Description

Handsome Guapo was picked up as a stray in a busy city with his mom and sister - Bonita and Hermosa. This beautiful family was taken to an overcrowded animal shelter where they waited to be claimed. When no one arrived to bring them home, a plea went out for help. We knew this little family deserved the comfort and safety of a home and stepped up to help.

Guapo is a cute  and curious little boy. However, he can be a little shy when first meeting new people. Bouncy and playful, this little guy is looking for a household that will help him burn his puppy energy positively. As Guapo has likely never lived in a household, he will need to learn all of the amazing things that come with living in a home. Although Guapo is a honey, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics, they get into things, and they will chew on inappropriate items. With time, patience, and training, Guapo will develop into the good canine citizen that we know he is destined to become. If this little cutie sounds like the right match for your family, please ask to meet him today!

Description

Beckett and his siblings - Adira, Knox, and Isa - were dumped on a country road. Emaciated and clearly lacking care, these babies needed help and fast. When a kind member of the community discovered what had happened to the puppies, they moved quickly to help these babies find safety. Recognizing that these little orphans would have their best chance at finding safe and loving forever homes with a rescue, a plea for help went out.

Beckett is a goofball. Having the benefit of recuperating in a foster home, he has had the opportunity to start learning about the comforts of living in a home. His foster household has also taken the important step of beginning to socialize him with other people, dogs, and situations. Continued socialization is critical to Beckett's success as he grows. Although Beckett is a honey, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics, they get into things, and they will chew on inappropriate items. Description

Maui was picked up as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Although she waited patiently for her family to claim her, no one arrived to take her home. When we got the call to help Maui move forward, we immediately welcomed her to the MAGSR family.

As a typical young shepherd, Maui is full of energy. She is a playful and affectionate girl. Ready for a game of fetch at any time, Maui is hoping that her new family likes to throw the ball around. In order to burn her energy in a healthy way, Maui's new family will need to exercise both her body and her mind on a regular basis. Highly motivated by both treats and toys, Maui will be a joy to work with and training will be a breeze. Training will not only help Maui bond to her new family but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that Maui is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided had she been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. The cost of Maui's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive but sweet Maui is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Maui's treatment. Your generosity will help us save her as well as other dogs with medical needs. Maui will need to take it slow over the next few months. However, she will be back to full strength as soon as her treatment is complete. If this lovely lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Updates:
Look at Knox and how well he is doing with training, what a good boy.  His fosters report that he is learning commands, which you can see from the new pictures of him.  He is crate trained with no issues in his crate sleeping calmly through the night.  His fosters consider him to be house broken as there have been no accidents in the house but keep in mind he is still a puppy and is not left unsupervised in the house.  As you can see from the pictures they have been doing a lot of socializing with him, going to pet stores, hardware stores, farmers market, public parks etc.  Knox loves to go on walks, play in the backyard and go for rides in the car.  He is fantastic in the car.  Knox is calm, sweet and lovely with all people, including children.   If you are looking for a puppy that has a great temperament to grow with your family please contact us to meet him.

Description

Sally and her Cars Puppies were rescued in the south by another group. As they wanted to do right by this lovely family, they began reaching out to other groups who would be able to support the family until they were ready to find forever homes of their own. When asked to welcome this family into the MAGSR family, we immediately said yes.

Carla is a bundle of energy and joy. She is cute as a button and brings happiness to everyone around her. Well socialized in her foster home, Carla is a match for a household with kids, cats, or other dogs. Although Carla's foster family has given her an excellent start, it is imperative that they continue to keep Carla well socialized. This will help her develop into a stable adult. Although Carla is absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics, they get into things, and they will chew on inappropriate items. With time, patience, and training, Carla will develop into the good canine citizen that we know she is destined to become. If this little girl sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet her today.

Updates:
Carla has a great personality. She is friendly and playful and curious just like a 2 month old puppy should be. She loves to run and play with toys. She is a great eater. She is very smart as well, she is learning her name and even occasionally will sit on command.  She now quietly sleeps through the night and can go 6 hours in her crate overnight without any accidents (we still walk her frequently during the day). She is a very sweet puppy, a total snuggler and loves to be around people.

Description

Cash is a handsome guy. He and another furry friend wandered up into a yard in the south and decided that it might be a nice place to stay. Fortunately, these dogs picked the right yard as the family immediately started looking for their family. Although they worked with animal control and local groups to find the dogs' family, no one claimed them. Another rescue was able to bring in Cash's buddy; however, with so many rescues at capacity, one was all they could bring in. When asked if we could bring Cash into rescue so he could move forward with a forever family, MAGSR immediately stepped forward.

As is typical of many young shepherds, Cash is playful, energetic, and looking for leadership. He does very well with a calm handler who can show him the ropes. A social guy, Cash enjoys the company of people of all ages. A big fan of toys and treats, Cash will be a star student in training class. Training is essential for all dogs as it helps them bond with their new families, as well as, develop the skills needed to become good canine citizens. Cash is looking for a family that will exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. He will also benefit from regular socialization in order to build confidence and stability. If this handsome guy sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet him today!

Junior

Adopted: 07/18/2021!

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Mix

Approximate Age: 1 year

Color: Tan

Current Size: 45 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size: 50 lbs

Housebroken: Yes

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Foster

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Yes

Good with Cats: Yes

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Junior and his siblings were part of an accidental litter. His family loved him greatly and took good care of him and his siblings. However, as the puppies grew older, it became difficult to take care of so many dogs. Recognizing that Junior and his siblings would be better able to receive the care and attention they deserved if they were rehomed, Junior's owner made the difficult decision to surrender the group of siblings to MAGSR. We promised that we would find each member of the family safe and loving forever homes.

Junior is a love. He was well socialized in his home with kids and other dogs. However, his family struggled to find time to socialize him in the community. As a result, Junior can be a little timid with new people and in new places. Given time, patience, and guidance, Junior will develop the confidence he needs outside of the household. Just like any young dog, Junior will thrive with structure, routine and training. Training will help him to not only bond with his new family but also develop into the stable adult we know he is destined to be. If Junior sounds like the right match for your household, please ask to meet him today.

Updates:
Junior is a sweetheart that loves to be close to his human.  He is crate trained, housebroken and working on obedience.  He walks amazingly on a leash and would be a great walking companion with just a couple little tweaks.  Junior loves kids.  His favorite human in the house is the foster's daughter and her friends.  If you are looking for a loving family dog, this is your guy.  As you can see from his picture, he is just hanging out waiting for his forever home. , If you are looking for a sweet loving family dog then Junior is the one.  He loves all people and would welcome living in a home with another dog.  At his foster's he keeps the dad company during the day by laying at his feet under his desk while he works.  He loves snuggling, going for walks and helping his foster mom take care of the goats and chickens in the mornings. Junior is still not sure why the chickens need to follow him around on his walks :).  Junior has come a long way in his obedience, he will sit for his leash to be attached, he goes in the down position and walks nicely on the leash.  Since he is such a social butterfly, he does get excited when he sees other dogs but he is learning he needs to remain calm.  Junior is only a year old, so he would love to go running, long walks, playtime and of course snuggling with his human..  If he sounds like a fit, set up a meet and greet with this sweet boy.

Update: Courage is Heartworm Free and he has healed from his knee surgery.  Courage is having so much fun running, playing and being a normal dog after many months of being on restrictive care.  This handsome guy is ready for his furever home!  Please call to meet him!

Sometimes we all need a Christmas miracle and for Courage that miracle couldn't come soon enough. Courage was found near a vacant building with significant wounds to his paws and legs. Based upon his injuries, Courage was likely hit by or tossed from a car. In need of immediate care, he was quickly brought to a shelter for help. Shelter staff did everything they could to help Courage, but they recognized that he needed additional help from a private vet and fast. When a plea went out for help, MAGSR stepped in to grant Courage's Christmas wish.

Courage is in a significant amount of pain. However, he remains gentle and friendly. At this time, Courage is unable to bear full weight on one of his back legs and has several deep wounds on his legs and feet. These wounds look infected and are significantly impacting his ability to move easily. Fortunately, MAGSR has a phenomenal vet working with Courage already. He is getting x-rays completed, wound care, antibiotics, and pain medication. Over the next few days we will have a better idea of the full extent of Courage's medical needs. However, no matter what the prognosis MAGSR will be by his side every step of the way. Although Courage will receive all of the love and care he needs to recover, MAGSR needs help making his Christmas wish come true. Please consider donating to his care so that MAGSR can continue to help dogs like Courage this holiday season.

Courage's wounds are healing nicely and he can even walk up and down the stairs in his foster home to sleep with his foster family in their bedroom. In his foster care he has experienced other dogs and is a NO for cats. He would prefer another dog or GSD that is playful in his forever home but he could be an only dog. He has a sweet, playful personality and loves to roll on his back for belly rubs. He likes a Kong ball but is currently restricted to having it in his crate due to being heartworm positive. He loves to be 'outside' and he is an expert sniffer like most shepherds and then some!  Even though his outside time is restricted, it is evident that he will need to improve his leash walking skills. He does recognize some basic commands but will need to attend a training class and then practice his newly learned skills. Courage seems to be familiar with noises, activities and rules of living in a house. He has not had any accidents in the house and sleeps fairly quiet at night except for changing his sleep position. He loves to be with his people and would love to be your lap or couch dog if allowed. Courage is a handsome boy with a great personality and should fit in with most families with older children.

Updates:
Courage is making progress in his foster home and has come a long way since he joined his foster family. He is calm and relaxed in the house most of the day except at meal times when he gets very excited and will talk up a storm but will be calmer when kept close by on the leash. He is quiet in his crate at night and while on crate rest due to his heartworm treatment or when the fosters leave the house. He is also very calm and happy looking out the storm doors to observe dogs, people and other activities. When he first arrived at his foster home he started mouthing when being leashed up, getting belly or head rubs and also exercising his leg during rehab. He is starting to understand that this behavior is not acceptable and has been much better not mouthing. His mouthing doesn't seem aggressive at all but more of a reaction of being handled by someone and him protesting as he most likely never had any training and got away with this kind of behavior. He is now much better and not mouthing when getting leashed, routine exercises and handling. He is a Thief extraordinaire and he will grab anything available and will snatch a napkin or paper towel right out of your hand or off the counter. And he is an expert counter surfer; nothing is safe within reach if you leave him unattended for just a moment and that's about 5 seconds. He needs to be in the crate at any time you leave the room just to step outside and his antics make us laugh at how creative he can be snatching up the desired object but which he will quickly drop or ignore when given proper motivation.  He picks up random tennis balls left behind by other dogs when outside and he would probably love to run and retrieve them. He seems to remember to run free and play with a ball as he stares at the dogs in the neighborhood chasing the ball. There is a fun personality waiting to come out once he is allowed to engage in normal day to day activities again. And he has those sunshine brown eyes that are most expressive looking at you and are hard to resist.  Courage will be a great dog for the right family and he is ready for his furever family. He has almost recovered from his knee surgery and he is now going through his heartworm treatment with optimism towards his full recovery. He is used to his limited, short outings to do his business and he would rather chase squirrels and visit with the other dogs. Courage is looking forward to playing at full speed over time once all of his treatments are completed. He is keeping busy chewing on nyla bones and an occasional other chew. He is currently on house and crate rest and he is on limited training in the house to keep his mind engaged. He knows NO, SIT, COME, and we are working on DOWN, STAY and PLACE. Stay and place are something he will have to work on with his new family but he is very food and treat motivated so this will be helpful training him once he can fully engage in activities.. As all shepherds, this gorgeous, fun loving lad will need structure, patience and training with his new family and please ask to meet this handsome young boy... and yes, he is a BOY!  , Courage has completed his heartworm (HW) treatment and his recent microfilaria test was negative. This is great news for him and he is ready to start another chapter in his life with more exercise and discover the world beyond crate & house rest and the limited walks he has had for months. Courage is excited to show off his personality; walking, running and playing; preferably with another 4legged playmate. This boy is ready to find just the right family and as stated in a previous post, he is a BOY dog and he does BURP! on a regular basis that just makes his fosters laugh. His sunshine eyes are expressive and he is ready to meet his new family and show what an amazing and fun dog he can be. And he will chase the Cicadas if he can get a hold of them!

Description

Handsome Bandit was picked up as a stray in the south. Although he waited for his family to claim him, no one came looking. Recognizing that Bandit would be most successful in a foster home, a member of the shelter staff took Bandit in until he could find a place within a rescue. When we heard that Bandit needed help to move forward, we immediately welcomed him into the MAGSR family.

Bandit is a large and stable guy. Although he was on his own for a bit before arriving at the shelter, he had clearly been well socialized with people. As Bandit was the alpha of a pack when out on his own, he does better with female dogs. He can pass other male dogs and maintain his calm demeanor; however, he will be most successful in a household without other males. It is clear that Bandit has begun to learn some leash manners and is comfortable being handled. However, just like any new dog, he will benefit from training.  Training will go a long way with this handsome guy as it will not only help him bond with his new family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that Bandit is heartworm positive. This condition could have been avoided had he been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. MAGSR has begun his heartworm treatment and Bandit is doing well. The cost of his entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Bandit is clearly worth the cost. Please consider donating toward Bandit's treatment. Your generosity will help us save him and other dogs with medical needs. Although Bandit will need to take it slow over the next few months, he will be back to full strength once his treatment is finished. If your household is looking for a friendly and stable guy, please ask to meet Bandit today.

Ranger

Adopted: 07/12/2021!

Gender: Male

Breed: German Shepherd Dog

Approximate Age: 5 years

Color: Black & Tan

Current Size: 65 lbs

Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs

Housebroken: Likely

Obedience Trained: No

Living with: Kennel

History: Owner Surrender

Good with Kids: Yes, older kids

Good with Cats: Unknown

Other Dogs OK: Yes

Description

Sweet Ranger was brought to a local vet as his family decided that they wanted him euthanized. It was evident that Ranger needed some medical care for an untreated skin infection; however, staff members quickly recognized that this delightful guy deserved a chance at life with a family that would commit to him for a lifetime. Fortunately, they were able to convince Ranger's family to surrender him to them. Once safe, the vet staff immediately began addressing Ranger's needs.

Ranger had untreated skin issues that had caused a lot of hair-loss, flaking, and itchiness. It is believed that everything began with an allergy that when untreated and resulted in a secondary yeast/fungal infection that got out of hand. He has been given a course of antibiotics, steroids, and medicated baths which have already begun to have a positive impact. In addition to skin issues, sweet Ranger also had significant bilateral ear infections that have since been treated. Although his appearance may not match his impressive personality right now, we fully expect him to regrow his lovely coat.

Please consider donating to Ranger's care.

A stable and friendly guy, Ranger seems to enjoy the company of his people. He is a playful guy and will happily fetch a ball and drop it for another throw. A big fan of squeaky toys, Ranger smiles while he plays. Although he is still a little sensitive around his ears, which is likely due to the severity of his ear infections, Ranger loves attention and happily rewards his people with kisses. Once comfortable, he will ask for belly rubs as well. As a social guy, Ranger can be vocal at first when left alone but he quiets down quickly. Having had the opportunity to meet dogs of a variety of sizes and temperaments, Ranger's confident and easy-going personality wins everyone over. Ranger will need to continue to have regular baths to help his skin clear up and will need to be kept on a low ingredient food in order to keep his allergies in check. This sweet boy is looking for a family that will commit to loving him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?
