Description

Bright eyed Amari was given as an unexpected and unwanted gift to a child. Although she was cute as a button, the child's caregiver recognized that puppies require a lot of love, attention, and guidance to become stable, adult dogs. Knowing that this was not something they could do, they began looking for a rescue option for Amari. Fortunately, a rescue network began working together to try to find Amari placement. When MAGSR learned that Amari needed placement, our team immediately stepped forward to help.

Amari is a sweet, energetic, and curious pup. As is typical of her breed, she has endless energy and great drive. Very attentive to the handler, Amari is going to be the star of training class. Having already developed a strong ball drive and a love for playing, Amari is hoping that her forever family has a good throwing arm. Living with an amazing foster family, Amari has already begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a home. She learning how to crate train and housebreak while also developing an understanding of the rules and expectations of the household. A smart girl, she picks up new learning quickly.

Unfortunately, Amari fell very ill after arriving in our care and had to be rushed to the emergency room as she had become lethargic, couldn't hold food down, and was not able to defecate. Knowing that Amari deserved every opportunity to survive, MAGSR made sure Amari got the care she needed. After extensive bloodwork, x-rays, fluids, and an ultrasound, it was determined that Amari needed immediate exploratory surgery for concerns with potential hernias and potential repairs to her bowels. Once surgery began, our incredible veterinary team discovered that Amari was suffering from double hernias that had entangled her bowel and cut off blood flow. Luckily, this was found in time and her surgical team was able to repair both hernias and resect an area of the bowel. Can you help with her care?

Amari has returned to her foster family and is beginning her recovery. We were so lucky to have an incredible team working together to help her survive. However, Amari's medical needs have been very expensive. We need your help. Please consider donating to Amari's medical needs. Not only will this help Amari get the care she needs, but it will also help us help other medical dogs in need. Amari will be recovering with her foster family over the next few weeks. Once healthy, she will be looking for an active family that will help her exercise her body and her mind on a daily basis. If this stunning girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Description

Dean and his ten siblings (the Gilmore puppies) found themselves in an overcrowded shelter in the south. The number of dogs needing placement is simply overwhelming shelters across the country. Unfortunately, these babies, like so many other dogs, were in need of help fast. Recognizing that these babies deserved every opportunity to meet with success, staff at the shelter sent out personal rescue pleas attempting to keep this large family alive. When we heard that the Gilmore puppies needed placement, our incredible team began putting together plans to welcome all eleven babies into the rescue.

The Gilmore puppies are a social, playful, and interactive bunch. They have clearly had opportunities to socialize with people and other animals. However, this process has just begun. It is essential that their forever families continue to provide opportunities to socialize with people and animals in new and safe environments. This will help the Gilmore puppies develop stability and confidence as adult dogs. Training is also critical for these babies as it will not only help them create a healthy bond with their forever families, but it will also help them develop into good canine citizens. The Gilmore puppies have all settled into amazing foster families where they are learning the comforts and routines of living in a home. They are learning about toys, treats, and the joy of a good nap. As they move forward, the Gilmore puppies will be looking for loving forever homes that will continue to provide them with structure, routine, and leadership. Although these babies are cute as can be, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, we are positive these babies will grow into incredible adult dogs. The Gilmore puppies will open for adoption on April 22nd. Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Ideal/Potential Size: Large

Housebroken: Working on it

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Living with: Foster

History: Other Rescue

Good with Cats: Unknown

Description

Tej and his family - Novi, Anshu, and Asha - were dumped on the side of a busy road in the south. With traffic flying past at high speeds, this little family was not likely to survive for long. Fortunately, a good samaritan saw what was happening and stopped to try to help the family. With an incredible stroke of good luck she was able to corral the family and convince them to hop into her car. From there she took them to a rescue friendly boarding facility. Although the authorities were contacted and a stray hold was put into effect, no one came forward. Recognizing that this family would benefit from rescue placement, a plea went out for help. MAGSR knew this family deserved the chance to move forward as a unit, so our team welcomed all four members into the rescue.

Tej is an adorable, goofy, and interactive guy. Clearly well socialized with people and adults, Tej is your typical goofy ball of energy. He loves playing with his sister and prefers to be close to his people. Although Tej is already building a solid foundation of skills, it is critical that his family continue to provide him with opportunities to socialize with new people, animals, and environments. This will help him develop into a stable adult dog. It is obvious that Tej is an absolute love, but please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, Tej will develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. If this little love bug sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet him today!

MAGSR knew this family deserved the chance to move forward as a unit, so our team welcomed all four members into the rescue.

Novi is a stable, playful, and energetic girl. Clearly well socialized with people and adults, Novi is in many ways your typical, loveable ball of energy. She loves playing with her brother and still likes to know her people are close. Although Novi is already building a solid foundation of skills, it is critical that her family continue to provide her with opportunities to socialize with new people, animals, and environments. This will help her develop into a stable adult dog. It is obvious that Novi is an absolute doll, but please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, Novi will develop into the good canine citizen we know she is destined to become. If this little sweetheart sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Updates:
Novi requires a total hip replacement which will be WELL over $10K.  All too frequently people choose to inappropriately breed dogs that are not health tested, and this has led to an increase in young dogs being born with genetically poor joints, particularly hips in German Shepherds. Novi, at less than a year old, has found herself in pain as she navigates hips that do not have the ability to support her growth. MAGSR is committed to getting her the highest standard of care, which means having her on a pain management program, hydrotherapy, and a total hip replacement surgery. She will also likely need extensive physical therapy post surgery and ongoing monitoring of, and possible future surgeries on, her other joints as she grows and the joints mature. Novi has a team of dedicated veterinary staff and MAGSR volunteers helping her forward-- do you want to be a part of her happy ending? Donate to her care now, and share her story with others!

Glory

Adopted: 05/06/2023!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 3 years

Color: Sable

Current Size: 57 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size: 60lbs

Housebroken: Likely

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Kennel

History: Surrender to Shelter

Good with Kids: Older kids, over 16

Good with Cats: Unlikely

Other Dogs OK: Not good with small dogs

Description

Just like the endurance of ‘Old Glory’, ‘Our Gal Glory’ is standing strong and searching for a stable surrounding to call her own.  Glory is a gorgeous, 3 year old sable that was an owner surrender due to her previous owners not completely understanding the breed and necessities of German Shepherds. Not only will Our Gal Glory need to play a little catch-up in training, but she will need to undergo treatment for heartworms, a condition that could have been easily avoided with the proper care.

As we are still learning about Our Gal Glory, she has been observed as very true to the breed: loyal, strong, eager to please, while craving guidance and structure.  So far she has held her own during play-time and has been noted to play rough.  Given her strength and temperament, it’s best if Glory is with larger dogs, older children and probably best suited for a family/persons who are familiar with the breed.

Glory is eager to find the right FUR-ever family, and to lead her through the proper training and would thrive in a home where her family is either familiar with German Shepherds or is eager to learn about the temperament of the breed while providing the essentials -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

Our gal Glory will need some TLC before her ‘Southern Lady Boot Camp’ begins.  If Glory sounds like the Southern adventure you would like to blaze trails with, please ask to add her to your family today!

Katie Ann

Adopted: 04/28/2023!

Gender: Female

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 1 year

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 107 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size: 75 lbs

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Living with: Foster

History: Other Rescue

Good with Kids: Older kids, over 16

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: No

Description

Lovely Katie Ann was picked up as a stray and sheltered by another rescue while they waited for her stray hold. Unfortunately, no one came forward to claim this lovely girl. Although they enjoyed their time with Katie Ann, the rescue caring for her felt that she would be most likely to find her forever family if she moved into a breed specific rescue. When asked if we could help Katie Ann take the next step toward her forever home, MAGSR immediately stepped forward.

Katie Ann is an affectionate and friendly girl especially with her people. She greatly enjoys the company of the people within her sphere and seems to understand the ins and outs of living with a family. However, as is true with most shepherds, Katie Ann will overbond if given the opportunity. This can cause her to become overprotective of her people, her property, and her home. In order to meet with success, Katie Ann is looking for an experienced household that will work with her to develop a healthy relationship. Boundaries and clear expectations are very helpful to her success. Katie Ann will thrive with routine, leadership, and structure. Training will also go a long way with this lovely girl. Not only will training help Katie Ann bond to her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a good and stable canine citizen. Katie Ann has already begun to learn some basics with our volunteers, but she will flourish with continued training. Although Katie Ann can be walked calmly in areas with other dogs, she is looking for a home where she is the only dog. Best placed with a confident handler, Katie Ann is looking for an active family that will commit to her for a lifetime. If this lovely lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.
