Description

Joi’s life began as a beautiful gift — she and another dog were welcomed into a loving home where she was truly adored. When unexpected changes in the household turned her world upside down, Joi’s mom did everything in her power to keep her safe, loved, and healthy. When it became clear that Joi and her buddy deserved more than she could provide, she made the heartbreaking decision to seek rehoming. Joi’s partner found placement first, leaving her behind. But her mom never gave up. She kept searching for the right, safe solution — and when she reached out to the Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue (MAGSR) our team knew immediately this was a devoted owner simply trying to do right by her girl. We promised Joi’s mom we would find her an amazing forever family — one that will love her for a lifetime.

Joi is everything you’d expect from a typical German Shepherd — intelligent, affectionate, loyal, and ready for a challenge. She loves to work with her handler and is eager to learn. Having had some training early in life, Joi already knows several commands and is highly food motivated, which makes her a wonderful candidate for continued training. Ongoing training will not only sharpen her skills but will also help her build a deep bond with her forever family and grow into an outstanding canine citizen.

Because Joi has lived in a home, she understands many of the ins and outs of household living. That said, every home has different routines and expectations, so she will need time to decompress and adjust. With structure, consistency, clear leadership, and patience, Joi will thrive in her new environment. She can be a little protective of her food around other animals and prefers to dine separately from furry housemates — and honestly, who can blame her? When something delicious is right in front of you, it’s best enjoyed without interruptions!

Playful and toy-savvy, Joi enjoys a variety of toys and would love a home that keeps the fun coming. With the right family, she will absolutely shine. If you are looking for an intelligent, playful, and attentive companion who is ready to build a lifelong bond, Joi may be the perfect match for you.

Description

Sweet Mama Sage found herself in an incredibly tough situation in the South after being surrendered to an overcrowded shelter - one where many dogs step in but never get the chance to step back out due to a lack of space. Fate, however, had other plans. As Sage arrived with a hidden surprise inside, a local rescue volunteer happened to be walking out. Recognizing the danger Sage faced, she immediately began networking this lovely girl, determined to give her a chance at a future. At the same time, MAGSR was already in conversations about another dog at the same shelter. Knowing Sage (and her special surprises) had no other options, our team made the decision that saving a few lives was better than saving one—and the girls joined the MAGSR family.

Upon arrival, our volunteers quickly discovered that Sage brought more than one little friend along - she brought nine! Sage was pregnant and due very soon. Knowing this little family would need a safe place to begin, one of our amazing fosters stepped forward and welcomed the Sage into her home. The family would multiply significantly within a couple weeks. Just before 2026 began, Sage welcomed nine furry babies to the world - the Nature Puppies (Brook, Wren, Terra, Briar, Moss, Timber, Hawk, Falcon, and Buckeye)! These little bundles of joy have been learning all about the world around them while under the watchful eye of their mother, Sage, and their incredible foster family.

Unlike many babies who have joined the rescue family under very different circumstances, the Nature Puppies have had constant love, care, attention, and vetting since they were born. They have been learning social skills within a pack and have a good understanding of toys. Although these babies have had a loving start, it is critical that their forever families continue this process. Socialization with other people and animals in a variety of environments will be essential. Training will also be necessary for their success. Training will not only help the Nature puppies build a solid bond with their forever family, but it will also help these babies grow into good canine citizens.

Although the Nature Puppies are beyond adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, routine, and training, we know each of the Nature Puppies will become loving members of their forever family. If one of our wiggly puppies sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet them today!

Description

Sweet Sage found herself in an incredibly tough situation in the South after being surrendered to an overcrowded shelter—one where many dogs step in but never get the chance to step back out due to a lack of space. Fate, however, had other plans. As Sage arrived, a local rescue volunteer happened to be walking out. Recognizing the danger Sage faced, she immediately began networking this lovely girl, determined to give her a chance at a future. At the same time, MAGSR was already in conversations about another dog at the same shelter. Knowing Sage had no other options, our team made the decision that saving two lives was better than saving one—and both girls joined the MAGSR family.

Sage is a beautiful young dog with a soft caramel-colored coat and an even sweeter personality. Just under a year old when she entered her temporary foster home in the South, Sage was underweight but incredibly affectionate. With full meals, a soft bed, and a consistent routine, she quickly began to thrive. It became clear that Sage already had some important skills—she is social, walks well on leash, and loves to lean in for cuddles. Though her past is unknown, it’s obvious someone showed her kindness along the way. She is comfortable with people and other animals, and while she occasionally needs redirection when she gets a little too playful with the resident cat, she responds well to guidance.

Sage impressed her foster family by excelling with crate training and making great progress with housebreaking. When she recently traveled north to her current foster home in the Mid-Atlantic, it was clear that she had been enjoying her daily meals—she had gained some healthy weight. Upon closer inspection, however, it became apparent that the extra pounds weren’t just from good food… Sage was pregnant. Still a puppy herself in many ways, sweet Sage arrived with more than one little passenger. Knowing she deserves to feel safe, calm, and comfortable while finishing out her pregnancy, one of our incredible foster families welcomed her in and is providing everything she needs to rest, nest, and prepare for motherhood. Donations toward Sage’s baby shower can be made at https://a.co/angSJOp.

As Sage’s medical care is now being closely monitored, we also learned that she is heartworm positive—a diagnosis that could have been prevented with monthly heartworm prevention. Because treatment cannot begin until after her puppies are weaned, Sage will require careful monitoring over the coming months as she delivers, raises her babies, and later begins heartworm treatment. This care will be extensive and costly, but Sage is absolutely worth it. Please consider donating to support her ongoing medical needs.

Despite everything she’s been through, Sage remains a joyful, affectionate girl with a heart of gold. Because of her size, it’s easy to forget she’s still very much a puppy—and she does puppy things! She is eager to love, quick to bond, and ready to be someone’s very best friend when the time is right.

Stay tuned for updates on Sage and her growing family.

Updates:
The evening of 12/30, Sage went into labor. By 2:30 AM on New Year's Eve, all nine of her babies were welcomed into the world, cleaned, and fed. Despite being almost a puppy herself, mama Sage has been doing everything she needs to and, with the help of her amazing foster family, she and her beautiful puppies are doing well and the puppies are gaining weight nicely.

Description

Marvelous Maylee was found as a stray in the South and brought to a crowded shelter. Although it was clear she’d been well socialized with both people and other animals, no one ever came to claim her. With shepherds filling shelters and space running out, Maylee urgently needed a safe place to go. Thankfully, the staff saw how special she was and advocated for her. When we learned Maylee needed help and fast, our team stepped in to give this incredible girl the second chance she deserves.

Maylee is a smart, social, and eager-to-please young shepherd. Someone in her past clearly invested time in her—she’s treat-motivated, already knows several commands, and truly loves to work. Her ideal family will enjoy training and mental enrichment as much as she does. Like most shepherds, Maylee thrives when both her mind and body are exercised daily, which helps her feel confident, balanced, and happy. She’s very comfortable on leash and ready for any adventure: walks, hikes, or simply exploring the neighborhood. Maylee checks in with her handler often and takes direction beautifully. This is definitely a special little lady.

While we don’t know much about her past, we’re certain about her future: with patience, structure, and routine, Maylee will blossom. Training will not only help her continue developing good canine manners, but will also help her bond deeply with her new family. This is critical for all shepherds and Maylee deserves this opportunity to shine. Maylee is a truly wonderful girl looking for a family who will love her for a lifetime. If she sounds like your perfect match, ask to meet her today!

Description

Meet handsome Tundra, one of the Winter Litter puppies who is seeking his forever family. The Winter Litter—Tundra, Glacier, and Frosty—joined the MAGSR family a few weeks ago after being rescued from a local cruelty and neglect situation. An advocate reached out to local law enforcement after discovering these puppies were living in conditions that were simply unimaginable. When they arrived, all three were severely emaciated, full of worms, missing patches of fur, and understandably unsure of new people. They urgently needed rescue placement to begin their journey toward safety and healing. Thanks to our incredible foster families, medications, structured feeding schedules, and strong veterinary support, all three puppies were welcomed into the safety of the MAGSR family.

Tundra is an adventurous, intelligent, and motivated young pup who thrives when both his mind and body are engaged. Like many puppies who lacked early structure, Tundra needed extra support to learn the basics of being a well-mannered boy. Our team quickly stepped in to meet those needs by providing a predictable environment with clear rules, boundaries, and expectations. With his strong desire to please and excellent food motivation, Tundra has taken enthusiastically to training. He is learning leash manners and basic commands and truly enjoys working with his people. He’s developing the skills he’ll need to become a confident, well-rounded canine citizen.

While Tundra is undeniably adorable, it’s important to remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With patience, consistency, and continued training, Tundra has all the potential to grow into a stable, confident adult dog. If this handsome guy sounds like the perfect match for your family, ask to meet Tundra today!

Description

Handsome Joey was picked up as a stray in the south with a few other dogs. Fortunately, he was brought into the care of a southern rescue while they waited out his stray hold. When no one stepped forward for this sweet boy, the rescue began looking for an adoptive placement. Although Joey is clearly an incredible boy, with adoptions on the decline across the country and the number of dogs needing placement increasing, Joey was being looked over. Knowing this boy would be more successful in a different region, a plea for help with a rescue transfer was sent out. MAGSR was lucky to have an amazing foster home step forward for Joey so that he could move forward.

Joey is an absolute doll. As a stunning guy, he is already turning heads with his oversized ears, long tail, and joyful personality. It is clear that this guy was given opportunities to socialize with both people and dogs at some point along his journey which has resulted in a solid foundation. Typical for a young shepherd, Joey is both intelligent and active. He loves to run and play in the yard, enjoys goofing around with other dogs, and is beyond happy to join in on daily adventures. As he moves forward, it will be important that his forever family exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. This will help Joey maintain his impressive personality. Still developing basic commands and leash manners, training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will it help him develop a lasting bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen.

As a young, eager-to-learn pup, Joey truly thrives with consistent routines, clear structure, and ongoing positive training. This set-up is effective for developing confidence and clear expectations. With routines in place and activities completed, Joey couldn't be happier to flop into your lap for some cuddles and a good belly rub. He really is the full package - joy, entertainment, and love. Sweet, affectionate, and full of charm, Joey is a fun-loving companion ready to hop into the heart of his new family. Could that family be yours?

Description

Chase was first welcomed into the MAGSR family many years ago. With his impressive personality and sweet soul, it didn’t take long for him to find a wonderful home, where he spent several happy years as a beloved family member. Unfortunately, as life sometimes changes despite everyone’s best efforts, Chase found himself needing MAGSR once again.

Chase grew up with two children, lived peacefully with the family cat, and had interactions with other dogs. When a new family member arrived, a serious medical condition developed that resulted in a severe allergy to Chase. His family did everything they could to manage the situation, but when it became clear that things would not improve, they made the incredibly difficult and selfless decision to return Chase to MAGSR so he could find a new home. At MAGSR, we protect our own. When Chase needed help, we ensured he had a safe and loving foster home where he could settle in comfortably while beginning the search for his next forever family.

Chase is a sweet, loving, and deeply devoted senior boy. He loves wholeheartedly and comes with a solid foundation thanks to years spent in a stable, nurturing home. He understands household routines, is housebroken, and is crate trained. As with any dog transitioning into a new environment, Chase will need a bit of time to adjust to the routines and expectations of his future family. A fan of the great outdoors, Chase enjoys daily opportunities to stretch his legs, soak up the sunshine, and simply enjoy life. He hopes his forever family shares his appreciation for fresh air and adventures.

With his gentle spirit and steady presence, Chase makes an ideal companion. He is loyal, patient, and constant—exactly the kind of dog who quietly fills a home with comfort and love. Now in his golden years, Chase is looking for a family who will welcome him with open arms and cherish him for the rest of his life. If this special senior sweetheart sounds like the perfect match for your family, ask to meet Chase today.

Description

Stella found her match several years ago. Her mom welcomed this extraordinary girl into her heart and never looked back. An incredible pair, Stella and her mom had a special understanding of each other. They enjoyed their days together on the farm. With fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of daily activities, Stella's world was filled with joy and love. When Stella's mom started getting sick, family members stepped in to help out. Stella found comfort in her family, but missed her mom. As things improved, the two were reunited and all seemed well with the world. Recently, it was determined that Stella's mom needed some extra help and would no longer be able to live independently. Recognizing that Stella could not move into a facility with her mom, a heartbreaking decision was made - Stella would need to be rehomed. Knowing we protect our own, her family called MAGSR and asked for help. We knew this was not an easy decision for Stella's family. But, we promised we would care for this senior lady and ensure she had everything she needed.

Saying goodbye is never an easy option. We know that both Stella and her mom miss each other greatly. With such a significant change, Stella has been taking some time to take a breath and grieve. Welcomed into one of our senior foster homes, Stella's foster family is giving her time to adjust to her new surroundings. Soft blankets, comforting toys, and daily routine seems to be a welcome set-up. Daily time out in the fresh air also seems comforting. Stella has begun to check in with her foster parents regularly. A huge fan of a good head pat and attention on her terms, Stella is clear about her needs. Her foster family is always happy to give a head rub and some love. Very attuned to her environment, Stella likes to know what is happening around her and typically doesn't miss a beat. She is the perfect watchdog.

As a senior pup, Stella takes her time moving from one place to another and requires some additional support to remain comfortable. Senior needs are often very different from our younger pups and typically entail additional vetting, medications, and supplements. Team MAGSR will ensure that Stella has everything she needs to remain safe and comfortable. Although Stella will always receive the care she needs, senior care can be expensive. Please consider donating to Stella. Your donation will not only help us support her in the MAGSR family, but it will also help us continue to welcome seniors in need.

Description

Marlo is a stunning German Shepherd with a heart as big as his paws. He showed up at a country home down south and was reported as a stray, but when no one came for him, it became clear that Marlo was searching for something more—a family. He chose an incredibly kind home to visit and quickly showed what a wonderful dog he is. Marlo was great with the children, respectful of cats, and got along well with other dogs. One of his favorite things? The moment you approach him, he eagerly drops, rolls over, and offers his belly for scratches—clearly a professional at soaking up affection.

Although we don't know much about his past, it is clear that someone took the time to provide this boy with a solid foundation. Marlo is quiet and well-mannered in his crate and truly enjoys going for walks. Sadly, like many dogs from the south, Marlo is heartworm positive. The good news is that MAGSR covers all of his heartworm treatment, so his future family can focus on loving him and helping him heal. This boy is already moving forward with his care. Marlo will need to take it easy over the next few months while his body heals. However, as he is already a pro with the crate and responsive to the handler, Marlo is the perfect patient. Please consider donating to Marlo's care. Not only will your donation help Marlo receive the care he needs, but it will help us continue to welcome other dogs with medical needs.

Marlo is affectionate, gentle, and deeply loyal—ready to give his whole heart to a family who will give him the forever home he’s been waiting for. Could you be the one to give Marlo his happy ending?

Description

Striking Sarge, like so many dogs, found himself in a large, overcrowded shelter—unsure where things had gone wrong on his journey. The staff cared deeply and wanted the best for this big-hearted guy, but with limited resources, nationwide drops in adoptions, and an overwhelming number of dogs arriving daily, they simply couldn’t keep up. They knew Sarge deserved more than they could offer, so they began reaching out to rescues up and down the coast in hopes of finding him a safe place to land. Fortunately, when one of our sister rescues received the call for help, Sarge’s story made its way to MAGSR. Our team knew we couldn’t leave this boy behind. Working closely with local groups, shelter volunteers, and transporters, we ensured Sarge made his way safely into the MAGSR family. Sometimes, teamwork truly makes all the difference for a dog in need.

Although Sarge was already known as a big boy, our team quickly realized he wasn’t quite big enough. With ribs showing, a dull coat in need of vitamins, and a good bath overdue, we jumped right in to give him the care he needed to move forward. Through it all, Sarge showed us what a friendly, social guy he is—already comfortable with both people and other dogs. Sarge has a solid foundation, and it’s important that his forever family continue to build on it as he settles into his new home. Food-motivated and eager to please, he loves practicing his commands and happily works for tasty treats. He learns quickly, and with consistent training, he will continue to shine. Sarge is still working on his leash manners and, if given the chance, will gladly pull you along for the ride. Training will be a game changer for this handsome boy—helping him become a well-mannered adult shepherd while strengthening the bond with his new family.

Although it’s clear someone loved Sarge at some point and invested in his early training, we don’t know anything about his past. Like any new dog, he will need time, patience, and a clear routine to help him settle in. Structure and leadership will help him thrive. Sarge is looking for an active family who will love him for a lifetime. Could that be you?

Description

This lovely lady was in an overcrowded shelter, and just before her time was up, she was rescued by another group dedicated to making sure she's placed in a safe and loving home. That rescue later reached out for help with some of the dogs in their care, and as we all know, teamwork makes the dream work, so MAGSR didn't think twice before stepping forward to assist.

Taffy has been lucky to land in a foster home where she's finally getting the opportunities a young, energetic girl needs. Her amazing fosters have been helping her learn about the joys of being a puppy and taking in the world around her. With her fresh, sponge-like mind, this resilient girl is learning housebreaking, crate training, and polite behaviors that will lay the foundation for a well-mannered adult life. While she is still fine-tuning general manners on leash, she's got a great start and will benefit significantly as all young dogs do from continued training. Living with older rescue dogs, Taffy is quickly learning the ins and outs of pack life. She gets along really well with the other dogs and wouldn't mind landing in a forever home with another friendly pup to play with - or at least more consistent socialization so she can keep learning to speak 'dog'! Highly intelligent and observant, Taffy notices everything around her. She loves adults but struggles around small children. Without a high prey drive, she did well when tested with a cat; in fact, she was more afraid of the cat than anything else. With structure, routine, leadership, and clear expectations from a calm and confident handler, Taffy will blossom into an amazing adult. She'd like to continue her daily physical and mental exercise, all while building and strengthening her bond with her forever family - could that be you?

Description

Goose is one of those lucky pups whose life could have gone very differently — but thanks to a series of kind hearts and perfect timing, he's safe, loved, and ready for his forever home.

Goose’s journey started before he was even born. His mom, a stray in the South, was found starving and alone. Thankfully, an incredible family took her in, tried everything to find her original home, and when no one came forward, gave her the safety and love she so desperately needed. Just weeks later, she surprised everyone with eight beautiful puppies — Goose being one of them. Goose and his siblings were raised in a warm, loving home with their mom. One by one, his brothers and sisters found homes... and Goose waited. Knowing he deserved a bright future, the family reached out to MAGSR, and a wonderful foster family stepped in to help him take his next steps.

Goose is sweet, curious, and full of potential. He’s great with other dogs and is learning all about the comforts of home life: toys, treats, cozy beds, and couch cuddles. He’s had some exposure to new people and places, but continued socialization will be essential to helping him grow into a confident, well-rounded adult. Like all puppies, Goose will need time, training, and patience. He may chew, have accidents, or get into mischief — but with structure and love, he’ll reward you with a lifetime of loyalty and affection.

Goose is ready to find a forever family to grow up with. Could that be with you?

Description

Meet fabulous Frosty from the Winter Litter! This adorable baby is ready to find his forever family. The **Winter Litter—Tundra, Glacier, and Frosty—**joined the MAGSR family a few weeks ago after being rescued from a local cruelty and neglect situation. Thanks to our incredible foster families, prescribed medications, structured feeding schedules, and strong veterinary support, all three puppies were welcomed into the safety of the MAGSR family.

Frosty is a loving, playful, and intelligent young pup who thrives when both his mind and body are engaged. Like many puppies who lacked early structure, Frosty has benefited greatly from an experienced foster home that has begun teaching him the ins and outs of living in a home environment. Crate training and housebreaking were first on the list, and Frosty has been doing a wonderful job learning these important skills.

Living in an established pack has also given Frosty the opportunity to learn appropriate social skills and understand pack structure—an essential foundation for his long-term success. With a strong desire to please and excellent food motivation, Frosty has begun learning basic expectations. Continued training and consistent opportunities to learn will help him grow into a confident, well-rounded canine citizen. While Frosty is undeniably adorable, it’s important to remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With patience, consistency, and ongoing training, Frosty has all the potential to mature into a stable, confident adult dog.

If this stunning guy sounds like the perfect match for your family, ask to meet Frosty today!

Description

Hey Everyone,

I’m Stone, and I’ve had quite the "ruff" journey. After being picked up as a stray in the south, I made my way to the Mid-Atlantic so that I would have a real chance at a forever home at least that's what they told me. To be honest, I had been feeling a little lost and low; it just seemed like nothing was going my way. But, those days are behind me now, and I’m ready for my next chapter. I’m about four years old, up-to-date on all my vaccines, and loving life again. Especially, since I found my way to the MAGSR family.

Although it's clear I am one handsome dude, I’m also a total social butterfly—I love people and always want to be part of the action. With what they say is a solid foundation of social skills, whatever that means, I get lots of opportunities to meet new people and dogs too. Sometimes, I even attend doggy daycare where I enjoy my time with a variety of doggy personalities. As a southern guy, I’m getting used to the colder weather up north, and I can’t wait to see my first snow! I just know I’m going to love it who wouldn't, right? Just like all shepherds, I’ll thrive with training and consistency, and I’m eager to learn and make my humans proud. Since I'm an active guy, I’ll do best in a home with a yard to play in, where I can stretch my legs, chase toys, and enjoy the sunshine.

Whether it’s playtime, cuddle time, or just being your mild-mannered, ridiculously good-looking shadow, I’m your guy. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving, and handsome German Shepherd to join your family, I think we might be a pawfect match.

Shania, along with her sisters Reba and Lainey, came from an accidental litter. We are lovingly calling them the Country Puppies. Born without the resources or care they needed, the girls spent their early days living outside without consistent attention or guidance. Recognizing that the puppies deserved a safer, healthier start, their owner made the responsible decision to surrender them to MAGSR. This opened the door for each girl to grow into a confident, stable adult with the support of a loving family.

Shania is a brave little sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger desire for love. Despite her tough beginnings, she’s discovering just how wonderful the world can be—one cuddle, treat, and wagging tail at a time. Curious, affectionate, and looking for direction, she’s finally experiencing the positive moments she missed early on. Shania can be a little shy with new people and unfamiliar environments. She’s still learning that new experiences can be fun and that people are typically kind. Her foster family is working diligently to help her build confidence, and she is responding beautifully to their leadership. As with all shepherds, training will go a long way in helping Shania grow. It will not only teach her the skills she needs to be a good canine citizen, but also help her form a strong, trusting bond with her forever family. With time, patience, and consistent guidance, Shania is opening up and showing her people her truly amazing personality.

Having lived with several dogs in her previous home, Shania is dog-friendly and people-friendly. We don’t yet know how she’ll do with cats or other small furry friends, but time will tell. As adorable as she is, Shania is still very much a puppy. She will whine, have accidents, and entertain you with endless puppy antics. But with training, routine, and plenty of opportunities to learn, Shania will grow into an incredible adult dog. Her foster family has been working hard to build a strong foundation of skills, and she’s ready to continue her journey with a family who can provide the structure, routine, and encouragement she needs to thrive. In return, Shania will bring joy, devotion, and that special rescue-dog gratitude that fills a home with love.

Shania is ready for her forever family—could it be you?

Description

'Dashing Deacon’ was found prancing along the streets as a stray. Deacon is a devilishly handsome (possible SuperModel status) fella who is a two-and-a-half-year-old stunner of a long-haired black and red GSD looking for his ‘fur-ever’ family. Over time we have had the chance to get to know Deacon. With this knowledge has come a strong understanding of just how clever this boy is (and how much of a natural leader he is!). As a result, Deacon will only be placed with an experienced and assertive handler to help him become a strong, confident, and obedient companion. This striking boy has a strong personality and appreciates clear guidance from his people. Though he can be willful when he knows what he wants, Deacon is ready to channel his charm into becoming a model canine citizen. Already equipped with a solid training foundation, Deacon is looking for someone who will continue that training to build a confident and healthy bond. In fact, Deacon already knows his basic commands and then some. He can't wait to continue this process and may even be a good match for agility, fly ball, or scent work.

As a young, active shepherd, Deacon is looking for a family that can exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. True of all shepherds, pent up energy can result in unwanted behaviors. He is the epitome of the saying - "A tired dog is a good dog." Excited to match with a family that will provide daily opportunities to run, play, and train, Deacon will thrive with a routine that provides mental enrichment. Well versed with a variety of toys, this majestic fluffball absolutely loves soccer balls, lacrosse balls, squeaky balls, textured balls, really any ball he can chase and chew on! He also loves bones.. but sometimes he needs an extra reminder or two when asked to give them back! Deacon loves playing tug of war with his toys, wrestling with his humans, and he even does great at doggy day care. However, as is true of all dogs, it is important that Deacon develop relationships with other dogs in controlled settings over a period of time.

From time to time, Deacon is surprised by sudden movements and sounds; this often results in anxiety. With a clear understanding of Deacon's energy level and needs, his ideal match will not live in a city or busy neighborhood. A calmer, less hectic environment is key to Deacon's success. He prefers this type of environment to feel safe and secure. While the city-slickin' life may not be for him, we know he has the ability to thrive in a quieter, more spacious environment. While Deacon may have a few special requirements in our book, that is because he is a special guy just waiting for the right family to pick him up and take him to his FUREVER home! This boy has the biggest heart, and at the end of each day, he promises you snuggles and love. He even loves trying to be a lap dog! Does Deacon sound like the right fit for your home? If so, ask to meet him today!

Zazoo

Adopted: 12/28/2025!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 6 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 68 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Living with: Foster

History: Shelter

Good with Kids: Likely

Good with Cats: Unlikely

Other Dogs OK: Likely

Description

Lovely Zazoo lived in a loving home with kids and another dog. Unfortunately, when the family was unable to remain in their home, they could not find housing that would allow them to keep their dogs. As a result, they made the difficult decision to surrender the dogs to a local shelter. This is never an easy decision. However, sometimes families have simply run out of options. Shelter staff welcomed Zazoo into their care and made sure she had everything she needed to meet with success. Unfortunately, with shelters sitting at or above capacity, staff knew that Zazoo would be most successful if she was placed within a breed specific rescue. Knowing Zazoo would be a great addition to the MAGSR family, our team was thrilled to welcome her.

Zazoo is a stunning girl. Friendly, active, and smart this lady truly embodies the traits of a GSD. As is true of most shepherds, Zazoo will be most successful in a home that will exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. This will help her maintain her stable and confident personality. Having lived in a home previously, Zazoo did well with the children in the home. However, as is typical of the breed, she can be protective of the household. With some clear prey drive in place, Zazoo is not suited for a home with small animals or cats. She is already housebroken, crate trained, and knows many of the ins and outs of living in a home. It is important that her forever family, provide her with structure, routine, and leadership so that Zazoo can adapt to the expectations of her forever home. Well aquainted with toys, Zazoo loves to play and can entertain herself or interact with others.

Although Zazoo lived in a home, she does need to learn some leash manners. Our team is already starting this process. Training will go a long way with Zazoo. Not only will training help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen, it will also help her build a strong and healthy bond with her forever family. If sweet Zazoo sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today!

Description

Charming Canela has already lived quite the story for such a young pup. Originally picked up as a stray in a big southern city, she was brought to an animal shelter where it seemed she had found her happily ever after. But life had other plans — about a year and a half later, Canela was found wandering the streets once again. Thin, in need of care, and clearly having spent too long on her own, she returned to the shelter where staff helped her begin to heal. As shelter numbers rose and options ran out, Canela’s future looked uncertain. But fate stepped in just in time — thanks to the compassion of several rescue groups, volunteers, and a loving foster, Canela was saved and welcomed into the MAGSR family.

Since then, Canela has been thriving. She was initially placed with a wonderful temp foster family. They ensured she received the medical attention and love she needed, and even helped her take her first flight north to a new beginning! Knowing that Canela would benefit from continued support within a knowledgeable placement, she was placed with one of our amazing foster families. Canela is a gentle, affectionate girl who can be a little shy at first. It’s clear she hasn’t always known consistent love, but with patience and understanding, her warm, loving personality shines through. She’s learning the joys of being part of a home — things like structure, routine, and kindness have helped her blossom beautifully.

Canela will continue to thrive with a family who can offer her patience, consistency, and balanced training. Training will not only help her build confidence but will also strengthen the bond she’ll share with her forever family. If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate, and resilient companion who’s ready to start her next adventure with you, Canela might just be your perfect match.canela_

Curious, affectionate, and eager to bond, she’s finally experiencing the positive moments she missed early on. Lainey absolutely loves people. She adores her foster family and has done well meeting extended family members. True to the shepherd personality, Lainey is a loyal little shadow—never far from her people and always keeping a close eye on them. As with all shepherds, training will play a vital role in helping Lainey grow. It will not only teach her the skills she needs to be a good canine citizen, but also help her form a strong, trusting bond with her forever family. Description

Jade’s life didn’t start the way it should have, but her heart never stopped hoping. In a perfect world, every dog would begin life with gentle hands, a full belly, and a soft, warm bed to call their own. Unfortunately, not every dog gets that start. Some only experience brief glimpses of kindness when the right people cross their path. Jade is one of the lucky ones.

Bred solely for breeding, Jade never had the chance to learn what it means to live inside a loving home. The feel of carpet beneath her paws, the rhythm of family life, and the comfort of being a cherished companion were all unfamiliar to her. But from the moment she stepped into safety, Jade began showing us who she truly is. With her gentle heart, loving personality, and resilient spirit, Jade has impressed everyone she’s met. She is a blank canvas in many ways—new to household life but incredibly smart and picking up on things quickly. She adores her people, loves her walks, and leans in eagerly for snuggles and all the pets she can get. Her flowing long coat and expressive eyes turn heads everywhere she goes, but it’s her sweetness that warms your heart. True of all shepherds, Jade thrives with structure, consistency, and continued training. She’s eager to learn and is discovering just how wonderful life can be when someone believes in her.

Welcoming Jade into a family means giving her what she always deserved — stability, kindness, and a place to finally call home. She has so much love waiting for the right person or family, and she’s ready for her best chapter yet.

Description

Handsome little Kaiser, affectionately known as Kai, was born in a tough area. Although it’s clear he wasn’t always treated kindly, somewhere along his journey, Kai must have met someone who showed him love — and that kindness has stayed with him. Picked up as a stray, Kai made his way to a very small shelter with limited resources. While the dedicated staff do everything they can to make sure each dog feels loved, they simply don’t have many options to help dogs move forward. Fortunately, a local rescue group works tirelessly to network the dogs in this area, hoping to find as many of them a safe option as possible.

With so many rescues sitting at or over capacity, Kai’s chances were uncertain. But when MAGSR learned about his situation, our team decided we would find a way to make things work — and brought Kai safely into the MAGSR family. Kai is curious, cautious, and a huge cuddle bug. This “pint-sized” shepherd is the perfect buddy for daily walks and playtime. In many ways, he’s a pocket shepherd — full of personality and heart in a smaller package.

It’s clear that Kai hasn’t always been treated well, so he needs a little time to warm up to new people and situations. However, with a few tasty treats and some sweet “puppy talk,” he quickly comes around. Like all young dogs, Kai will benefit from plenty of opportunities to socialize with new dogs, people, and environments. A social dog is a stable dog, and these experiences will help him grow into a confident, well-rounded companion. Training will also go a long way in helping Kai strengthen his bond with his forever family while developing good manners and self-assurance.

Kai is a delightful little guy — happy to be your shadow, eager for cuddles, and so ready to find a forever home of his very own. Could that be with you?

Raina

Adopted: 12/21/2025!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Mix

Approximate Age: 7 years

Color: black and tan

Current Size: 61

Ideal/Potential Size:

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Living with: Foster

History:

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Likely

Other Dogs OK: Not good with small dogs

Description

Raina was given to her family by a friend who felt she would be a good match for their household. Although she was clearly loved by her family, Raina struggled in a city environment. As a result, her family made the difficult decision to surrender Raina to MAGSR so that she could find the family and living environment that would help her develop into the incredible girl they knew she could be. Raina is a friendly but driven girl. As is typical of most shepherds, Raina is intelligent, active, and alert. In order to meet with success, Raina will need both her body and mind exercised daily. She is not a couch potato and will do best with an active family. Although Raina is working on her interactions with other dogs, she would prefer a family where she can be the only dog so that she can be the center of attention. Raina is housebroken and crate trained. She also knows a few commands. However, as is true of all shepherds, Raina will need to attend training in order to develop into the amazing shepherd we know she is destined to be. Training will not only help Raina develop into an amazing dog, but it will also help her bond with her new family. If this active lady sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Updates:
Miss Raina is a remarkable girl. She’s been in foster here for a little while now, and with each passing day we are more appreciative of her charm:  She’s so very sweet, intelligent, and engaging, and though on mature side she is very athletic, agile, active, and extremely highly driven, focused, and determined. She is the proverbial energizer bunny, and she has an outsized chest and huge lung capacity, so incredible endurance. She runs along with the recumbent bike at any speed and for any distance.  She is confident and unphased by city sidewalks and streets with their traffic and noise, and is always ready for what’s next.  She’s happiest with at least a moderate measure exercise every day, but quality is at least as important as quantity.  Her toy drive is off the chart, but mental stimulation and engagement is what she thrives on.  And she does spend most of her day happily in a state of calm repose (but is certainly ready to go at the drop of hat, or a toy!).  She has proven here that she can get along well with other dogs her size and enjoy their company, she meets people happily and graciously, learns quickly, and has good obedience.  But she must have appropriate structure and engagement.  If she is bored, frustrated, and improperly managed, she will likely find trouble.  She doesn’t need wide open spaces so much as she does leadership and companionship.  Miss Raina will thrive and offer the biggest love to someone who understands her and can give her the love, leadership, and lifestyle she so richly deserves.  Please let her know if you’d like to interview for that labor of love!

Description

Grab your tissues for this heartwarming story of selflessness and love—a true Christmas Miracle.

While visiting Mexico, an amazing couple encountered a man caring for a pack of homeless dogs. When the couple asked this man what they could do to help him, he begged them to save a puppy in dire need. The pup was injured and the man worried that this baby would not survive without help and fast. That puppy was Rico, who had been brutally beaten with a metal pipe. Unsure what to do at first, they approached Rico who was lying in the bushes nearby. Although clearly in severe pain, Rico managed to greet his visitors with gentle kisses and sorrowful eyes. Knowing they couldn’t leave Rico to die in the streets, this couple made the selfless decision to step and do everything they could to save him.

Recognizing that time was of the essence, the couple found a veterinary hospital where they learned he had broken hips and severe internal organ damage. Additionally, Rico had been shot with pellets remaining near his vertebrae—a surgery too risky to undergo without more advanced surgical options. Despite these injuries, the couple knew that this boy deserved every opportunity to live. So, they began working with the medical team at the veterinary hospital to provide Rico with the care he needed to move forward. After tests, blood draws, vaccines, a neuter, an FHO, and physical therapy had been completed, it appeared that Rico was on the mend. However, concerns about continued kidney inflammation began to worry Rico's veterinary team. Unfortunately, they did not have the resources or expertise to do more. Recognizing that Rico needed more advanced care that could be found in the United States, the couple began pleading with the rescue community for help. Although they contacted endless numbers of rescues, with numbers at critical levels in most places, they struggled to find placement. Knowing that Rico needed additional help as soon as possible, they continued their search. When our team learned that Rico needed placement, we knew he was meant to be a MASGR dog. We welcomed Rico the family and promised him that we would help him get the care he needed to move forward.

Over the last month, Rico our incredible team has been working with Rico to get him the help he needs to move forward safely. Living in an incredible foster home, Rico is being doted on daily. He loves his foster family both human and canine, particularly his foster mom. An absolute sweetheart, Rico is gentle, loving, and a total cuddle bug. He is the definition of a velcro dog and will happily fall asleep in the arms of his foster mom. As Rico has needed significant medical support, our team has been slowly moving from one need to the next guided by our phenomenal vetting partners. Needing rounds of antibiotics, surgical intervention, and recovery time, Rico has been a star patient. He seems to know that our team is doing everything we can to ensure that he meets with success. Rico is currently recovering from his first surgery, but will need another in the near future. The cost of his care is very expensive. Please consider donating to Rico's medical needs. Your donation will not only help us continue to support Rico along his healing journey, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs.

When he is ready for adoption, Rico will be looking for a patient family that will give him time to adjust to the routines and expectations of the household. He hopes that they will have plenty of cozy beds and will fill his days with endless snuggles. We will provide updates as Rico's journey continues.

Description

Mila was spotted running loose in the south. Knowing that the area she was in was unsafe, members of the community contacted animal control for help. Mila was picked-up and brought to animal control where she waited patiently for her family to come and claim her. Unfortunately, no one stepped forward for this little love. Shelter staff knew that Mila deserved an amazing forever home that would cherish her; however, with numbers significantly over capacity and adoption adoptions limited, they could not keep her off the list to be euthanized. Recognizing that Mila's only chance at survival was within the safety of a rescue, staff reached out to rescues for help. When MAGSR heard that Mila was out of options, we knew this sweet girl would be safe in our care.

Magical Mila is a goofy, affectionate, and intelligent girl. As an adult shepherd, Mila is stable and well socialized. Although Mila has clearly known love at some point along her journey, we do not know how she found herself alone and wandering. We do know that Mila is special. As a deaf dog, Mila has been navigating her world without sense. Intelligent and beyond excited to learn, Mila has been fortunate to have been placed with one of our training partners - Mason Dixon K9. With daily training, opportunities to continue to socialize, and plenty of time to play, Mila is thriving. It is highly evident that this girl is special. Although we do not know what experiences Mila may have had in a household, we do know that she is ready to learn. With structure, routine, and leadership, Mila will meet with success. She is already learning about crate training as well as basic leash manners. Mila is looking for an amazing family that will provide her with daily exercise, plenty of toys, and endless cuddles. If you are looking for an affectionate girl who will love you for a lifetime, look no further than Mila!

Description

Hi there! My name is Olaf, and I’m a handsome eight-year-old Shepherd mix who made my way up from the South. Although I thought I might find my happily ever after in my first rescue placement, after sitting in rescue with no movement and no family to call my own, the people in charge thought it was time to open up my possibilities. So, they started making some calls, sending these things called emails, and out of nowhere I was told they were packing my bags for another placement. With the help of some really kind people along the way, I made my way to the MAGSR family. I've quickly discovered that they made the right choice for me.

I'm not sure if you know this already, but I am one special little dude. I may not be quite as large as some of the other dogs in the rescue at about 45–50 pounds, but what I lack in size, I make up for with an enormous heart. Since I am already neutered (whatever that means) and up-to-date on all my vaccines (just in case you didn't know I was the perfect gentleman for these), I am more than ready for a fresh start and a forever family. I’ve got that classic GSD spark, but I’m more of a medium-energy guy—I love playtime and outdoor adventures, but I also appreciate a good chill session.

Unlike some of those younger pups, I already have a good understanding of some of the ins and outs of living in a home. I am housebroken and kennel trained. I can get a little anxious when my people leave, but that just means I bond deeply and love with my whole heart. I am told I have some great doggy "social skills." For those of you that don't know, that means I’ve done really well with other dogs at the shelter. I have a talent for making friends everywhere I go. Although my human and doggy friends are great companions, I do have a high prey drive, so no cats or small critters for me. But, I promise to make up for my lack of patience with these little critters with loyalty, affection, and plenty of goofy charm.
If you’re looking for a devoted boy, who is ready for his next adventure, consider welcoming Olaf into your family. He's ready to follow you anywhere (even to the  couch). He just may be your perfect match

Description

Not all babies are born into loving homes where they have everything they need to thrive. Some start off well but things go south as they get a little older. It seems likely that Heinrich is one of those babies who knew kindness early on but was abandoned as he got a little older and left to fend for himself. Fortunately, a kind person found him and made sure he was brought to the safety of an shelter where staff could ensure he had everything he needed. Although Heinrich was surrounded by kindness, had daily meals, and a safe place to sleep, due to overcrowding he still wasn't ensured a safe and loving forever home. Knowing this sweetheart deserved the opportunity at a life filled with love, a rescue plea went out for help. Fortunately, team MAGSR had an opening for this adorable boy and was able to welcome him to the family.

Heinrich is clearly a handsome young pup. A sweet boy who loves attention and playtime, this baby easily wins over the hearts of everyone he meets. With a solid understanding of toys and a zest for life, Heinrich fills his days with playtime, people time, doggy interactions, and endless cuddles. He is hoping his forever family will give him plenty of opportunities to continue to socialize. This is critical to his success as an adult GSD. Living with one of our amazing foster families, Heinrich is learning all about the joys of living in a loving home. He is crate training well and sleeps solidly through the night. He is also housebreaking beautifully and has very few accidents at this point. With a little more time and training, we know this boy is going to meet with success.

Description

Rocky and his buddy, Misty, were adopted from MAGSR a few years ago by an amazing family. They were cherished beyond words and have known the power of love. Sometimes life throws a curveball and things change in an instant. When an unexpected circumstance arose, their family knew that Rocky and Misty needed a safe place to land. So, they contacted MAGSR. Knowing these dogs were lucky to have an incredible family that would do anything for them including giving them up, we immediately welcomed both Rocky and Misty back to the MAGSR family.

Rocky is a big, sweet, loving boy. Social, affectionate, and always ready for a good lean in, when Rocky loves you, he loves you with his whole heart. An alpha by nature, this honey leads with a calm and confident nature. He knows exactly who he is and has a stable personality. Having lived in a phenomenal home, Rocky appreciates the joy of a soft, warm bed, endless toys, and daily interactions. Crate trained, housebroken, and comfortable with the daily activities of a household, this boy understands the expectations of living in a home. However, as is true of any new dog, Rocky will need time to adjust to the expectations, rules, and routines of his new family. A smart guy, Rocky already knows several commands. He enjoys daily walks and is happy to hang out with his people outside. Although he has some training on board, Rocky will benefit from attending training with his new family. Not only will training help Rocky develop a strong and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Handsome Rocky is looking for a forever family that has plenty of toys, treats, and snuggles. If your family is looking for a calm, confident, and playful guy who will fill your home with love, ask to meet Rocky today.

Description

Not all babies are born into loving homes where they have everything they need to thrive. Some start off well but things go south as they get a little older. It seems likely that Sky is one of those babies who knew kindness early on, but was abandoned as he got a little older. Fortunately, a kind person made sure he was brought to the safety of MAGSR, where they knew he would find a safe and loving forever home and a life filled with love.

Sky is clearly a handsome young pup. A sweet boy who loves attention and playtime, this baby easily wins over the hearts of everyone he meets. With a solid understanding of toys and a zest for life, Sky fills his days with playtime, people time, doggy interactions, and endless cuddles. He is hoping his forever family will give him plenty of opportunities to continue to socialize. This is critical to his success as an adult GSD. Living with one of our amazing foster families, Sky is learning all about the joys of living in a loving home. He is crate training well and sleeps solidly through the night. He is also housebreaking beautifully and has very few accidents at this point. With a little more time and training, we know this boy is going to meet with success.

Although Sky is beyond adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, training, and leadership, we know that Sky will develop into an amazing adult dog. He is already learning so much! If your household is looking for a smart, playful boy, who loves a good snuggle, ask your adoptions team to meet Sky today!

Description

Cheon Doong, which means Thunder in Korean, is a stunning, soulful 7-year-old German Shepherd whose heart is as big as his paws. Deeply devoted and endlessly affectionate, he was once the cherished companion of a loving dad—his whole world. When his person passed away unexpectedly, Cheon Doong found himself confused and grieving. But his family knew one thing for certain: their loved one would want his loyal shadow to be safe, happy, and loved again. That’s when MAGSR stepped in. Now part of the MAGSR family, Cheon Doong is looking for a new chapter—a soft place to land and a heart to call home.

Cheon Doong is a gentle, patient, and incredibly loving dog who thrives on connection. He’s especially affectionate with women and children, always adapting his energy to be gentle and calm. Whether it’s quietly resting his head in your lap or following you from room to room, Cheon Doong just wants to be near the people he loves. Despite his size, he’s remarkably respectful—no pushiness, no guarding, no chaos—just steady companionship and soft eyes that say, “I’m here for you.”

Having lived in a caring home, Cheon Doong comes with an impressive foundation. In addition to being housebroken and crate trained, Cheon Doong is also well-mannered around food. Clearly socialized with other dogs, he has a polite manner around other dogs and has even lived with a small dog. His greatest strength is likely his understanding of the needs of children.

Typical of the breed, Cheon Doong is a sensitive soul who does best with calm leadership and a steady routine. He may experience separation anxiety and can get nervous in stressful situations like vet visits, but he responds beautifully to reassurance and consistency. Cheon Doong is still mastering leash skills and can be strong in exciting environments. His ideal family will understand the needs of large-breed dogs and offer the structure, routine, and continued training he needs to thrive. As a mature gentleman, Cheon Doong doesn’t require an overly active household—just one that will include him in daily life, provide him with love and purpose, and understand that adjusting to a new home takes time and patience. With the right match, Cheon Doong will find purpose and companionship. He is a loyal, loving dog who wants to belong again. Cheon Doong is ready to give his heart to someone new. All he needs is a family who sees him not as a project, but as a partner.

If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, and devoted companion who will reward your love with lifelong loyalty, Cheon Doong may be your perfect match. Ask to meet him today and help this gentle thunder find the quiet, loving home he so deeply deserves.

Updates:
When Cheon Doong first arrived, he was understandably very nervous. He was also quite anxious around the leash and especially the prong collar. Just seeing them would trigger panic. We’ve been working slowly on desensitizing him, and he has made a lot of progress in just one week. He still has big feelings when touched around his collar or when he sees a leash, but he works through his fears more quickly now and is able to start his walks. We began with pack walks to help ease his anxiety, and now he gets excited when it’s time for a walk, whether solo or with the pack. We are continuing to work on his leash manners as he can be a bit strong sometimes, but he is getting better by the day. He’s really enjoying exploring the neighborhood and is settling into a nice routine. He’s done well with our other two dogs, though we’re being cautious about their interactions since Cheon is eager for attention and we want to avoid creating a jealous dynamic. He’s a very smart boy and clearly has had some training before. He understands commands in both English and Korean, including sit, stay, down, and paw, though Korean does seem to be his language of choice. We’ve also started working on touch, place, and settle (in English). He’s very food motivated, which makes training fun for him and us. Cheon is a great car passenger. He easily gets in/out of the car, and gets a big goofy smile when we let him stick his head out of the window to take in all the smells. He’s doing well in his crate, and overall he’s proving to be a really good dog. He has the biggest brown eyes that are so expressive and yearn for pets. I’m excited to keep working with him and watching his confidence continue to grow. In terms of food, with his chicken allergy, we successfully transitioned him to the salmon-flavored Taste of the Wild kibble. He can be a little picky, so we’ve been adding toppers or a splash of beef broth to encourage him to finish his meals. , Cheon is doing great and has settled in beautifully with our two resident dogs. He loves playing with our smaller pup and shows such patience when she gets a little too energetic. He’s also very respectful and gentle with our older shepherd, always letting her take the lead. While he enjoys canine company, Cheon’s true focus is on his people. He’s an incredibly loyal and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than burying his head in our laps for neck scratches. As he started to bond with us, he did experience a bit of separation anxiety, but we worked with him over a weekend—coming and going at short intervals—and he quickly learned that we always come back. At home, Cheon has proven to be a wonderful house guest. He’s respectful of the rules, settles nicely, and seems to understand the rhythm of home life. He’s calm indoors, knows when it’s time to relax, and has great manners. Cheon has been doing wonderfully on walks. We’ve been using a harness recently since he had a small procedure on his neck (which is nearly healed now). He gets compliments everywhere we go and he might just be the most handsome dog in the neighborhood!
