Eugene

Date of Death: May 26, 2026

I'm very sorry to share the sad news that my best friend Eugene (adopted Dec 2020) passed away Tuesday morning after a sudden and aggressive battle with metastasized vascular cancer (Hemangiosarcoma). 

VEG ER showed us the sonogram of the fluid around Eugene's heart from a ruptured tumor and masses in other parts of his body. We had an option to buy time, maybe one more day, but it could mean a more painful ending and the thought of that was unbearable. In an instant, I knew Eugene would not be coming home with me.

The most difficult, painful decision I've ever had to make of the many GSDs we've fostered and adopted over 20 years. The sudden empty, quiet spaces in our home, in my days and my life are excruciating. My heart is in pieces.

I am also overwhelmed by the gratitude I feel for having such a remarkable experience living with Eugene for 5 1/2 years. His extensive behavior training was also my own journey of healing, grief and mental health, side by side with Eugene. I can't thank MAGSR enough for this extraordinary connection of love.

Thank you again for your support from day one. I will always be grateful to MAGSR for my forever friendship with Eugene.
