The Kentucky Six - Diego, Champ, Serena, Peanut, Evie, and Yogi - are cruelty and neglect survivors. Living in inhumane conditions, starved, and used as breeding stock, the Kentucky Six managed to make it off the property alive when the right people heard about their conditions and got the authorities involved. All six dogs were confiscated and brought to a shelter where they waited for the chance to find kind and loving families of their very own. Although shelter staff worked hard to make sure that all six dogs began getting the care and attention they deserved, they recognized that with shelters at capacity and adoptions limited, these six precious souls may not have the chance to find their forever families. They began working with local groups and started networking the dogs in hopes that rescue placement would be found. Fortunately, their message made its way to MAGSR. Our incredible team knew that this group of dogs was very special, so we began putting plans in place to welcome the Kentucky Six to the MAGSR family.

Although Peanut's life was filled with endless challenges and suffering prior to her confiscation, she remains loving and affectionate. With a gentle demeanor and sweet personality, she easily wins over everyone who meets her. Really, who could say no to those lovely eyes? Although she has endured a lot of suffering throughout the years, Peanut's demeanor remains stable and lovable. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still friendly and interactive.  As is true of all shepherds, Peanut will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways she is still in the beginning stages of her new life. She will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Peanut will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Peanut has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help her settle into her new home. Training will also go a long way for this lovely lady. Not only will training help Peanut develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that all of the Kentucky Six are heartworm positive. This could have easily been avoided with a monthly heartworm preventative. Peanut is just beginning treatment. However, she is already handling her protocol like a pro. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR will cover the entire cost of Peanut's medical treatment. Please consider donating to Peanut's care as it will not only help Peanut continue to move forward, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs. Peanut is looking for a forever family that will cherish her for a lifetime. If this amazing lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Color: Sable
Current Size: 55 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 65 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Working on it
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

We would like to introduce Sage; a stunningly beautiful, bouncy, 7 month old sable.  Unfortunately, her previous family was unaware of the requirements of a GSD puppy, and made a difficult decision to surrender her so she could live her best life.  With that being said, Sage wasn’t properly socialized with other dogs or humans, and as a result, is terrified of most things.  In order to help give her the best chance, Sage will be receiving some training to help her rebuild her confidence.

As we get to know Sage, it is clear she will need time to decompress and onboard some training that will help build her confidence.  We know she will end up being an incredible, loyal and loving companion, but will need to be placed with a person or family that is either familiar with German Shepherds or is eager to learn about the temperament of the breed while providing the essentials -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If Sage sounds like the adventure you would like to blaze trails with, please ask to add her to your family today!

Bell

ADOPTED 06/19/2023!

Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 2 years 4 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 40 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 65 lbs
Housebroken: No, I'm a puppy!
Obedience Trained: Working on it
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Likely
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Unknown
DESCRIPTION:

Lovely little Bell and her sister, Bebe, were surrendered to a local shelter. Although it was clear that the girls were sweethearts, the shelter environment is a loud and scary place for many dogs, especially puppies. In a constant state of fear and starting to avoid people, shelter staff knew that if the girls remained in the shelter environment much longer, their chances at finding a forever home were limited. Recognizing that the girls were beginning to shut down in their new surroundings, shelter staff made an urgent plea for rescue help. Although we already had several puppies within the rescue, when we heard about Bell and Bebe's situation, we knew we needed to step forward and welcome both girls to the MAGSR family.

Bell is beyond adorable. Her lovely eyes simply draw you in and melt your heart. However, due to a lack of socialization with new people, new environments, and new animals prior to her arrival in MAGSR's care, she can be skittish and unsure in new situations and with new people. Her tendency is to attempt to run and hide. Bell is fortunate to be living with an incredible foster family that is working hard to provide her with the opportunity to socialize with new people and other animals in controlled settings. However, it is critical that Bell's forever family continue this socialization. Bell is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all dogs crave. Training will go a long way with Bebe. Not only will it help her create a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult. If your household has the time, patience, and energy  to provide Bebe with opportunities and experiences that all young dogs deserve, ask to meet this little girl today!

Darren

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 3 years 3 months
Color: Black, Brown, & Cream
Current Size: 32 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 40 lbs
Housebroken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Working on it

Good With Kids: Yes, older kids
Good With Cats: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

Darren was picked up as a stray and brought to an overcrowded shelter. Upon his arrival it was clear that this sweet guy was special. Darren was gentle and affectionate but also very scared. Due to overcrowding, Darren was living on borrowed time and needed help fast. Recognizing that this guy deserved a chance with a forever family, a rescue plea went out. When we learned about Darren's situation, we immediately stepped forward and welcomed Darren to the MAGSR family.

Darren is a gentle and timid soul. A little jumpy with fast movements, it is evident that Darren has survived a lot in his short life much of it may not have always involved a kind hand. However, he remains sweet and affectionate. Darren did very well with staff members at the shelter and seems to appreciate a calm and gentle handler. Darren's family will need to be patient with Darren as he adjusts to his forever family. However, given a little time and kindness, Darren warms up to his people. Darren is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that helps all dogs thrive. Training will also go a long way with Darren. Not only will training help Darren develop a strong, healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop into a stable and confident canine citizen. Darren is looking for a forever family that will adore him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Updates:

Darren is thriving! While very hesitant and shy when we first welcomed him to our foster home, just a few days later he has gained confidence and is a relaxed and happy dog.  Although unwilling to walk very far originally due to fear/anxiety, Darren is now happy to accompany our GSD on long walks and loves chasing the ball in our fenced back yard.  He is housebroken but just starting to learn the basic obedience commands.  He has been extremely friendly with all other dogs, children and adults alike. (No interaction yet with cats.)  He has charmed our 4 year female, who doesn't normally love other dogs.  He is adorable, we call him a "fun size" GSD at 32 pounds.  We love Darren and we know the adopting family will too!

We have had Darren with us for about a month now - and he is simply a really sweet boy.  He loves everyone - adults, children of all ages, other dogs — these are all friends he has yet to make.  He enjoys walks with Yuki (our 4 year old female Shepherd), playing with her in the backyard and chasing balls.  He also likes to gather all of his toys (as in this picture).

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Kitana was adored by her family. They gave her endless opportunities to socialize with people and other animals which helped her develop a stable and confident personality. However, due to unexpected changes, they could no longer provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that Kitana would be most successful if placed within a breed specific rescue, they asked us to welcome Kitana to the MAGSR family. We promised we would find this special girl the perfect forever family.

Kitana is a beautiful, affectionate, and interactive girl. She has an interactive personality and loves everyone she encounters. Kitana is living with one of our amazing foster families. They are working with her to help her transition. As is true of all dogs, Kitana will need some time to adjust to her new family and home. However, given time, patience, structure, and routine, we are sure that Kitana will meet with success. Although Kitana already knows a few commands, she will benefit greatly from training.
