Description

Mable was picked up as a stray in the south. When she arrived at the shelter, it was highly evident that this girl needed help. Extremely emaciated, still lactating from a recent litter, heartworm positive, and suffering from dislocated hip and a fractured pelvis, shelter staff knew this girl was in rough shape. Although she was unable to walk, Mabel was still all tail wags and love as she attempted to interact with shelter staff, particularly when they brought high-value treats to say hi. Recognizing that they did not have the resources to help Mabel, the shelter added her to their list to be euthanized as a way to end her suffering rather than leave her in pain and without proper care. Fortunately, a foster for another rescue in the area stepped up for Mabel at the last second and she was pulled just in time.

Living in the safety of a loving and experienced foster home, Mabel started the long path toward recovery. Strengthening her system for the road ahead, Mabel began gaining some much needed weight. With good nutrition and the chance to begin healing, Mabel made the progress needed to start addressing her health concerns. A few weeks ago, Mabel underwent surgery for her hip and pelvis. She was a champ throughout the entire process and is recovering nicely. As the healing process is moving along as expected and Mabel is feeling much more like a healthy dog again, her foster mom knew it was time to find a breed specific rescue for Mabel so that she could move forward with . Knowing we could help Mabel complete the rest of her medical journey as well as find her an amazing forever home. Mabel is still healing from a FHO but is mobile and doing well. She needs restricted walks and should not be bouncing around for a few more weeks. As Mabel is heartworm positive, she will be on restricted exercise moving forward. Due to the condition in which she arrived in foster care, Mabel needed to gain strength and weight before heartworm treatment could begin. As these milestones have been met, Mabel can begin this next process. Mabel is good with other dogs and people. She is unknown for kids and cats.

Updates:
Magnificent Mabel has been in a loving foster home for several months. This has given her the opportunity to work through the healing process, learn the ins and outs of living in a home, and continue her journey forward. She has been a phenomenal house guest and her foster family adores her. As Mabel arrived with several medical needs, our team has been working hard to address each need. One concern at a time seems to have been most effective for Mabel. Over the last few months, Mabel's heartworm treatment has been our focus. This treatment takes a few months and requires crate rest while the body slowly and safely clears the worms from the heart. Mabel has been a champ as she waits patiently for that magical day when she can bounce around, go full out with the zoomies, and explore the world again. With one last blood test coming up in early October, Mabel is ready to move forward. With another piece of the medical process just about finished, Mabel's incredible vetting team has been working with her to further address her mobility needs. Mabel's FHO in the spring was successful; however, having had a shattered pelvis the healing process has taken time and Mabel has lost muscle and some movement in her back legs. Recognizing that Mabel needed some extra help to rebuild her mobility, our team began the next phase of Mabel's recovery - physical therapy. Working with one of our amazing vetting partners, Paradise Animal Hospital, Mabel has been participating in weekly sessions to improve her strength, movement, and overall quality of life. Although Mabel can be hesitant in new situations and with new people, she has done an incredible job with her physical therapy team. Honest and hardworking, this lovely lady has been an incredible participant. She is picking up new commands and is beyond thrilled to indulge in cream cheese treats with each session. Not only is physical therapy helping Mabel rebuild strength and muscle, it is also helping her start learning some new commands. She is now a pro with sit, crate, and feet up. Her team and foster family will be expanding these commands to include touch, look, and down in the coming weeks. Clearly an intelligent girl, we know Mabel will excel with these added pieces of her program. Please consider donating to Mabel's care. Not only will your donation help Mabel continue to access the help she needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support the medical needs of the dogs in our care. Mabel is looking for a forever family of her very own. She knows the right match is out there and is working hard to build new skills so that when they find her she is all ready to go. If this incredible girl is the right match for your family, ask to meet her today.  , Magnificent Mabel has made some incredible strides in the last few months. This special girl continuously impresses her foster family with her resilient personality and endless joy. Throughout the late summer and into the early fall, Mabel completed her heartworm treatment. She was so very patient throughout this process and has been given the all clear from her vet to enjoy her freedom. Beyond excited that she can play ball, get the zoomies, and go for daily long walks, Mabel has been smiling from ear to ear and can't seem to stop. With her heartworm treatment complete, Mabel dove into physical therapy with her team of volunteers, techs, and vet behind her. Toy motivated and a huge fan of cream cheese, Mabel made phenomenal progress throughout the fall and graduated from her program this past week! The rehab department working with her will miss Mabel's visits, but they are so excited that she is ready to move forward independently. Having addressed her medical needs, Mabel was now ready to begin her basic training. Fortunately, Mason Dixon K9 trainers recognized that Mabel was a special girl. To ensure Mabel had every opportunity to find the perfect family, they worked with her to develop the skills she needed to succeed. Mabel has learned several commands and has learned to look to her handler for direction. She loves to please and thrives on praise and endless belly rubs. To ensure that Mabel maintains her skills, as part of her training Mabel has been gifted with lifelong support from her training team at Mason Dixon K9. There's no doubt that Mabel will be a great addition to her forever family and her training team is ready to support her transition into a new home. In the beginning, we knew that Mabel was sent to us so that we could be a part of her healing process and help her to move on with her life. Mabel has overcome so many hurdles and done it gracefully. Mabel requires a slow introduction to new people and dogs but once you are in her trusted circle she loves hard and is extremely affectionate. She thrives on belly rubs and companionship. She loves long walks, as well as, hanging with her favorite people rolling a ball around, chewing a bone or just snuggling in for cuddle time. If you think Mabel could be a fit for your home please inquire today.

Description

Sweet little Babka was picked up as a stray and brought to an overcrowded animal control facility. Although she maintained her gentle demeanor, this little lady was, understandably so, frightened in the shelter. Recognizing that when shelters are over capacity, dogs will be euthanized for space, the rescue community began working collaboratively to pull Babka before she was in danger. Fortunately, an incredible group of people from various rescues came together and helped MAGSR welcome Babka to this family. We could not be more delighted by this little girl.

Beautiful Babka is the epitome of sweetness. Polite, friendly, and responsive to the handler, Babka is the whole package! Fortunate to be living in an amazing foster home, Babka has left shelter life behind her and is adjusting beautifully to the routines and expectations of a household. She is quickly housebreaking and crate training so that she has the skills and knowledge needed to move forward with her forever family. Although she is making huge strides, it is important that her forever family continue to provide her with the leadership and routine needed to meet with success. Living with other dogs in her foster home, Babka has a more submissive personality and enjoys the company of her canine friends. She clearly has been socialized around other animals. However, as is true with all puppies, Babka's forever family will need to continue this process to ensure that she develops into a stable and confident adult. Unreactive to small creatures in her environment, Babka may be a good match for a home with small dogs or cats. In fact, when out and about with her foster family, Babka seems unphased by most things. She really is an impressive girl.

Although Babka is a doll, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, training, and structure, we are sure that Babka will grow into an amazing adult dog. Babka is looking for a forever family that will give her daily exercise, provide exciting toys, and plenty of snuggles. If this sweetheart sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet Babka today!

Description

Recently, the MAGSR family welcomed a small litter of cruelty and neglect survivors - the Chipmunks litter. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were born into a home with limited resources. The boys did not receive the food, medical care, daily support, or environmental cleanliness necessary to ensure that they were healthy pups. Upon arrival, our team discovered that the boys were malnourished, riddled with worms, dirty, and sick. In addition, two of the boys had some additional medical needs that raised immediate concerns. Theodore arrived with a large, fluid filled lump on his head which was likely the result of trauma. Simon arrived with a dislocated back right leg that had been out of the socket for some time. Recognizing they needed immediate support, volunteers worked collaboratively to get their vetting addressed, begin a safe feeding schedule, and move all three pups forward. Unfortunately, just as we thought the litter was moving in the right direction, two of the boys popped positive with parvo. Knowing that immediate care was needed, the boys were rushed to the emergency room where they were hospitalized. Parvo is a highly contagious virus; it is particularly challenging for puppies with weak immune systems to survive. Keeping the boys hydrated, controlling their GI upset, preventing secondary infections, monitoring their bloodwork, and providing medications, one of our incredible vetting partners provided the boys with the critical care needed to fight. Parvo care is very expensive. But, we knew these babies deserved every chance to fight this diagnosis. Donations are appreciated as this will help us continue to support and welcome dogs with medical needs.

Although they have been through one obstacle after another, Theodore and his brothers - Simon and Alvin - have maintained sweet and solid personalities. They are playful, handsome, energetic boys. Having survived against the odds, these boys have turned a page and are ready to learn the joys of living in a loving home. Living with amazing foster families, the boys remain loving and affectionate with both their human and furry friends.  With clear routines, expectations, and leadership in place, the boys are thriving. The MAGSR family has taught the boys the joys of a comfortable bed, the importance of exciting toys, the ins and outs of housebreaking, and the value of socializing with others.

Theodore is a social and affectionate guy. He is learning the ins and outs of living in a loving household and seems to be enjoying every minute of his new life. Typical of the breed, Theodore and his brother Alvin, love to be with their people. Theodore will make an amazing companion ensuring that his forever family always has a furry shadow following close behind them. As is typical with puppies, Theodore believes in the magic of endless playtime and toys. He understands just how much joy playtime brings to the entire family and hopes his forever family will indulge in daily activities with him. Training, play, and socialization will be critical to his success. This will help Theodore develop the skills needed to become a stable and confident adult.

Although the boys are as sweet as they can be, please remember that puppies are hard work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your household with endless puppy antics. With time, training, patience and routine, we know Theodore will grow up to become a good canine citizen. If your household is ready to welcome this handsome little man into your home, please ask to meet him today!

Description

Star and her sister, Noel, were born into a loving household. They lived there happily with another member of their family. Although the girls were cherished, when an unexpected circumstance arose, Star and Noel needed to be rehomed. This was a devastating decision for their family. Hoping they could find them a home on their own, they exhausted resource after resource trying to find an option for the girls. With a system overloaded with dogs and the need to find safe options for both girls, their family had almost given up hope. With one last try, they turned to MAGSR. Recognizing these girls were something special, our team came together to ensure that Star and Noel could move forward safely in the MAGSR family.

Star and Noel are stunning girls. Both a little unsure with new people and in new situations, they need a little time to adjust. When given time, patience, and a safe surrounding, the girls warm up to new people nicely. Having lived with an older child, the Star and Noel would likely do well with calm and respectful children. Star is the more energetic of the girls. She is always ready for a little play time and can often be caught bouncing around with a favorite toy. Star is looking for a household that will support her love for playtime and adventures. She wants to please and will be the "Star" at training. Training is critical to her success. Not only will training help Star develop a healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her build the confidence needed to become a good canine citizen. Having lived in a loving home, Star understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She is crate trained and housebroken. However, as is true of all GSDs, she will need time to adjust to the rules and expectations of her forever family. Star is looking for a forever family that will cherish her goofy spirit for a lifetime. If she sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Star today!

Description

Tank was picked up as a stray and brought to a shelter. Staff members immediately noticed that this big guy was social and friendly. So, they waited for his family to come and claim him, when no one stepped forward, Tank was placed on the adoption floor hoping to find a family of his very own. Although this handsome guy did well with visitors, he was never the chosen dog. With shelters significantly over capacity, shelter staff had no choice but to place Tank on the list for euthanasia. They knew this boy was special, but they didn't have an option to move him forward. Fortunately, another rescue was able to secure foster placement for Tank until a breed specific rescue could step forward. While they waited for placement options, the other rescue handled Tank's heartworm treatment and had his vetting updated. When they heard that MAGSR had a few openings, they asked us to welcome Tank into the family so that we could find him an amazing forever family.

Tank is clearly a very special guy. Well behaved, very intelligent, and a friendly guy, Tank is looking for that amazing family that will cherish him throughout his golden years. Having lived in an amazing foster home, Tank is housebroken and crate trained. He understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household and loves being with a family. However, as is true of any new furry family member, this big guy will need time, patience, and leadership in order to adjust to the routines and expectations of his forever family. A huge fan of his daily walks, Tank is hoping his forever family enjoys a good stroll on a daily basis. Although Tank enjoys daily opportunities for exercise and playtime, he also enjoys hang time with his people. Some extra cuddles in the evening are always appreciated. As is true of all GSDs, Tank is looking for a household with structure and routine. Training will go a long way with this guy. Not only will it allow him to create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. If handsome Tank sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet him today!
