Description

Onya, previously known as Onion, was adopted by her mom a few years ago. They were an incredible team. With the help of her mom, Onya completed basic obedience, started scent work, and had the opportunity to develop more advanced skills. They brought endless joy into each other's lives with activities during the day and plenty of cuddles at night. It was beyond evident that these two were meant for each other. Everything was going according to plan and it seemed like they would bring joy to each other for many years. Unbeknownst to the pair, an unimaginable medical diagnosis was looming. Onya's mom received news of a terminal illness that would upend their perfect world. When she realized that Onya would need a safe place to land, Onya's mom contacted our team, shared her story with us, and asked for help. Our team did everything we could to bring comfort to this family and welcomed Onya back to MAGSR.

Onya is a stunning, intelligent, and impressive girl. However, her world has shifted dramatically with the loss of her mom. The grieving process is difficult and can shift personalities sometimes causing skills to go a bit backwards. Until she has fully settled, this sweet girl will likely be skittish and potentially a little over protective of her people. Stability and confidence building will definitely help. Fortunately, Onya is working through this process with the help of a loving foster family. When the right match steps forward, it is imperative that Onya is given time, patience, leadership, and structure in order to make one final adjustment. With routine and clear expectations, we know that this lovely lady will rise to the occasion. Although Onya is in the midst of the grieving process, she does know many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She is housebroken, crate trained, and understands general household routines. However, she will need time to adjust to the expectations of her forever family. Training will also help Onya adjust. Not only will training help Onya develop a strong and healthy bond with her family, but it will also help her continue to develop confidence. Onya is looking for a loving forever family that will provide her with endless adventures and daily snuggles. If this amazing girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Updates:
Onya is an impressive girl. She is beautiful, intelligent, and active. Definitely a flight risk at first, it takes Onya some time to adjust to new people and environments. However, once she bonds, Onya creates a very strong connection to her handler. When managed effectively, Onya's trust in the handler helps her navigate the world safely and with confidence. If not handled correctly, she can become over protective of her chosen person. As a young dog, Onya has good energy. It is critical that she burns this energy so that she meets with success. Having participated in advanced training, Onya is very smart. She needs to exercise both her body and her mind every day. Over the last few weeks, Onya has made great strides while in our care. We are seeing her personality shine with our volunteers and she has begun showering her favorite handlers with smiles and affection. Moving forward, Onya is looking for a peaceful forever family that can provide her with the time, attention, and affection she deserves. If Onya is the right match for your family, ask to meet this lovely lady today!

Description

Exceptional Elsa was absolutely adored by her family. They welcomed her to their home as a young pup and had hoped to spend a lifetime with her. Unfortunately, circumstances do not always work out as we plan. When it became clear that Elsa would need to be rehomed, her family searched for an incredible match for their girl. As they searched, it became clear that Elsa would be most successful if placed through a breed specific rescue. This would ensure that she would be placed in a safe, loving, and knowledgeable home where she would thrive. Saying goodbye is never an easy decision, but Elsa's family knew we would ensure she found the perfect forever family.

Elsa is a young, beautiful, and active girl. Quick witted and a good read of the handler, Elsa's intelligence is one of her many incredible qualities. Still very young, Elsa has boundless shepherd energy. It is key that her family work with her daily exercising both her body and her mind. She will also benefit from continued socialization with new people and in different environments. These activities are critical to her success as they will help her develop into a stable and confident adult dog. Food motivated and excited to learn, Elsa picks up new skills quickly and is ready to begin basic obedience. Our handlers have already begun working with her to develop leash manners and a few commands. As she moves forward, Elsa is looking forward to training with her forever family. Not only will training help Elsa create a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Elsa has had the good fortune to have grown up in a loving household. She understands the joys of dog beds, treats, and living in the home. She is already housebroken and crate trained! Although she has an incredible foundation, Elsa will need time and patience when adjusting to her new family. Clear rules, expectations, and boundaries will help her meet with success. Typical of the breed, Elsa can be protective of her home and her people. It is important that her forever family set her up for success with decompression time, structure, and leadership. Elsa loves a calm, confident leader. If this amazing girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Description

The Nemo Litter was born under a trailer about ten weeks ago. Fortunately, they were noticed by community members and were monitored carefully. As their mom wasn't comfortable with people, steps were being taken to try to help the entire family, but moving forward required time and patience. Unfortunately, soon after the Nemo babies began crawling around, mom spooked, left, and didn’t return. Recognizing the nine babies in the Nemo litter (Coral, Bubbles, Crush, Dory, Marlin, Nemo, Nigel, Squirt, and Pearl) needed help, community members stepped up to ensure they were cared for and loved. As they got older, the rescue sponsoring them began looking for a breed specific rescue to welcome the Nemo litter and find them all amazing forever families. MAGSR stepped forward to welcome the entire litter into our care.

Our team was preparing to move the babies into foster homes when it was noticed that something was not right with several members of the litter. They had suddenly become weak, were struggling to keep food down, began experiencing gastrointestinal issues, and clearly needed help. Our team immediately rushed the babies to the emergency room. Tests were administered and it was determined that the Nemo litter was positive for parvo. Parvo is a highly contagious virus; it is particularly challenging for puppies to survive. One of our amazing vetting partners stepped into action and began working with the Nemo litter to keep them hydrated, control their GI upset, and prevent secondary infections, while also keeping them monitored and loved. Parvo care is very expensive. But, we knew these little lives were special and deserved every chance to fight this diagnosis. We have been incredibly lucky to have so many people step forward to support these babies. This has given us the opportunity to provide critical care; however, donations are still needed. Please consider donating to the Nemo litter so that we can continue to welcome dogs with medical needs.

Although MAGSR fought hard to save the lives of all nine puppies, two members of this litter, Bubbles and Pearl, lost their fight and crossed the rainbow bridge the weekend they arrived. Their siblings have mourned this loss while comforted by our amazing MAGSR volunteers. Although Pearl and Bubbles have left lasting memories that will always be part of this litter's story, the Nemo litter is taking significant steps so that they can continue to move forward. As they heal under the watchful eyes of their foster families, these babies are hoping that forever families are waiting in the wings for them. Once symptoms have ended and ten days have passed, the Nemo puppies will be ready to join their forever families. Marlin is waiting patiently for that special day when his family welcomes him into their home and gives him a last name. If your family is ready to welcome this handsome little guy into your home, ask to set up a meeting with Marlin today!

Description

Star and her sister, Noel, were born into a loving household. They lived there happily with another member of their family. Although the girls were cherished, when an unexpected circumstance arose, Star and Noel needed to be rehomed. This was a devastating decision for their family. Hoping they could find them a home on their own, they exhausted resource after resource trying to find an option for the girls. With a system overloaded with dogs and the need to find safe options for both girls, their family had almost given up hope. With one last try, they turned to MAGSR. Recognizing these girls were something special, our team came together to ensure that Star and Noel could move forward safely in the MAGSR family.

Star and Noel are stunning girls. Both a little unsure with new people and in new situations, they need a little time to adjust. When given time, patience, and a safe surrounding, the girls warm up to new people nicely. Having lived with an older child, the Star and Noel would likely do well with calm and respectful children.Noel can be submissive but is filled to the brim with sweetness. Once comfortable, Noel breaks out of her shell and simply shines with joy. An absolute cuddler at heart, this lovely lady is beyond happy to share her joy with her people. She is always up for a little extra love and a good butt scratch. Training is critical to Noel's success. Not only will training help Noel develop a healthy bond with her forever family, it will also help her build the confidence needed to become a good canine citizen. Having lived in a loving home, Noel understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She, like her sister, is crate trained and housebroken. However, as is true of all GSDs, she will need time to adjust to the rules and expectations of her forever family. Noel is looking for a forever family that will embrace her loving spirit for a lifetime. If she sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Noel today!

Esme

Ideal/Potential Size: 66 lbs

Obedience Trained: Working on it

Living with: Foster

History: Shelter

Description

Many things get better with age-cheese, wine, cowboy boots and Esme! She’s not going to hike the Appalachian Trail with you, but she would love to go for a walk in the morning and then come back and sit by your side while you have a second cup of coffee. Or if walking is not your thing, Esme is happy to take a spin around the backyard then keep you company for the day. With those big, beautiful ears, Esme is a great listener and will even give you a head tilt or two if your conversations with her involve a treat. An amazing companion, Esme is looking for a family that enjoys a good cuddle and an easy-going lifestyle.

Found as a stray in the area, Esme was taken to the local shelter where she waited for her family to come and claim her. Although this girl impressed shelter staff with her friendly demeanor, when no one stepped forward to claim her, everyone got a little worried. Like so many shelters these days, the shelter that welcomed Esme into their care was over capacity. Although they try to do everything they can to find placements in adoptive and foster homes, or in rescues, senior dogs at a crowded shelter are always at risk. Fortunately, a plea was put out to rescues in the area, with an incredible foster ready to open her home to Esme, MAGSR happily welcomed her to the family. Fosters make such a difference in our ability to save lives. We are so excited that Esme is in a safe and loving home.

At this time, Esme is settling into her foster family. She has done well with the resident dogs and is curious about the cat. As is true of all dogs, Esme craves structure, routine, and leadership. She may not need to spend her days chasing a ball for hours, but she does enjoy some play time, plenty of snuggles, and a good nap. Adjusting well to the household, it seems that Esme already knows many of the ins and outs of living indoors. Although she is making significant strides, her forever family will need to be patient as she makes one final adjustment to the routines and expectations of her forever family. True of all dogs, Esme will thrive with training. Not only will training help Esme create a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. Esme is looking for an amazing family that will cherish her throughout her golden years. If you are looking for a great companion, look no further than Esme.

Updates:
Esme has been greatly enjoying the comforts of living in a foster home over the last few weeks. She is the perfect houseguest and has integrated well into her foster family. With daily opportunities to socialize and cuddle, Esme seems beyond happy to be out of a shelter in an experienced home. As Esme has settled into her foster home, our team has been working to address some medical concerns that were noticed upon arrival. Struggling with what appeared to be pain in her backend and some difficulty with movement in her back legs, we began working with one of our incredible vetting partners to address Esme's needs. Unfortunately, as we dug into possible causes, it was discovered that Esme has severe hip arthritis, is experiencing ataxia in her back legs, and may also be showing signs of degenerative myopathy (DM). In order to address these needs, we immediately began Esme on supplements and medication to help relieve some of the pain she is experiencing from the arthritis. Her foster family has also adjusted Esme's environment to provide her with spaces where stairs and items that may cause trips or falls are removed. This piece is critical as the ataxia in Esme's legs has caused weakness, lack of sensation, and difficulty with leg/paw placement. Although we know that Esme may not have as many years left as we had hoped, we do know that she is safe, comfortable, and loved. Please consider donating to Esme's care. Your donation will not only help Esme continue to get the support she needs to remain comfortable and happy, but it will also help MAGSR support other medical dogs in need. Esme is still hoping to find a special home that will cherish her forever. If your family is looking for a sweetheart who would fill your days with joy and gentle kisses, please ask to meet this lovely lady today.
