson will thrive in a home committed to meeting both his physical and mental needs each day. Exercise, structure, training, and enrichment will help him continue developing into a balanced and confident adult dog. A home focused solely on lounging around the house would not be the best fit for this active, playful boy. Watson is looking for a family that will appreciate his joyful spirit and help channel his energy in positive and productive ways.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his past, Watson has shown himself to be a social and happy dog. Bellini is a stunning German Shepherd puppy whose whole accidental litter was surrendered to a shelter. All were adopted except for Bellini and her sister, Sangria. MAGSR was happy to step up and help them find the perfect families to move forward with!

Sangria is a stunning German Shepherd puppy whose whole accidental litter was surrendered to a shelter. All were adopted except for Sangria, and her sister, Bellini. MAGSR was happy to step up and help them find the perfect families to move forward with!

Sangria's foster says she is a fan of couches and crime TV, but not so keen on stairs just yet. She describes her as a "snuggle bunny in sassy britches", and says she is confident, intelligent and a bundle of fun. They are particularly enjoying her puppy antics as she plays with her large foster brother. Sangria is learning the ins and outs of house training and general obedience. This little girl even prefers to walk herself on the leash! Her foster is doing an excellent job of getting Sangria out and about to socialize, which will be important for her future family to continue.

T-Rex made his way to MAGSR from a crowded southern shelter, where he waited quite a while for the safety of rescue. Every day, he shows us just how genuinely happy he is to have been saved from the euthanasia room.

At 1 year and 3 months old, T-Rex is a fun-loving, goofy boy who truly loves life! This medium-energy pup enjoys playing ball, going for walks, and spending time with his people. He absolutely loves the water, so if you’re looking for a hiking partner or swimming buddy, T-Rex is your guy!

As a young dog who has likely never experienced life inside a home, T-Rex still needs to learn the routines and manners that come with being part of a family. However, he is eager to learn, wants to please his people, and is already working on his training. He also did amazingly well at the vet and was patient and tolerant throughout his visit.

Lovely Lexi is the complete package. Unlike so many dogs in shelters and rescues, Lexi has a full, known history because since she was just a puppy, she has lived in a loving home. In fact Lexi's family loved her so much that when their circumstances changed to a degree that they couldn't offer her the same life she was accustomed to, they prioritized her safety and well being over their own hearts and surrendered her to MAGSR, trusting that we would give her a soft spot to land and the best chance at a fulfilling life. 

Gentle and sweet, Lexi is the life of the party- the kind of dog that doesn't know strangers- just friends she hasn't met yet. She is a bright and vibrant girl with a good deal of energy and a true zest for life. She has grown up loving children and other dogs, being very well socialized via playdates and doggy daycares. Lexi knows a few basic commands, and is a quick learner, but her exuberance and young energy means she will need continued work to learn proper manners such as not jumping up on people and counters, or pulling on the leash when she sees a squirrel or a new friend. Training will be fundamental in helping solidify a bond between Lexi and a new family, teaching her boundaries and allowing her to be a good citizen and a welcome addition to all of your adventures.
